CSS: How to add smooth shift to div width upon text change? - javascript

If anyone can phrase this question better than I can, please advise and I will alter (or edit yourself).
Here's my current jsfiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/5v7mzadu/
My HTML:
<div class="text-cycler">
WE <div class="c-text" id="ctext-1">CARE</div>
<div class="c-text" id="ctext-2">THINK</div>
<div class="c-text" id="ctext-3">SEE</div>
<div class="c-text" id="ctext-1">KNOW</div>
</div>
My CSS:
.text-cycler {
text-align:center;
font-size:25px;
}
.c-text {
display:inline-block
}
My Javascript:
var divs = $('div[id^="ctext-"]').hide(),
i = 0;
(function cycle() {
divs.eq(i).fadeIn(400)
.delay(1000)
.fadeOut(400, cycle);
i = ++i % divs.length;
})();
As you can see the second word fades in/out,. I'd like to add a smooth transition to the div, so that the width of the div container does NOT abruptly change width size. (so that the width "snap" is more smooth)
Can anyone help?

I believe you needed the animation over the content and text alignment center.
And indeed this must solve your purpose.
I have added span{white-space: nowrap; vertical-align: text-top;} to force it to align in single line, and added jQuery animate method to animate the width of the rotating text
And here's the fiddle for you to play around
var divs = $('div[id^="ctext-"]').hide(),
i = 0;
(function cycle() {
divs.eq(i)
.animate(400, function() {
$('.x').animate({
width: $(this).innerWidth()
});
})
.fadeIn(400)
.delay(1000)
.fadeOut(400, cycle);
i = ++i % divs.length;
})();
.text-cycler {
text-align: center;
font-size: 25px;
}
span {
white-space: nowrap;
vertical-align: text-top;
}
.c-text {
display: inline-block;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="text-cycler">
<span> WE </span>
<span class="x">
<div class="c-text" id="ctext-1">CARE</div>
<div class="c-text" id="ctext-2">THINK</div>
<div class="c-text" id="ctext-3">SEE</div>
<div class="c-text" id="ctext-1">KNOW</div>
</span>
</div>

See this snippet
var divs = $('div[id^="ctext-"]').hide(),
i = 0;
(function cycle() {
divs.eq(i).fadeIn(400)
.delay(1000)
.fadeOut(400, cycle);
i = ++i % divs.length;
})();
.text-cycler {
font-size:25px;
position:fixed; /*added*/
padding-left:40% /*added*/
}
.c-text {
display:inline-block
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="text-cycler" align="center">
WE <div class="c-text" id="ctext-1">CARE</div><div class="c-text" id="ctext-2">THINK</div><div class="c-text" id="ctext-3">SEE</div><div class="c-text" id="ctext-1">KNOW</div>
</div>

JavascriptLess way.
If you want to get funky. (No seriously, this is more a funky solution than usable)
.text-cycler {
width:75%;
margin:auto;
user-select: none;
text-align:center;
font-size:5vw;
}
.text-cycler:after {
content:"";
display:inline-block;
animation: change;
animation-duration: 10s;
animation-iteration-count: infinite;
}
#keyframes change {
0% {
content: "CARE";
opacity: 0;
}
3% {
opacity: 1;
}
22% {
opacity: 1;
}
25% {
content: "CARE";
opacity: 0;
}
25.1% {
content: "THINK";
}
28% {
opacity: 1;
}
47% {
opacity: 1;
}
50% {
content: "THINK";
opacity: 0;
}
50.1% {
content: "SEE";
}
53% {

}
72% {

}
75% {

}
75.1% {

Jquery slidetoggle code to vanilla Javascript that ahndle multiple elements toggle

