I have a Highcharts' bar chart with long labels.
I would like to allow them to grow up to 50% of the width of the container.
But no matter what I would do, they are not growing to this width.
Here is an example:
https://jsfiddle.net/agex7m0o/1/
Highcharts.chart('container', {
chart: {
type: 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Historic World Population by Region'
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Source: Wikipedia.org'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Africa Long Name Long Name Long Name Long Name Long Name', 'America', 'Asia', 'Europe', 'Oceania'],
title: {
text: null
},
labels: {
overflow: 'justify'
}
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Population (millions)',
align: 'high'
},
labels: {
overflow: 'justify'
}
},
tooltip: {
valueSuffix: ' millions'
},
plotOptions: {
bar: {
dataLabels: {
enabled: true
}
}
},
legend: {
layout: 'vertical',
align: 'right',
verticalAlign: 'top',
x: -40,
y: 80,
floating: true,
borderWidth: 1,
backgroundColor:
Highcharts.defaultOptions.legend.backgroundColor || '#FFFFFF',
shadow: true
},
credits: {
enabled: false
},
series: [{
name: 'Year 1800',
data: [107, 31, 635, 203, 2]
}, {
name: 'Year 1900',
data: [133, 156, 947, 408, 6]
}, {
name: 'Year 2000',
data: [814, 841, 3714, 727, 31]
}, {
name: 'Year 2016',
data: [1216, 1001, 4436, 738, 40]
}]
});
As you can see, the width of the left side (with the labels) is clearly narrower than the chart side. The labels are wrapping already, but the left side is not growing.
Do you have any idea ?
You can play with the margin parameter by adding in your chart options:
chart: {
type: 'bar',
margin: [50,10,50,400]
},
see exemple : here

In the below demo the chart yAxis width is set as 50% of the general chart container width. Is that a solution which you have been looking for?
Demo: https://jsfiddle.net/BlackLabel/z0vbcf5x/
events: {
render() {
let chart = this;
if (chartForRender) {
chartForRender = false;
chart.update({
chart: {
marginLeft: chart.chartWidth / 2
}
}, true, false, false)
}
chartForRender = true;
}
}

I am working on highchart. I am trying to build a bar chart with a single entry against each category. Right now I am working on an example basic-bar. Below is the output
Expected Output
I want a single entry against each category. For example against April, I want only one bar not multiple and so on
Here is the working jsFiddle
you just use the parameter visible:
Highcharts.chart('container', {
chart: {
type: 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Historic World Population by Region'
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Source: Wikipedia.org'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Africa', 'America', 'Asia', 'Europe', 'Oceania'],
title: {
text: null
}
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Population (millions)',
align: 'high'
},
labels: {
overflow: 'justify'
}
},
tooltip: {
valueSuffix: ' millions'
},
plotOptions: {
bar: {
dataLabels: {
enabled: true
}
}
},
legend: {
layout: 'vertical',
align: 'right',
verticalAlign: 'top',
x: -40,
y: 80,
floating: true,
borderWidth: 1,
backgroundColor:
Highcharts.defaultOptions.legend.backgroundColor || '#FFFFFF',
shadow: true
},
credits: {
enabled: false
},
series: [
/*{
visible: false,
name: 'Year 1800',
data: [107, 31, 635, 203, 2]
}, {
visible: false,
name: 'Year 1900',
data: [133, 156, 947, 408, 6]
}, {
visible: false,
name: 'Year 2000',
data: [814, 841, 3714, 727, 31]
}, */
{
visible: true,
name: 'Year 2016',
data: [1216, 1001, 4436, 738, 40]
}]

