Trigger a click in a child class - javascript

I've been trying to find ways to trigger the dropdown (of class "update-message-button") using jquery when I click in the blank spaces of the parent <td> (of class "message-row") and even when clicked on its corresponding <td> (class "message-type-row").
I have attached my jquery code, but the dropdown doesn't get triggered.
Thanks in advance
$(".message-row").on("click", function () {
$(".update-message-button").trigger("click");
return false;
});
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<tr>
<td class="message-row" scope="row">
<div class="dropdown dropleft">
<a class="update-message-button" type="button" id="dropdownMenuButton" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">
{{this.message}}
</a>
<div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="dropdownMenuButton">
<a class="dropdown-item update-message-id" href="#" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#exampleModal" data-id="{{this._id}}">Update</a>
<a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Remove</a>
</div>
</div>
</td>
<td class="message-type-row">
{{this.messageType}}
</td>
</tr>

Your script works,
BUT since .update-message-button is within .message-row
a click within .message-row triggers your trigger which in turn triggers the parent on('click'), and enters into an endless loop.
You might have to rethink your design, or use maybe: event.stopPropagation() to stop the execution after the first click.
Edit:
This works:
$(document).on("click", ".message-row",function () {
$(".update-message-button").triggerHandler("click");
});

It says you're new...so welcome to Stack!
If you don't use a JavaScript Framework at your workplace...jQuery is a perfectly fine approach
In looking at your HTML & explanation...it isn't really "that clear" what you are trying to accomplish. And, if I am correct, I feel your approach has some issues. That said...I will "try" to stay within the boundaries of what I believe you are asking (and try not to change it too much).
It "looks" like you want to...
Display a "dropdown" (of sorts) when the parent is 'clicked'
Manage the "update & remove" options when chosen
In anayzing the HTML you provide...you may also be wanting to notify other components of the users choice (so I added that too).
SIDE NOTES:
I "compressed" the CSS & HTML down a bit for you
Message...is your 'Record Class'
MessagePublisher...is your 'HTML Template Class'
SubscriptionController...is the 'Subscriber Class' (this is optional)
logger...logs to the console (handy...but also optional)
Cheers!

How to add a class by click only one item from the array

I have two arrays. On the first I add 'click'. And inside it there is another array. In the second array, when I click, I need to add the class only to the selected element of the array.
let mobileToggle = document.querySelectorAll('.mobile__toggle').forEach(e => {
e.addEventListener('click', function(event) {
let evt = event.currentTarget
if (evt) {
document.querySelectorAll('.mobile__submenu').forEach(e => {
e.classList.toggle('menu__open')
});
}
})
});
Thanks for the previous answer. This code works. But I have more nesting elements. In this case, the code does not work. Its part of my HTML code:
<li class="mobile__nav--item">Гитары<span class="mobile__toggle"></span></li>
<ul class="mobile__submenu">
<li class="mobile__submenu--item">Акустические гитары</li>
<li class="mobile__submenu--item-2">Вестерн гитары</li>
<li class="mobile__submenu--item-2">Классические гитары</li>
<li class="mobile__submenu--item">Электроаккустические гитары</li>
</ul>
Instead of document.querySelectorAll you could use evt.querySelectorAll which will select only those element which are under the current element:
document.querySelectorAll('.mobile__toggle').forEach(e => {
e.addEventListener('click', function(event) {
let evt = event.currentTarget
if (evt) {
evt.querySelectorAll('.mobile__submenu').forEach(e => {
e.classList.toggle('menu__open')
});
}
});
});
.menu__open {
display: block !important;
}
.mobile__submenu {
display: none;
}
.mobile__toggle:hover {
width: 100px;
color: blue;
cursor: pointer;
}
<div class="mobile__toggle">
First
<div class="mobile__submenu">11</div>
<div class="mobile__submenu">12</div>
<div class="mobile__submenu">13</div>
</div>
<div class="mobile__toggle">
Second
<div class="mobile__submenu">21</div>
<div class="mobile__submenu">22</div>
<div class="mobile__submenu">23</div>
</div>

