jQuery Mobile: Navigation does not open after page change - javascript

In my jQuery Mobile project I have an element #sidebar with a toggle icon.
In my base file, just under the #sidebar div I use the following code:
Toggle sidebar
<div id="sidebar"> ... </div>
$('#toggle-sidebar').on('click', function() {
$('#sidebar').toggleClass('visible');
});
When my page loads for the first time, toggling works perfectly fine. However, when I change pages via my main navigation the toggling does not work anymore. I put an alert inside the click function and realized that AFTER page change the alert gets executed multiple times, namely as many times as I changed the page before.
The toggling works again when I move to the other page by entering the URL in my browser and loading the page.
How can I solve this problem?

If the alert executes many times on click after changing the page it may suggest that you have new click event listener bound on every page change. Try to unbind the click event listeners on that element before binding your click listener, to avoid such situation. Sth like that:
$('#toggle-sidebar').off('click');
$('#toggle-sidebar').on('click', function() {
$('#sidebar').toggleClass('visible');
});
It may resolve the issue.
You may also take a look at jQuery event namespaces https://api.jquery.com/event.namespace/. And add namespace to your click event so it won't unbind other click events on that element that may possibly appear in the code someday.

How to trigger my javascript pop up form with WordPress navigation link?

I've created a javascript pop up contact form, how do I trigger this after clicking a WordPress navigation item?
I have already tried the following code which works fine. However, after 1 second it loads the page which I've set the nav item to in WordPress.
document.getElementById('menu-item-177').addEventListener("click", function() {
document.querySelector('.bg-modal').style.display = "flex";
$('body').css('overflow','hidden')
});
I tried deleting the page, but obviously the nav link disappears. I also tried removing the menu item in the Menu settings of WordPress, same outcome.
I somehow need to block the page loading when the nav link is clicked. Is there a way round this?
Make sure that you are selecting the <a href=".. anchor element and listen for the click on that. I see that you have jQuery loaded in, so it might be good to just use that, or don't use it at all.
In your click event listener you listen for a click to happen. Whenever this click happens the function in the listener will be called. This function exposes some information about the event in the Event object. You'll see this in other pieces of code named e, evt, event or something else to refer to this Event object.
The Event object has a method called Event.preventDefault() which stops the browser from executing any kind of behavior that is linked to that element. Like navigating with an <a> tag. See why it is important to know what element you are clicking on? By adding that you can add your own behavior. See the example below.
$('#menu-item-177 > a').on('click', function(event) {
event.preventDefault(); // Prevents default navigation behavior.
$('.bg-modal').css('display', 'flex');
$('body').css('overflow', 'hidden');
});

jQuery link instead of button trigger

So, i have this code snippet that opens a modal:
<button id="trigger-overlay" class="order">Open Overlay</button>
Now, i wanted to include it in Wordpress menu, but i cant add button tag there, so i added:
Open Overlay
And i am using jquery to add a ID to that link, like this:
$('.order').attr('id','trigger-overlay');
ID is added, but link doesnt open anything, aka, it links to "#" instead of opening a modal...
How could i fix this to make it work?
Thanks!
This thing may causing due to events binging order. So, your code $('.order').attr('id','trigger-overlay'); is executing right after click's binding event (I think that event looks like this one: $('#trigger-overlay').click(function() { ... });.
If you have ability to change that binding, please use jquery.on method: http://api.jquery.com/on/
So that code will looks like: $(document).on('click', '#trigger-overlay', function() { ... });.
Also you can just move $('.order').attr('id','trigger-overlay'); above the script with that event binding.
Based on your
<button id="trigger-overlay" class="order>Open Overlay</button>
I'm not sure how you got a modal to trigger, since it is not connected to an event handler like:
<button onclick="turnOverlayOn()">Demo Button</button>
In this case, there would be a function that targets the overlay/modal and turns its CSS display property from none to block or inline-block (however you would like to display it):
var turnOverlayOn = function () {
$('targetOverlayId').css('display','block')
}
I suggest focusing on attaching an onClick event that triggers a function that does what you want to make the overlay appear.
The function used to turn the overlay off could be:
var turnOverlayOff = function () {
$('targetOverlayId').css('display','none')
}
You could attach this to a different anchor tag or button to turn the overlay off.
Note: the event should work the same for an anchor tag as it does for a button.
In my understanding you want to trigger the button click event. Using the a tag with class order.
try
jQuery(document).on('click','.order',function(){
jQuery('#trigger-overlay').click();
});
You can trigger the click event using jquery. Since I have no knowledge of your DOM structure jQuery(document).on('click','.order',function().. will work even if your elements are dynamic (added to the DOM after the script execution) because the click event is bind to the document.
NOTE:
When using wordpress always use jQuery instead of $ to avoid conflicts.

