How to display labels in pie transition chart using d3.js? - javascript

I am using pie transition chart of d3.js to visualize the potential customers.
The graph is drawn, but the labels are not displayed on the graph.
Here is the code:
var w = 400,
h = 400,
r = Math.min(w, h) / 2,
data = [25,45], // Data values
color = d3.scale.category20(),
arc = d3.svg.arc().outerRadius(r),
donut = d3.layout.pie();
var vis = d3.select("#pie-chart-div").append("svg") // Place the chart in 'pie-chart-div'
.data([data])
.attr("width", w)
.attr("height", h);
var arcs = vis.selectAll("g.arc")
.data(donut)
.enter().append("g")
.attr("class", "arc")
.attr("transform", "translate(" + r + "," + r + ")");
var paths = arcs.append("path")
.attr("fill", function(d, i) { return color(i); });
paths.transition()
.ease("bounce")
.duration(2000)
.attrTween("d", tweenPie);
paths.transition()
.ease("elastic")
.delay(function(d, i) { return 2000 + i * 50; })
.duration(750)
.attrTween("d", tweenDonut);
function tweenPie(b) {
b.innerRadius = 0;
var i = d3.interpolate({startAngle: 0, endAngle: 0}, b);
return function(t) {
return arc(i(t));
};
}
function tweenDonut(b) {
b.innerRadius = r * .6;
var i = d3.interpolate({innerRadius: 0}, b);
return function(t) {
return arc(i(t));
};
}
How to display labels in the pie transition chart ?

To display the text in the "exact location" (which I supposed is in the middle of the arc), you can use the centroid() function:
var labels = arcs.append("text")
.attr("transform", function(d) {
d.innerRadius = 120;
return "translate(" + arc.centroid(d) + ")";
})
.attr("dy", ".35em")
.text(function(d) { return d.value; });
Check this demo:
var w = 400,
h = 400,
r = Math.min(w, h) / 2,
data = [25,45], // Data values
color = d3.scale.category20(),
arc = d3.svg.arc().outerRadius(r),
donut = d3.layout.pie();
var vis = d3.select("body").append("svg") // Place the chart in 'pie-chart-div'
.data([data])
.attr("width", w)
.attr("height", h);
var arcs = vis.selectAll("g.arc")
.data(donut)
.enter().append("g")
.attr("class", "arc")
.attr("transform", "translate(" + r + "," + r + ")");
var paths = arcs.append("path")
.attr("fill", function(d, i) { return color(i); });
var labels = arcs.append("text")
.attr("transform", function(d) { d.innerRadius = 120; return "translate(" + arc.centroid(d) + ")"; })
.attr("dy", ".35em")
.text(function(d) { return d.value; });
paths.transition()
.ease("bounce")
.duration(2000)
.attrTween("d", tweenPie);
paths.transition()
.ease("elastic")
.delay(function(d, i) { return 2000 + i * 50; })
.duration(750)
.attrTween("d", tweenDonut);
function tweenPie(b) {
b.innerRadius = 0;
var i = d3.interpolate({startAngle: 0, endAngle: 0}, b);
return function(t) {
return arc(i(t));
};
}
function tweenDonut(b) {
b.innerRadius = r * .6;
var i = d3.interpolate({innerRadius: 0}, b);
return function(t) {
return arc(i(t));
};
}

Label names are not displayed from input data in pie transition chart of d3.js

I am using d3.js to draw a pie transition chart. But when labels are placed in the data array as show below:
data = [{"label":"sector1", "value":25}, {"label":"sector2", "value":45}]
The pie chart won't be displayed. Instead "NaN" will be printed.
The complete code is pasted below:
var w = 400,
h = 400,
r = Math.min(w, h) / 2,
data = [{"label":"sector1", "value":25}, {"label":"sector2", "value":45}], // Data with label-value pairs
color = d3.scale.category20(),
arc = d3.svg.arc().outerRadius(r),
donut = d3.layout.pie();
var vis = d3.select("body").append("svg") // Place the chart in 'pie-chart-div'
.data([data])
.attr("width", w)
.attr("height", h);
var arcs = vis.selectAll("g.arc")
.data(donut)
.enter().append("g")
.attr("class", "arc")
.attr("transform", "translate(" + r + "," + r + ")");
var paths = arcs.append("path")
.attr("fill", function(d, i) { return color(i); });
var labels = arcs.append("text")
.attr("transform", function(d) { d.innerRadius = 120; return "translate(" + arc.centroid(d) + ")"; })
.attr("dy", ".35em")
.text(function(d) { return d.value; });
paths.transition()
.ease("bounce")
.duration(2000)
.attrTween("d", tweenPie);
paths.transition()
.ease("elastic")
.delay(function(d, i) { return 2000 + i * 50; })
.duration(750)
.attrTween("d", tweenDonut);
function tweenPie(b) {
b.innerRadius = 0;
var i = d3.interpolate({startAngle: 0, endAngle: 0}, b);
return function(t) {
return arc(i(t));
};
}
function tweenDonut(b) {
b.innerRadius = r * .6;
var i = d3.interpolate({innerRadius: 0}, b);
return function(t) {
return arc(i(t));
};
}