Toggle changed button class

I want to create a toggle button where will change button class from class="fa fa-toggle-off" to class="fa fa-toggle-on" when clicked.
<button class="btn btn-default" id="btn" name="btn"><i id="change" class="fa fa-toggle-off"></i></button>
I create the javascript below, however it changed the button style="display:none" instead change its class.
$(function() {
$('#btn').click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
var display = true,
image = 'details_close.png';
if ($('.td1:visible').length == $('.td1').length) {
display = false;
image = 'details_open.png';
}
$('.td1').toggle(display);
$("#change").toggle(function()
{
$('#change').removeClass("fa-toggle-off").addClass("fa-toggle-on");
}, function() {
$('#change').removeClass("fa-toggle-on").addClass("fa-toggle-off");
});
});
});
There you go, I used toggleClass (http://api.jquery.com/toggleclass/) function to toggle the class when you click your button, it'll disabled this class fa-toggle-off and activate this class fa-toggle-on on click
(https://api.jquery.com/click/) and vice versa.
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#btn").click(function() {
$("#change").toggleClass("fa-toggle-off fa-toggle-on");
});
});
.fa-toggle-off {
background-color: #F00;
}
.fa-toggle-on {
background-color: #0F0;
}
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<button class="btn btn-default" id="btn" name="btn">
Button <i id="change" class="fa fa-toggle-off">AAA</i>
</button>
Beware, in your code you're checking if #change is clicked, the button got #btn ID attribute.
Wish I helped you.
You can use .toggleClass to add or remove class alternatively
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#btn").click(function() {
$("#change").toggleClass("fa-toggle-on");
});
});
.fa-toggle-off {
color: red;
}
.fa-toggle-on {
color: blue;
}
.btn-default {
display: block;
width: 200px;
height: 50px;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<button class="btn btn-default" id="btn" name="btn"><i id="change" class="fa fa-toggle-off">Hello my button</i></button>
You can check if on/off class exist and then can remove existing class & add new class as below code:
$(function() {
$('#btn').click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
var display = true,
image = 'details_close.png';
if ($('.td1:visible').length == $('.td1').length) {
display = false;
image = 'details_open.png';
}
$('.td1').toggle(display);
if ($("#change").hasClass("fa-toggle-off"))
{
$('#change').removeClass("fa-toggle-off").addClass("fa-toggle-on");
} else {
$('#change').removeClass("fa-toggle-on").addClass("fa-toggle-off");
});
});
});
Hope it helps you.

How can I handle events in datalist options in vuejs?

I have a requirement where I have to suggest in the data list and when a user selects any of the datalist options, I have to update other input fields accordingly.
Here is my input field and Datalist code.
<input type="text" v-model="party.name" class="form-control form-control-sm shadow-sm" #input="searchPartyByName()" placeholder="Party name" list="queriedParties"/>
<datalist id="queriedParties">
<option v-for="party in queriedParties">{{party.name}}</option>
</datalist>
Now, what I want is, When a user hits enter or click on specific data list option, I want to update my this input field (Which is by default with data list) but I also want to set other form fields.
I have bound other form fields with my party data object. So, Only if I can update my party data object by any event on datalist option, I will be happy! I want something like this.
<option v-for="party in queriedParties" #click="setParty(party)">{{party.name}}</option>
I already tried the above-given example but it's not working. I also tried with #change but it's not working too!
Is there any way to accomplish this? I checked almost all the articles, jsfiddles and codepens available but none of them solves my issue.
datalist doesn't have events but the input does. You should do the following:
<template>
<input type="text" v-model="party.name" .... />
<datalist id="queriedParties">
<option v-for="party in queriedParties">{{party.name}}</option>
</datalist>
</template>
<script>
export default {
watch: {
party: {
deep: true,
handler (old_party, new_party) {
if (old_party.name !== new_party.name) this.searchPartyByName(new_party.name)
}
}
}
</script>
It seems that your queriedParties is an array of objects. Does it work if you have just an array of strings?
For objects use something along these lines:
<template>
<div class="sourceselection">
<div>
<div class="jumbotron">
<h2><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-list-alt"></span> News List</h2>
<h4>Select News Source</h4>
<input v-model="source" list="newssources-list" v-on:input="sourceChanged"
name="source-selection" id="source-selection" class="form-control"
placeholder="Please specify news source ..."/>
<datalist id="newssources-list">
<option v-for="source in sources" v-bind:value="source.name" v-bind:label="source.name"></option>
</datalist>
<div v-if="deepSource">
<h6>{{deepSource.description}}</h6>
<a v-bind:href="deepSource.url" class="btn btn-primary" target="_blank">Go To {{deepSource.name}} Website</a>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</template>
<script>
export default {
name: 'sourceselection',
data () {
return {
sources: [],
source: '',
deepSource: ''
}
},
methods: {
sourceChanged: function(e) {
console.log("source = "+this.source+" new value = "+e.target.value);
var newSource = e.target.value;
// only action if value is different from current deepSource
if (newSource!= this.deepSource.name) {
for (var i=0; i<this.sources.length; i++) {
if (this.sources[i].name == newSource) {
this.deepSource = this.sources[i];
this.source = this.deepSource.name;
}
}
this.$emit('sourceChanged', this.deepSource.id);
}
}
},
created: function () {
var api = "https://newsapi.org/v1/sources?language=en";
this.axios.get(api).then((response) => {
this.sources = response.data.sources;
});
}
}
</script>
<!-- Add "scoped" attribute to limit CSS to this component only -->
<style scoped>
</style>
There is no event in datalist, so you can't handle, you'd better write your own list. Here is a example open in codepen:
//pug
#app
.form-group.has-feedback
input.input-search.form-control(type='text', v-model='word', placeholder='Search')
ul#list(v-if='Object.keys(filtered_projects).length > 0')
li(v-for='(value, key) in filtered_projects', #click='gotoProjectPage(key)')
span {{value}}
p {{key}}
span.glyphicon.glyphicon-search.form-control-feedback
/*css*/
body {
margin: 10px;
}
#app {
width: 400px;
}
#list {
font-size: 12px;
list-style: none;
margin: 0;
padding: 5px 0;
background-color: white;
border-radius: 0 0 5px 5px;
border: 1px #ccc solid;
}
#list li {
display: block;
padding: 5px 15px;
}
#list li:hover {
background-color: #ccc;
}
#list li span {
font-weight: 550;
}
#list li p {
margin: 5px 0 0;
}
//js
var app = new Vue({
el: '#app',
data: {
word: '',
projects: {"DataCenterMetro":"TEST1","IFF_Handway":"国际香料","SPH_Handway":"上药控股广东有限公司空调系统","QingTang_GZ":"广州地铁_清塘站","BTE_Handway":"白天鹅宾馆","NSSC_SZ":"深圳地铁_南山书城站","TA0301_Handway":"天安云谷二期"}
},
computed: {
filtered_projects: function () {
var vm = this, result = {};
if (vm.word) {
for(var key in vm.projects) {
if(key.toLowerCase().indexOf(vm.word) != -1 || vm.projects[key].toLowerCase().indexOf(vm.word) != -1)
result[key] = vm.projects[key];
}
}
return result;
}
},
created: function () {
var vm = this;
//TODO get projects
},
methods: {
gotoProjectPage: function (key) {
console.log('/map_login?project=' + key);
//TODO handle

