I use selectize.js for dropdown lists in my project. I have 3 dropdown lists related to each other. When I click an option from first dropdown list, some elements from second and third dropdown lists should be disabled. When I click an option from second dropdown list, some elements from third dropdown list should be disabled.
When I try some basic jquery or javascript methods to disable an option from dropdownlists, they don't affect. However, when I delete selectize.js classes from dropdownlists, they immediately affect, disable options that I want.
Here is my sample code for dropdownlists;
<div id="pro_yur_gru" class="row form-row">
<div class="col-lg-4 col-md-4">
<label class="form-label">Person</label>
<select id="Person1" class="demo-default" name="PERSONLIST" onchange="my_onchange_function_to_remove_2_and_3()">
<option value="">Select a person...</option>
<option value="4">Albert</option>
<option value="1">Frank</option>
<option value="3">Doug</option>
<option value="5">Arnold</option>
</select>
<script type="text/javascript">
$('#Person1').selectize({
allowEmptyOption:true,
create: true,
dropdownParent: 'body'
});
</script>
</div>
</div>
<div id="pro_yur_gru2" class="row form-row">
<div class="col-lg-4 col-md-4">
<label class="form-label">Person 2</label>
<select id="Person2" class="demo-default" name="PERSONLIST2" onchange="my_onchange_function_to_remove_3()">
<option value="">Select a person...</option>
<option value="4">Thomas</option>
<option value="1">Mark</option>
<option value="3">Nicholas</option>
<option value="5">James</option>
<option value="6">Matt</option>
<option value="7">Kenny</option>
</select>
<script type="text/javascript">
$('#Person2').selectize({
allowEmptyOption:true,
create: true,
dropdownParent: 'body'
});
</script>
</div>
</div>
<div id="pro_yur_gru_3" class="row form-row">
<div class="col-lg-4 col-md-4">
<label class="form-label">Person3</label>
<select id="Person3" class="demo-default" name="PERSONLIST3">
<option value="">Select a person...</option>
<option value="1">Chuck</option>
<option value="3">Alex</option>
<option value="2">Donald</option>
<option value="5">John</option>
<option value="7">Dwayne</option>
<option value="6">Kevin</option>
<option value="4">Tim</option>
<option value="8">Patrick</option>
</select>
<script type="text/javascript">
$('#Person3').selectize({
allowEmptyOption:true,
create: true,
dropdownParent: 'body'
});
</script>
</div>
</div>
What I need is something like this;
to change <option value="4">Albert</option> to <option disabled value="4">Albert</option> by using a javascript function.
Edit: I use this project on IE10.
Disabled select options can also be achieved by overriding the render function.
$('#control').selectize({
render: {
option: function(item, escape) {
if (item.value === '') {
return '<div style="pointer-events: none; color: #aaa;">' + escape(item.label) + '</div>';
}
return '<div>' + escape(item.label) + '</div>';
}
}
});
Or uses plugin https://github.com/mondorobot/selectize-disable-options

I have created a conditional dropdown in which by default the values are "Select vehicle make" and "Select vehicle model". The select vehicle model is disabled by default because I want the customer to choose the make first so that we can load related models.
There's another option called "other". What it means is if the make and model are not listed in the list choose other. The other will bring two input text field where the customer can write make and model by themselves.
Issue 1: Now coming to the issue, if I select any "Make", by default the "Model" field should just become active, and that's working fine, but what's wrong with it is the model dropdown is selecting "- other -" by default instead of "Select vehicle model".
Issue 2: How do I replace the model dropdown with an input text field when I choose "- other -" from the "Model" dropdown.
Looking forward to a solution.

