Unsure why my javascript code is not working - javascript

I am getting some errors with this code. Apparently split is not a function. I am also getting this error:
GET http://localhost:8000/favicon.ico 404 (File not found)
Basically what I am trying to do is convert a csv to a 2D array through which I loop and do some analysis. I'm not great with javascript so please don't crucify me lol. But please feel free to point out any other issues I really need this to work!
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src = "https://d3js.org/d3.v4.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<script>
d3.csv('enrollment.csv', function(data) {
function csvToArray(csv) {
rows = csv.split("\n");
return rows.map(function (row) {
return row.split(",");
});
};
let count = 0;
let enroll = csvToArray(data);
console.log(enroll);
let dup_Tracker = [];
for (i = 1; i < enroll.length; i++) {
if (enroll[i][1] === enroll[i-1][1]) {
if (enroll[i][0] !== enroll[i-1][0]) {
dup_Tracker.push(enroll[i]);
}
} else {
count += 1;
}
}
});
// console.log(dup_Tracker);
</script>
</body>
</html>

How do I include jQuery in my js file without html

I made a chrome extension where my popup button calls a script. The other script uses jQuery but I get an error saying jQuery is not defined.
My popup.html:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>HomAttendance</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1 style="color:#E54E4E">Hom<span style="color:#4E97E5">Attendance</span></h1>
<button type id="record" style="background-color:White"><h1 style="color:Black">Record Attendance</h1></button>
</body>
<script src="jquery-3.4.1.min.js"></script>
<script src="popup.js"></script>
</html>
My popup.js:
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() {
var login = document.getElementById('record');
login.addEventListener('click', function() {
chrome.tabs.executeScript({file: 'markStudents.js'});
});
});
myScript.js:
var arrays = []
$.get('Attendance.txt', function(data){
var splitted = data.split("\n"); // --> should return an array for each line
// Loop through all lines
for(var i = 0; i < splitted.length; i++)
{
var line = splitted[i];
// Now you could remove [ and ] from string
var removed = line.replace('[','').replace(']','');
var refined = removed.replace(' ', '');
// Now you can split all values by using , delimiter
var values = refined.split(',');
var array = [];
// Now you can iterate through all values and add them to your array
for(var c = 0; c < values.length; c++)
{
var value = values[c];
array.push(value);
}
arrays.push(array);
}
});
var present = arrays[0];
console.log(present);
var absent = arrays[1];
console.log(absent);
var user = present[0];
var pass = absent[0];
var loginField = document.getElementById('fieldAccount');
var passwordField = document.getElementById('fieldPassword');
loginField.value = user;
passwordField.value = pass;
var loginForm = document.getElementById('btn-enter-sign-in');
Is there any way to include my jquery.js in myScript.js?
Console Error
Just import jquery before you import popup.js
Like this
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>HomAttendance</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1 style="color:#E54E4E">Hom<span style="color:#4E97E5">Attendance</span></h1>
<button type id="record" style="background-color:White"><h1 style="color:Black">Record Attendance</h1></button>
</body>
<script src="jquery-3.4.1.min.js"></script>
<script src="popup.js"></script>
</html>
Inside Your popup.js, when you load markStudents.js which uses jQuery, you'd again have to load jQuery before same
Like this
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function () {
var login = document.getElementById('record');
login.addEventListener('click', function () {
chrome.tabs.executeScript(null, { file: "jquery-3.4.1.min.js" }, function () {
chrome.tabs.executeScript(null, { file: "markStudents.js" });
});
});
});
Just reorder your script tags and put jQuery before your popup.js. That way it will be loaded when you try to call it.
yo can use this code to include another jquery file in your jquery:
$.getScript("file address");
like this:
$.getScript("/assets/pages/scripts/ui-blockui.min.js");

How can I get user input in java script and display this input on page?

