How to fix randomly populating HTML table? - javascript

I'm getting the lat/lng of a location based on excel sheet input & outputting onto an HTML table. I'm able to get the correct coordinates; however, they do not output to the right column (they randomly populate the table, I want them next to their corresponding address). I discovered that the coordinates will populate correctly when I have the alert(newArray[n]); before the geocode searches.
Is there anyway I could fix this? Below is a snippet of my code:

Here's a trick to populate tables asynchronously... but it requires a different approach to inserting cells like what you're doing.
Build your full table beforehand in a string with a dummy image in each cell like this...
<td> <img style="display:none;" src="X" onerror="this.outerHTML=FetchSomeValue(this.row,this.col);"> </td>
And display the string to screen. As each image load FAILS, it'll call the function FetchSomeValue(Row,Col) and populate correctly by replacing the dummy image.
NB: I use this technique with images or iframes (depending) all the time, flawlessly.
Images and Iframes have a ONLOAD event which we can take advantage of.

createElement and loops [duplicate]

In JavaScript I am creating a grid (the type of grid you see in Photoshop) with HTML tables. The grid size is going to be variable, i.e., changeable by the user, so the size of each grid square must be calculated and divided by the number of pixels available to get an exact size grid.
I've done all this, but I have a problem adding in the necessary table elements to create the grid. My code is in full working order, except when I use the appendChild() function inside a for loop it only ever appends a single child, when it should be appending up to a couple of hundred.

You are appending the same element over and over. You need to call document.createElement each time you wish to have a new element.
EDIT: If the element setup is really complicated and potentially includes children then you can also use Node.cloneNode
If you want to make one copy of the element, you will need to clone it. Use cloneNode()
So change
grid.tr.appendChild(grid.td);
to
grid.tr.appendChild(grid.td.cloneNode(true));

jQuery, adding multiple table rows is not working correctly

The idea is to build a function that takes an input and uses that to build a grid. I'm trying to establish the grid functionality first, and I'm having a peculiar error. I searched for a few hours, but the answers all tell me that a simple "append" should be working.
The specific error that I am getting:
When I load up the webpage, it is only adding one table row to the tbody, and only one table data to that table row. The idea is instead to create a grid of 16 x 16, with 16 rows and 16 data. Console logs show that the loops are all working correctly.
The html is just a basic file that imports the javascript correctly (All tested) with a simple:

You are appending to the same variables all the time...row and 'data`. you should not do that.
As you can see from the code below, you need to create the var row = $("<tr>"); on each loop, to reference it when you append the <td> (table cell) to that newly created row.

Of course, this is not a good way generating a table. running jQuery function on each loop is slow and bad practice. You should generate a big string which will represent your DOM structure and then append that string where needed and jQuery will make a DOM node out of it.
I made up my own html for this but it should be as simple as using two nested for loops grabbing values the size input. Here's what I came up with:

JavaScript : Delete dynamically created table

I am new to web development and struggling with deleting a dynamically created table.
Below is the JavaScript function to create the table when user clicks a button.

The above code works perfectly and draws the table when user clicks on the button.
If user clicks on the button again it will draw the table again.
i.e., it will draw another header and all the rows all over again.
At this point I want to delete the existing header and rows and draw it all new.
I tried many things to delete the existing table, but nothing works.
Is there a way I can make sure that the table is not duplicated again?

jQuery offers a .empty() function that you can use

Or with javascript you can just set the innerHTML to empty

Just execute this function before you start trying to add new content to the table.

Since you're using jQuery, just do this: $('#containerIdThatYourTableSitsIn').html('');
That will clear the html of whatever element your table sits in. Then just reload it.

As the comments have mentioned, .empty() is another option.

How do I access DOM nodes from an array in javascript?

I am trying to build a drop-down menu that will show a row to the side of it when you hover over one of the cells with the mouse. I'm really new with using the DOM, and javascript as well.
The problem I'm running into is that the array I have created doesn't seem to access what I thought it should. Is it just my syntax, or do I need to approach this differently? Here is my code:

This syntax is invalid in JavaScript: you have specified two indices for tableCell but I guess you meant tableCell[0][i].style.display="block";

Once you fix the first error, you will want to change this to tableCell[0][i].textContent.
tableCell[i].push.apply(tableCell[i], tableRows[i].getElementsByTagName("td"));
You don't want to push the single array in. You want to push all the elements in. Otherwise you would have to access them as tableCell[i][0][j]

Support for muliple table ids through javascript method

I am using the following method to read header names in a table and put in excel. Could anyone let me know how to modify this to support multiple tables with header info and data.
i.e. how to modify to pass table id. "headers" is the id for "th" tag in code.

Your question is a bit vague, so I'm guessing at what you want. Assuming your current function works as is, you can just take out the hard-coding of the table's ID and pass it in as a parameter:

Then call it once for each table, though that will create a new ExcelSheet for each table.
If the idea is for all of the tables to be added to the same ExcelSheet you can pass an array of table IDs to the function something like the following. I've kept the basic structure of your function but moved the variable declarations out of the loops (since that what JavaScript does behind the scenes anyway), deleted your ExcellApp variable since it wasn't used, and moved the getElementsByTagName call out of the inner loop.
