keep failing to send values to PHP with Ajax - javascript

code lovers!
i want to send a value of input box to PHP and check the value on the PHP file. when the page is loaded. but i keep failing no matter what i try in various ways.
basically i want to send the value of this input box to PHP.
Current Counte : <input type="text" name="currentCount" id="currentCount" value="6">
<span> result </span>
and these are what i have tried so far but nothing really worked.
<script>
$( document ).ready(function() {
var currentCount = $("#currentCount").val();
console.log(currentCount);
$.post("counteSever.php", {currentCount2: currentCount},
function(result){
$("span").html(result);
});
});
</script>
Second One
<script>
$( document ).ready(function() {
var currentCount = $("#currentCount").val();
console.log(currentCount);
$.ajax({
url: 'counteSever.php',
type: 'POST',
data: {"currentCount2": currentCount},
dataType: 'JSON',
})
.done(function() {
console.log(currentCount + " Done");
})
.fail(function() {
console.log("error");
})
.always(function() {
console.log("complete");
});
});
</script>
and Third one
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'counteSever.php',
data : { "currentCount2" : currentCount},
dataType: 'JSON',
success: function(response){
$('span').text(name);
alert(response.data);
}
});
and my simple PHP file to check if the value is sent or not.
<?php
$current = $_POST['currentCount2'];
echo $current;
?>
Seriously don't know what's the problem, i don't have any problem to check the value on client-side, but it doesn't seem to send the value to PHP cos i keep having "Undefined index: currentCount2 " error.
if i don't have any problem with the ajax function? Thanks!

As i understood your question you want to send the value of input field to PHP file and receive it back and display in <span> tag.
So here are few minor changes you need to make. see my example below.
IN AJAX SUCCESS FUNCTION ,you can use these 3 ways to bind result to the <span> tag
1)$('span').text(response);
2)$('span').append(response);
3) $('span').html(response);
You will know the difference between them when to use those in these example
This is HTML file
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.2.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
Current Counte : <input type="text" name="currentCount" id="currentCount" value="6">
<br>
<span> result </span>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
var currentCount = $("#currentCount").val();
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'counteSever.php',
dataType:'json',
data : {currentCount2 : currentCount},
success: function(response){
console.log(response);
$('span').append(response);
}
});
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
This is php File counteSever.php
<?php
$current = $_POST['currentCount2'];
echo $current;
?>
And here is the result image :

#james, Put the ajax code in bottom of your html file. You r using document.ready(). It will work:)

Ajax not able to post javascript variable to php

I want to post values of a JavaScript variable to a PHP page, and then use those values there.
I get back a new HTML page, which I did not want to happen. Also, it is showing the error message produced by:
echo"some error";
What am I missing? I don't understand why this happens?
Here is my html file try.html
<html>
<head>
<title>try</title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<a id="button" href="try.php" target="_blank">send data</a>
<script>
var sum2= 2010;
$('#button').click(function() {
var val1=sum2;
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'try.php',
data: { text: val1 },
dataType: 'script' // I am not sure about what I write here script,json,html?
});
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
And this is my PHP file try.php
<?php
if(isset($_POST['text']))
{
$text = $_POST['text'];
echo $text;
}
else {
echo"some error";
}
?>
In try.php if you echo something which in turn will comeback to try.html.
If you just want to post the data to try.php and echo there the just use form and submit. You dont need ajax in that.
Ajax is to send the data/receive back without reloading the existing page. The response will be seen in the current page itself.
<html>
<head>
<title>try</title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<a id="button" href="try.php">send data</a>
<script>
var sum2= 2010;
$('#button').click(function() {
var val1=sum2;
var json_params = {
text: val1
};
var json_data = JSON.stringify(json_params);
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'try.php',
data: json_data,
dataType: "html",
success: function(response)
{
alert(response);
}
});
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
In the try.php page you can place this code
<?php
if (isset($_POST)){
$data = json_decode(file_get_contents('php://input'));
print_r($data);
}
else{
echo "not set";
}
?>
Firstly, remove script from data-type.
This is how you can pass the data to php file:
$('#button').click(function() {
var val1=sum2;
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'try.php',
data: { text: val1 },
});
});
dataType - The type of data that you're expecting back from the
server. Here you don't want anything in return then it's fine. If you
are expecting anything like json or something, you can specify it.
If You want anything in response, you can handle in this manner
$('#button').click(function() {
var val1=sum2;
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'try.php',
data: { text: val1 },
});
success: function (data) {
//Your success handler code
},
});
success - A callback function to be executed when Ajax request
succeeds.
Firstly remove href from link. By this it is directly redirecting to try.php
<a id="button" href="javascript:void(0);" target="_blank">send data</a>

How to add variable from PHP into a form using a button with jQuery?