I have few elements I need to slide, but I don't want to attach whole jQ lib. I like jQ a lot, but whole lib is just overkill in this example.
How to convert jq slideUp/slideDown/toggle to vanilla JS with support of multiple elements passed to function?
JQ code:
var $context = getContext(context);
$($context).on('click', '.menu', function () {
$('.nav').slideToggle();
});
JS code:
var list = document.getElementsByClassName("class1", "class2", "class3");
//or
var list = document.querySelectorAll("class1", "class2", "class3");
var slideUp = function(targets, duration){
// execution
};
slideUp(list, 500);
SO wizards make it happen! :)
I wasn't happy with the last solution I gave you it was rushed and buggy totally unacceptable, Hope you can forgive me...so this is a better version with the clicks of each item working too
const clicker = document.getElementsByClassName("clicker")[0];
clicker.addEventListener("click", function() {
process(document.querySelectorAll(".js-toggle"));
});
[...document.querySelectorAll(".js-toggle")].forEach((element) =>
element.addEventListener("click", function() {
process(this)
})
)
const container = [];
function process(linkToggle) {
container.length = 0
if (linkToggle.length > 0) {
for (let i = 0; i < linkToggle.length; i++) {
container.push(
document.getElementById(linkToggle[i].dataset.container))
animate(container[i])
}
} else {
container.push(
document.getElementById(linkToggle.dataset.container))
animate(container[0])
}
}
function animate(element) {
if (!element.classList.contains("active")) {
element.classList.add("active");
element.style.height = "auto";
let height = parseInt(element.clientHeight || 0)
element.style.height = "0px";
setTimeout(function() {
for (let t = 0; t < container.length; t++) {
do {
container[t].style.height =
parseInt(container[t].style.height || height) +
1 + 'px'
} while (parseInt(container[t].style.height || height) < height);
}
}, 0);
} else {
element.style.height = "0px";
element.addEventListener(
"transitionend",
function() {
element.classList.remove("active");
}, {
once: true
}
);
}
}
.clicker {
cursor: pointer;
background: red;
}
.box {
width: 300px;
border: 1px solid #000;
margin: 10px;
cursor: pointer;
}
.toggle-container {
transition: height 0.35s ease-in-out;
overflow: hidden;
}
.toggle-container:not(.active) {
display: none;
}
<div class="clicker">CLICK ME</div>
<div class="box">
<div class="js-toggle" data-container="toggle-1">Click1</div>

I hope this helps
you could just use css like so ( wasn't sure witch way you wanted to slid but this gives you an idea of how to do it):
var $slider = document.getElementById('slider');
var $toggle = document.getElementById('toggle');
$toggle.addEventListener('click', function() {
var isOpen = $slider.classList.contains('slide-in');
$slider.setAttribute('class', isOpen ? 'slide-out' : 'slide-in');
});
#slider {
position: absolute;
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
background: blue;
transform: translateX(-100%);
-webkit-transform: translateX(-100%);
}
.slide-in {
animation: slide-in 0.5s forwards;
-webkit-animation: slide-in 0.5s forwards;
}
.slide-out {
animation: slide-out 0.5s forwards;
-webkit-animation: slide-out 0.5s forwards;
}
#keyframes slide-in {
100% {
transform: translateX(0%);
}
}
#-webkit-keyframes slide-in {
100% {
-webkit-transform: translateX(0%);
}
}
#keyframes slide-out {
0% {
transform: translateX(0%);
}
100% {
transform: translateX(-100%);
}
}
#-webkit-keyframes slide-out {
0% {
-webkit-transform: translateX(0%);
}
100% {
-webkit-transform: translateX(-100%);
}
}
<div id="slider" class="slide-in">
<ul>
<li>Lorem</li>
<li>Ipsum</li>
<li>Dolor</li>
</ul>
</div>
<button id="toggle" style="position:absolute; top: 120px;">Toggle</button>
I can't take credit for this its lifted from:
CSS 3 slide-in from left transition
I hope this helps
Could you not simply include the css in the page header so wouldn't need to edit any style sheets, well in any case then how about this:
function SlideDown() {
const element = document.getElementById("slider");
let top = 0;
const up = setInterval(MoveDown, 10);
function MoveDown() {
if (top == 50) {
clearInterval(up);
} else {
top++;
element.style.top = top + '%';
}
}
}
function SlideUp() {
const element = document.getElementById("slider");
let top = parseInt(element.style.top);
const down = setInterval(MoveUp, 10);
function MoveUp() {
if (top == -100) {
clearInterval(down);
} else {
top--;
element.style.top = top + '%';
}
}
}
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<body>
<div id="slider" style="position:absolute; top: -100px;">
<ul>
<li>Lorem</li>
<li>Ipsum</li>
<li>Dolor</li>
</ul>
</div>
<button onclick="SlideDown()">Slide Down</button>
<button onclick="SlideUp()">Slide Up</button>
</body>
</html>
I hope this helps

