JS fires twice confirm-box onchange MVC - javascript

I have a problem, on the Telerik dropdownlist i have a function onchange selection. This function save a value with ajax call if an item from list is selected. If selection is not OK will show a confirm box, if the user press OK will be redirected on another page. If press Cancel need to populate a field with empty string.
The problem is: if the user press CANCEL button, the confirm-box fires twice...I tried to put return false after $('#Assessment').val(''); but does not work..
Any solutions please?
DropDownlist:
#(Html.Kendo().DropDownListFor(m => m)
.Name("Assessment").HtmlAttributes(new { #style = "text-align:center", onchange = "saveAssessment()" })
.OptionLabel("Select an assessment")
.DataTextField("DisplayName")
.DataValueField("Value")
.Value("DisplayName")
JS Function
function saveAssessment() {
var assessmentId = $('#Assessment').val();
var grid = $('#_gridProjectCheckList').data('kendoGrid');
var selectedItem = grid.dataItem(grid.select());
var ciId = selectedItem.Id;
var ciText = $("#Assessment").data("kendoDropDownList").text();
if (assessmentId !== null && (ciText === 'Ok' || ciText === 'NotApplicable')) {
$.ajaxSetup({ cache: false });
$.ajax({
url: 'UpdateProjectCheckItemAssessment',
type: "POST",
data: { assessmentId: assessmentId, id: ciId },
success: function (response) {
$('#Assessment').val(response.assessmentVal);
$('#_gridProjectCheckList').data('kendoGrid').dataSource.read();
}
});
}
else {
var msgRedir = confirm("You will be redirected to Assessment Page");
if (msgRedir) {
window.location.href = 'UpdateProjectCheckItem' + '/' + selectedItem.Id;
}
$('#Assessment').val('');
}
}

Confirming Retweet

I'm making a script that when a user clicks a button a popup box displays with a text box of the tweet and a button for the user to retweet what's in the text box. In the script it's suppose to tell the user if it has retweeted successfully. The thing is that it tells the user it's successfully retweeted before the user has clicked the retweet button in the pop up box.
Seems as though just by clicking the button that activates the pop up box display is when the code activates a successful retweet message though nothing has been retweeted on the users end.
I'm not very familiar with javascript, my guess it's not the php code that's making the faulty logic but the javascript code. Here is what I have below.
(function($) {
$(document).ready(function() {
$.getScript("http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js", function(){
twttr.events.bind('tweet', function(event) {
var targetUrl = event.target.src;
var query = getQueryParams(targetUrl);
click_callback(query.url);
});
});
});
})(jQuery);
function getQueryParams(qs) {
qs = qs.split("+").join(" ");
var params = {}, tokens,
re = /[?&]?([^=]+)=([^&]*)/g;
while (tokens = re.exec(qs)) {
params[decodeURIComponent(tokens[1])]
= decodeURIComponent(tokens[2]);
}
return params;
}
function click_callback(id){
var user = "<? echo $data->id;?>";
document.getElementById("Hint").style.display='block';
$("#Hint").html('Confirming Tweet...');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "plugins/rt/complete.php",
data: "id="+ id + "&user=" + user,
success: function(msg){
$("#Hint").html('Tweeted! Success!');
removeElement('boxes', id);
}
});
}
function removeElement(parentDiv, childDiv){
if (document.getElementById(childDiv)) {
var child = document.getElementById(childDiv);
var parent = document.getElementById(parentDiv);
parent.removeChild(child);
}
}
I think this is what's causing it within the code:
function click_callback(id){
var user = "<? echo $data->id;?>";
document.getElementById("Hint").style.display='block';
$("#Hint").html('Confirming Tweet...');
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "plugins/rt/complete.php",
data: "id="+ id + "&user=" + user,
success: function(msg){
$("#Hint").html('Tweeted! Success!');
removeElement('boxes', id);
}
});
}

div.load() causing full page postback

After saving form data, need to load the div only not whole page refresh but it first goes to Main Page Action Controller and then the DIV Load Partial Action Controller. I am unable to find the reason why it is posting whole page.
I have added the preventDefault() command too.
$("#btnSave").click(function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
var url = "#Url.Action("Save", "Note")";
var id = "1";
var model = {
modelfields.....
};
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
data: JSON.stringify(model),
url: url,
contentType: "application/json",
success: function (data) {
if (data == "True") {
// Load div
var settings = { editUrl: '#Url.Action("Get", "Note", new { ID = "-1" })' };
settings.editUrl = settings.editUrl.replace("-1", id);
$("#divNoteDetails").load(settings.editUrl);
}
else if (data == "False") {
alert('not saved');
}
},
error: function () {
alert('error');
}
});
return false;
});
if your button is inside a form then its default type is submit. see the spec for details
try adding type="button" to the button, or event.preventDefault() on an event handler attached to the form itself.