To fix issue #1, one option is to pre-assign a value to the "-Select Vehicle Model" option before running the filter, then set it as the "selected" option.
// pre-assign a value to the first option - "Select Vehicle Model"
$("#model option:eq(0)").val(this.value);
// run the filter, which will now include the first option
$model.html($options.filter('[value="' + this.value + '"]'));
// make the first option the selected option
$("#model option:eq(0)").prop("selected",true);
My solution on CodePen: https://codepen.io/onegrumpybunny/full/NmjzXb
For issue #2, you can hide the div containing the "model" select and show the div containing the "other" text field.
$('#model').on('change', function() {
if ($('#model :selected').text() == '- Other -') {
// uncomment this to hide the "model" select when "other" option is selected
//$('.model-div-not-others').addClass("hide");
$('.model-div-for-others').removeClass("hide");
$('#model-others').removeAttr("disabled");
} else {
$('.model-div-for-others').addClass("hide");
$('#model-others').attr("disabled","disabled");
}
});
A word of warning though, using the text of an option is not best practice. I'd recommend assigning a valid value to each option. Then, add a data-attribute value for each option and filter on that instead (I believe someone else mentioned this as well). This will leave you with valid values coming from your form.
--- edit ---
Here is an example of your app with valid values assigned to each option and filtering done on a data attribute value: https://codepen.io/onegrumpybunny/full/wZevjy
I am building a search result filtering feature. I have a number of select2 dropdown boxes where the user can select multiple values from to either hide or show divs with matching class values. I have a number of divs with classes containing values matching values in the select2 dropdown boxes. How do I go about coding this functionality?
I can only get this to work for one selection, I'd like to be able to select multiple options from the dropdowns.
$('select.filterCandidates').bind('change', function() {
$('select.filterCandidates').attr('disabled', 'disabled');
$('#candidates').find('.row').hide();
var critriaAttribute = '';
$('select.filterCandidates').each(function() {
if ($(this).val() != '0') {
critriaAttribute += '[data-' + $(this).data('attribute') + '*="' + $(this).val() + '"]';
}
});
$('#candidates').find('.row' + critriaAttribute).show();
$('#filterCount').html('Showing ' + $('div#candidates div.row:visible').length + ' Matches');
$('select.filterCandidates').removeAttr('disabled');
});
$('#reset-filters').on("click", function() {
$('#candidates').find('.row').show();
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">

<h4>Search Form</h4>
<br>
</div>
<div class="col-md-4">
<div class="form-group">
<select id="type" class="form-control filterCandidates" data-attribute="type">
<option value="0">Candidate Type</option>
<option value="CA">CA</option>
<option value="CFA">CFA</option>
<option value="CFO">CFO</option>
<option value="CIMA">CIMA</option>
</select>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-md-4">
<div class="form-group">
<select id="role" class="form-control filterCandidates" data-attribute="role">
<option value="0">Preferred Role</option>
<option value="Analyst">Analyst</option>
<option value="Associate">Associate</option>
<option value="CFO">CFO</option>
<option value="FD">FD</option>
<option value="FM">FM</option>
</select>
</div>
</div>
<div class="col-md-4">
<div class="form-group">
<select id="roleType" class="form-control filterCandidates" data-attribute="roleType">
<option value="0">Preferred Role Type</option>

<option value="Contract/Interim">Contract/Interim</option>
<option value="Internship">Internship</option>

