In view I received model of type HistorySearch. Then I want to resend this model to controller using ajax:
$("#exportCsv").click(function () {
// get model as json
var searchData = '#Html.Raw(Json.Encode(#Model))';
searchData = JSON.stringify({ 'search': searchData });
$.ajax({
//contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
url: '#Url.Action("ExportToCsv", "BankCosts")',
type: 'POST',
data: searchData,
dataType: 'json',
error: function (xhr) {
alert('Error: ' + xhr.statusText);
},
async: true,
});
});
As you can see I had to comment contentType because for some reason with this passed model is set to null in controller.
Also, my controller is coded like this:
[HttpPost]
public void ExportToCsv(HistorySearch search)
{
// search properties are not filled. They are set to default value
}
The thing is binding is not working correctly. Received search properties are set to default values. Whats wrong there?
The JSON.stringify({ 'search': searchData }) will transform your object to string, so then will pass to your ActionResult a string instead of an object.
Remove the JSON.stringify and on ajax call change:
$.ajax({url: '...', ..., data: { searchData }, ...

This is my api code that return successfull json data while using get method
public Question[] Get() {
getQuestion obj = new AllDataAccess.getQuestion();
return obj.questionList().ToArray();
}
This is my post method data that accept the value and save in database
public void Post([FromBody] string question) {
SaveQuestion obj = new AllDataAccess.controller.SaveQuestion();
obj.savaData(question);
}
This is the method that call my api
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
url: 'http://localhost:53893/api/values',
data: "{'question':'" + $("#submit").value + "'}",
dataType: 'json',
async: false,
success: function(data, status) {
console.log(status);
},
error: function(err) {
console.log(err);
}
});
Now the problem is when i post the data with one textbox value its give me a message in console that "nocontent" and record save in data base with null value
It seems that your ajax url is wrong. You should specify the action name (post). Also, use JSON.stringify to retrieve proper json from javascript object.
var postData = { question:$("#submit").val() };
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
url: 'http://localhost:53893/api/values/post',
data: JSON.stringify(postData),
dataType: 'json',
success: function (data,status) {
console.log(status);
},
error: function (err) {
console.log(err);
}
});
In the server side, you should create a model class for Post method;
public class PostInput
{
public string Question { get; set; }
}
And then Post method looks like;
[HttpPost]
public void Post([FromBody]PostInput input)
{
SaveQuestion obj = new AllDataAccess.controller.SaveQuestion();
obj.savaData(question);
}
If you want to use FromBody, you can do so.
JavaScript
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
//default content-type, could be omitted
contentType: 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8',
url: 'http://localhost:53893/api/values/post',
data: {'': $("#submit").val()}
});
API action
[HttpPost]
public void Post([FromBody]string question)
{
SaveQuestion obj = new AllDataAccess.controller.SaveQuestion();
obj.savaData(question);
}
You had these issues.
Wrong content-type for your ajax call.
Data was not posted correctly.
val() should be used instead of .value.
API action should be decorated with [HttpPost].
Data doesn't passing to controller, always null
My script in view:
function deleteRecords() {
var selected = [];
$('#myTable input:checked').each(function () {
selected.push($(this).attr('id'));
});
$.ajax({
url: '/Home/DeleteRecords',
type: 'POST',
dataType: 'json',
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
data: { "json": JSON.stringify(selected) },
error: function () {
alert("Error!");
}
});
}
My home controller method:
[HttpPost]
public IActionResult DeleteRecords(string AllId)
{
return null;
}
send ajax request data like below,
$.ajax({
url: '/Home/DeleteRecords',
type: 'POST',
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
data: JSON.stringify(selected),
error: function () {
alert("Error!");
}
});
and receive the data in action like
[HttpPost]
public IActionResult DeleteRecords(string[] AllId)
{
return null;
}
It need to pass the action. Hope it helps to you.
with the code in your question, try below to get the json
System.Web.Context.Current.Request.Form["json"]
if you want some more graceful stuff, you need to put FromBody attribute in your parameter signature
DeleteResults([FromBody] string json)
Name your property in the Post the same as your method so that the automatic binding picks it up. - Turns out this doesn't matter for single object.
The data Object you were creating was not parse-able by .net, use JSON.stringify directly for the data payload.
Note: The change in Home controller since you are passing an array of string.
function deleteRecords() {
var selected = [];
$('#myTable input:checked').each(function () {
selected.push($(this).attr('id'));
});
$.ajax({
url: '/Home/DeleteRecords',
type: 'POST',
dataType: 'json',
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
data: JSON.stringify(selected),
error: function () {
alert("Error!");
}
});
}
For your home controller method:
[HttpPost]
public IActionResult DeleteRecords(string[] AllId)
{
return null;
}
i am writing a function in jquery which post the data to controller. currently it is posting form data to controller fine but when i post checkbox list with form data then it send always count 0 in controller here is my code.
function SubmitForm() {
var studentFormData = $("#frmStudent").serialize();
debugger;
var SubjectArraydata = new Array();
$(".chkSubject:checked").each(function () {
var row = {
"SubjectId": $(this).data("id")
};
SubjectArraydata.push(row);
});
$.ajax({
url: '#Url.Action("StudentForm", "Student")',
type: "POST",
dataType: "json",
data: studentFormData + JSON.stringify("&subjectData=" + SubjectArraydata),
async: true,
success: function (msg) {
},
error: function () {
}
});
}
Controller:
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult StudentForm(Student student, List<Subject> subjectData)
{
return Json(true);
}
any one tell me where is the problem in my code thank you.