I have these two codes that I want to combine into one, so when I click the genbtn it will add the response from the PHP file into the 'wallet' form like the function below adds the text 'bitcoin wallet after click' to it.
Instead of displaying it in an alert box like it does now, the variable in the PHP file that I want to display is $public if that helps.
I've been sitting fiddling with the code for 3 hours now with no luck.
You can check how it works now on for better understanding.
<script>
$(function () {
$('#genbtn').one('click', function () {
var text = $('#wallet');
text.val(text.val() + ' bitcoin wallet after click');
});
});
</script>
and:
<script>
$.ajax({
url: 'addygen.php',
success: function (response) {
alert(response);
}
});
</script>
html:
<input type="text" id="wallet" maxlength="34" pattern="^[13][a-km-zA-HJ-NP-Z1-9]{25,34}$"
placeholder="Your Bitcoin wallet's address"></input>
So, here where we are:
When I used the following code with a local phpPage.php, it works fine
When I put the url: 'http://www.ubit.ca/addygen.php' the developer tool showed me the following error:
the connexion used to get resources not encrypted
So I think that he problem is whith your permission to acces to the http://www.ubit.ca/addygen.php file.
$.ajax({
url: 'http://www.ubit.ca/addygen.php',
ifModified: true,
dataType: 'text',
success: function(data){
$("#wallet")
},
error:function(){
alert("error");
}
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<input type="text" id="wallet" maxlength="34" pattern="^[13][a-km-zA-HJ-NP-Z1-9]{25,34}$" placeholder="Your Bitcoin wallet's address"/>
here's a code snippet of the solution:
<script>
$(function() {
$('#genbtn').one('click', function() {
$.ajax({
url: 'addygen.php',
success: function(response) {
var text = $('#wallet');
text.val(response);
}
});
});
});
</script>

ajax submit form why it cannot echo $_POST

I'm test using ajax submit form (submit to myself page "new1.php")
The thing that I want is, after click submit button, it will echo firstname and lastname. But I don't know why I do not see the firstname and lastname after submit.
here is new1.php page
<?php
echo $_POST['firstname']."<br>";
echo $_POST['lastname']."<br>";
?>
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<title>Document</title>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<form id="myform" action="new1.php" method="post">
Firstname : <input type="text" name="firstname"> <br>
Lastname : <input type="text" name="lastname"> <br>
<input type="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
<script>
// this is the id of the form
$("#myform").submit(function(e) {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: 'new1.php',
data: $("#myform").serialize(), // serializes the form's elements.
success: function(data)
{
alert('yeah'); // show response from the php script.
}
});
e.preventDefault(); // avoid to execute the actual submit of the form.
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
In your case the best option to retrieve values as JSON format using json_encode in your PHP code and then accessing these values through data object.
Example:
PHP code:
if($_POST)
{
$result['firstname'] = $_POST['firstname'];
$result['lastname'] = $_POST['lastname'];
echo json_encode($result);
die(); // Use die here to stop processing the code further
}
JS code:
$("#myform").submit(function (e) {
$.ajax({
type : "POST",
url : 'new1.php',
dataType : 'json', // Notice json here
data : $("#myform").serialize(), // serializes the form's elements.
success : function (data) {
alert('yeah'); // show response from the php script.
// make changed here
$('input[name="firstname"]').text(data.firstname);
$('input[name="lastname"]').text(data.lastname);
}
});
e.preventDefault(); // avoid to execute the actual submit of the form.
});
When you use form as a serialize you have to retrieve like this.
Edit your ajax like this :
data: { formData: $("#myform").serialize()},
Then you can retrieve like this in your controller:
parse_str($_POST['formData'], $var);
echo "<pre>";
print_r($var);
exit;
Make some changes in javascript here:
success: function(data)
{
$('#response').html(data); // show response from the php script.
}
And in html code make a div with id response
<div id="response"></div>
Change from
alert('yeah'); // show response from the php script.
to
alert(data); // show response from the php script.
the value firstname, lastname will not display because you called the new1.php via ajax and the data (firstname, lastname and the page code) is returned to java script variable (data) you need to inject the data to your document
Try this
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: 'new1.php',
data: $("#myform").serialize(), // serializes the form's elements.
success: function(data) {
document.documentElement.innerHTML = data;
}
});