calling js function works only for the first time on jquery mobile

on jquery mobile web app I'm calling js function on close button. That js function close it's callers div parent.
That works fine, but problem is that I have multiple close buttons and this function works perfectly first time,
after that onclick doesnt work. It doesnt enter into js function.
I tried to put js function at very bottom of my _Layout.cshtml page but it doesnt change anything.
update
<script type="text/javascript">
$('#closeTable').click(function () {
$(this).parent().hide();
});
</script>
<div id="closeTable"></div>
Your problem is originating from the fact that you're using an ID to add event listeners to. In your JS, you have this line:
$('#closeTable').click(function () { ...
This line attaches a click event handler to the div with ID closeTable. Since there can only be one element with this ID, once it's hidden the user can't click it again and so the function won't be executed again.
If you have multiple close buttons as you say, you should instead use a class selector to attach handlers:
$(".closeTable").click(function() { ...
This will instead attach a listener to every element with class closeTable. This means that when any of them are clicked the function will execute, so it will work multiple times.
Hope this helps.

jQuery mobile automatic click/tab bug on next page in iOS7

I'm binding my tab events like this:
$('#submit').on("tap", function(){
$("body").pagecontainer("change", "#page-2");
});
My Problem is that the tab event fires automatically on the same position on the next page.
So when I got 2 buttons on the same positions on two different pages and I click/tab on the first button, the view slides to the next page and the event fires on the second button too.
This is only happening in iOS7. Any idea what i'm doing wrong?
(jQuery mobile version 1.4.2)
No idea if this will solve your problem or not, but you should probably be accepting an event parameter and preventing the default action if the click target is a button in a form or an anchor tag. You might also want to prevent the event from bubbling up by using stopPropagation. Depending on the underlying element you may actually be seeing the effect of the default action for that element or getting a full page refresh. That might have the appearance of the other action being invoked.
$('#submit').on("tap", function(e){
e.preventDefault();
e.stopPropagation(); // and also maybe prevent the event from bubbling up
$("body").pagecontainer("change", "#page-2");
});

Locating an element in a 'Facebox' box

Heres my link:
http://tinyurl.com/6j727e
If you click on the link in test.php, it opens in a modal box which is using the jquery 'facebox' script.
I'm trying to act upon a click event in this box, and if you view source of test.php you'll see where I'm trying to loacte the link within the modal box.
$('#facebox .hero-link').click(alert('click!'));
However, it doesn't detect a click and oddly enough the click event runs when the page loads.
The close button DOES however have a click event built in that closes the box, and I suspect my home-grown click event is being prevented somehow, but I can't figure it out.
Can anyone help? Typically its the very last part of a project and its holding me up, as is always the way ;)
First, the reason you're getting the alert on document load is because the #click method takes a function as an argument. Instead, you passed it the return value of alert, which immediately shows the alert dialog and returns null.
The reason the event binding isn't working is because at the time of document load, #facebox .hero-link does not yet exist. I think you have two options that will help you fix this.
Option 1) Bind the click event only after the facebox is revealed. Something like:
$(document).bind('reveal.facebox', function() {
$('#facebox .hero-link').click(function() { alert('click!'); });
});
Option 2) Look into using the jQuery Live Query Plugin
Live Query utilizes the power of jQuery selectors by binding events or firing callbacks for matched elements auto-magically, even after the page has been loaded and the DOM updated.
jQuery Live Query will automatically bind the click event when it recognizes that Facebox modified the DOM. You should then only need to write this:
$('#facebox .hero-link').click(function() { alert('click!'); });
Alternatively use event delegation
This basically hooks events to containers rather than every element and queries the event.target in the container event.
It has multiple benefits in that you reduce the code noise (no need to rebind) it also is easier on browser memory (less events bound in the dom)
Quick example here
jQuery plugin for easy event delegation
P.S event delegation is pencilled to be in the next release (1.3) coming very soon.
