Create a text file using JavaScript without using web interface - javascript

I'm looking for a method to create + write a text file using JavaScript but I only found method with browser. I don't need my browser to do that, I want to implement a method in my code that write data in a text file nothing to do with the browser.
So someone know how to do this ?

Use Node.Js:
Node.js Write a line into a .txt file
Something like:
var fs = require('fs')
var logger = fs.createWriteStream('log.txt', {
flags: 'a' // 'a' means appending (old data will be preserved)
})
logger.write('some data') // append string to your file
logger.write('more data') // again
logger.write('and more') // again
https://nodejs.org/api/fs.html

How input Value from Scanner, and output the value to an txt file in Java?

I'm struggling to input value from Scanner option in Java to a txt file. while I can smoothly read the data using try{} catch{}, I cannot write the data from a scanner to the txt file. I can easily write data to txt file using PrintWriter, but that's not my goal... According to the scenario of the assignment, I have to create the system to input values and store the data text file, which I'm struggling to do.
Please help me with this problem, and provide me a solution...
This is my first Java project. Thanks
Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
String data = sc.nextLine(); //taking input from user
// Use try with resource to release system resources
try ( FileWriter myWriter = new FileWriter("filename.txt"); ) {
myWriter.write(data); //writing into file
}
As you say you have successfully read (and maybe also manipulated) the data. Lets assume you have it ready to be written out as a String data and you also have a String filename of the file's intended name.
You can then do the following:
// generate the File object
File f = Paths.get("./" + filename).toFile();
f.delete(); // remove previous existing file -- equivalent to overwrite
try(BufferedWriter wr = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(f))){
wr.append(data); // adding the data into write buffer
wr.flush(); // writing the data out to the file
wr.close(); // closing the buffered writer
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}

Is it possible to write text in the middle of a file with fs.createWriteStream ? (or in nodejs in general)

I'm trying to write in a text file, but not at the end like appendFile() do or by replacing the entiere content...
I saw it was possible to chose where you want to start with start parameter of fs.createwritestream() -> https://nodejs.org/api/fs.html#fs_fs_createwritestream_path_options
But there is no parameter to say where to stop writting, right ? So it remove all the end of my file after I wrote with this function.
const fs = require('fs');
var logger = fs.createWriteStream('result.csv', {
flags: 'r+',
start: 20 //start to write at the 20th caracter
})
logger.write('5258,525,98951,0,1\n') //example a new line to write
Is there a way to specify where to stop writting in the file to have something like:
....
data from begining
....
5258,525,98951,0,1
...
data till the end
...
I suspect you mean, "Is it possible to insert in the middle of the file." The answer to that is: No, it isn't.
Instead, to insert, you have to:
Determine how big what you're inserting is
Copy the data at your insertion point to that many bytes later in the file
Write your data
Obviously when doing #2 you need to be sure that you're not overwriting data you haven't copied yet (either by reading it all into memory first or by working in blocks, from the end of the file toward the insertion point).
(I've never looked for one, but there may be an npm module out there that does this for you...)
You could read/parse your file at first. Then apply the modifications and save the new file.
Something like:
const fs = require("fs");
const fileData = fs.readFileSync("result.csv", { encoding: "utf8" });
const fileDataArray = fileData.split("\n");
const newData = "5258,525,98951,0,1";
const index = 2; // after each row to insert your data
fileDataArray.splice(index, 0, newData); // insert data into the array
const newFileData = fileDataArray.join("\n"); // create the new file
fs.writeFileSync("result.csv", newFileData, { encoding: "utf8" }); // save it

How to use SaveAs function in Adobe Acrobat

I was trying to implement a javascript into a pdf button.Once you click it, it will allow you to .
I know there are security issues which does not allow you to use this function in pdf. And it requires you to put a SaveAs Javascript to make it trusted Functions in the computer. So i have put following code as a trusted function in my computer.
var mySaveAs = app.trustedFunction(
function(oDoc,cPath,cFlName)
{
// Ensure path has trailing "/"
cPath = cPath.replace(/([^/])$/, "$1/");
try{
oDoc.saveAs(cPath + cFlName);
}catch(e){
app.alert("Error During Save");
}
}
);
And i have these codes in my pdf file's button which allows me to saveas another pdf file which name is "123.pdf".
var doc = app.activeDocs;
var aMyPath = this.path.split("/");
aMyPath.pop();
var pathname = aMyPath.join("/")
if(typeof(mySaveAs) == "function"){
mySaveAs(doc,pathname,"345.pdf")
}else{
app.alert("Missing Save Fucntion" + "Please contact forms administrator");
}
i don't know why, but it still gives me an error message saying "Error During Save". Does anyone know the reason? Or there's a easier way to use the SaveAs function using JavaScript in Acrobat. Thanks in advance.
app.activeDocs is an array of Doc objects. Therefore the variable doc (which has not the smartest name, BTW) is an array.
However the save function requires one Doc object to work.
Try whether replacing
mySaveAs(doc,pathname,"345.pdf")
with
mySaveAs(this,pathname,"345.pdf")
would work.
I've an old code for similar thing, and that used the below code for saving the current file in new folder. I had used this in Adobe 6. Check if this works for you.
this.saveAs(destfolder+filename);

How to read and write to a file (Javascript) in ui automation?