I am new to java and am trying to create a game that simulates hangman. I am trying to get the letters from the user after they input on keyboard. However, when I type something it doesn't make any difference, it doesn't output whether it is correct or incorrect. I think I may not be using the event in my guessLetter() function correctly, any help would be greatly appreciated.
window.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function() {
var word = ['taco'];
let randNum = Math.floor(Math.random() * word.length);
let chosenWord = word[randNum];
let underScore = [];
let docUnderScore = document.getElementsByClassName('underScore');
let docRightGuess = document.getElementsByClassName('rightGuess');
let docWrongGuess = document.getElementsByClassName('wrongGuess');
console.log(chosenWord); //lets grader cheat
let generateUnderscore = () => {
for (let i = 0; i < chosenWord.length; i++) {
underScore.push('_');
}
return underScore;
}
document.onkeyup = function guessLetter(event) {
let letter = String.fromCharCode(event.keyCode || event.code).toLowerCase();
if (chosenWord.indexOf(letter) > -1) {
rightWord.push(letter);
underScore[chosenWord.indexOf(letter)] = letter;
docUnderScore[0].innerHTML = underScore.join(' ');
docRightGuess[0].innerHTML = rightWord;
if (underScore.join('') === chosenWord) {
alert('CONGRATS! YOU WIN!!!');
} else {
wrongWord.push(letter);
docWrongGuess[0].innerHTML = wrongWord;
}
}
underScore[0].innerHTML = generateUnderscore().join(' ');
}
});
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<h1> Hangman </h1>
<div id="guesses">
<div class="letter" id="letter" </div>
</div>
</head>
<body>
</body>
<div class="container">
<div class="underScore">_ _ _ _</div>
<div class="rightGuess"> right guess </div>
<div class="wrongGuess"> wrong guess </div>
</div>
</html>
In the JS console, ReferenceErrors are being thrown as a result of the fact that the rightWord and wrongWord variables have not been defined.
You are writing the in head tag why ? it doesn't shown in your web page , place the html tags within body.

How to return contents of php using javascript $.get

I have a PHP script hosted in the root of a working LAMP server which provides me with the output of a MySQL query. The typical output of values.php:

I am trying to use $.get to break it up and list it on a page. My code is as follows but it won't work:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<body>
<script>
function() {
var switch1 = true;
$.get('values.php', function(data) {
data = data.split('/');
for (var i in data)
{
if (switch1 == true)
{
document.write(data[i] + " Temp: ");
switch1 = false;
}
else
{
document.writeln(data[i]);
switch1 = true;
}
}
});
};
</script>
</body>
</html>
Any ideas where I am going wrong?
I should have added the code <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.2.4/jque‌ry.min.js"></script> in the html. Final code is as follows and works fine:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
</head>
<body>
<script>
var switch1 = true;
$.get('values.php', function(data) {
data = data.split('/');
for (var i in data)
{
if (switch1 == true)
{
document.write(data[i] + " Temp: ");
switch1 = false;
}
else
{
document.write(data[i] + "<br>");
switch1 = true;
}
}
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
Thanks to all.
I don't know what your PHP script actually returns but if I store manually to data it seems to work the way you expected. Can you explain what exactly does not work?
I would shorten code bit though:
var switch1 = true;
var data = "2017-01-12 22:02:17/12/2017-01-12 22:03:18/12/2017-01-12 22:04:18/12/2017-01-12 22:05:18/12/2017-01-12 22:06:18/12/2017-01-12 22:07:19/12/2017-01-12 22:08:19/12/2017-01-12 22:09:19/12/2017-01-12 22:10:20/12/2017-01-12 22:11:20/12/2017-01-12 22:12:20/12/2017-01-12 22:13:21/12/2017-01-12 22:14:21/12/2017-01-12 22:15:21/12/2017-01-12 22:16:21/12/2017-01-12 22:17:22/12/2017-01-12 22:18:22/11/2017-01-12 22:19:22/11/2017-01-12 22:20:23/12/2017-01-12 22:21:23/11/2017-01-12 22:22:23/11/2017-01-12 22:23:24/11/2017-01-12 22:24:24/11/2017-01-12 22:25:24/11/2017-01-12 22:26:25/11/2017-01-12 22:27:25/11/2017-01-12 22:28:25/11"
data = data.split('/').map(function(i){
document.write(i + (switch1 ? " Temp: " : ""));
switch1 = !switch1;
});
Give this a try, should do what you are looking for...
var content = "2017-01-12 22:02:17/12/2017-01-12 22:03:18/12/2017-01-12 22:04:18/12/2017-01-12 22:05:18/12/2017-01-12 22:06:18/12/2017-01-12 22:07:19/12/2017-01-12 22:08:19/12/2017-01-12 22:09:19/12/2017-01-12 22:10:20/12/2017-01-12 22:11:20/12/2017-01-12 22:12:20/12/2017-01-12 22:13:21/12/2017-01-12 22:14:21/12/2017-01-12 22:15:21/12/2017-01-12 22:16:21/12/2017-01-12 22:17:22/12/2017-01-12 22:18:22/11/2017-01-12 22:19:22/11/2017-01-12 22:20:23/12/2017-01-12 22:21:23/11/2017-01-12 22:22:23/11/2017-01-12 22:23:24/11/2017-01-12 22:24:24/11/2017-01-12 22:25:24/11/2017-01-12 22:26:25/11/2017-01-12 22:27:25/11/2017-01-12 22:28:25/11";
var regexp = /(\d{4}-\d{2}-\d{2}\s+\d{2}:\d{2}:\d{2})\/(\d{2})/g;
var matches;
while ( matches = regexp.exec( content ) ) {
document.write( matches[1] + " Temp: " + matches[2] + "<br/>");
}
Hope this helps!

