C3 stacked chart maintain data order - javascript

I'm following the instructions from the reference and from this answer, but am having no success.
I've got a stacked bar chart, I want the data in the stack to appear in the order it is in in the data, but it's getting re-ordered and I can't figure out how to prevent it.

I would like the series to be in the order 0-1, 2-3, 4-5, etc

Turns out this is a known issue. If any one of the headers is an integer (or a string that is an integer), then c3 will sort the columns.
To work around I'm appending a space to the end of the column names so c3 interprets them as a string and not a number.
eg
chartOptions['data']['rows'][0] = ["0-1","2-3","4-5",
"6 ", "7 "]; // Spaces appended to these
chartOptions['data']["groups"] = [["0-1","2-3","4-5","6 ", "7 "]];

I have a data series structured like this (from an API call):

The sorting order is value high to low, regardless of the label. These are to be plotted in an Highcharts horizontal bar chart.
Notice there are two numeric (string, though) labels: "1995" and "2020".
This specific data format is then parsed for Highcharts:

as per the jsfiddle example (https://jsfiddle.net/_dario/o6nugkrw/24/), the sorting order along the Y axis in the chart is different, and no matter what the order the data is presented in, the two "numeric" labels always stay on top and are sorted differently (by numeric value).
I found no reference in the Highcharts docs about this and would like to have them treated as "words" like the others and sorted accordingly. I believe the error might be in the parsing above, but cannot find it.

C3 Bar Graph x-axis labels are too congested

What I did to solve it
I have used timeseries type instead of category type, after that the label issue got resolved but the graph was been plottted with more white spaces for the month of march like as shown below

You can use c3's tick count setting for this, so here we say 20 labels.
However there is an added gotcha in that ticks that now resolve to a fractional category value won't show - i.e. the 2nd equally spaced tick out of 20 may be the 2.6667th element in the x category axis - so you need to have a little format function that adjusts for this, otherwise you just get the end and start labels. (Or you could figure out a tick count that divides into your data count + 1 as a whole number.)

One of the possible solution could be to use x-axis labels at required indexes only & leaving others blank.

You can position labels so that it would capture the date and at same time it looks good also.

How can I create a horizontal stacked bar chart with labels on the bars themselves as well as labels above the bars?

I'm trying to create a horizontal stacked bar chart with labels on the bars themselves (currently using dataLabels) as well as labels just above the bars.
Here is a JSFiddle I've created that somewhat resembles what I am trying to accomplish. In this example I've placed the labels using plotLine labels, but I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to place the bars correctly in my real use case as I get the data for the bars through Ajax calls.

I've experimented with stackLabels, plotLine labels as well as plotBand labels but to no avail. How can I place labels above the bars correctly every time?
I would use plotBands instead of plotLines - you can better control the alignment within the band, which can be set to cover the same portion of the graph as the bar itself.
An example.
Using your series data:

To make this match the order of the series as plotted, we need to set reversedStacks: false on the yAxis, as by default, Highcharts reverses the order of the series. Then we populate the plotBands with our generated array:

In this way you can make use of the full feature set of the plotBands label properties.

Highcharts JSON decimal data format issue

I'm trying to solve an odd problem. I'm getting a json array back from an ajax call and I'm attempting to plot it in highcarts. I've mapped other graphs from the same array and all is well, up until the point I hit decimal numbers (maybe co-incidence). In this case the dates show fine but the y-axis (prices) is empty.
Now, I can 'alert(s5)' and the data displays on the alert box as it should.
I also ran a consol log and see "["5.15", "4.94", "4.43", "4.49", "4.42", "4.41"]" (maybe the " in the numbers is causing the issue!?)
If I put the values manually into the highcharts data it works perfectly but I just can't assign the array to a value and get it to display.

You are correct. The reason the Y axis is not displaying is because of the Strings in your data. (which should be read as numbers)
You have to convert your data from Strings to an array of numbers which can be achieved with the following
s5 = s5.map(Number);

A bit cheeky but have you checked that s5 is actually an array and not a string of comma separated values. You might want to try a console.log to be sure..

Limit labels number on Chart.js line chart

I want to display all of the points on my chart from the data I get, but I don't want to display all the labels for them, because then the chart is not very readable. I was looking for it in the docs, but couldn't find any parameter that would limit this.
I don't want to take only three labels for example, because then the chart is also limited to three points. Is it possible?
I have something like that right now:
If I could just leave every third-fourth label, it would be great. But I found absolutely nothing about labels options.
Try adding the options.scales.xAxes.ticks.maxTicksLimit option:

For concreteness, let's say your original list of labels looks like:
["0", "1", "2", "3", "4", "5", "6", "7", "8"]
If you only want to display every 4th label, filter your list of labels so that every 4th label is filled in, and all others are the empty string (e.g. ["0", "", "", "", "4", "", "", "", "8"]).
For anyone looking to achieve this on Chart JS V2 the following will work:

How to use:
Applicable to bar chart and line chart.
User can now pass a { showXLabels: 10 } to display only 10 labels (actual displayed labels count might be a bit different depending on the number of total labels present on x axis, but it will still remain close to 10 however)
Helps a lot when there is a very large amount of data. Earlier, the graph used to look devastated due to x axis labels drawn over each other in the cramped space. With showXLabels, user now has the control to reduce the number of labels to whatever number of labels fit good into the space available to him.

For Chart.js 3.3.2, you can use #Nikita Ag's approach with a few changes. You can check the documentation. Put ticks in xAxis in scales. Example:

According to the chart.js github issue #12. Current solutions include:
Use 2.0 alpha (not production)
Hide x-axis at all when it becames too crowd (cannot accept at all)
manually control label skip of x-axis (not in responsive page)
However, after a few minutes, I thinks there's a better solution.
The following snippet will hide labels automatically. By modify xLabels with empty string before invoke draw() and restore them after then. Even more, re-rotating x labels can be applied as there's more space after hiding.

i had a similar type of issue, and was given a nice solution to my specific issue show label in tooltip but not in x axis for chartjs line chart. See if this helps you

You may well not need anything with this new built-in feature.
A built-in label auto-skip feature detects would-be overlapping ticks and labels and removes every nth label to keep things displaying normally. https://www.chartjs.org/docs/latest/axes/
To set a custom number of ticks regardless of your chartsjs version:

10 = the number of ticks
5 = rounds tick values to the nearest 5. All your y values will have the same step size.
Similar will work for xAxes too.
This answer works like a charm.
If you are wondering about the clone function, try this one:

In the Chart.js file, you should find (on line 884 for me)

If you just wrap that one line call to fillText with if ( i % config.xFreq === 0){ ... }
and then in chart.Line.defaults add something line xFreq : 1 you should be able to start using xFreq in your options when you call new Chart(ctx).Line(data, options).
Mind you this is pretty hacky.
