how to get selected item from combo box using javascript - javascript

Need to retrieve selected item from the select element using javascript.
<select id="selected">
<option value="Default Request" selected disabled>Default Request Service</option>
<option value="1">Anti-Virus Support and Services</option>
<option value="2">CSB - Request and Report Forms</option>
<option value="3">Email Support and Services</option>
<option value="4">Hardware Support and Services</option>
</select>
<input id="selected_display" type="text" value="" name="subject">

solution for you is in next code. You got 2 functions. First is for get value or text of selected item. second is used for set value to input
you have to add listener on on select tag and wait for change of the selected option
Enjoy!
function getOption(selector) {
return {
val: $(selector + ' option:selected').attr('value'),
text: $(selector + ' option:selected').text()
}
};
function setItem(toSelector, value) {
jQuery(toSelector).val(value);
}
var output;
jQuery('#selected').on('change', function(){
output = getOption('#selected');
setItem('#selected_display', output.val); //change to output.text to show text of selected output
});
https://jsfiddle.net/v4fwxeeu/3/

Maybe you want to try it with PHP:
<form Name="xxxx" class="xxxx" method="post" Action="xxxx">
<select id="selected" Name="selected>
<option value="Default Request" selected disabled>Default Request Service</option>
<option value="1">Anti-Virus Support and Services</option>
<option value="2">CSB - Request and Report Forms</option>
<option value="3">Email Support and Services</option>
<option value="4">Hardware Support and Services</option>
</select>
</form>
With PHP you can get the value of "selected" with:
<?php
$selected = $_POST['selected'];
echo $selected;
?>

Add multiple select options to url paramter with Javascript

I'm looking to have a blog style page with multiple drop down filters. When a user changes I want to do an onChange event adding a parameter to the URL which would then adjust the content. I'd love to do this with AJAX but I want to get this bit functioning first.
Here is the basic form:
<form action="" method="GET">
<select name="channel">
<option value="" selected>Choose Channel</option>
<option value="facebook-ads">Facebook ads</option>
<option value="instagram-ads">Instagram ads</option>
</select>
<select name="brand">
<option value="" selected>Choose Brand</option>
<option value="brand-1">brand 1</option>
</select>
</form>
When it was one selet I just used the inline onchange event.
I'm looking for the url to change to an example like this:
exampleurl.com/blog/?channel=facebook-ads&brand=brand-1
I want to be able to have a script that would allow either one or both to be added to the URL when the value is selected. I don't want to use a submit button.
So if there is already a parameter in the URL and the user selects a value from the other dropdown, then that parameter would be added to the URL and won't remove the other value.
Really hoping someone can help me with this as after a day of searching and trying, I'm still no further.
Simple solution for your needs:
<form action="" method="GET" id="myForm">
<select name="channel" id="0" onChange="changeURL(0)">
<option value="" selected disabled>Choose Channel</option>
<option value="facebook-ads">Facebook ads</option>
<option value="instagram-ads">Instagram ads</option>
</select>
<select name="brand" id="1" onChange="changeURL(1)">
<option value="" selected disabled>Choose Brand</option>
<option value="brand-1">brand 1</option>
<option value="brand-2">brand 2</option>
<option value="brand-3">brand 3</option>
</select>
</form>
<p id="test"></p>
<script>
var filters = [,]; // create an array with empty values (only 2 in this case)
function changeURL(a) {
var yourUrl = "https://yourdomain.com"; // your url
filters[a] = document.getElementById(a).value; // set the value of the selected filter inside the array
var preFilter = "?"; // blank url will need a "?" to start with your filters
for(var i=0; i<filters.length; i++) {
aName = document.getElementById(i).name; // get the name of the filter
yourUrl += preFilter + aName + "=" + filters[i];
preFilter = "&";
}
document.getElementById("test").innerHTML = yourUrl; // test output of the new url
}
</script>

How to send a value from a select to an input text in html using javascript?

