Hiding elements in iFrames - javascript

Below is my attempt of trying to hide my jumbotron class in the iframe with Javascript. I've had no luck!
The error in my console is:
Cannot read property 'style' of undefined
I can't understand why it's not working - sorry if I'm being stupid here, really not the best at Javascript. Any help would be appreciated.
var iframe = document.getElementById("myFrame");
var elmnt = iframe.contentWindow.document.getElementsByClassName("jumbotron")[0];
elmnt.style.display = "none";

How to fix "Cannot read property 'addEventListener' of null"

I'm learning how to make an autocomplete search bar from a video tutorial. I did everything the video did to no avail. I think the problem is with add.EventListener. When I run the code in Chrome, in console it shows:
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'addEventListener' of null
Code:
searchInput.addEventListener('keyup', function() {
const input = searchInput.value;
suggestionsPanel.innerHTML = '';
const suggestions = movies.filter(function(movie) {
return movie.name.toUpperCase().startsWith(input);
});
suggestions.forEach(function(suggested){
const div = document.createElement('div');
div.innerHTML = suggested;
suggestionsPanel.appendChild(div);
});
if (input=== ''){
suggestionsPanel='';
} })
This is the the JavaScript code and below is the HTML code to see any mistakes.

I have no idea, where your bug comes from, but look on my function, seems to be ok.
let searchInput = document.querySelector('.search-input');
let suggestionsPanel = document.querySelector('.suggestions')
searchInput.addEventListener('keyup', function() {
const input = searchInput.value;
suggestionsPanel.innerHTML = input;
});

How do I change a ng-src on another img with ng-click?

*I updated the plunkr and the code to better represent my localhost version. The Angularjs version was not the problem despite fixing the previous plunkr. *
First, let me say I am really struggling with Angularjs but I'm determined to learn it. I'm a designer, not a brick-layer (forgive the Star Trek reference).
I'm building a prototype where clicking on a small thumbnail to the left loads a larger version to the right. I'm using ng-click on the image to pass the unique "current" ID. Clicking doesn't affect the large image ng-src. I tried various permutations and don't see what I could be doing wrong.
*New info: I am using ng-repeat to iterate through a list of images. I try to pass each image url through ng-click but that seems to be where it gets lost. *
http://plnkr.co/edit/vYiykI7dfMKd34ZmS13N?p=preview
The app/controller:
<script>
var app = angular.module('pageApp', []);
app.controller('imgCtrl', function($scope) {
$scope.current = '7078/7250439172_72562c8e45_k';
});
</script>
The html wth thumbnail and large image:
<div class="container">
<div class="row" ng-app="pageApp" ng-controller="imgCtrl">
<div class="col-xs-3">
<ul class="list-group sm-img">
<li class="list-group-item text-center" ng-repeat="n in ['7078/7250439172_72562c8e45_k', '7087/7250440014_a32980508e_k', '7225/7250440766_8db45aa277_h']">
<img class="img-responsive" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/{{n}}.jpg" ng-click="current='{{n}}'" /><span>{{current}}</span>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="col-xs-9">
<img class="img-responsive" ng-src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/{{ current }}.jpg" />
</div>
</div>
</div>
Try to create function in controller an execute it from ng-click
$scope.changeImg = function (c) {
$scope.current=c;
}
Your problem quite funny: you are loading Angular2 version however using Angular1.x syntax and code. Load correct library version, for example 1.4.8, and everything will start working properly:
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/angular.js/1.4.8/angular.js"></script>
Demo: http://plnkr.co/edit/0efkCT9wwEaWfK0nR6su?p=info
It is working now. http://plnkr.co/edit/nmqDqcmtyTq479wZWsuR?p=preview
you are using angular 2 which has much more different than angular 1 (1.4)

Javascript not working when changing div location in the HTML

I have used this method to make a slider popping up when clicking on a button:
http://www.learningjquery.com/2009/02/slide-elements-in-different-directions/
I have made my own button for it + some other changes. However — i have struggled for 2 days now, trying to figure out how to be able to move my button out of the div it was in the original script.
Because; when i move it out of the original div, tat looks like this:
<div id="slidebottom" class="slide">
It simply stops working.
At first i thought it had something to do with the fact that the ID that started the slider animation, was defined as '(this')
So i ran a 'test' to figure out the ID that 'this' was and replaced it with that.
But still; nothing happens when i move it into another div.
I can move it out of all divs just below the 'body' tag — and there it will work as well.
Here is the html-part
<div id="slidebottom" class="slide">
<img src="xxx.jpg">
</div>
And here is the javascript:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
document.getElementById("hotelmenu")
$('#hotels').click(function() {
/*alert(this.id);*/
$('#hotels').next().slideToggle();
});
});
</script>
I am a rookie when it comes to javascript, so please forgive me if this is dumb question.
Just to sum up; i just want to be able to move my button somewhere else than this one particular div.
I hope I get it in total, so...
Your slider is based on next(), which means: starting at $("#hotels"), the function is binding the sliding functionality to the element directly after $("#hotels") - literally the next element, and ONLY the next element.
If the element you want to toggle is moved to another position in your HTML, the function will stop working, because it strictly refers to a position in the HTML, not to a designated element (like it would be done by a query selector).
Maybe you could post your whole HTML?
And thank you for answering.

Correct usage of .innerHTML

Trying to add content into individual div-containers I stumbled on the command .innerHTML, which I tried to implement accordingly. Strangely I get the following error:
*Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'innerHTML' of null *
I'm running the code over my local Apache server if that makes any difference.

<div id="content"></div>
<div id="right"></div>
<div class="clr"></div>
</div>
</body>
</html>
javascript.js
var navidiv = document.getElementById('left');
navidiv.innerHTML += "FirstElement";
Put it in window.onload
window.onload = function()
var navidiv = document.getElementById('left');
navidiv.innerHTML += "FirstElement";
}
The element has to be present in the DOM, before you can access it in JS
You have to ensure that your DOM elements have loaded before accessing them with javascript.
Since you are using jquery, your javascript can simply be
$(function() {
var $navidiv = $('#left');
$navidiv.html($navidiv.html() + 'FirstElement');
});
try this
html
<div id="header">
<h1>Startseite</h1>
</div>
<div id="container">
<div id="left">
Navigation
</div>
<div id="content"></div>
<div id="right"></div>
<div class="clr"></div>
</div>
javascript.js
$( document ).ready(function() {
var navdiv=$("#left").html();
$("#left").html(navdiv+"FirstElement");
});

Canvas is a HTML5 element which IE8 doesn't supports.
Your doctype is also wrong since you're using HTML5 set it to: "".
As said in the comments: IE8 won't support the canvas tag. However there are some plugins that mimic it's behavior. I've used this one once: http://flashcanvas.net/ and it does the job, there's another called http://code.google.com/p/explorercanvas/. but i have no comment on that one, never used, don't know what to expect.
Just one note: the fallbacks will have their limitations, but as far as 2D drawing concerns, I think these will work out for you