I have followed how to remove an item from a list with a click event in ReactJS? and it seems to be working, with a few issues.
First, the example references <a href data-..., but this did not work and redirected me to file:///Users/cchilders/tutorials/javascript/react/todo-list/true, where it got true from something it evaluated (true should be the index.html)
Deletion works using href="", but it flashes the page in an ugly manner, and the usual suspects to make an href do nothing don't work...
...if I try href="#" or href="javascript:;" and similar I get
embedded:60 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'preventDefault' of undefined
Second, I am getting warning
react.js:20478 Warning: bind(): React component methods may only be bound to the component instance. See TodoList
no matter what, for each thing I try.
Third, it is deleting all items in the list on remove, not just 1 item.
How can I make React do this deletion onclick without refreshing the page, and delete 1 item at a time?
There are few things that u need to change, check the jsfiddle for working example, do the changes in ur code accordingly.
*Don't write like this: {this.props.entries.map(createTask.bind(this))}
instead of that just call a method {this.createTask()} from render, that function will return the complete list, n define createTask outside of the render method. like this:
createTask: function(){
return this.props.entries.map(item=>{
return (
<li key={item.key}>
<span>{item.text}</span>
<a href="#" data-id="{item.id}"
className="remove-filter"
onClick={()=>this.props.remove(item)}
>
remove
</a>
</li>
)})
},
*U forgot to give the dead link to href, don't leave it empty define it like this: href="#".
*Don't bind the props remove method with onClick, use it like normal method calling, like this: onClick={()=>this.props.remove(item)}.
Check jsfiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/79eax14s/
Let me know if u need any help in this.

This file is temporary, i know the contents wont do anything.
The function navBar works perfectly, however when trying to apply the same method to another class and div it seems to fail.
Whenever i click on the projectbutton class it redirects to error.html. For some reason the javascript is not seeing/handling the class on click and the href being an unsupported type redirects me to error.html. However i'm not sure what is wrong with my code.
welcome;
In your HTML code, <a href="projectnew" class="projectbutton"> you have an href for your a element, if you click on this, it will go to the page "www.yourdomain.com/projectnew" since this page does not exist, you will be redirected to your error page...
To solve this problem, you should use preventDefault, in order to prevent your link element to operate things that you do not want.
$('a.projectbutton').click(function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
var page = $(this).attr('href');
$('#content').fadeOut(400);
setTimeout(function(){$('#content').load('views/' + page + '.html')}, 400);
$('#content').fadeIn(400);
return false;
});
I did not try it out, but it should work.
Read more about preventDefault: https://api.jquery.com/event.preventdefault/
OR;
Since the main problem is your href attributes in your a elements, try to remove them;
Home
Use title as your specifier in your JS;
$('a.projectbutton').click(function() {
var page = $(this).attr('title'); //changed this into title.
$('#content').fadeOut(400);
setTimeout(function(){$('#content').load('views/' + page + '.html')}, 400);
$('#content').fadeIn(400);
return false;
});