Sliding animation when hiding/showing a div

I have two divs, top and bottom. Both divs have dynamic height, the top div will show or hide depending on a variable.
I would like to add in a sliding animation to the top div when showing or hiding, but the bottom div should stick with the top div and slide with it too.
var hide = true;
var trigger = document.getElementById("trigger");
var topdiv = document.getElementById("topdiv");
trigger.addEventListener('click', function() {
if (hide) {
topdiv.classList.add('hide');
} else {
topdiv.classList.remove('hide');
}
hide = !hide;
});
div {
position: relative;
display: block;
width: 100%;
padding: 10px;
}
.top {
background: #999;
}
.body {
background: #555;
}
.hide {
display: none !important;
}
<div id="topdiv" class="top hide">
<p>Top</p>
</div>
<div class="body">
<p>Body</p>
<button id="trigger">
Trigger
</button>
</div>
I tried adding transform animations, but the effect is only applied to the top div while the bottom div remains unanimated.
#keyframes topDivAnimate {
from {
transform: translateY(-100%);
}
to {
transform:translateY(0%);
}
}
Help is much appreciated.
I would use CSS transition rather than animation. I've found it easiest to do by animating the lower div rather than the upper one, and changing its position so that it covers the top one (or, of course, not). See demonstration below, I've made as minimal changes as I could to the CSS and JS:
var cover = true;
var trigger = document.getElementById("trigger");
var bottomdiv = document.getElementsByClassName("body")[0];
trigger.addEventListener('click', function() {
if (cover) {
bottomdiv.classList.add('cover');
} else {
bottomdiv.classList.remove('cover');
}
cover = !cover;
});
div {
position: relative;
display: block;
width: 100%;
padding: 10px;
}
.top {
background: #999;
}
.body {
background: #555;
transform: translateY(0%);
transition: transform 0.5s;
}
.cover {
transform: translateY(-100%);
}
<div id="topdiv" class="top hide">
<p>Top</p>
</div>
<div class="body">
<p>Body</p>
<button id="trigger">
Trigger
</button>
</div>
Are you looking something like this? Then please try this:
var trigger = document.getElementById("trigger");
var topdiv = document.getElementById("topdiv");
trigger.addEventListener('click', function() {
if ($('#topdiv').css('display') == 'none') {
$(topdiv).slideDown();
} else {
$(topdiv).slideUp();
}
});
div {
position: relative;
display: block;
width: 100%;
padding: 10px;
}
.top {
display: none;
background: #999;
}
.body {
background: #555;
}
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div id="topdiv" class="top hide">
<p>Top</p>
</div>
<div class="body">
<p>Body</p>
<button id="trigger">
Trigger
</button>
</div>
Try this code and see if that's the effect you wanted. It uses the Animate.css library so you'll need to link that in your <head></head>
function animateCSS(element, animationName, callback) {
const node = document.querySelector(element)
node.classList.add('animated', animationName)
function handleAnimationEnd() {
node.classList.remove('animated', animationName)
node.removeEventListener('animationend', handleAnimationEnd)
if (typeof callback === 'function') callback()
}
node.addEventListener('animationend', handleAnimationEnd)
}
var hide = false;
var trigger = document.getElementById("trigger");
var topdiv = document.getElementById("topdiv");
trigger.addEventListener('click', function() {
if (!hide) {
topdiv.classList.remove('hide');
animateCSS('.body', 'slideInDown');
animateCSS('#topdiv', 'slideInDown');
} else {
animateCSS('#topdiv', 'slideOutUp', function() {
topdiv.classList.add('hide');
})
animateCSS('.body', 'slideOutUp');
}
hide = !hide;
});
Working Codepen demo of my solution
Here's some more explanation on how to use the Animate.css library.