How to display the label names along with the values in the chart ?
You need to call donut with your data inside like that :
data2 = data.map(function(d) { return d.value}) // [25, 45]
...
.data(donut(data2))
and then call the label ;
.text(function(d, i) { return data[i].label; });

Updating pie chart with labels (d3)

I'm just trying to append the labels of mbostocks pie chart example, but for some reason I can't get it to work.
I'm essentially just trying to combine two of his examples (pie update, pie labels), so I'm trying to implement this code;
var g = svg.selectAll(".arc")
.data(pie(data))
.enter().append("g")
.attr("class", "arc");
g.append("path")
.attr("d", arc)
.style("fill", function(d) { return color(d.data.apples); });
g.append("text")
.attr("transform", function(d) { return "translate(" + arc.centroid(d) + ")"; })
.attr("dy", ".35em")
.text(function(d) { return d.data.apples; });
});
into this variable in his pie chart update example;
var path = svg.datum(data).selectAll("path")
.data(pie)
.enter().append("path")
.attr("fill", function(d, i) { return color(i); })
.attr("d", arc)
.each(function(d) { this._current = d; }); // store the initial angles
here is the plnk of my attempt, hopefully someone can clear up the issue I'm having.
http://plnkr.co/edit/e05kKjB8KWGqRteh8OdS?p=preview
Code for my attempt;
var width = 960,
height = 500,
radius = Math.min(width, height) / 2;
var color = d3.scale.category20();
var pie = d3.layout.pie()
.value(function(d) { return d.apples; })
.sort(null);
var arc = d3.svg.arc()
.innerRadius(radius - 100)
.outerRadius(radius - 20);
var svg = d3.select("body").append("svg")
.attr("width", width)
.attr("height", height)
.append("g")
.attr("transform", "translate(" + width / 2 + "," + height / 2 + ")");
d3.tsv("data.tsv", type, function(error, data) {
if (error) throw error;
/* var path = svg.datum(data).selectAll("path")
.data(pie)
.enter().append("path")
.attr("fill", function(d, i) { return color(i); })
.attr("d", arc)
.each(function(d) { this._current = d; }); // store the initial angles*/
var g = svg.datum(data).selectAll(".arc")
.data(pie)
.enter().append("g")
.attr("class", "arc")
g.append("path")
.attr("d", arc)
.style("fill", function(d) { return color(d.data.apples); })
.each(function(d) { this._current = d; }); // store the initial angles
g.append("text")
.attr("transform", function(d) { return "translate(" + arc.centroid(d) + ")"; })
.attr("dy", ".35em")
.text(function(d) { return d.data.apples; });
d3.selectAll("input")
.on("change", change);
var timeout = setTimeout(function() {
d3.select("input[value=\"oranges\"]").property("checked", true).each(change);
});
function change() {
var value = this.value;
clearTimeout(timeout);
pie.value(function(d) { return d[value]; }); // change the value function
path = g.data(pie); // compute the new angles
path.transition().duration(750).attrTween("d", arcTween); // redraw the arcs
}
});
function type(d) {
d.apples = +d.apples;
d.oranges = +d.oranges;
return d;
}
// Store the displayed angles in _current.
// Then, interpolate from _current to the new angles.
// During the transition, _current is updated in-place by d3.interpolate.
function arcTween(a) {
var i = d3.interpolate(this._current, a);
this._current = i(0);
return function(t) {
return arc(i(t));
};
}
When you moved from a collection of path to a collection of g containing a path and text, you didn't update your transition to operate on the paths. It's attempting to apply the transition on the g. Corrected code:
function change() {
var value = this.value;
pie.value(function(d) { return d[value]; });
g = g.data(pie);
g.select("path") //<-- operate on the paths in the g
.transition()
.duration(750)
.attrTween("d", arcTween);
}
Running code:
var width = 500,
height = 500,
radius = Math.min(width, height) / 2;
var color = d3.scale.category20();
var pie = d3.layout.pie()
.value(function(d) {
return d.apples;
})
.sort(null);
var arc = d3.svg.arc()
.innerRadius(radius - 100)
.outerRadius(radius - 20);
var svg = d3.select("body").append("svg")
.attr("width", width)
.attr("height", height)
.append("g")
.attr("transform", "translate(" + width / 2 + "," + height / 2 + ")");
var data = [{

Setting color of marker-end arrow in D3.js

The code below displays marker-ends on arrows/paths/lines as intended, but the color of the marker-end does not vary by line (i.e., it is always the same orange color, not the color of its respective line). I think the code is defaulting to the color assigned to the first field of my data(?). Any advice would be appreciated.