</div>
</div>
</div>
just to give you a rough idea as you have not provided any code.
<script>
var SelectedValues = $('#ddlSelect option:selected');
var NotSelectedValues $('#ddlSelect option:not(:selected)');
$(SelectedValues ).each(function () {
$("."+$(this).val()+"").show(); //show all those divs containing
//this class
});
$(NotSelectedValues ).each(function () {
$("."+$(this).val()+"").hide();//hide all those divs containing
//this class
});
</script>
This is a rough idea , The above script will show all of the divs containing the classes you have selected in your select2 with id "ddlSelect" and hide those which you have not selected.
you can put this into a function and call it on onchange event of ddlSelect or whatever and however you want it to.
What I'm trying to achieve here is this: I have a select input that has 3 options : Sale, Rent, Wanted. Depending on which option is selected, there are 3 other select inputs. So lets say I choose Sale then it should show the property sale select input and hide the other two, if I choose Rent then it should show the property rent select input and the hide the other two.
The hiding works well but my issue is when i submit for search using GET, it passes the data of the two other hidden select inputs because they are not disabled. I tried disabling them depending on selection as shown in the below code but it didn't work. Any help?
Here is my code:
<script type="text/javascript">
$('#type').on('change',function(){
if( $(this).val() === "sale"){
$("#propertyrent").hide();
$("#propertywanted").hide();
$("#pricetype").show();
$("#propertysale").show();
document.getElementById("propertyrent").disabled=true;
document.getElementById("propertywanted").disabled=true;
}
else if( $(this).val() === "rent"){
$("#pricetype").hide();
$("#propertyrent").show();
$("#propertywanted").hide();
$("#propertysale").hide();
document.getElementById('propertysale').disabled=true;
document.getElementById('propertywanted').disabled=true;
}
else if( $(this).val() === "wanted"){
$("#pricetype").hide();
$("#propertyrent").hide();
$("#propertywanted").show();
$("#propertysale").hide();
document.getElementById('propertyrent').disabled=true;
document.getElementById('propertysale').disabled=true;
}
});
</script>
<label class="col-sm-3 control-label">Type</label>
<select name="type" id="type">
<option value="sale">Sale</option>
<option value="rent">Rent</option>
<option value="wanted">Wanted</option>
</select>
<div id="propertysale">
<label class="col-sm-3 control-label">Property</label>
<select name="propertysale" id="propertysale" class="form-control col-sm-12">
<option value="all">Any</option>

<option value="apartments">Apartments</option>
<option value="land">Land</option>
<option value="buildings">Buildings</option>
<option value="wfsc" >Warehouse / Factory / Store / Chalet</option>
</select>
</div>
<div id="propertyrent" style="display:none;">

<select name="propertyrent" id="propertyrent" class="form-control col-sm-12">

</select>
Use jQuery selector for any input inside div to disabling them:
$("#yourDiv input, #yourDiv select").prop("disabled", true);
To remove disabled: prop("disabled", false);
here div and your selectbox id is same 'propertyrent','propertywanted','propertysale' change this.
and when you hide or disable selectbox set value blank of select box
The problem is, you are not disabling the select menu. You are disabling the div that contains the select menu
<div id="propertyrent" style="display:none;">..
<select name="propertyrent" id="propertyrent" c...
Use different id for both. It will work
I am new to jQuery and javaScript. I am using bootstrap. I have a select menu that is visible and two additional select menus that are hidden. I would like to show the hidden select menus id the user selects "TV" from the visible select menu options. If they select any of the other value options from the visible select menu, I need to display a simple text box where they can explain. After researching online I attempted to do it using some js, but it is not working. Below is my code and here is my jsfiddle link: https://jsfiddle.net/nx6cc1Lc/
HTML:
<div class="hear-from">
<div class="selects-4 col-xs-12">
<label for="heard_tv">Where did you hear about us from?</label>
<select id="heard_tv" class="form-control selectTV" name="heard_tv">
<option>--Choose Option--</option>
<option value="TV">TV Commercial</option>
<option value="Radio">Radio Advertisement-Other</option>
<option value="OT">Other</option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="selects-5 col-xs-6 hidden">
<select id="heard_from_station" class="form-control selectStation" name="heard_from_station">
<option>--Choose Station--</option>
<option value="TV:ABC">ABC News</option>
<option value="TV:TWCNews">New York 1 - TWC News</option>
<option value="TV:BBC">BBC America</option>
<option value="TV:CNBC">CNBC</option>
<option value="TV:CNN">CNN</option>
<option value="TV:Fox News">FOX News</option>
<option value="TV:Fox Business">FOX Business</option>
<option value="TV:TWCNews">Time Warner News</option>
<option value="TV:HLN">Headline News</option>
<option value="TV:MSNBC">MSNBC</option>
<option value="TV:Other">Other</option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="selects-6 col-xs-6 hidden">
<select id="heard_from_provider" class="form-control selectProvider" name="heard_from_provider">
<option>--Choose Provider--</option>
<option value="TVP:ATT">AT & T</option>
<option value="TVP:Comcast">Comcast</option>
<option value="TVP:Cablevision">Cablevision</option>