JavaScript & CSS Accordion List

I have code for an accordion list using CSS and JavaScript. When I click on a heading it brings up the hidden content. How do I make this so if I click on the same heading it will hide the content again? Anything helps, cheers.
(function () {
var accordions, i;
// Make sure the browser supports what we are about to do.
if (!document.querySelectorAll || !document.body.classList) return;
// Using a function helps isolate each accordion from the others
function makeAccordion(accordion) {
var targets, currentTarget, i;
targets = accordion.querySelectorAll('.accordion > * >h1 ');
for(i = 0; i < targets.length; i++) {
targets[i].addEventListener('click', function () {
if (currentTarget)
currentTarget.classList.remove('expanded');
currentTarget = this.parentNode;
currentTarget.classList.add('expanded');
}, false);
}
accordion.classList.add('js');
}
// Find all the accordions to enable
accordions = document.querySelectorAll('.accordion');
// Array functions don't apply well to NodeLists
for(i = 0; i < accordions.length; i++) {
makeAccordion(accordions[i]);
}
})();
<style>
.accordion.js > * {
overflow: hidden;
}
.accordion.js > *:not(.expanded) > *:not(h1) {
max-height: 0;
margin-top: 0;
margin-bottom: 0;
opacity: 0;
visibility: hidden;
}
.accordion.js > .expanded > *:not(h1) {
max-height: 10em;
opacity: 1;
visibility: visible;
}
.accordion.js > * > h1 {
cursor: pointer;
visibility: visible;
}
.accordion.js > * > *:not(h1) {
transition: max-height 0.7s,
visibility 1s,
margin 1s,
opacity 1s;
}
.sections {
color:#5E5E5E;
text-align:center;
width:90%;
border-style:solid;
border-width:1px;
border-color:#D1D1D1;
padding: 0 .5em;
background-color:#FFFFFF;
border-radius:3px;
}
</style>
<section class="accordion">
<section class="sections">
<h1>A</h1>
<p>All content for A.</p>
</section>
<br style="line-height:5px"/>
<section class="sections">
<h1>B</h1>
<p>All content for B</p>
</section>
<br style="line-height:5px"/>
<section class="sections">
<h1>C</h1>
<p>All content for C<p>
</section>
</section>
This should work.
All I did was add a condition to check if the accordion class exits on the target parent and remove it if it does. Otherwise everything else is the same.
(function () {
var accordions, i;
// Make sure the browser supports what we are about to do.
if (!document.querySelectorAll || !document.body.classList) return;
// Using a function helps isolate each accordion from the others
function makeAccordion(accordion) {
var targets, currentTarget, i;
targets = accordion.querySelectorAll('.accordion > * >h1 ');
for(i = 0; i < targets.length; i++) {
targets[i].addEventListener('click', function (e) {
/*Added the code below*/
if (e.target.parentNode.classList.contains("expanded")) {
e.target.parentNode.classList.remove("expanded")
} else {
/*Else do the following, same as before */
if (currentTarget)
currentTarget.classList.remove('expanded');
currentTarget = this.parentNode;
currentTarget.classList.add('expanded');
}
}, false);
}
accordion.classList.add('js');
}
// Find all the accordions to enable
accordions = document.querySelectorAll('.accordion');
console.log(accordions);
// Array functions don't apply well to NodeLists
for(i = 0; i < accordions.length; i++) {
makeAccordion(accordions[i]);
}
})();
.accordion.js > * {
overflow: hidden;
}
.accordion.js > *:not(.expanded) > *:not(h1) {
max-height: 0;
margin-top: 0;
margin-bottom: 0;
opacity: 0;
visibility: hidden;
}
.accordion.js > .expanded > *:not(h1) {
max-height: 10em;
opacity: 1;
visibility: visible;
}
.accordion.js > * > h1 {
cursor: pointer;
visibility: visible;
}
.accordion.js > * > *:not(h1) {
transition: max-height 0.7s,
visibility 1s,
margin 1s,
opacity 1s;
}
.sections {
color:#5E5E5E;
text-align:center;
width:90%;
border-style:solid;
border-width:1px;
border-color:#D1D1D1;
padding: 0 .5em;
background-color:#FFFFFF;
border-radius:3px;
}
<section class="accordion">
<section class="sections">
<h1>A</h1>
<p>All content for A.</p>
</section>
<br style="line-height:5px"/>
<section class="sections">
<h1>B</h1>

