I'm new to Javascript, and I'm trying to loop over an array of JSON [{},{},{}, ...]
I have created this function to loop on a static Array of JSON constant, but it's not working properly even after checking online and trying.
function saveAccount() {
const userName = document.getElementById('user_name');
const userPassword = document.getElementById('user_password');
const formErrorMessage = document.getElementById('fillFormError');
if(userName.value == '' || userPassword.value == '')
{
formErrorMessage.textContent = 'Please fill the form fields first!';
formErrorMessage.style.color = 'red';
event.preventDefault();
}
else
{
localStorage.setItem('userName', userName.value);
const allUsers = '[{"username":"test3","email":"test3#hotmail.com","password":"123"},{"username":"test2","email":"test2#hotmail.com","password":"123123"},{"username":"test1","email":"test1#hotmail.com","password":"456456456"}]';//JSON.parse(localStorage.getItem('users'));
for(var i = 0; i < allUsers.length; i++){
var user = allUsers[i];
console.log(user.username);
//alert(user["username"])
if(user.username == userName){
console.log('USERNAME FOUND!!!!!');
}
}
}
}
the purpose is to find if the username exists in my array of users.
console.log(user.username); -> return undifined and the .parse also returns an error.
allUser is currently defined as a string, which you can't loop over.
Try this:
const allUsers = [{"username":"test3","email":"test3#hotmail.com","password":"123"},{"username":"test2","email":"test2#hotmail.com","password":"123123"},{"username":"test1","email":"test1#hotmail.com","password":"456456456"}]

I have a simple program that reads a css file (which is available on GitHub pages) and parse the css to an array so I can put at in a list.
I have an dictionary with words, like a vocabulary list which shows me the translation and I can also search for words.
Everything works fine so far but I am really new and this is my first project and I want some advise about my codestructure.
At the moment I have to fetch the csv file (which never changes) in different methods with getData. I do this in init dictionary and again in search and show, because I need the dictionary again. Wouldn’t it be better to get the data once and then use it with all functions?
But then I have to write a lot function into another which is not so good practice I think.
I would really appreciate some advise or link or topics/ direction I have to research, because I can’t find an answer about how to structure this well.
I just use html, css and js without any framework or library.
initDictionary();
async function initDictionary(){
//get data
const dictionary = await getData();
//fill html list with words
fillList(dictionary);
}
//show translation and info when click on word
show = async function (i){
let dictionary = await getData();
document.getElementById("word-text").innerHTML = dictionary[i].Wort;
document.getElementById("info").innerHTML = dictionary[i].Notizen;
}
//search stuff
search = async function() {
let dictionary = await getData();
let query = document.getElementById('search').value;
console.log(query);
if (query == ""){
return;
}
//init found to false
let found = -1;
for(let i=0; i< dictionary.length; i++){
if(query == dictionary[i].Übersetzung){
found = i;
break;
}else {
document.getElementById("word-text").innerHTML = "word not found";
document.getElementById("info").innerHTML ="";
}
}
if ( found >= 0){
show (found);
query = document.getElementById('search').value="";
}
}
//Start search when u press enter
let input = document.getElementById("search");
input.addEventListener("keyup", function(event) {
console.log(event);
if (event.key=== "Enter") {
search();
}
});
// get data
async function getData(){
const csv = await fetch('https://aboutwhite.github.io/data/data.csv');
let scvText = await csv.text();
let dictionary = csvToArray(scvText);
return dictionary;
}
// fill html list with words
function fillList(dictionary){
for(let i=0; i< dictionary.length; i++){
document.getElementById('word-list').innerHTML += "<li onclick='show("+i+")'>" + dictionary[i].Übersetzung+"</li>";
}
}
//parse csv to array
function csvToArray(str){
let delimiter = ","
const headers = str.slice(0, str.indexOf("\n")).split(delimiter);
const rows = str.slice(str.indexOf("\n") + 1).split("\n");
const arr = rows.map(function (row) {
const values = row.split(delimiter);
const el = headers.reduce(function (object, header, index) {
object[header] = values[index];
return object;
}, {});
return el;
});
return arr;
}
I have a "clients.txt" file where I have a list of emails. I try to run a program for sending emails where I chose a number of emails to use from the file, in that case the number is 2. After I use the two emails I want to overwrite "clients.txt" without them. The problem is when I try to run the code just for one single time every thing is working! but if I make a loop something is wrong. Looking forward to see any help from you guys. Thanks! I add the code bellow. PS: Sorry for my bad english!
