Hiding certain elements in DataTables - javascript

I'm trying to hide certain elements from a table I implemented via DataTable.
I got the search function disabled but now I'm struggling with the "Show entries" bit.
I need the function in the backend for the table to work properly, I just dont want the frontend user to see the menu (since it is not really necessary).
I tried so far to block the display, but that didnt work.
The code so far:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://cdn.datatables.net/v/dt/jq-3.3.1/dt-1.10.23/datatables.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.tableizer-table').DataTable( {
"searching": false,
"pageLength": 100,
retrieve: true
} );
} );
</script>
The bit on the page I'm talking about.
Is there any way to do this or do I need the "Editor" version? Thanks in advance :)

You are looking for the dom option of datatables.net
In this case the standard is lfrtip I think, where;
l is the length control.
f is the search filter.
Removing these from the string will not inject that element into the page.
$('.tableizer-table').DataTable({
dom: "rtip"
});

JavaScript
var table = $('#example').DataTable();
var columns = ["Name", "Position", "Office", "Age", "Start date", "Salary"];
var rows = [];
var table_data = table.rows().data();
for (var i in table_data) {
rows.push(table_data[i]);
}
var doc = new jsPDF('p', 'pt');
doc.autoTable(columns, rows);
$('#cmd').click(function() {
doc.save('table.pdf');
});
For some reason, some extra page is printing. I haven't find any solution of this problem yet. How can i exclude extra pages from pdf ?
Cycle through data array as shown below:
for(var i = 0; i < table_data.length; i++){
rows.push(table_data[i]);
}
API method data() returns API instance instead of the plain array so that API methods could be chained. However if you access elements with [] and query array length with length property, it will work just fine.
See updated jsFiddle for code and demonstration.

Convert Pagination to Dropdown-style Pager

My team recently decided to use DataTables for our project which outputs out it's own pagination with really clean HTML. However, we had designed a specific dropdown style pager prior to this decision that we really want to use.
I've been trying to figure out how to do this with CSS and jQuery, without much luck. Hopefully someone can help. This is the HTML I'm working with:
<ul class="pagination">
<li class="paginate_button previous"><</li>
<li class="paginate_button">1</li>
<li class="paginate_button">2</li>
<li class="paginate_button">3</li>
<li class="paginate_button">4</li>
<li class="paginate_button">5</li>
<li class="paginate_button next">></li>
</ul>
Which looks like this:
What I want to do is take the list of pages and put them into a dropdown like this:
I figure I could use the :before selector and style it like a button for toggling the dropdown, however, I'm having trouble figuring out how I'd target only the pages and not the previous and next buttons since they're all nested in the same <ul>.
I haven't been able to figure out how to change the HTML DataTables outputs, but I might have to go that route.
SOLUTION 1
You can use the following code to select all li elements that represent pages and then manipulate it with jQuery.
$('.dataTables_paginate li')
.not('.previous')
.not('.next')
.not('.first')
.not('.last')
.not('.ellipsis');
See this jsFiddle for code and demonstration.
SOLUTION 2
You can use Select list pagination plug-in, see the example below:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#example').dataTable({
"pagingType": "listbox"
});
});

Dynamically turn bSearchable option when hiding columns

Is there a way to update the bSearchable parameters of the initialized columns option for an already initialized Datatable? The use case being that when dynamically hiding/showing columns using the ColVis plugin, the search box should not be able to filter based on hidden column values as this is disorienting.
This is the default behavior seen in the ColVis example page. I've tried manually updating the bSearchable value of individual columns but there doesn't seem to be a method to do so. Or is there?
Although I couldn't find it in documentation, I was able to find this post where Allan Jardine, creator of DataTables plug-in, recommends the method my answer is based on.
However the method mentioned in the post is not complete and requires table invalidation/re-draw for new setting to take effect.
Property this.s.dt in stateChange callback once it's called will contain DataTables.Settings object that we can modify to indicate that one of the columns should not be searchable.
Call api.rows().invalidate().draw() re-applies filtering rules and re-draws the table.
$('#example').DataTable({
dom: 'C<"clear">lfrtip',
colVis: {
stateChange: function(iColumn, bVisible) {
// Set searchable option based on whether column is visible
this.s.dt.aoColumns[iColumn].bSearchable = bVisible;
var api = new $.fn.dataTable.Api(this.s.dt);
api.rows().invalidate().draw();
}
}
});
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#example').DataTable({
dom: 'C<"clear">lfrtip',
colVis: {
stateChange: function(iColumn, bVisible) {
this.s.dt.aoColumns[iColumn].bSearchable = bVisible;
var api = new $.fn.dataTable.Api(this.s.dt);
api.rows().invalidate().draw();
}
}
});
});

You have 42 rows in your example. But your Page-Size is 10.
To get PageSize, you might want to use this:
https://datatables.net/reference/api/page.len()
Maybe this helps to make things clearer:
$(document).ready(function () {
var table=$('#example').dataTable({"pageLength": 30});
var tbl = $('#example').DataTable();
alert(JSON.stringify(tbl.page.info()));
});
I edited your jsfiddle example: https://jsfiddle.net/6w8nbhr1/1/
You can get exact rows count in datatable object by using:
table.data().length;
Typically data object contains the arrays of rows, each row is an array under the object.
add this in datatable options
var table = $('#datatable_fixed_column')
.DataTable({
columns: [{....}],
"ajax": {....},
"initComplete": function (settings, json) {//here is the tricky part
var count = $('#my-table tr').length-1
$(".badge").html(count);
}
initComplete will be executed when your table has fully been initialised,
so using jquery Get all tr then -1 for the header

jQuery DataTables plugin - how to access the underlying data

I have a page that I'm using a jQuery datatables from https://datatables.net/. In another part of the page I am performing some validation that requires data from that table. i.e. I need to find a value from one of the rows of the generated DataTable.
The DataTables plugin only shows 10 rows of data. I need to traverse all records. The plugin must store that data somewhere but I'm not sure where.
Does anyone know how to access that data or how to find out how to find it?
As a contingency I can store the data separately but I'd rather not duplicate it.
--Update: My company has strict policies regarding posting code. But I can easily use an example from their web site to illustrate. https://datatables.net/examples/basic_init/zero_configuration.html
Javascript:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#example').dataTable();
} );

</table>
In this example, I need to find the age of Shad Decker. Because only 10 rows are shown once the table is generated I cannot traverse the html table itself. The DataTables plugin reads all the rows, puts them somewhere, and then shows 10 records. I would like to use that data source to find the age without having to create another array with the values in it.
Well i presume you do validation after loading data into dataTable .
Then its quite straight forward :
Step1:
var myData = $('#example').dataTable();
step2:
//now access myData and get your work done
var tableData = myData.rows().data();
Well i guess from now on words its quite st.forward to deal things :) loop it for more data with conditions and index positions :)
Regards
Take a look at the JQuery DataTables API. You can use row() to get the exact row you are looking for or use rows() to get all the rows of the table (or just some rows).
You can find many examples of row selection using the API here.
