redirect to other html file with parameters - javascript

I want to redirect from a.html to b.html with a parameter for example array c[],i used something like location.href = "b.html"; but when i write something like console.log(c[0].name); in my .js i got nothing after the redirection to b.html!
thanks in advance for your help :)
$(".btn").click(function(){
location.href = "b.html";
//.. push of some elemts to the array elements
// .. try to show elements in b.html with console.log() for example
});

As commented before, once you are redirected, you are literally on a new page. So everything you had before is unloaded. ( And your script which is supposed to execute after setting the location.href is stopped )
There are several ways to handle data into the next page, but by far the most easiest one would be to use query-parameter in your URI. Check that out:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Query_string
You are limited by the size of data, the data is somehow visible, and it could be easily hacked, though - but it seems you are quite at the start of something anyway.(?)

Javascript From Console - Load a Few Pages, Then Run Function Per Page Load [duplicate]

I'd like to be able to call a jquery function once window.location has completed loading a URL. Is this possible? I can't seem to find anything online about this.
for instance:
if(parseInt(msg.status)==1) {
window.location=msg.txt;
alert("This URL has finished loading")
}
Thanks,
-Paul
You can either use window.onload of the destination page (if you have access to modify the code of that page), or you can use window.onunload to have the alert be launched when unloading the current page. You cannot execute code on the current page after the new page has been loaded.
Yes.
This page demonstrates onload/onunload behavior.
<html>
<head>
<script>
window.doUnload = function(){
alert("Here!");
}
window.doLoad = function(){
window.location="http://www.google.com";
}
</script>
</head>
<body onload="doLoad();" onunload="doUnload();"></body>
</html>
After a user logs in for the first time I need to load my index page to initialize everything but then need to forward them to another page for profile completion.
use window.location to redirect the user to your index, adding a query parameter (something like window.location=index.php?firstLogin=true ) and on your index redirect (using javascipt http 300, header() or whatever you are using) to the profile page after it ends loading if the parameter is set
Iframe
One (ugly) method you could use is to instead of using window.location, clearing the body, adding an iframe with the relevant path and listening to its onload function.
After that you can run code inside the iframe as long as it's not cross-site scripting.
I use this method to perform small automated scripts, that can't really on third-party plugins.
Ajax
Another method might be using ajax to load the page/body content. Then replacing your body with the newly loaded body and start executing the next functions.

js/jquery Async Content Overwrites Page

ive ran into the following Problem and maybe someone can give me a little advice or a way around this. I have the following Problem:
A Partner of my Page provided me with a Code that i should use on my Page, which writes some Content to my Page that i really want.
Unfortunately this Content is only relevant to People living in a certain region.
So i am using the service of an ip-api which returns the region the current user is in and lets me work with that. This is done with a jsonp ajax call.
If the Person is in the right Region the Code should be executed, if he is not, it shouldnt.
The Problem is that the code to be executed contains a document.write. So if i call that code inside of the ip-api callback the document is allready loaded and the document.write will overwrite my page.
So the big Question is: Is there a way to capture the document.write output into a variable like with PHPs output buffer? Or maybe some way to overwrite the content of an iframe instead of the whole Page? Anything that prevents the document.write from overwriting the page and redirects its output into a part of my page would be sufficient.
Thanks for your time :)
PS: this is the code im talking about:
$.ajax({
url: "http://ip-api.com/json/",
dataType: "jsonp",
success: function( response ) {
if(
response["city"]=="Hamburg" ||
response["region"]=="SH" ||
response["region"]=="NW"
){
document.write("Some Content here");
}
}
});
Replace
document.write("Some Content here");
with
$('#my-container').html('Some content here');

Reloading a Page (or part of a page) using JavaScript

The client I am working for is trying to make it so that his page never has to reload. Instead he just wants to use AJAX. Now I realize that the way im doing it is not a very efficient way to do it but it is the easiest and you would understand why if you would see his site..
I'm trying to get it to work so that AJAX will refresh only parts of the page or the whole page.
My code is:
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>
function refresh (update) {
$.get(location.href, function (data) {
console.log(data);
var EL = $(data).find(update);
var HTML = $('<div>').append(EL.clone()).html()
alert(HTML);
$(update).replaceWith(HTML);
});
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div style="font-size: 64px;">The current timestamp is <b class="time"><?php echo rand(999, 9999999); ?></b></div>
<br><br>
<button onclick="refresh('.time')">Refresh Time</button>
</body>
</html>
When you first load the page PHP generates a random number. Hitting the refresh button is suppose to refresh this number. However, the same number stays there. The request returns the exact same page instead of return a page with a new number.
And again, people note that I know this is not a very efficient way to do this, but its the way i'm trying to get it to work
Am I doing something wrong? (besides requesting the whole page when only actually using part)
EDIT
You can try it out here: http://methods.x10.mx/projects/refreshPageParts.php
Change your call to this, to break the caching:
function refresh (update) {
$.ajax({
type: "get",
cache: false,
url: location.href,
success: function (data) {
$(update).replaceWith($(data).find(update));
}
});
}
See the notes on caching in the documentation: http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax/
By default, requests are always issued, but the browser may serve results out of its cache. To disallow use of the cached results, set cache to false. To cause the request to report failure if the asset has not been modified since the last request, set ifModified to true.
I tested your example on my local wamp stack and it is working fine!
btw: you forgot semicolon after the following line (It is not necessary though)
var HTML = $('<div>').append(EL.clone()).html();
EDIT: your code is working... also on the url you provided. The strange thing is you have to wait a few minutes before it is working. So when you visit the page and press the button, the time won't be updated... however if you wait few minutes it will... only once then you have to wait again. I bet your server is caching the page. So your problem is server side... disable the cache and it will work!!
EDIT:
you also could try to make the get url dynamic with a dummy parameter like so
http://methods.x10.mx/projects/refreshPageParts.php?v=dummy
maybe you don't have to make dummy dynamic, it might work with a static variable also. i'm curious, let me know ;-)