Jquery Ajax is not working with Codeigniter

I am a ajax beginner, Here I am trying to show a text box value in same page using Ajax.
My Controller code:
<?php
class Merchant extends CI_Controller
{
public function ajaxtest()
{
$this->load->helper('url');
$this->load->view('ajaxtest');
$fullname = $this->input->post("fullname");
echo $fullname;
}
}
?>
Here is my view code:
<head>
<script src="<?php echo base_url();?>assets/js/jquery-latest.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#getinfo").click(function()
{
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "<?php echo base_url(); ?>merchant/ajaxtest",
data: {textbox: $("#fullname").val()},
dataType: "text",
cache:false,
success:
function(data){
$('#mytext').html(data);
}
});
return false;
});
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<form method="post">
<input type="text" id="fullname"/>
<input type="button" value="getinfo" id="getinfo"/>
<span id="mytext"></span>
</form>
</body>
When I click on the button getinfo, I want to show the text inside the text box as span text. But now it shows nothing..
Updated:
After experts' opinion, I edited some text(see my edit note), Now When i click on the button, it shows again a textbox and a button.. !!
Did you set the base_url variable with a link on the Javascript?
Because your post url contains this variable and you need set this to make it work. So initialize the variable with the base_url link.
See the corrected example below . Set your domain instead of the yourbaseurl.com
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
var base_url='http://yourbaseurl.com/index.php/';
$("#getinfo").click(function()
{
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: base_url + "merchant/ajaxtest",
data: {textbox: $("#fullname").val()},
dataType: "text",
cache:false,
success:
function(data){
$('#mytext').html(data);
}
});
return false;
});
});
</script>
Your base_url variable seems to be undefined in your JavaScript.
One simple approach to get the base URL is to echo it out in a hidden input, and then grab the value of that input in your JS code:
HTML
<input type='hidden' id="baseUrl" value="<?php echo base_url(); ?>" />
JS
var base_url = $('#baseUrl').val();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: base_url + "/merchant/ajaxtest",
data: {textbox: $("#fullname").val()},
dataType: "text",
// ...
you are passing in textbox as parameter from your ajax to controller and trying to get POST data with name fullname. That wont work, since you passed in the name of parameter as textbox, access that in your post, as :
class Merchant extends CI_Controller
{
public function ajaxtest()
{
$this->load->helper('url');
//you dont need to load view so comment it
//$this->load->view('ajaxtest');
$fullname = $this->input->post("textbox"); //not fullname
echo $fullname;
}
}
js
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
var base_url='http://yourbaseurl.com/index.php/';
$("#getinfo").click(function() {
var fullname = $("#fullname").val();
alert("Fullname:" + fullname); //do you get this alert
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: base_url + "merchant/ajaxtest",
data: {textbox: fullname},
cache:false,
success:function(data){
alert("Response:" + data); //do you get this alert
$('#mytext').html(data);
}
});
return false;
});
});
</script>
Try using this:
<base href="<?=base_url();?>">
<script src="assets/js/jquery-latest.min.js"></script>
And this in ajaxtest:
$this->load->helper('url');
And also Comment out this:
// $this->load->view('ajaxtest');
Might be a little late with this response - but someone might find this while searching for a solution.
I was having the same issues with Codeigniter and JQuery ajax/post response. I could not get this to work no matter what I tried.
In the end, it turned out to be php_error that was causing the problem. Once I removed it, everything worked fine with my post/response.

Post variables to php file and load result on same page with ajax

I have tried searching quite a bit but can't seem to make anything work.
I am trying to make a form that sends info to a PHP file and displays the output of the PHP file on the same page.
What I have so far:
HTML:
<html>
<form id="form">
<input id="info" type="text" />
<input id="submit" type="submit" value="Check" />
</form>
<div id="result"></div>
</html>
JS:
<script type="text/javascript">
var info= $('#info').val();
var dataString = "info="+info;
$('#submit').click(function (){
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/api.php",
data: dataString,
success: function(res) {
$('#result').html(res);
}
});
});
</script>
PHP:
<?php
$url = '/api.php?&info='.$_POST['info'];
$reply = file_get_contents($url);
echo $reply;
?>
When I set the form action to api.php, I get the result I am looking for. Basically what I want is to see the same thing in the "result" div as I would see when the api.php is loaded.
I cannot get any solutions to work.
Your click event is not stopping the actual transaction of the page request to the server. To do so, simply add "return false;" to the end of your click function:
$('#submit').click(function (){
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/api.php",
data: dataString,
success: function(res) {
$('#result').html(res);
}
});
return false;
});
Additionally, you should update the type="submit" from the submit button to type="button" or (but not both) change .click( to .submit(
Thanks everyone for your help, I have it working now.
I was doing a few things wrong:
I was using single quotes in my php file for the URL and also for the $_POST[''] variables.
I needed to add return false; as Steve pointed out.
I did not have a "name" for the input elements, only an ID.
I think Your code evaluate dataString before it is filled with anything. Try to put this into function of $.ajax. The code below.
/* ... */
$('#submit').click(function (){
$.ajax({
var info= $('#info').val();
var dataString = "info="+info;
/* ... */