function readEmails(){
const fs = require('fs');
clients_list = fs.readFileSync('clients.txt', 'utf8').split('\n');
let filtered = clients_list.filter(function (el) {
return el != null && el != '';
});
return filtered
}
function dump_array(arr, file){
let fs = require('fs');
let file = fs.createWriteStream(file);
file.on('error', function(err) { /* error handling */ });
arr.forEach(function(v) { file.write(v + '\n'); });
file.end();
}
while_var = 0;
while (while_var < 2){
while_var ++;
let all_clients = readEmails();
let selected_clients = [];
if (all_clients.length > 0){
selected_clients = all_clients.splice(0,2);
dump_array(all_clients, 'clients.txt');
console.log(selected_clients);
}else{
console.log('No more clients')
}
}
const fs = require('fs');
function readEmails(){
const clients_list = fs.readFileSync('clients.txt', 'utf8').split('\n');
const filtered = clients_list
// clear false, 0 and undefined too
.filter(el => !!el)
// remove extra spaces and \r symbols
.map(el => el.trim());
return filtered;
}
function dump_array(arr, file){
// Here you need sync method.
fs.writeFileSync(file, arr.join('\n'));
// And here was 'already declared' error in orginal code
}
let while_var = 0;
while (while_var++ < 2){
let all_clients = readEmails();
let selected_clients = [];
if (all_clients.length > 0){
selected_clients = all_clients.splice(0,2);
dump_array(all_clients, 'clients.txt');
console.log(selected_clients);
}else{
console.log('No more clients')
}
}
I'm building a javascript function that receives an input and checks it against stored objects in an array to see if it matches against any
The if else statement don't work
const accounts = []; //holds all user name and password
function getinput() {
let pass = document.getElementById("password").value;
let user = document.getElementById("username").value;
let newuser = {
username: user,
password: pass,
};
let match = (toMatch) => toMatch === newuser.username
if (accounts.some(match) === true) {
return alert("choose another `username");
}
accounts.push(newuser)
return alert("account created")
};
var clik = document.getElementById("login").addEventListener("click", getinput);
It should tell the user if a username is available or not
The direct answer to your question would be along the lines of:
function getInput() {
/* store the value of the input */
var current_userName = document.getElementById("username").value;
/* check if that value already exists in the accounts Array */
var matched = accounts.find(account => account.username === current_userName);
/* conditional for each of the two cases */
if (!matched) {
/* code if username is available */
} else {
/* code if username is NOT available */
}
};
document.getElementById("login").addEventListener("click" , getInput);
You have some mistakes in your code, which need fixing.
Also, look into Array.prototype.find() for more info.
Hope this will help you get started in the right direction. Best of luck!
Finally understood what I was doing wrong had to point toMatch of accounts to check for username contained within the array of object
const = [ ]; //holds all user name and password
function getinput() {
let pass = document.getElementById("password").value;
let user = document.getElementById("username").value;
let newuser = {
username: user,
password: pass,
};
//this was where I got it wrong I was doing toMatch === newuser.username which was wrong
let match = (toMatch) => toMatch.username === user
if (accounts.some(match) === true) {
return alert("choose another username");
}
accounts.push(newuser)
return alert("account created")
};
document.getElementById("login
Here I have global variable userId, and i want to update it inside signInUserFunction(), to use is in other function. I have tried to define it using var, window, But all these didn't help. This variable doesn't update. As i see its about AJAX async. So, what can i do with it?