Jquery onchange Ajax

i made a function that sends data (ajax) to the database and depending on the response from the server i need to alert a message but it seems like whenvever i change the select option i get the alert message for each change(if i change the select four times when i click i get the alert four times ) , but if i remove my ajax function and replace it simply by an alert i get it once not repeating itself here is my JS
$('.select_ids').change(function () {
var id = $(this).val();
var form = $('#form_widget_ids_' + id);
var container = form.parent('.ewb_forms');
var box = container.parent('.edit_widget_box');
container.children('.selected').fadeOut(300, function () {
$(this).removeClass('selected');
form.fadeIn(300, function () {
$(this).addClass('selected');
});
});
Widget.updateSSOUrl(box);
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: window.location + "",
data: {'id': id}
}).done(function (msg) {
$(".red").on('click', function (evt) {
if ('done' == msg) {
evt.preventDefault();
alert('NOP');
}
})
});
});
the event that you are binding i think is wrong. For newly append items is better in your case to use
$(document).on('click', ".red", function (evt) {
})
And it must be moved outside the ajax success because now you are triggering it every time
----- Edited ---
If you want just to alert the output of the ajax you dont need the onClick event
$('.select_ids').change(function () {
var id = $(this).val();
var form = $('#form_widget_ids_' + id);
var container = form.parent('.ewb_forms');
var box = container.parent('.edit_widget_box');
container.children('.selected').fadeOut(300, function () {
$(this).removeClass('selected');
form.fadeIn(300, function () {
$(this).addClass('selected');
});
});
Widget.updateSSOUrl(box);
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: window.location + "",
data: {'id': id}
}).done(function (msg) {
if (msg === 'done') {
evt.preventDefault();
alert('NOP');
}
});
});
If you want to show the latest result on a button click you can store the msg on a global variable and on click of a div show that like
var globalMsg = "";
$('.select_ids').change(function () {
var id = $(this).val();
var form = $('#form_widget_ids_' + id);
var container = form.parent('.ewb_forms');
var box = container.parent('.edit_widget_box');
container.children('.selected').fadeOut(300, function () {
$(this).removeClass('selected');
form.fadeIn(300, function () {
$(this).addClass('selected');
});
});
Widget.updateSSOUrl(box);
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: window.location + "",
data: {'id': id}
}).done(function (msg) {
globalMsg = msg
});
});
$(".div").click(function() { alert(globalMSG); });

How to call Beginform submit methode before JS submit button click event in mvc?

I have one form submit method in controller using BeginForm() method but in this same method I also have click event on submit button which is in _Layout.cshtml page. Currently, first click event is fired then BeginForm() method is called.
So, how to first call BeginForm() method before submit button click event?
Submit button click event: (_Layout.cshtml)
$("#SaveData").click(function (b) {
debugger
var list = new Array();
var postData;
$('input.chkevent').each(function () {
debugger
if (this.checked == true) {
var parent_id = this.parentElement;
var par2 = parent_id.previousElementSibling;
var par3 = par2.previousElementSibling;
var child = par3.childNodes[0];
var child_val = child.defaultValue;
var arr_date = this.parentElement.nextElementSibling.childNodes[0].value;
var dep_date = this.parentElement.nextElementSibling.nextElementSibling.childNodes[0].value;
var id = new Array(); ;
id.push(child_val, arr_date, dep_date);
list.push(id);
postData = { values: list};
}
});
$.ajax({
url: '#Url.Action("FormData", "HomeSurface")',
//jQuery.ajaxSettings.traditional = true
// url: "CheckEvent/PersonEvent?id=" + allVals,
data: postData,
type: "POST",
traditional: true,
// dataType: "json",
// traditional: true,
success: function () {
}
});
});
Submit_Form (Index.cshtml):
#using (Html.BeginUmbracoForm<HomeSurfaceController>("FormData"))
{
<fieldset>
</fieldset>
}
In controller:
public ActionResult FormData(PERSON_MASTER person, string[] values)
{
}

