I have a Vue component for a sidebar with a template defined as:
Vue.component('navigation',{
template:`
<ul class="nav">
<li v-if="checkIfUserIsAdmin() == true" id="adminMenu"></li>
<li id="userMenu"></li>
`,
methods: {
checkIfUserIsAdmin() {
var result = false;
axiosInstance.get("/Profile/GetUserInfo").then(userInfo => {
result = userInfo.data.u.isAdmin;
})
.catch(userError => {
swal({
title: "Operational Platform",
text: "Unable to retrieve user info"
});
result = false;
});
return result;
}
}
});
Some code was removed for brevity.
When I visit the /Profile/GetUserInfo I get a JSON in return that's properly returning me true but the adminMenu is not displaying and I'm wondering why. It seems that the v-if is the place that I've messed up. I've tried also changing the adminMenu to have v-if="checkIfUserIsAdmin() == 'true'" but it still didn't work.
You need to wait for the method's result.
First you need to run the checkIfUserIsAdmin method when the component is mounted.
In checkIfUserIsAdmin method you need to store the result of the query in adminMenuDisplay variable and then you can watch this variable in v-if.
Vue.component('navigation',{
template:`
<ul class="nav">
<li v-if="adminMenuDisplay" id="adminMenu"></li>
<li id="userMenu"></li>
`,
data() {
return {
adminMenuDisplay: false
};
}
methods: {
checkIfUserIsAdmin() {
var result = false;
axiosInstance.get("/Profile/GetUserInfo").then(userInfo => {
this.adminMenuDisplay = userInfo.data.u.isAdmin;
})
.catch(userError => {
swal({
title: "Operational Platform",
text: "Unable to retrieve user info"
});
this.adminMenuDisplay = false;
});
}
},
mounted() {
this.checkIfUserIsAdmin();
}
});

but i can't show the comments with v-for and i don't understand why my comment data is not working.
I know there is an error but I can't find it.
My request returns a data , but i can't display it my loop.
Thanks for your help

.dispatch("getArticleComments",comment)

});
},

Your action getArticleComments does not return anything and I would avoid changing the action to return data. Instead remove the assignment to this.comments in home.vue
Actions do not return data, they get data, and call mutations that update your store.
Your store should have a getter that exposes the state, in this case the dataComments.
getters: {
dataComments (state) {
return state.dataComments;
}
}
Then in your home.vue you can use the helper mapGetters
computed: {
...mapGetters([
'dataComments'
])
}
You want your views to reference your getters in your store, then when any action updates them, they can be reactive.
More here: https://vuex.vuejs.org/guide/getters.html
As far as I see, you don't return any data in your getArticleComments action. To receive the comments you should return them, or even better, get them from your store data directly.
First make sure that you pass the response data to your mutation method:
getArticleComments: ({ commit }, dataArticles) => {
return new Promise(() => {
instance.get(`/comment/${dataArticles.article_id}`)
.then(function (res) {
commit('getComments', res.data);
})
.catch(function (error) {
console.log(error)
})
})
},
After dispatching you could either return the response data directly or you could access your store state directly. Best practice would be working with getters, which you should check in the vue docs.
getArticleComments(comment) {
this.$store
.dispatch("getArticleComments",comment)
.then((res) => {
// in your case there is no res, because you do not return anything
this.comments =
this.$store.state.dataComments;
});
},
How do you guys get the text inside a p tag and store it in a variable in VueJS?
Because right now, it just displays it in a p tag but I want the text inside the p tag to be stored in a variable for later use.
Below is my html code
<b-form-input v-model="search" placeholder="Search by disease"></b-form-input>
<select v-model="selected">
<option v-for="result in filteredPeople(search)" :key="result.LONG_D" :value="{ id: result.LONG_D, text: result.ICD_C }">{{ result.LONG_D }}</option>
</select>
<p>
Value: {{selected.id}}
</p>
<b-button class="btn" variant="success" v-on:click="runAPI(search)">Search</b-button>
And this one is my JS code.
export default {
data() {
return {
results: {},
search: "",
msg: null,
selected: ""
};
},
methods: {
runAPI: function(disease) {
axios
.get("http://localhost:9000/api/disease/" + disease)
.then(response => (this.results = response.data))
.catch(error => console.log(error));
console.log(this.results);
},
filteredPeople() {
if (this.searchQuery) {
return this.results.filter(item => {
return item.LONG_D.startsWith(this.searchQuery);
});
} else {
return this.results;
}
}
}
One way would be to put a function in the tag that takes the value (it could also of course return the value so the display wouldn't change). The function could then store the value in a data or local variable and you would have it.
like so:
{{getSelectedId(selected.id)}}
anything inside {{}} is JS so you can have functions and even use logic (although not so recommended to put too much logic in template).
