I am working on a Hugo Static Site Generator theme, the problem is that the Javascript features don't load unless I reload the page
e.g
Before reloading the page
After reloading the page
This is the code, I used in adding the new class
$(document).ready(function() {
$('h2').addClass('hello')
});
Now, the problem is that since it is a static site generator when opening a new page, it will not refresh/reload the site, but load the page like a cached page. therefore most of the javascript features only apply once unless the page is reloaded. The problem is also experienced when I am using VueJs on the theme, Which means, I need to find a way to force load a new URL, instead of it loading like an anchor link.
UPDATE: I have been able to resolve it, The problem was from another javascript file, making an ajax get request
Thanks
Did you debug or add console.log inside your ready function to see it can reach there? I am suspecting that your h2 is rendered by js and at the time your code to add class hello that h2 is not rendered yet.
If this is the case I think you need to render html at server first or you can include your script in the same place as your components

I'm experiencing some issues regarding an AJAX script I'm working on.
The page loads perfectly well, and all needed scripts are loaded the same for basic page functionality inside AJAX script, but after hash change, jQuery behaves awkwardly.
Let's take this example.
The custom jQuery script writes an inline CSS propriety for a specific DIV at page loading:
Now, I load the login page for example:
I get back to the main page and inline style disappears as well as the basic loaded functionalities cease to exist after Ajax call:
*
Any experience on this? Does anyone have a clue why this happens? Or even near it... Seems the script unloads on page/hash change, which I don't believe. Or enters in double loop, therefore doubling the classes for HTML. I don't get it.
Already searched a lot and went trough the coding and is fine becasue it works fine alongside with basic HTML. Would appreciate some thoughts on this matter.
Thanks!
Ultimate goal is to cycle through photos on a blog page. Seems like 'document.getElementById().src' would be a good approach.
Problem: To make sure the javascript code is successfully linking to the blog page, I tried testing with this in my script.js file:
document.getElementById('testID').innerHTML = "Running test";
and this in my .html file:
<div id="testID"></div>
But, the text "Running Test" does not show up on the blog page. However, when running this same exact test in my index.html page, it does work. Both .html files load the same script file along with jQuery. I don't understand why it works in one html file and not the other.
NEW FINDING:
This line of code now works on the blog page when I remove it from inside
$(document).ready(function(){ ... });
Why would that be?
The Javascript in the current page can only access HTML elements that are in pages that are currently loaded into the browser.
More specifically, document.getElementById() ONLY searches the current web page's document for matching elements. It does not search any other pages and certainly does not search other files on your server that are not loaded into the browser. "current web page" means the HTML loaded from the current URL in the browser bar.
When a web page is no longer visible in the browser window (e.g it's been replaced by some other page), it is gone and no longer reachable by any Javascript. In some specific cases, you can access document loaded into other tabs or other frames (subject to same-origin security rules and requires a different method of access).
In addition, no changes to a web page are persistent in the browser. As soon as a web page is no longer loaded into an active browser window, it is gone and reloading it again will load the original, unmodified version of that document.
If you want the same code from one page to run in another page, then you must include that same code in the other page. You can want, you can share a reference to the code by putting the code into its own page and then using a <script src="xxx.js"> tag in each page to cause the same code to get loaded into each page.
If interpret Question correctly, try using .load()
$("#container").load("/blog/blog_1.html #testID")
I have an android app where I want to show a page to users inside the webview but the problem I am facing is that I can't use the web page as it is because the page is not responsive to mobile devices and user needs to scroll horizontally and vertically a lot. The web page is:
http://www.ielts.org/test_centre_search/search_results.aspx
I just need the drop down search functionality from that page. I tried copying the html source code on my local to replicate the page but the since the html form's action has to be http://www.ielts.org/test_centre_search/search_results.aspx for fetching the results, when I select an option on my local version, it goes to the http://www.ielts.org/test_centre_search/search_results.aspx url and displays their version of page next time.
I came across this page:
http://www.ieltsessentials.com/test_centre_search.aspx
which is implementing the same functionality. How can I replicate the same and add it inside local .html document
i think the easiest way to implement this will be to inject your own css style into their html, and hide/restyle the elements that are not responsive. that way you don't have to analyze any of the logic that they have, as it will be safely on css level.
the only thing you have to figure out is how to re-inject your css into the web view after the page is reloaded. there's actually a way to do that by simply injecting a javascript call into their page like here https://stackoverflow.com/a/5010864/467198
to detect that page is reloaded i think you can use onPageFinished
you could use asp to proxy the page you want to canibalize and then in jQuery you could traverse that proxy'ed page and pull out the pieces you want to use and then create your new, responsive doc from items scraped from the original page.
i'm not an asp.net developer so i've used php in my example. here's a link to an example of how asp.net could be used to proxy a page
Simplest Possible ASP .NET AJAX Proxy Page
<?php echo file_get_contents( $_GET['u'] );
then in jQuery use $.ajax() to read the proxy'ed page as HTML and scrape the page as needed
<script>
$(function(){
$.ajax({
url:'proxy.php?u=http://www.ielts.org/test_centre_search/search_results.aspx',
dataType:'html',
success:function(data){
console.log($('#header',data));
}
})
});
</script>
in this example i'm just reading the contents of the #head but you could scrape whatever you need from the original page and then inserting them into your target dom or pass them to a template. to get what you're looking for you'd use '#Template_TestCentreSearch1_SearchTable' where i use '#head' to retrieve your drop down markup
I have tried to implement this kind of script (Page Transition): here
Everything is going fine as demo provided. But only 1 problem that I cant figure out is:
I have 2 HTML files which is index.html & index2.html. On index.html I put the link with the page transition effect after clicked it goes to index2.html which is on index2.html I was put in some alert script using body on-load method.
Supposedly in normal practice, the alert will appear as normal we seen for debuging. But it doesn't appear anything. Seem like it doesn't load any script after page transition done.
Can somebody give me a clue to solve this? What I have tried is using :
location.reload(); window.location.reload(); etc.. till I don't have idea to fix this :(
*location.reload() works on desktop browser but doesn't work on mobile. My priority target browser is on mobile version.
Please help & Many Thanks
for demo purpose and needs help : here
It wasn't executed because the page never really loaded. The way that page transition script worked is by loading the content of the target page via ajax, replacing the entire content of the page with it.
From the page you provided, it seems like the script accepts a callback function to be called when the page finishes loading, you can put your 'loaded' script there. But keep in mind, what is being executed is the script on that first page.
I don't know what you are trying to make, but I guess it would be better for you to look into a proper single page app with URL matching. There are frameworks like Backbone.js that can help you with this.
I am working on a very complex web site which is wizard based and have many JavaScript files included.
Now problem is if I pass through many step and at some later stage I find a JavaScript problem, as I fix it I have to load the page again and as I load the page again the Wizard will be started from step one again.
What I want is if I make JavaScript change in a file, there should be a possibility to refresh the JavaScript file through Firebug or something like it.
Thanks a lot.
No, not really. You could try to change the <script>'s src attribute to something like /your/script.js?timestamp=1234567890, but this doesn't give a reliable guarantee that the script will be loaded again.
You could add another script element into the DOM, but then you'd have two very similar scripts loaded at the same time, which may be problematic.