I am trying to send a value to an based on a selection from a dropdown list such as . I want to fetch the value of possiblePhone.id and send it to .
<script>
function copyTextValue() {
var text1 = document.getElementById("source").value;
document.getElementById("destination").value = text1;
}
</script>
<div>
<select th:field="${possiblePhones}">
<option value="0">select phone</option>
<option id="source" onselect="copyTextValue()"
th:each="possiblePhone : ${possiblePhones}"
th:value="${possiblePhone.id}"
th:text="${possiblePhone.model}"></option>
</select>
</div>
<td><input type="text" id="destination"> </td>
For example, if "Samsung" is selected then "1" should be send to the input field and so on. Actually, i do not get any output.
<select id="source" onchange="copyTextValue()">
<option value="0">select phone</option>
<option value="1">samsung</option>
<option value="2">something</option>
</select>
The id="source" attribute should be in <select> element, also change onselect to onchange and move it to <select> element too.
Codepen: https://codepen.io/anon/pen/WVxLpz
You can achieve this by setting the listener to the select element and then query the selected option value.
I made a minimal example with two brands:
<script>
function copyTextValue() {
var e = document.getElementById("select");
var val = e.options[e.selectedIndex].value;
document.getElementById("destination").value = val;
}
</script>
<div>
<select onchange="copyTextValue()" id="select">
<option value="0">select phone</option>
<option value="1">Brand 1</option>
<option value="2">Brand 2</option>
</select>
</div>
<td><input type="text" id="destination"> </td>
one of the simple thing you have to observe here is that you have to capture the event when the dropdown is selected, and pass the current dropdown reference to your method.
<script>
function copyTextValue(selectedOption) {
if(selectedOption.selectedIndex <= 0){
document.getElementById("destination").value = '';
return;
}
var selectedOptionValue = selectedOption.value;
document.getElementById("destination").value = selectedOptionValue;
}
</script>
<div>
<select onChange="copyTextValue(this);">
<option value="0">select phone</option>
<option value="1">select first phone</option>
<option value="2">select second phone</option>
<option value="3">select third phone</option>
<option value="4">select fourth phone</option>
</select>
</div>
<td><input type="text" id="destination"> </td>
here you are also trying to avoid to pass any value to the textbox when the first element is selected. #kryptur's answer is also correct, but this is simpler.
You're using Thymeleaf. For these you to create a form to send you data to the server.
Follow this link for documentation for your exact problems.
https://www.thymeleaf.org/doc/tutorials/2.1/thymeleafspring.html#creating-a-form
As Frameworks like Thymeleaf usually store state on the server which means you update server first - and then your UI gets updated.
what value return is the value of the select field what you need to do is get the text of selected option i.e
function copyTextValue() {
var selectNode = document.getElementById("source");
enter code here
document.getElementById("destination").value =
selectNode .options[selectNode .selectedIndex].textContent;
}

how can i store two info on a single select and call them in separate textbox HTML/JS

<span id="s_home_country">
<select name="Home Country" id="home_country">
<option value="Select one" selected="selected">Select one</option>
<option value="h1">Home1</option>
<option value="h2">Home2</option>
<option value="h3">Home3</option>
<option value="h4">Home4</option>
</select>
</span>
and I have another data that i want to incorporate, when Home1 is selected, I want this to show 21-dec into another textbox automatically. and so on..
var Home_country = [
"21-Dec",
"01-Jan",
"01-Jan",
"01-Jan",
];
You could use an object and an event listener.
var home_country = {
"h1":"21-Dec",
"h2":"01-Jan",
"h3":"01-Jan",
"h4":"01-Jan",
};
var selectbox = document.getElementById('home_country');
var textbox = document.getElementById('home_country_date');
selectbox.addEventListener('change', function(e){
textbox.value = home_country[this.value]
})
<span id="s_home_country">
<select name="Home Country" id="home_country">
<option value="Select one" selected="selected">Select one</option>
<option value="h1">Home1</option>
<option value="h2">Home2</option>
<option value="h3">Home3</option>
<option value="h4">Home4</option>
</select>
</span>
<input type="text" id="home_country_date">
Please find below snippet just add another attribute data-attr1 and on change of select list find selected option and get its attribute with name data-attr1 and pass attribute's value to textbox
$("#home_country").on("change",function(){
$(".txtvalue").val($(this).find("option:selected").attr("data-attr1"));
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<span id="s_home_country">
<select name="Home Country" id="home_country">
<option value="Select one" selected="selected">Select one</option>
<option data-attr1="21-Dec" value="h1">Home1</option>
<option data-attr1="01-Dec" value="h2">Home2</option>
<option data-attr1="02-Dec" value="h3">Home3</option>
<option data-attr1="03-Dec" value="h4">Home4</option>
</select>
</span>
<input type="text" class="txtvalue" />
Add an event listener to your select input which outputs the relevant value from your array when an option is selected:
var el = document.getElementById('home_country');
var textbox = document.getElementById('your_textbox_el');
el.addEventListener('change', function(e){
if (e.target.value == 'h1') {
textbox.value = Home_country[0];
} else if (e.target.value == 'some other condition') {
// do something else
}
}
Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you can just put the values of the Home_country array inside the value properties of the options like so:
<span id="s_home_country">
<select name="Home Country" id="home_country">
<option value="Select one" selected="selected">Select one</option>
<option value="21-Dec">Home1</option>
<option value="01-Jan">Home2</option>
<option value="01-Jan">Home3</option>
<option value="01-Jan">Home4</option>
</select>
</span>
Now, when you do get the value of your select element, it will be the value in the array that you gave.