While you are creating an svg:marker for each line, you give them all the same id. When they are then used on your line elements, since they all have the same id you are only using one of them.
Simple fix, give them unique ids:
svg.selectAll("marker.brand")
.data(brands)
.enter().append("svg:marker")
.attr('id', function(d,i){
return 'end-arrow' + i; //<-- append index postion
})
...
svg.selectAll(".line")
.data(brands)
.enter().append("line")
.attr("class", "square")
.attr('x1', function(d) {
return x(-d.pc1);
})
.attr('y1', function(d) {
return y(-d.pc2);
})
.attr("x2", function(d) {
return x(d.pc1);
})
.attr("y2", function(d) {
return y(d.pc2);
})
.style("stroke", function(d) {
return color(d['brand']);
})
.style('marker-end', function(d,i){
return "url(#end-arrow"+i+")"; //<--use the one with the right id
})
....

How to generate multiple SVG's in a Meteor.js #each wrapper

Hi there I currently have a template helper that returns me an array with various values used to generate different rows in a table in my HTML.
<template name="stop">
{{#each thumb}}
<tr>
<td>
<h2> Do you like this product? </h2>
<h2>{{text}}</h2>
<svg id="donutChart"> </svg>
</td>
</tr>
{{/each}}
</template>
It also contains a svg tag which I also want to generate a graph for each element generated as a table row and this is what the template helper looks like.
Template.stop.helpers({
'thumb': function(data) {
var result = tweetImages.findOne();
var newResult = [];
for (var i = 0; i < result.data.length; i++) {
newResult[i] = {
data: result.data[i],
text: result.text[i]
};
}

I'm trying to create a pie reactive pie chart for each element in the table however I don't seem to be able to access the svg in the stop template.
The d3 code works fine outside that table but cant seem to be generated for each element of the table because it can't access the svg element.
Template.donutChart.rendered = function() {
//my d3 code is here
//Width and height
var w = 300;
var h = 300;
var center = w / 2;
var outerRadius = w / 2;
var innerRadius = 0;
var radius = 150;
var arc = d3.svg.arc()
.innerRadius(40)
.outerRadius(radius + 10 - 25);
var pie = d3.layout.pie()
.sort(null)
.value(function(d) {
return d.data;
});
//Create SVG element
var svg = d3.select("#donutChart")
.attr("width", w)
.attr("height", h)
.attr("transform", "translate(" + 200 + "," + 100 + ")");
// GROUP FOR CENTER TEXT
var center_group = svg.append("svg:g")
.attr("class", "ctrGroup")
.attr("transform", "translate(" + (w / 2) + "," + (h / 2) + ")");
// CENTER LABEL
var pieLabel = center_group.append("svg:text")
.attr("dy", ".35em").attr("class", "chartLabel")
.attr("text-anchor", "middle")
.text("Clothes")
.attr("fill", "white");
Deps.autorun(function() {
var modifier = {
fields: {
value: 1
}
};
Deps.autorun(function() {
var arcs = svg.selectAll("g.arc")
.data(pie(players))
var arcOutter = d3.svg.arc()
.innerRadius(outerRadius - 10)
.outerRadius(outerRadius);
var arcPhantom = d3.svg.arc()
.innerRadius(-180)
.outerRadius(outerRadius + 180);
var newGroups =

I can't seem to find much information on using d3.js or SVG's within a templates #each wrapper. Any help would be truly appreciated.
I would suggest wrapping your d3 code in a Deps.autorun() function as what's most likely happening is your data isn't available yet when your pie is bound to the data function and thus doesn't render anything.
Template.donutChart.rendered = function() {
Tracker.autorun(function () {
//all d3 code
});
}
You look like you're using autoruns further down but not for the bit that gets your data.

Display Pie chart, Grouped and Stacked bar chart in one page

I want to display two charts in one page.The Pie chart gets displayed but the Grouped and Stacked bar chart is not displaying . I tried to change the Id name in but no luck :( . Will appreciate if anyone helps me with the code correction .

Thanks in advance
first, as we discussed here (d3 Donut chart does not render), you should position your
<div id="body1" height="30%" width="90px"></div>
above the script.
second, you are missing the # in your second svg-declaration to correctly select the div by its id, it has to be
var svg = d3.select("#body1").append("svg")
you could also think about naming the second svg differently (eg svg2) so you don't override your first svg-variable (in case you want to do something with it later).