<option value="TVP:Dish">Dish Network</option>
<option value="TVP:TimeWarner">Time Warner Cable</option>
<option value="TVP:VerFiOS">Verizon FiOS</option>
<option value="TVP:Antenna">Over the Air / Antenna</option>
<option value="TVP:Other">Other TV Provider</option>
</select>
</div>
</div>
Javascript:
// show tv station and provider menus if TV selected
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#heard_tv').on('change', function() {
if ( this.value === "TV")
//.....................^.......
{
$("#heard_from_station").removeClass('hidden');
$("#heard_from_provider").removeClass('hidden');
}
else
{
$('#heard_from_station').removeClass().addClass('hidden');
$('#heard_from_provider').removeClass().addClass('hidden');
}
});
});
Update your script as given below.
// show tv station and provider menus if TV selected
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#heard_tv').on('change', function() {
if ( this.value === "TV")
{
$("#heard_from_station").parent().removeClass('hidden');
$("#heard_from_provider").parent().removeClass('hidden');
}
else
{
$('#heard_from_station').parent().addClass('hidden');
$('#heard_from_provider').parent().addClass('hidden');
}
});
});
As your html contains "hidden" class on the parent element ".parent()", you need to add / remove class on the parent. Alternatively, you can also give ID to the parent elements and use those ids directly in your script, without using ".parent()".
Just use show() and hide() of jquery for this.Below is the code part for your issue
<script src="jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="sample.js"></script>
<div class="hear-from">
<div class="selects-4 col-xs-12">

</div>
<div class="selects-5 col-xs-6" style="display:none">

The problem is that the div tags that contain your secondary select menus are hidden, not the select menus themselves -- even so, your script is trying to remove the class from the select menus. So there are a number of ways you can fix this.
One way to fix this is to apply the hidden class to your select menus instead of your div tags.
<div class="selects-5 col-xs-6">
<select id="heard_from_station" class="form-control selectStation hidden" name="heard_from_station">
...
</select>
</div>
<div class="selects-6 col-xs-6">
<select id="heard_from_provider" class="form-control selectProvider hidden" name="heard_from_provider">
...
</select>
</div>
How would I be able to display select menu when someone select the value option in style id? Code is like this.
HTML :
<div class="row">
<select name="style" id="style">
<option value="banner"></option>
<option value="text"></option>
<option value="vedio"></option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="row">
<select name="language" id="language" style="display:none;">
<option value="EN"></option>
<option value="ES"></option>
<option value="FR"></option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="row">
<select name="english" id="english" style="display:none;">
<option value="text"></option>
<option value="img"></option>
<option value="vedio"></option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="row">
<select name="spanish" id="spanish" style="display:none;">
<option value="text"></option>
<option value="img"></option>
<option value="vedio"></option>
</select>
</div>
<div class="row">
<select name="french" id="french" style="display:none;" >
<option value="text"></option>
<option value="img"></option>
<option value="vedio"></option>
</select>
</div>
SCRIPT :
$('#style').change(function(){
selection = $(this).val();
switch(selection)
{
case 'text':
$('#language').show();
break;
default:
$('#language').hide();
break;
}
});
$('#language').change(function(){
selection = $(this).val();
switch(selection)
{
case 'EN':
$('#english').show();
break;
default:
$('#english').hide();
break;
}
});
i want select text value i get language choice when i select language i get anther select menu
You are using the id selector $('#language') and your selects have no ids. You should give ids to each of your selects or use the attribute-equals selector $('[name="language"]') instead.
Try changing
selection = $(this).val();
to
selection = $('#style option:selected').val();