I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to plot a line per category in highcharts, i've tried for a while following this doc and my current chart looks like this:
What i want to achieve is something like this:
with each line stoping on the next category, this way i can set "goals" per category.
My code so far
Highcharts.chart('container', {
chart: {
type: 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Historic World Population by Region'
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Source: Wikipedia.org'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Africa', 'America', 'Asia', 'Europe', 'Oceania'],
title: {
text: null
}
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Population (millions)',
align: 'high'
},
labels: {
overflow: 'justify'
},
plotLines: [{
color: 'red',
value: 300,
width: 2
}]
},
tooltip: {
valueSuffix: ' millions'
},
plotOptions: {
bar: {
dataLabels: {
enabled: false
}
}
},
legend: {
layout: 'vertical',
align: 'right',
verticalAlign: 'top',
x: -40,
y: 80,
floating: true,
borderWidth: 1,
backgroundColor: ((Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.legendBackgroundColor) || '#FFFFFF'),
shadow: true
},
credits: {
enabled: false
},
series: [{
name: 'Gastos',
data: [107, 31, 635, 203, 2],
color: '#f25a41'
}, {
name: 'Renda',
data: [133, 156, 947, 408, 6],
color: '#5c90f9'
}]
});
The easiest way would be to create custom marker for each category using Renderer.path() function.

I would like to have something similar to the image below, but the columns representing the classes all stack together now. How do I separate them and allow them to load dynamically as well?
Also I need a legend that says green is band 1, yellow is band 2, orange is band 3 and red is band 4, how do i do that as well? My code is in the JS Fiddle page. I am not allowed to use jQuery, need to use pure JavaScript.
var options = {
chart: {
renderTo : 'container',
type: 'column'
},
title: {
text: 'Topic & Subtopic Mastery'
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Average Level-Stream Mastery vs Average Class Mastery'
},
xAxis: {
categories: topics
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
max: 100,
title: {
text: 'Mastery'
}
},
legend: {
layout: 'vertical',
backgroundColor: '#FFFFFF',
align: 'left',
verticalAlign: 'top',
x: 100,
y: 70,
floating: true,
shadow: true
},
tooltip: {
shared: true,
valueSuffix: ' %'
},
plotOptions: {
column: {
grouping: false,
shadow: false
}
},
series: resultsData
};