MVC Html.ActionLink parameter values not being passed

I'm testing MVC for a demo and I managed to scrap together some pieces but now I am having trouble with an Html.ActionLink. The intent is to present the user with a series of dropdownlists that they must select before the ActionLink is shown. To do that I've copied some JQuery to hide/show my dropdownlists (as selections are made) and the ActionLink. I added an alert to my JQuery to check my values and via the alert it all looks good. But if I debug the controller the parm values are defaulted to 0. I'm not sure what code to include but I will try to include the relevant parts. I think it's something basic.
Here are the dropdown lists and ActionLink.
#Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.selected_env_ID, new SelectList(Model.Environments, "env_ID", "env_DESC"), "*Select an environment")
#Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.selected_app_ID, new SelectList(Model.Applications, "app_ID", "app_DESC"), "*Select an application",new { #hidden = "hidden" })
#Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.selected_job_ID, Enumerable.Empty<SelectListItem>(), "*Select a job", new { #hidden = "hidden" })
#Html.ActionLink("Submit", "Submit", new { id = Model.selected_job_ID, envid = Model.selected_env_ID }, new {id = "lnkSubmit" })
Here is the convoluted JQuery to hide/show and fill the cascading dropdowns.
<script>
$(document).ready(function ()
{
//Dropdownlist Selectedchange event
$("#selected_app_ID").change(function () {
var id = $('#selected_app_ID').val(); // id value
if (id == 0) {
$('#selected_job_ID').hide();
} else {
$('#selected_job_ID').show();
$("#selected_job_ID").empty();
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: '#Url.Action("SelectJobs")',
dataType: 'json',
data: { id: $("#selected_app_ID").val() },
success: function (jobs) {
// jobs contains the JSON formatted list of jobs passed from the controller
$("#selected_job_ID").append('<option value=0>*Select a job</option>');
$.each(jobs, function (i, job) {
$("#selected_job_ID").append('<option value="'
+ job.job_ID + '">'
+ job.job_DESC + '</option>');
});
},
error: function (ex) {
alert('Failed to retrieve jobs.' + ex);
}
});
}
return false;
});
//ddl select change
$("#selected_env_ID").change(function () {
var name = $('#selected_env_ID option:selected').text(); //Item1
var id = $('#selected_env_ID').val(); // id value
if (id == 0) {
$('#divSubmit').hide();
$('#selected_app_ID').hide();
$('#selected_job_ID').hide();
} else {
$('#selected_app_ID').show();
}
});
//ddl select change
$("#selected_job_ID").change(function () {
var name = $('#selected_job_ID option:selected').text(); //Item1
var id = $('#selected_job_ID').val(); // id value
var envid = $('#selected_env_ID').val(); // id value
if (id == 0) {
$('#divSubmit').hide();
} else {
$('#divSubmit').show();
alert("envid=" + envid + " jobid=" + id);
}
});
}); // end document ready
</script>
My controller has this and id and envid end up being 0:
public ActionResult Submit(int id = 0,int envid = 0) {
If I need to include something else just let me know.
Here is the method that fills the job dropdown list. This works without issues. It's the Html.ActionLink call to Submit that fails to include the parameters.
public JsonResult SelectJobs(int id)
{
db.Configuration.ProxyCreationEnabled = false;
IEnumerable<t_job> jobs = db.t_job.Where(j => j.app_ID == id).ToList();
return Json(jobs);
}
Your link
#Html.ActionLink("Submit", "Submit", new { id = Model.selected_job_ID, envid = Model.selected_env_ID }, new {id = "lnkSubmit" })
is rendered on the server side before you make any selection in the dropdowns. If the initial values of selected_job_ID and selected_env_ID are zero or null, then those values will be passed to the controller (have a look at the rendered html).
If you want to pass the values selected in you drop downs, you could either modify the links href attribute in the drop down change events, or create a button instead of a link, and do a redirect in the buttons click event based on the dropdown values.
You need to use JSON.stringify():
data: JSON.stringify({ id: $("#selected_app_ID").val() }),