I want to identify few properties during my run and form a json object which I would like to write to a ".json"file and save it on the disk.
var target = UIATarget.localTarget();
var properties = new Object();
var jsonObjectToRecord = {"properties":properties}
jsonObjectToRecord.properties.name = "My App"
UIALogger.logMessage("Pretty Print TEST Log"+jsonObjectToRecord.properties.name);
var str = JSON.stringify(jsonObjectToRecord)
UIALogger.logMessage(str);
// -- CODE TO WRITE THIS JSON TO A FILE AND SAVE ON THE DISK --
I tried :
// Sample code to see if it is possible to write data
// onto some file from my automation script
function WriteToFile()
{
set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
set s = fso.CreateTextFile("/Volumes/DEV/test.txt", True);
s.writeline("HI");
s.writeline("Bye");
s.writeline("-----------------------------");
s.Close();
}
AND
function WriteFile()
{
// Create an instance of StreamWriter to write text to a file.
sw = new StreamWriter("TestFile.txt");
// Add some text to the file.
sw.Write("This is the ");
sw.WriteLine("header for the file.");
sw.WriteLine("-------------------");
// Arbitrary objects can also be written to the file.
sw.Write("The date is: ");
sw.WriteLine(DateTime.Now);
sw.Close();
}
But still unable to read and write data to file from ui automation instruments
Possible Workaround ??
To redirect to the stdout if we can execute a terminal command from my ui automation script. So can we execute a terminal command from the script ?
Haven't Tried :
1. Assuming we can include the library that have those methods and give it a try .
Your assumptions are good, But the XCode UI Automation script is not a full JavaScript.
I don't think you can simply program a normal browser based JavaScript in the XCode UI Automation script.
set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
Is not a JavaScript, it is VBScript which will only work in Microsoft Platforms and testing tools like QTP.
Scripting.FileSystemObject
Is an ActiveX object which only exists in Microsoft Windows
Only few JavaScript functions like basic Math, Array,...etc..Are provided by the Apple JavaScript library, so you are limited to use only the classes provided here https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/DeveloperTools/Reference/UIAutomationRef/
If you want to do more scripting then Try Selenium IOS Driver http://ios-driver.github.io/ios-driver/
Hey so this is something that I was looking into for a project but never fully got around to implementing so this answer will be more of a guide of what to do than step by step copy and paste.
First you're going to need to create a bash script that writes to a file. This can be as simple as
!/bin/bash
echo $1 >> ${filename.json}
Then you call this from inside your Xcode Instruments UIAutomation tool with
var target = UIATarget.localTarget();
var host = target.host();
var result = host.performTaskWithPathArgumentsTimeout("your/script/path", ["Object description in JSON format"], 5);
Then after your automation ends you can load up the file path on your computer to look at the results.
EDIT: This will enable to write to a file line by line but the actual JSON formatting will be up to you. Looking at some examples I don't think it would be difficult to implement but obviously you'll need to give it some thought at first.

Get / Read Text File from URL - Javascript for After Effects

I'm used to selecting, opening and reading a text file (CSV, JSON) from my local directory. I now have access to our data feeds online but don't know how to do the same thing with a URL instead of a local file.
For a local file I simply use something like this:
var myFile = File.openDialog();
myFile.open();
myFile.read();
Is there a way to do this with a feed from a URL in javascript for AE?
Here is one of the feeds: feeds.nfl.com/feeds-rs/schedules.json
No need to save file, just one line do the trick =)
data = JSON.parse(system.callSystem('curl -s "https://path_to_json"'));
I think in After Effects the easiest way is to do a system call.
The Socket object from ExtendScript is complicated. Look at GetURLs.jsx by Rorohiko.
You need to allow your script to access the network. See this stackoverflow
# Mac Osx
var curlcmd = "curl feeds.nfl.com/feeds-rs/schedules.json > ~/Desktop/test/schedules.json";
var stdout = system.callSystem(curlcmd);
$.writeln(stdout);
var file = File("~/Desktop/test/schedules.json");
file.open();
var content = file.read();
file.close();
$.writeln(content);