I came up with a solution you are looking for with specifying x and y axis data for level and giving appropriate width to the point.
$(function() {
var chart;
$(document).ready(function() {
var i = 0;
Highcharts.getOptions().colors = Highcharts.map(Highcharts.getOptions().colors, function(color) {
if (i == 0) {
i++;
return Highcharts.Color(color)
.setOpacity(1)
.get('rgba');
} else {
i++;
return Highcharts.Color(color)
.setOpacity(0.5)
.get('rgba');
}
});
var colors = Highcharts.getOptions().colors;
chart = new Highcharts.Chart({
chart: {
renderTo: 'container',
type: 'column',
plotBackgroundColor: null,
plotBorderWidth: null,
plotShadow: false,
borderColor: null
},
title: {
text: 'Mailboxes over Quota'
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Mailbox Size in MB'
},
exporting: {
enabled: false
},
credits: {
enabled: false
},
xAxis: {
categories: ["Overall Topic", "Topic 1", "Topic 2"],
title: {
text: null
}
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Total',
align: 'high'
},
allowDecimals: false,
},
tooltip: {
formatter: function() {
return '' +
this.series.name + ': ' + Highcharts.numberFormat(this.y, 0, '.', ',');
}
},
legend: {
enabled: true
},
credits: {
enabled: false
},
series: [{
name: 'Level',
color: colors[0],
data: [{
y: 86,
x: 0.25
}, {
y: 80,
x: 1.25
}, {
y: 95,
x: 2.25
}],
pointWidth: 80
}, {
name: '4A',
data: [90, 88, 97]
}, {
name: '4B',
data: [95, 78, 92]
}, {
name: '4C',
data: [80, 69, 84]
}]
});
});
});
To show in label inside your column you can use below code.
plotOptions: {
column: {
dataLabels: {
enabled: true,
formatter: function() {
return this.series.name;
},
y: 25,
}
}
}
You can see it in action at this JSFIddle
Hi I am using the Highcharts library to create a bar chart with a cumulative plot line as demonstrated in the jsFiddle below.
CHART DEMO
I am looking to have the cumulative series represented like the red line in the following image (with cumulative values plotted on the right-most axis):
SAMPLE OF DESIRED OUTPUT
As you can see the secondary Y Axis is flipped and is displaying the series index value rather than the actual cumuative values.
Here is the current code:
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type: 'column'
},
title: {
text: 'Historic World Population by Region'
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Source: Wikipedia.org'
},
xAxis: [{
categories: ['Africa', 'America', 'Asia', 'Europe', 'Oceania'],
title: {
text: null,
}
},
{
opposite:true,
title: {
text: "Cumulative"
}
}],
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Population (millions)',
align: 'high'
}
},
tooltip: {
valueSuffix: ' millions'
},
plotOptions: {
bar: {
dataLabels: {
enabled: true
}
}
},
legend: {
layout: 'vertical',
align: 'right',
verticalAlign: 'top',
x: -40,
y: 100,
floating: true,
borderWidth: 1,
backgroundColor: ((Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.legendBackgroundColor) || '#FFFFFF'),
shadow: true
},
credits: {
enabled: false
},
series: [{
name: 'Year 1900',
data: [133, 156, 947, 408, 6]
}, {
name: 'Year 2008',
data: [973, 914, 4054, 732, 34]
}, {
name: 'Cumulative',
xAxis:1,
type:"spline",
data: [34, 732, 914, 1973, 4054]
}
]
});
How can I correct this in order to plot the series as intended?
Thanks!
What you can do is after loading add a new series based on the sum of the 2 series added at creation:
events: {
load: function () {
var s1900 = this.series[0].data;
var s2008 = this.series[1].data;
var newData = [];
if (s1900.length == s2008.length) {
for (var i = 0; i < s1900.length; i++) {
newData.push(s1900[i].y + s2008[i].y);
}
}
this.addSeries({
name: 'Cumulative',
xAxis: 0,
type: "spline",
data: newData
});
}
}
I am not sure why you want this on the opposite xAxis or why your curve in the linked image you supplied is not really the cumulative unless that is not what you really want. See live demo.
Note you are going to have to handle cases where not all points have a value or if one category is not in both series, etc etc etc.
Revised answer.
Assuming you want to have the same categories on the alternate xAxis and do not want to share the same yAxis you can do:
...
xAxis: [{
categories: ['Africa', 'America', 'Asia', 'Europe', 'Oceania'],
title: {
text: null
}
}, {
categories: ['Africa', 'America', 'Asia', 'Europe', 'Oceania'],
opposite: true,
title: {
text: null
}
}],
yAxis: [{
min: 0,
endOnTick: false,
title: {
text: 'Population (millions)',
align: 'high'
}
}, {
min: 0,
opposite: true,
reversed: true,
endOnTick: true,
title: {
text: 'Cumulative Population (millions)',
align: 'high'
}
}],
...
This sets it up so that you have identical xAxis categories (other ways to do this). See new demo.
I'm creating a bar chart using high charts. Here is a sample: http://jsfiddle.net/anishantha87/kfg5c/3/
$(function () {
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type: 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Historic World Population by Region'
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Source: Wikipedia.org'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Europe', 'Oceania','France'],
title: {
text: null
}
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Population (millions)',
align: 'high'
},
labels: {
overflow: 'justify'
}
},
tooltip: {
valueSuffix: ' millions'
},
plotOptions: {
bar: {
dataLabels: {
enabled: true
}
},
},
legend: {
layout: 'vertical',
align: 'right',
verticalAlign: 'top',
x: -40,
y: 100,
floating: true,
borderWidth: 1,
backgroundColor: '#FFFFFF',
shadow: true
},
credits: {
enabled: false
},
series: [{
name: 'Year 1800',
data: [ 203, 200,200]
}, {
name: 'Year 1900',
data: [ 408, 60,null]
}, {
name: 'Year 2008',
data: [ 732, 34,null]
}]
});
});
In that I have null value for France. It displays the bar down below the France.(not vertically aligned with the Y axis name)
Any suggestions pls?