And yes, I know that its not good to make authentication with JS, I am quite new to it. So, I am just creating random methods to improve.
var userId = 1;
function signInUser() {
$.getJSON('http://localhost:8887/JAXRSService/webresources/generic/getAllUsers', function(data) {
var items = [];
var i = 0;
$.each(data, function(firstname, value) {
var str = JSON.stringify(value);
data = JSON.parse(str);
var innerId;
for (p in data) {
innerId = data[p].id;
if ($('#nameSignIn').val() == data[p].first_name && $('#passwordSignIn').val() == data[p].password) { //
userId = innerId;
window.location.href = "content.html";
break;
} else {
i++;
if (i == data.length) {
alert("Ощибка в логине или пароле!")
}
}
}
});
});
}
How are you determining whether or not it has been set? It looks like immediately after you set it, you navigate to a different page. When you get to that page, you will have an entirely new window.
Try alerting the value before navigating away.
EDITED: Here is how you could pass it to the other page (but you shouldn't do this in a real app)
window.userId=innerId;
alert(window.userId);
//this isn't a very secure way to do this. I DON'T recommend this
window.location.href = "content.html?id=" + innerId ;
Then in the other page, you could access it off the document.location:
alert(document.location.toString().split("?id=")[1]);
After reading my comments, you may want to try this:
var userId = 1;
function signInUser(){
$.getJSON('http://localhost:8887/JAXRSService/webresources/generic/getAllUsers', function(data){
var items = [], actors = data.Actors, l = 0;
$.each(actors, function(i, o){
l++;
if($('#nameSignIn').val() === o.first_name && $('#passwordSignIn').val() === o.password){
userId = o.id;
// this will redirect before any other code runs -> location = 'content.html';
if(l === actors.length){
alert('End of Loop');
}
}
});
});
}
signInUser();
I would not store sensitive data in JSON such as passwords. Use a database. There is no need to get all the data at the same time either.
Using the idea #mcgraphix proposed (and giving you the same warning...this would certainly not be the way to transfer data like this in a production environment), here is one way to do it:
function signInUser() {
var url = 'http://localhost:8887/JAXRSService/webresources/generic/getAllUsers';
var userId;
$.getJSON(url, function(data) {
$.each(data.Actors, function(index, actor) {
// Cache the values of the #nameSignIn and #passwordSignIn elements
var name = $('#nameSignIn').val();
var password = $('#passwordSignIn').val();
if (actor.first_name === name && actor.password === password) {
// We have found the correct actor.
// Extract its ID and assign it to userId.
userId = actor.id;
window.location.href = "content.html?userId=" + userId;
}
});
// This alert should only be reached if none of the actor objects
// has a name and password that matches your input box values.
alert("Ощибка в логине или пароле!");
});
}
// On the next page...
// Top answer from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2090551/parse-query-string-in-javascript
// This approach can handle URLs with more than one query parameter,
// which you may potentially add in the future.
function getQueryVariable(variable) {
var query = window.location.search.substring(1);
var vars = query.split('&');
for (var i = 0; i < vars.length; i++) {
var pair = vars[i].split('=');
if (decodeURIComponent(pair[0]) == variable) {
return decodeURIComponent(pair[1]);
}
}
console.log('Query variable %s not found', variable);
}
var userId = getQueryVariable('userId');
Thanks you for help.Ended it all with usage of:
sessionStorage.getItem('label')
sessionStorage.setItem('label', 'value')
I fill my array in the checklistRequest.js and I want to access it in my Termine_1s.html file which contains js code. I can access it but when I want to iterate through it, it gives me only single digits instead of the strings.
How can I solve this?
checklistRequest.js
//Calls the checkbox values
function alertFunction()
{
//Retrieve the object from storage
var retrievedObject = localStorage.getItem('checkboxArray');
console.log('retrievedObject: ', JSON.parse(retrievedObject));
return retrievedObject;
}
Termine_1s.html
//Checks if title was checked already
var checklistRequest = alertFunction();
var titleAccepted = true;
for (var a = 0; a < checklistRequest.length; a++)//Iterates through whole array
{
if(title != checklistRequest[i] && titleAccepted == true)//Stops if false
{
titleAccepted = true;
}
else
{
titleAccepted = false;
}
}
you need to parse the object at some point.
Try:
return JSON.parse(retrievedObject);
