Slider control of outside elements - javascript

Hi I have made a slider using slick. I cant for the life of me figure out how to change the background colour of my header when the slides change (which is positioned over the top of the slider).
I am wanting to change the header background to black and text color to white when the second slide becomes visible.
I have gone round in circles all morning trying to figure out a way to do this, I have even tried to duplicate the header and use inside each slide but that brought me many more problems.
Is this at all possible? And if so how? I am hoping somebody can point me in the right direction! thanks
My code as follows:
HTML
<header>hi this is the vavigation</header>
<div class="sliderlastvid">
<div class="videocontainer">
<div class="video">
<div class="video-titre">slide1</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="videocontainer" style="background: white;">
<div class="video">
<div class="video-titre">slide2</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="videocontainer" style="background: yellow;">
<div class="video">
<img src="" alt=""></img>
<div class="video-titre">Slide3</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS
body {background: navy; margin: 0; }
header { width: 100%; height: 30px; color: pink; position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; border-bottom: 1px solid; z-index: 99; }
.slider {
width: auto;
margin: 30px 50px 50px;
}
.slick-slide {
background: #081449;
color: white;
padding: 20px 0;
font-size: 30px;
font-family: "Arial", "Helvetica";
text-align: center;
img { display: inline-block; }
}
JQUERY
$(document).ready(function () {
$('.sliderlastvid').slick({
infinite: true,
slidesToShow: 1,
slidesToScroll: 1
});
});
Please see my fiddle: jsfiddle

<div class="video-titre" id="secondSlide">slide2</div>
#secondSlide {
background: black;
color: white;
}
Works, but is not a very pretty solution.
The .slick-slide class is overwriting all your other classes somehow, can't figure out how to make the secondSlide class overwrite it except with an id.

You need to use before slide change, this is a slick slider function that you can use, here is a little code snippet:
$('.sliderlastvid').on('beforeChange', function(event, slick, currentSlide, nextSlide){
console.log(currentSlide);
});
As you can see from the console log, it will drop out the current slide, you can then use jQuery to target your header and drop a class on to it.
Then use css to target the header & change the colour quick sort of example:
$('.sliderlastvid').on('beforeChange', function(event, slick, currentSlide, nextSlide){
$('header').addClass('slide-' + currentSlide);
});
Target with css
header {
background: white;
}
header.slide-1 {
background: red;
}
Hope this helps.

JQuery UI Slide animation triggering the scrollbar to display during the animation

I'm trying to use JQuery UI's slide animation to toggle a div.
When a link is clicked, the div slide in the page from the right (as seen in this fiddle).
$("#toggle").click(function(event) {
event.stopPropagation();
$("#slider").toggle("slide", {
direction: "right"
}, 300);
});
#toggle {
font-weight: bolder;
cursor: pointer;
}
#slider {
z-index: 100;
display: none;
position: absolute;
right: 0;
top: 50px;
width: 300px;
height: 200px;
padding: 20px;
background: #DDD;
border: 1px solid #000;
}
<html>
<head>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.12.1/jquery-ui.min.js" integrity="sha256-VazP97ZCwtekAsvgPBSUwPFKdrwD3unUfSGVYrahUqU=" crossorigin="anonymous">
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="toggle">
click me to slide
</div>
<div id="slider">
Slidin' in & Slidin' out
</div>
</body>
</html>
The problem I have is this scrollbar that appears during the animation, I don't want it to be displayed, like in JQuery UI's website, they don't have this scrollbar issue and I don't know how they did it.
I would like to avoid wrapping #slider into another container if possible, and I can't set his parent to overflow: hidden neither at the moment.
Is there a simple way to fix this ?
The easiest solution is to set overflow: hidden on the body element. However, since you said that you can't do that, an alternative solution would be to animate the width of the element in order to make it appear like it is sliding in. In reality the width of the element is just increasing/decreasing from 0 and it is animated to make it look like it is sliding.
In jQuery you would do this with the .animate() method and you would set the value of width property to 'toggle'.
$("#toggle").click(function(event){
event.stopPropagation();
$("#slider").animate({
width: 'toggle'
}, 200);
});
In addition, you can also prevent the text from wrapping with white-space: nowrap.
See the full example below:
$("#toggle").click(function(event){
event.stopPropagation();
$("#slider").animate({
width: 'toggle'
}, 200);
});
#toggle {
font-weight: bolder;
cursor: pointer;
}
#slider {
white-space: nowrap;
z-index: 100;
position: absolute;
right: 0;
top: 50px;
width: 300px;
height: 200px;
padding: 20px;
background: #DDD;
border: 1px solid #000;
}
<html>
<head>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="toggle">
click me to slide
</div>
<div id="slider">
Slidin' in & Slidin' out
</div>
</body>
</html>