Your cannot mix 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded' data (the contentType of your serialize() method) and 'application/json' data (the contentType of the JSON.stringify() method) like that.
Sinve you have confirmed that your only submitting one property of Subject, which is SubjectId and is typeof int, then you can append the SubjectId values to the serialized data.
var studentFormData = $("#frmStudent").serialize();
$(".chkSubject:checked").each(function () {
studentFormData += '&' + $.param({ SubjectIds: $(this).data("id") });
};
$.ajax({
url: '#Url.Action("StudentForm", "Student")',
type: "POST",
dataType: "json",
data: studentFormData,
success: function (msg) {
},
error: function () {
}
});
and change your controller method to
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult StudentForm(Student student, List<int> SubjectIds)
{
....
I think you use 'POST' method not correctly. You try to mix sending data as json and as url parameters.
data: studentFormData + JSON.stringify("&subjectData=" + SubjectArraydata),
what you send in data:
[
{...},
[{SubjectId: ''}, {SubjectId: ''}]
]
or:
{
1: {...},
subjectData: [{SubjectId: ''}, {SubjectId: ''}]
}
or some data sended as json, some in url?
Send all data in json, and dont serialize (jquery do it for you):
var data = [strudentFormData, subjectData];
$.ajax(..., data: data, ...);
I have this Ajax function:
UpdateFIConfig: function ($appForm) {
var valid = $appForm.valid();
//if not valid the validate plugin will take care of the errors
if (valid) {
$appForm.serialize();
$.ajax({
url: '/IdentifiConfig/DefaultConfiguration/UpdateFIConfig',
data: $appForm,
dataType: 'application/json',
cache: false,
type: 'POST',
success: function (data) {
if (data.Error) {
cc.jqUtils.openDialog(data.ErrorDescription, 'Error', 'OK', null, null, null);
} else {
window.location.href = '/IdentifiConfig/DefaultConfiguration';
}
}
});
}
},
Which serializes data sent from my view into a query string. I know the data is serialized correctly because I have viewed the string with console.log($appForm), and it's correct.
However, my controller never receives the query string. I have removed a lot of code, but this is basically what the controller function looks like:
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult UpdateFIConfig(string query)
{
NameValueCollection nvc = HttpUtility.ParseQueryString(query);
System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(nvc);
}
I receive a null pointer on the line which tries to parse the query string, and I don't know why. Any help?
i have the same thing ajax in my project the only different is i don't use dataType
but contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8"
data: "{'query' : '" + $appForm + "'}"
This bit:
$appForm.serialize();
Returns a string that you're never using. serialize won't actually modify the form. You should assign it to a variable and pass that up instead:
var data = $appForm.serialize();
$.ajax({
url: '/IdentifiConfig/DefaultConfiguration/UpdateFIConfig',
data: data,
/* etc */
});
There is probably a better way, but I get around this annoyance by accepting an Object with a string property instead of just a string. So do something like:
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult UpdateFIConfig(MyTypeWithQry query)
{ ...
and
$.ajax({ url: '/IdentifiConfig/DefaultConfiguration/UpdateFIConfig',
data: { 'query' : $appForm },
dataType: 'application/json',
...
I have a simple controller function like this:
<HttpPost>
Function SaveXML(payload As String) As Boolean
If payload IsNot Nothing AndAlso payload.Length > 0 Then
Return True
Else
Return False
End If
End Function
Which I'm calling from JavaScript like this:
function SaveXML() {
var payload = '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><data>XML_GOES_HERE</data>';
// Calls controller correctly but data is null
$.ajax({
url: "/Data/SaveXML/",
type: "POST",
processData: false,
contentType: "text/xml",
data: payload
})
.done(function () { alert('Application saved.'); })
.fail(function () { alert('Application failed to save.'); });
}
I'm using the example on the JQuery documentation as a base with some advice from here, here, and here. I've tried it with and without processData: false and it makes no difference.
When the call comes in to the Controller method the payload is null. If I post a simple string using some very similar code everything works fine. What precisely needs to be done in order to post XML to a Controller via $.ajax? Is it at the JavaScript or Controller end that the problem lies?
I eventually managed to find some hints on this and ended up with the following code:
$.ajax({
url: "/Data/SaveXML/",
type: "POST",
processData: false,
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
data: JSON.stringify({ payload: payload })
})
.done(function () { alert('Application saved.'); })
.fail(function () { alert('Application failed to save.'); });
The crucial differences are that the contentType is set to application/json, the data is turned into an object which is then run through the JSON.stringify method to make sure that the various characters that are unsuitable for a querystring can be sent without failing.
The default model binding doesn't work with processData set to false. If ServerXml is a string of XML, removing this should make it work:
function SendXmlToServer(ServerXml) {
$.ajax({ url: "/Home/XmlData",
type: "POST",
data: { ResXml: ServerXml }, dataType: "xml",
success: function () {
alert("Successful");
return false;
}
});
}
You'll also have to add the ValidateInput attribute to your action method, because normally "HTML markup" isn't allowed:
[HttpPost]
[ValidateInput(false)]
public ActionResult XmlData(string ResXml)
{
return null;
}
Alternatively, you could use custom model binding to seamlessly deserialize the XML, as explained in this blog post url https://lostechies.com/jimmybogard/2011/06/24/model-binding-xml-in-asp-net-mvc-3/.
I believe you may need to name the parameter you are passing to the controller.
So, something like...
var data = '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><data>XML_GOES_HERE</data>';
$.ajax({
url: "/Data/SaveXML/",
type: "POST",
processData: false,
contentType: "text/xml",
data: { payload: data }
})