Recursion function in XML using Javascript DOM

i am trying to make html page, that should shows all the nodes in xml file. there are other ways but i want to do it using javascript DOM through recursive function. i've tried this. suggest please.

<!DOCTYPE html>

var httpreq=null;
var response=null;

setTimeout("loadDocument()",1000);
function loadDoc()

if(window.XMLHttpRequest)
httpreq=new window.XMLHttpRequest();
else
httpreq=new ActiveXObect("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
httpreq.open("get","ADI_SUPPORT.xml",true);
httpreq.send(null);
//httpreq.onreadystatechange=loadDocument;
}
function loadDocument()
{
res=httpreq.responseXML;
play("loaded");
traverse(res.documentElement);
}
function traverse(element)
{
play("inside function with element =>"+element.nodeName);

Jquery .get not retrieving file

i have a code that is supposed to read from a html file, split it into an array and display parts of that array, but when going though with alert, i found that $.get is not actually getting the file
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"> </script>
</head>
<body>
<button onclick="myfunction()">update</button>
<div id="div1"></div>
<script>
function myfunction() {
var info = "";
$.get("../Read_Test/text.html", function(data) {
SomeFunction(data);
});
alert(info);
var array = info.split("§n");
var people = array[1].split(",");
for (var i = 0; i < people.length; i++) {
document.getElementById("div1").innerHTML = people[i] + "<br>";
}
}
function SomeFunction(data) {
var info = data;
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
the directories are on a server and go like so:
Sublinks->Read_Test->This_File.html,text.html
The objective of this is that a file would have something along the lines of "a§nb1,b2,b3,§n" and the script would split it via "§n" then get "array[1]" and split that via ",". lastly it displays each part of that newly created array on a new line, so a file with "a§nb1,b2,b3,§n" would result in:
b1
b2
b3
Please help
Ajax is asynchronous, it make request and immediately call the next instruction and not wait for the response from the ajax request. so you will need to process inside of $.get. success event.
I have changed delimiter character to ¥. change same in text.html. problem was you have not mentioned character set to utf8 and due to this it could not recognized the special character and subsequently not able to split the string. i have aldo document type to HTML5.

<script>
function myfunction() {