You can do like this .
JS CODE
export default {
data() {
return {
results: {},
search: "",
msg: null,
selected: ""
};
},
methods: {
runAPI: function(disease) {
axios
.get("http://localhost:9000/api/disease/" + disease)
.then(response => (this.results = this.filteredPeople()))
.catch(error => console.log(error));
console.log(this.results);
},
filteredPeople() {
if (this.searchQuery) {
return this.results.filter(item => {
return item.LONG_D.startsWith(this.searchQuery);
});
} else {
return this.results;
}
HTML CODE
<select v-model="selected">
<option
v-for="result in results"
:key="result.LONG_D"
:value="{{ id: result.LONG_D, text: result.ICD_C }}">{{ result.LONG_D }}</option>
</select>
I have created a settings page where users can update their email addresses. Everything worked fine but suddenly the validation is not updating anymore. Only the first change of the input field triggers validateState().
Any further changes will not trigger this function so the status of that field stays as it is.
I have compared the code with other components that use the same code and they still work fine.
I am using bootstrap-vue components for the form.
<template>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
<b-form #submit="onSubmit">
<b-form-group :label="$t('general.email')"
label-for="settingsEmail"
:invalid-feedback="errors.first('email')">
<b-form-input id="settingsEmail"
type="text"
v-model="form.email"
:disabled="saving"
name="email"
:state="validateState('email')"
v-validate="{required: true, email: true}">
</b-form-input>
</b-form-group>
<b-button type="submit" variant="primary" :disabled="saving || !hasChanged() || errors.any()"><i class="fa fa-refresh fa-spin fa-fw" v-if="saving"></i> {{$t('general.save')}}</b-button>
</b-form>
</div>
</div>
</template>
<script>
import {UPDATE_USER} from '../config/actions'
export default {
name: 'settingsAccount',
data() {
return {
form: {},
saving: false
}
},
computed: {
user: function() {
return this.$store.getters.getUser;
}
},
created() {
this.init();
},
methods: {
init() {
this.form.email = this.user.email;
},
hasChanged() {
if(this.form.email !== this.user.email) {
return true;
}
return false;
},
onSubmit(event) {
event.preventDefault();
this.saving = true;
this.$validator.validateAll().then((result) => {
if (result) {
let data = {};
if(this.form.email !== this.user.email) {
data.email = this.form.email;
}
this.$store.dispatch(UPDATE_USER, data).then(() => {
this.saving = false;
this.$validator.reset();
}).catch(() => {
this.saving = false;
});
} else {
this.saving = false;
}
});
},
validateState(ref) {
if (this.veeFields[ref] && (this.veeFields[ref].dirty || this.veeFields[ref].validated)) {
return !this.errors.has(ref)
}
return null
},
}
}
</script>
The problem you're having is that the form data element is an empty object, so it will only trigger reactivity when the whole object changes. Either you need to change your data to be this:
data() {
return {
form: {email:''},
saving: false
}
},
Or in your init function, explicitly add the email property as reactive:
methods: {
init() {
this.$set(form,'email',this.user.email)
},
//...
If you're not clear on why, you can read the details here: https://v2.vuejs.org/v2/guide/reactivity.html
A working example (minus vuex) here: https://codesandbox.io/s/x4kp93w3o
PS, when writing questions about vue, it's very helpful to boil it down to a simpler example. Get rid of vuex, remove your translation stuff. Sometimes the answer will jump out at you once you have it as simple as possible.
I'm building a key-command resource and giving VueJS a whirl while doing so. I'm a newbie but am gaining the grasp of things (slowly...).
I want to be able to search in a global search form for key commands I'm defining as actions within sections of commands (see data example below). I would like to search through all the actions to show only those that match the search criteria.
My HTML is below:
<div id="commands">
<input v-model="searchQuery" />
<div class="commands-section" v-for="item in sectionsSearched"
:key="item.id">
<h3>{{ item.section }}</h3>
<div class="commands-row" v-for="command in item.command" :key="command.action">
{{ command.action }}
</div>
</div>
</div>
My main Vue instance looks like this:
import Vue from 'vue/dist/vue.esm'
import { commands } from './data.js'
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', () => {
const element = document.getElementById("commands")
if (element != null) {
const app = new Vue({
el: element,
data: {
searchQuery: '',
commands: commands
},
computed: {
sectionsSearched() {
var self = this;
return this.commands.filter((c) => {
return c.command.filter((item) => {
console.log(item.action)
return item.action.indexOf(self.searchQuery) > -1;
});
});
},
}
});
}
});
And finally the data structure in data.js
const commands = [
{
section: "first section",
command: [
{ action: '1' },
{ action: '2' },
{ action: '3' },
],
},
{
section: "second section",
command: [
{ action: 'A' },
{ action: 'B' },
{ action: 'C' },
]
},
]
export { commands };
I'm able to output the commands using the console.log(item.action) snippet you see in the computed method called sectionsSearched.