Slide in div with fixed header

I'm wanting to create a div panel with a link which when clicked slides a panel in from the right, I have this working fine but I want to have the clickable link pushed out with the div panel and it's this I cannot figure out although i'm guessing it's really simple.
The html I have is:
<div class="quick-contact">
<div class="slide-toggle">Slide Toggle</div>
<div class="box">
<div class="box-inner">
content goes here
</div>
</div>
</div>
the css is this:
quick-contact {
background: #ccc;
float:right;
}
.box{
float:right;
overflow: hidden;
background: #f0e68c;
display: none;
}
.slide-toggle {
float: right;
position: relative;
right: 0;
}
/* Add padding and border to inner content for better animation effect */
.box-inner{
width: 400px;
padding: 10px;
border: 1px solid #a29415;
}
and the jquery is:
// use this docu ready //
jQuery(function($) {
$(".slide-toggle").click(function(){
$(".box").animate({
width: "toggle"
});
});
}); // end
I can get the panel to slide when I click the link but the clickable link just sits above the panel when it slides in, I need it to slide out with the panel, I need it to work like this http://www.sanwebe.com/assets/floating-contact-form/ The reason i'm not using that example is because I need to slidein panel to slide in the header div and not the body div like this example does.
Just place your <div class="slide-toggle">...</div> after <div class="box">...</div> (because you are using float: "right";). Make it look like this:
<div class="quick-contact">
<div class="box">
<div class="box-inner">
content goes here
</div>
</div>
<div class="slide-toggle">
Slide Toggle
</div>
</div>
Working example: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/GoPPPE
Here's a working example: https://jsfiddle.net/ruo8r7o8/2/
Essentially, what you want to do is:
Lose the float .. it complicates calculations
Animate the whole box, not just one part
Javascript action:
$(function(){
$('.slide-toggle').click(function(){
$('.quick-contact').animate({
right: $('.quick-contact').css('right') == '0px' ? "100px": "0px"
})
});
});
CSS action:
.quick-contact {
position: absolute;
right: 0;
}
.slide-toggle {
position: relative;
background-color: red;
}
.box {
position: absolute;
right: -100px;
width: 100px;
background-color: green;
}

Responsive code ceases to work after manually toggling a DIV

I have two divs. I want the left div to hide and show automatically according to the window size, i.e. I want it to be responsive.
On the other hand, I want to hide/show the left div manually if necessary. I added a black separator in the middle. When the separator is clicked the left div hides and the right div takes the whole width.
Until now, everything is ok.
BUT. When I hide/show the left div manually, it ceases to react to the responsive code.
Please check this JSFiddle and lend me some help.
Thank you very much.

<head>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>

height: 100%;
position: absolute;

}
.separator {
border-left: 3px solid #000000;
border-right: 3px solid #000000;

z-index: 100;
}
.div2 {
background-color: #99eeff;

}
#media screen and (max-width: 500px) {

}
.div2 {

}
}
</style>
<script>
$(function() {
function hideLeftDiv() {
$('.div1').hide();
$('.div2').css('width', '100%').css('left', 0);
$('.separator').css('left', '0px');
}
function showLeftDiv() {
$('.div1').show();
$('.div2').css('width', 'calc(100% - 300px)').css('left', '300px');
$('.separator').css('left', '300px');
}
$('.separator').click(function() {
$('.div1').is(":visible") ? hideLeftDiv() : showLeftDiv();
});
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div class="div1"></div>
<div class="separator"></div>
<div class="div2"></div>
</body>
</html>
Have a play with having two classes for identifying whether something is hidden or not i.e. desktop and mobile. You can then check whether its actually hidden with is(':hidden') and respond accordingly.
Check this fiddle for a quick demo http://fiddle.jshell.net/tmx3p6ts/31/
Read this: getbootstrap.com/css/#grid You can use the grid system to make a page like you have, but when the screen is getting to small, you can getbootstrap.com/css/#responsive-utilities use this link to know when to hide things.
So to help you maybe a step in the right direction:
<div class="container">
<div class="col-sm-4 hidden-xs">
This is the left div.
</div>
<div class="col-sm-8 col-sm-12">
This is the left div.
</div>
</div>
Something like this should work. Check out this fiddle: Fiddle with bootstrap
You can adjust the classes to any style you want.

