React JS is not changing state after event inside FileReader - javascript

I've been trying to assign as a state the contents of a .txt file uploaded locally via an input tag. I used File Reader, however although the content of the files is printed, the state is not changed according to React dev tools.
Here's the code:

The function handleFile is being called here:

setState is a method, so to use it you should type something like:
this.setState({key:value})
but it wouldn't work, couse "this" in your code is link to fileReader - and you need React. Try to use arrow function to throw correct "this":
fileReader.onloadend = (e)=> {
var content = e.target.result
console.log(content)
this.setState({
text: content
})
}

try this.setState({ text: content }) without the =
also use arrow function because this is not recognized in regular functions

Adding an Event Listener for Uploading a File that 'Fires' every time

I am trying to upload an excel file to my react app. I am using an event listener but it is only "picking up" the data the first time I upload a file. For example, I start my local server and then upload a file, test1.xlsx this works correctly. I then upload a second file, test2.xlsx. This also works. However, now if I try to upload either test1.xslx or test2.xlsx. Nothing will appear in the console. My code is as follows:

How to get bytes from input type file with jquery [duplicate]

I tried to open file with

The browser does not allow opening a local file this way, probably for security reasons. I want to use the file's data in the client side. How can I read local file in JavaScript?

The HTML5 fileReader facility does allow you to process local files, but these MUST be selected by the user, you cannot go rooting about the users disk looking for files.
I currently use this with development versions of Chrome (6.x). I don't know what other browsers support it.

To open file in browser with Java Script window.open() , the file should be available on WEB server.
By creating Virtual Directory on your IIS that mapped to any physical drive you should be able to open files.
The virtual directory will have some http: address.
So instead of window.open("file:///D:/Hello.txt");
You will write window.open("http://iis-server/MY_VIRTUAL_DRIVE_D/Hello.txt");
The xmlhttp request method is not valid for the files on local disk because the browser security does not allow us to do so.But we can override the browser security by creating a shortcut->right click->properties In target "... browser location path.exe" append --allow-file-access-from-files.This is tested on chrome,however care should be taken that all browser windows should be closed and the code should be run from the browser opened via this shortcut.

Unable to declare variable within callback in Rails App

I'm currently working on a Rails 6 application using trubolinks. I'm working on a function to reaplace an avatar placeholder with the image selected upon upload. However, something weird is happening I'm declaring two variables, one is stated with a value the over does not.

At first I thought that it was because of turbolinks so I add "turbolinks:load", but this didn't change anything. When I check for avatarPreview I get back back in the debugger but when I check img I get undefined. if I run avatarPreview.children[1].setAttribute("src", e.target.result); I also get it returned but if I assigned it to img is not working.
Why I cant declare a variable inside the callback? I want to understand dont care much about getting it to work.
You are calling setAttribute to assign e.target.result to the src attribute of the element. Then, you are assigning the return value from that function (which is always undefined) to img.
Try instead:
let img = e.target.result
If you really want to get the value from the children, you can try
let img = avatarPreview.children[1].getAttribute('src')`