I see no errors in the browser and the data renders correctly.
I cannot however filter by searching in real-time. I'm nearly positive it's a combination of my data structure + the computed method. Can anyone shed some insight as to what I'm doing wrong here?
I'd ideally like to keep the data as is because it's important to be sectioned off.
I'm a Rails guy who is new to this stuff so any and all feedback is welcome.
Thanks!
EDIT
I've tried the proposed solutions below but keep getting undefined in any query I pass. The functionality seems to work in most cases for something like this:
sectionsSearched() {
return this.commands.filter((c) => {
return c.command.filter((item) => {
return item.action.indexOf(this.searchQuery) > -1;
}).length > 0;
});
},
But alas nothing actually comes back. I'm scratching my head hard.
There is a issue in your sectionsSearched as it is returning the array of just commands.
See this one
sectionsSearched() {
return this.commands.reduce((r, e) => {
const command = e.command.filter(item => item.action.indexOf(this.searchQuery) > -1);
const section = e.section;
r.push({
section,
command
});
}, []);
}
const commands = [
{
section: "first section",
command: [
{ action: '1' },
{ action: '2' },
{ action: '3' },
],
},
{
section: "second section",
command: [
{ action: 'A' },
{ action: 'B' },
{ action: 'C' },
]
},
]
const element = document.getElementById("commands")
if (element != null) {
const app = new Vue({
el: element,
data: {
searchQuery: '',
commands: commands
},
computed: {
sectionsSearched() {
var self = this;
return this.commands.filter((c) => {
// the code below return an array, not a boolean
// make this.commands.filter() not work
// return c.command.filter((item) => {
// return item.action.indexOf(self.searchQuery) > -1;
// });
// to find whether there has command action equal to searchQuery
return c.command.find(item => item.action === self.searchQuery);
});
},
}
});
}
<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/vue/dist/vue.js"></script>
<div id="commands">
<input v-model="searchQuery" />
<div class="commands-section" v-for="item in sectionsSearched"
:key="item.id">
<h3>{{ item.section }}</h3>
<div class="commands-row" v-for="command in item.command" :key="command.action">
{{ command.action }}
</div>
</div>
</div>
Is that work as you wish ?
sectionsSearched() {
return this.commands.filter((c) => {
return c.command.filter((item) => {
return item.action.indexOf(this.searchQuery) > -1;
}).length > 0;
});
},
}
since filter will always return an array(empty or not) which value always is true.
I'm new to Vue and I'm stuck at the moment. For the practice I'm making an app for episode checklist for series. The first part of the app searches series and add one of them to a database. Result for the search gives me a result like this: https://i.stack.imgur.com/QuOfc.png
Heres my code with template and script:
<template>
<div class="series">
<ul>
<li v-for="item in series" :key="item.id">
<img :src="image_url+item.poster_path"/>
<div class="info">
{{item.name}}
<br/>
<h5>{{item.id}}</h5>
Start Date: {{item.first_air_date}}
<br/>
{{getEpisodeNumber(item.id)}}
<br/>
{{getSeasonNumber(item.id)}}
</div>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
</template>
<script>
export default {
name: "series",
props: ["series"],
data() {
return {
image_url: "https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/w500",
api_key: {-api key-},
episode_url: "https://api.themoviedb.org/3/tv/",
}
},
methods: {
async getEpisodeNumber(showID) {
const json = await fetch(this.episode_url + showID + this.api_key)
.then((res) => { return res.json() })
.then((res) => { return res.number_of_episodes })
return await json
},
async getSeasonNumber(showID) {
const json = await fetch(this.episode_url + showID + this.api_key)
.then((res) => { return res.json() })
.then((res) => { return res.number_of_seasons })
return await json;
}
},
}
</script>
Methods should return to me a number but they return an object, probably promise object. But when I try to console.log the data in the methods they print a value(int). I need reach this value but I'm stuck. I tried to sort of thinks but it fails every time.
I just create a new component called show and pass item.id to this component. In show component, I use another fetch() to get show data again and now it works like I want.