Upside down tab like tabzilla from the Mozilla.com website

Mozilla.com has this tab on the top of their site that you can click and a menu drops down. I have a client who wants me to do the same thing but upside down, from the bottom half of the page. Apparently this is a really hard request. How do I make something like tabzilla that goes up and either overlaps or pushes the content away? Thanks!
Update: I love you guys.
Edit: http://hemakessites.com/mayukh/4/ Why does the top "Sign In/Register" pop down and the "Toggle" on the bottom pops up? I'm not seeing the difference besides 'top' and 'bottom' in the css. How does that change the direction of the popup?
Also, clicking the '337-9147' will expand the menu. I only want the button region to be clickable. How can I accomplish this?
You guys are awesome and I'm going to return the favor by answering some questions on here when I get time.
I took a similar approach as others, in that you set a div to have a fixed, or absolute position at the bottom of the screen (depending on whether the tab should always be visible, or only at the very bottom). Then, you can write some very simple javascript to vary the height of the element, and as the bottom is fixed, it will cause the tab to rise into the screen.
Essentially all you need is
.container{
position: absolute;
bottom: -1px;
}
And
$('.container').toggle(function(){
$(this).animate({height:'205px'}, 500)
},function(){
$(this).animate({height:'20px'}, 200)
});
Here's a jsfiddle demo.
Here's a jQuery solution, which is smoother than css3:
So, you'll want to do something like this jsfiddle (NOTE: This requires jQuery):
http://jsfiddle.net/cFkn2/
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#tab').click(function() {
if ($('#tab').css('height') == '20px') {
$('#tab').animate({
height: '100px'
}, 1000);
}
else {
$('#tab').animate({
height: '20px'
}, 1000);
};
});
});
and
#tab{
position: absolute;
bottom: 0;
width: 100%;
background-color: red;
height:20px;
}
and
<div id="tab">CONTENT</div>
Style, edit, and add easing to taste.
I was lazy to make here click handler, so it is css3 only hover sample
I used fixed position with {top: 100%}, transition for animation, margin <0 to show;
HTML
<div id="menu">
<div id="handler">handler</div>
<div id="menucontent">
menu menu<br>
menu menu<br>
</div>
</div>
<div id="content">
<div> text text text</div>
<div> text text text</div>
<!-- many of them -->
<div> text text text</div>
<div> text text text</div>
<div> text text text</div>
</div>
CSS:
#content > div {
font-size: 2em;
height: 2.1em;
border: 1px solid black;
margin-top: 10px;
}
#menu {
left: 30px;
position: fixed;
font-size: 20px;
width: 300px;
height: 300px;
top: 100%;
border: 1px solid red;
background: white;
-webkit-transition: all 1s;
-mozilla-transition: all 1s;
-o-transition: all 1s;
transition: all 1s;
}
#menu #handler {
position: absolute;
top: -40px;
background: green;
font-size: 30px;
height: 40px;
padding-left: 5px;
padding-right: 5px;
left: 10px;
}
#menu:hover {
margin-top: -300px;
}
with click, or
JS:
$(function() {
$('#menu #handler').click(function() {
$('#menu').toggleClass('shown');
});
});
in css change hover to class shown
#menu.shown {
margin-top: -300px;
}

Change 'Click' function to mouseover/mouseout

I am using the following sliding div script:
http://www.webdesignerwall.com/demo/jquery/simple-slide-panel.html
Currently, the slidetoggle function is activated when the .btn-slide button is clicked. This slides up the "panel" div.
Upon clicking the .btn-slide button a second time, the panel div is closed.
I am a complete newb at js, so any assistance would be appreciated. Here's what I am trying to do:
1) When the mouse moves over (as opposed to clicking) the .btn-slide class, i would like the panel to slide out.
2) Then, when the mouse moves out of either the .btn-slide or #panel, i would like the panel to close. (but if the mouse is over either one, the panel should stay open).
I was able to get it working to where the slidetoggle function would close either one, or the other, but not both.
Thank you in advance for the help.
Sincerely,
Mac
Here is the JS:
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(function($){
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.btn-slide').click(function() {
$("#panel").slideToggle("slow");
$(this).toggleClass("active"); return false;
});
});
});
</script>
here is the HTML currently being used:
<div id="prod_nav_tab">
<div id="panel">
This is where stuff goes!
</div>
<p class="slide"><a class="btn-slide">Table of Contents</a></p>
</div>
I have played with the CSS to fit my particular web site and is as follows (the original js, html, css can be obtained from the link above).
div#prod_nav_tab {
width: 200px;
height: 31px;
overflow: hidden;
background-color:#F00;
float: left;
margin: 0px 0px 0px 75px;
}
a:focus {
outline: none;
}
#panel {
background-color:#F00;
width: 200px;
height: 200px;
display: none;
position: absolute;
bottom: 0px;
}
.slide {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
/* border-top: solid 4px #422410; **Adds a line at top of slide button to distibuish it */
background: url(images/btn-slide.gif) no-repeat center top;
}
.btn-slide {
background: #d8d8d8;
text-align: center;
width: 200px;
height: 31px;
padding: 0px 0px 0 0;
margin: 0 0 0 0;
display: block;
font: bold 12pt Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
color: #666;
text-decoration: none;
position: relative;
cursor: pointer;
/* background: url(images/white-arrow.gif) no-repeat right -50px; ** Controls Arrow up/down */
}
.active {
background-position: right 12px;
}
When you move away from the .btn-slide to the #panel it hides it now because it triggers the mouseleave event of the .btn-slide.
To prevent this you should do something like:
HTML:
<div id="trigger">
Slide down
<div id="panel">
Content of your panel
</div>
</div>
JQuery:
jQuery(function($) {
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#trigger").mouseenter(function() {
$("#panel").slideDown("slow");
$(this).addClass("active");
}).mouseleave(function() {
$("#panel").slideUp("slow");
$(this).removeClass("active");
});
});
});
Make sure in your CSS you then set the panel to be hidden from start...
div#panel {
display: none;
}