jquery form only passing first select box values on submit

I'm new posting here, have visited several times over the years to read every ones ideas.
My issue is I have a form with 2 select boxes, second one populated with values upon selection in the first. The second holds a url value which you got to upon submit.
This function works perfectly using the onchange but on submit only the first of the second select list urls work. I can swap them but only the first works, all the others only pass the primary url followed by a crosshatch '#'.
<script>
$(document).ready(function($){
$("#category").change(function() {
$('select[name="product"]').removeAttr("name").hide();
$("#" + $(this).val()).show().attr("name", "product");
});
/* ' This works on all
$(".product").change(function() {
document.location = $(this).val();
});
*/
/* this only passes url on first product option list else passes opening url + #*/
$('#discover').submit(function() {
document.location = $(".product").val();
return false;
});
});
</script>
<div id="discover-box">
<form id="discover" method="post">
<fieldset>
<p class="category">
<label class="title">Category:</label>
<select id="category" name="category">
<option value="#" selected="selected">Choose category</option>
<option value="accommodation">Accommodation</option>

</select>
<p><label>Sub-Category:</label>

<option value="#" selected="selected">Choose sub-category</option>

<option value="explore_category.asp?o=5">Caves & Sinkholes</option>

<option value="explore_category.asp?o=7">Walks & Drives</option>
<option value="explore_category.asp?o=8">Kanawinka Geotrail</option>
<option value="explore_category.asp?o=9">Retail</option>

</select>
</p>
<p class="buttons">
<input type="image" src="images/submit-red.png" Value="submit">
</p>
</fieldset>
</form>
</div>
because $(".product").val(); will find first occurrence of DOM having class product so in any case it will fetch first one... u can do this using
$('#discover').submit(function() {
document.location = $('select[name="product"]').val();
return false;
});
Open Fiddler (fiddler2.com) and watch the post go past. I find that generally when more than one control on a page uses the same name, the browser actually passes all of them, but the server-side framework expecting each post parameter to be unique, ignores all but the last one.
when you submit , you have only one select box with attribute name ,so you can select the selected value by that attribute
$('#discover').submit(function() {
document.location = $('select[name="product"]').val();
return false;
});

Can't get jquery to set value of select input when value of first select changes

I'm trying to update the value of a select input when I change the value of another select input. I cannot get anything to happen on the page and want to make sure I don't have a syntax error or some other dumb thing in this code.
<div class="group">
<div class="inputs types">
<strong style="font-size:13px;">Category:</strong>
<select name="id" id="ctlJob">
<option value="1">Automotive</option>
<option value="2">Business 2 Business</option>
<option value="3">Computers</option>
<option value="4">Education</option>
<option value="5">Entertainment & The Arts</option>
<option value="6">Food & Dining</option>
<option value="7">Government & Community</option>
<option value="8">Health & Beauty</option>
<option value="9">Home & Garden</option>
<option value="10">Legal & Financial Services</option>
<option value="11">Professional Services</option>
<option value="12">Real Estate</option>
<option value="13">Recreation & Sports</option>
<option value="14">Retail Shopping</option>
<option value="15">Travel & Lodging</option>
</select>
<select name="type" id="ctlPerson"></select>
</div>
</div>
<script>
$(function() {
$("#ctlJob").change(function() {
//Get the current value of the select
var val = $(this).val();
$('#ctlPerson').html('<option value="123">ascd</option>');
});
});
</script>
Try using append instead:
$(function() {
$("#ctlJob").change(function() {
//Get the current value of the select
var val = $(this).val();
var ctl = $('#ctlPerson').append('<option value="123">'+val+'</option>')[0].options;
ctl.selectedIndex = ctl.length-1;
});
});
http://jsfiddle.net/J69q8/
I think you also need to set the 'selected' property. Add
$('#ctlPerson option[value="123"]').attr('selected', 'selected');
to the end of the script. You are currently adding the option to the select list, but are not changing the select list to show it.
<div id="test">
<select name="sel" id="sel">
<option name="1" id="1" value="1">Automotive</option>
<option name="2" id="1 value="2">Business 2 Business</option>
<option name="3" id="1 value="3">Computers</option>
</select>
<select name="sel2" id="sel2"></select>
</div>
<script>
$("#sel").change(function() {
var val = $(this).val();
$('#sel2').html('<option value="1">NEW</option>');
)};
</script>
this works fine for what you need to do.
it's something like what you have