JS and JQuery: Get the new href only after changing it

I have a below anchor as below
<a onclick="return getFile('/log/sample.log');" href="/log/sample.log" target="_blank"> sample.log </a>
Because at my server, the log directory in href may be not correct. So the function "getFile" would change the href to the correct one after asking the server.
The first click always failed since the link was not correct, then after AJAX process in getFile was finished and the correct href was given, the clicks later on was ok.
The problem is how I forcefully let html wait ever at the first click until the href is changed, then do the query on the server.
Thanks in advance.
I guess my current way could be not in the correct direction by using "onclick" to implement the idea.
You want something like this
$(function() {
//assume you tagged all anchors you want to do this for with class=adjustlink
$('a.adjustlink').click(function(e) {
var thisAnchor = $(this); //save reference for later use
//this will either be true (see below) or undefined (falsy)
if(thisAnchor.data('myapp.linkHasBeenTested')) {
return; //continue on
}
// Stop the link from being navigated (the default for this event)
e.preventDefault();
//I'm assuming this is fetched as text but could just as well be JSON or anything else
$.get('/LinkAdjustment/', thisAnchor.attr('href')).done(function(result) {
thisAnchor.attr('href', result); //set the href
thisAnchor.data('myapp.linkHasBeenTested', true);
thisAnchor.trigger('click');
});
});
});
As an interesting side-note. You might be attempting to do something similar to the way REST is intended to be done. You might consider, first fetching a resource that will tell you up-front what the correct links are.
I would recomend setting the href to # initially. And in your getFile, set the href to the correct value and then programatically click the 'a' on success of your ajax
You will need to find the element to do this. It can either be done by setting an id and then using document.getElementById(), or would be easier to do do this using Jquery selectors, and it even has a .click() you can call after.
If you want persist with this flow make your ajax call synchronous, it will forcibly wait.
But this flow is not suggested, I would have rather updated these hrefs on page load or would have set a default url to my server page, which would then redirect to right log file

jQuery code repeating problem

I have a piece of code in jQuery that I use to get the contents of an iFrame after you click a link and once the content is completed loading. It works, but I have a problem with it repeating - at least I think that is what it is doing, but I can't figure out why or how.
jQuery JS:
$(".pageSaveButton").bind("click",function(){
var theID = $(this).attr("rel");
$("#fileuploadframe").load(function(){
var response = $("#fileuploadframe").contents().find("html").html();
$.post("siteCreator.script.php",
{action:"savePage",html:response, id: theID},
function(data){
alert(data);
});
});
});
HTML Links ( one of many ):
<a href="templates/1000/files/index.php?pg=0&preview=false"
target="fileuploadframe" class="pageSaveButton" rel="0">Home</a>
So when you click the link, the page that is linked to is opened into the iframe, then the JS fires and waits for the content to finish loading and then grabs the iframe's content and sends it to a PHP script to save to a file. I have a problem where when you click multiple links in a row to save multiple files, the content of all the previous files are overwritten with the current file you have clicked on. I have checked my PHP and am pretty positive the fault is with the JS.
I have noticed that - since I have the PHP's return value alerted - that I get multiple alert boxes. If it is the first link you have clicked on since the main page loaded - then it is fine, but when you click on a second link you get the alert for each of the previous pages you clicked on in addition to the expected alert for the current page.
I hope I have explained well, please let me know if I need to explain better - I really need help resolving this. :) (and if you think the php script is relevant, I can post it - but it only prints out the $_POST variables to let me know what page info is being sent for debugging purposes.)
Thanks ahead of time,
Key
From jQuery .load() documentation I think you need to change your script to:
$(".pageSaveButton").bind("click",function(){
var theID = $(this).attr("rel");
var lnk = $(this).attr("href");//LINK TO LOAD
$("#fileuploadframe").load(lnk,
function(){
//EXECUTE AFTER LOAD IS COMPLETE
var response = $("#fileuploadframe").contents().find("html").html();
$.post("siteCreator.script.php",
{
action:"savePage",
html:response,
id: theID
},
function(data){alert(data);}
);
});
});
As for the multiple responses, you can use something like blockui to disable any further clicks till the .post call returns.
This is because the line
$("#fileuploadframe").load(function(){
Gets executed every time you press a link. Only add the loadhandler to the iframe on document.ready.
If a user has the ability via your UI to click multiple links that trigger this function, then you are going to run into this problem no matter what since you use the single iframe. I would suggest creating an iframe per save process, that why the rendering of one will not affect the other.