<section class="sections">

Vertical distribution of elements (and animation) - jQuery

I like to know the cleanest method to distribute elements vertically with jQuery. I nailed it but it's not very clean right >< ? I would like to get to do it without plugin... Thank you in advance ;-)
Here my JSFiddle
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
var gap = 10;
var firstElem = $('#lorem');
if(firstElem.length){
var heightCall = (firstElem.offset().top)+(firstElem.outerHeight())+(gap);
var middleElem = $('#dolore');
middleElem.offset({top : heightCall});
var lastElem = $('#amet');
var NewHeightCall = (middleElem.offset().top)+(middleElem.outerHeight())+(gap);
lastElem.offset({top : NewHeightCall});
/* Animation */
$('#lorem, #dolore, #amet').hover(
function(){
$(this).stop().animate({left: (($(this).offset().left)-(20))+'px',opacity:'0.5'},'slow')
},
function(){
$(this).stop().animate({left: (($(this).offset().left)+(20))+'px',opacity:'1'},'slow')
});
}
});
I have fiddled around with your code:
This is a simplified version:
HTML:
<div id="lorem" class="vertical-block">My first ID div</div>
<div id="dolore" class="vertical-block">My second ID div.<br>My second ID div. My second ID div.</div>
<div id="amet" class="vertical-block">My third ID div</div>
CSS:
.vertical-block {
position: absolute;
padding:15px;
}
#lorem{
top:20%;
right:40px;
background:#f79673;
}
#dolore{
right:80px;
background:#cd7454;
}
#amet{
right:40px;
background:#a15338;
}
.vertical-block:hover {
opacity: 0.5;
padding-right: 30px;
-webkit-transition: all 2s;
transition: all 0.4s;
}
Javascript:
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
var gap = 10;
var firstElem = $('#lorem');
var top = 0;
$('.vertical-block').each(function(element){
var $currentElement = $(this);
if (top === 0) {
top = $currentElement.offset().top + $currentElement.outerHeight() + gap;
} else {
$currentElement.offset({top: top});
top = top + $currentElement.outerHeight() + gap;
}
});
});
https://jsfiddle.net/rae2x4e0/1/
Now if you want to go for a purely css solution, then:
HTML:
<div class="container">
<div id="lorem" class="vertical-block">My first ID div</div>
<br />
<div id="dolore" class="vertical-block">My second ID div.<br>My second ID div. My second ID div.</div>
<br />
<div id="amet" class="vertical-block">My third ID div</div>
</div>
CSS:
.container {
position-relative;
text-align: right;
padding-top: 10%;
}
.vertical-block {
padding:15px;
display: inline-block;
margin-top: 20px;
}
#lorem{
right:40px;
background:#f79673;
}
#dolore{
right:80px;
background:#cd7454;
}
#amet{
right:40px;
background:#a15338;
}
.vertical-block:hover {
opacity: 0.5;
padding-right: 30px;
-webkit-transition: all 2s;
transition: all 0.4s;
}

Animate elements on .click () using .clone () and .animate ()

There're next HTML:
<div class="garden">
<div class="point left">◄</div>
<div class="trees">
<div id="apple">Apple</div>
<div id="cherry">Cherry</div>
<div id="pear">Pear</div>
<div id="oak">Oak</div>
<div id="fir">Fir</div>
</div>
<div class="point right">►</div>
</div>
And CSS:
.garden { position: absolute; top: 135px; left: 150px; }
.garden > div { display:inline-block; }
.trees { width:550px; height:53px; position:relative; font-size:70%; }
.point { width: 16px; height: 15px; background: url(/point-sprite.png) no-repeat;}
.point.left { background-position: -16px 0; }
.point:hover { background-position: 0 0; }
.point.right { background-position: -32px 0; }
.point:hover { background-position: -48px 0 }
.trees > div span { min-width:50px; position:absolute; display:inline-block; top:25px; left:15px; text-align:center; }
#apple, #cherry, #pear, #oak, #fir { position: absolute; color: #0094d9; }
#apple { top: 10px; }
#cherry { top: 2px; left: 90px; }
#pear { left: 180px; }
#oak { left: 280px; }
#fir { top: 2px; left: 373px; }
I need to change the position of the elements to the left after each clicking "point left". And to the right after each clicking "poin right". When an item has a position of leftmost and click "point left" then this item should go right to the rightmost position. One great man (https://stackoverflow.com/users/2121519/stuart-miller) help me to creat next script:
JS
$(document).ready(function () {
function changePositionLeft() {
var trees = $('#trees');
trees.children().each( function(index, child) {
if (index == 0) {
$(child).animate(trees.children().last().position());
}
else {
$(child).animate(trees.children().eq(index - 1).position());
}
});
trees.children().first().appendTo(trees);
}
$(".point.left").click(function() {
changePositionLeft();
});
});
Help transform it according to my task with using .clone. Thanks in advance

You want us to code the changePositionRight function?
If so, here it is.
I kept the same structure as the changePositionLeft method, but changed the following:
if (index == trees.children().length -1) {
$(child).animate(trees.children().first().position());
}
Instead of targetting the first element and putting it in the last position, we target the last one, and put it in first position.
Then:
else {
$(child).animate(trees.children().eq(index + 1).position());
}
Instead of moving the others elements to the previous position, move them to the next position.
Final result
Add this to your script:
function changePositionRight(){
var trees = $('#trees');
trees.children().each( function(index, child) {
if (index == trees.children().length -1) {
$(child).animate(trees.children().first().position());
}
else {
$(child).animate(trees.children().eq(index + 1).position());
}
});
trees.children().last().appendTo(trees);
}
$(".point.right").click(function() {
changePositionRight();
});
