I need to get today's date -30 days but in the format of: "2016-06-08"
I have tried setDate(date.getDate() - 30); for -30 days.
I have tried date.toISOString().split('T')[0] for the format.
Both work, but somehow cannot be used together.

setDate() doesn't return a Date object, it returns the number of milliseconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC. You need separate calls:
var date = new Date();
date.setDate(date.getDate() - 30);
var dateString = date.toISOString().split('T')[0]; // "2016-06-08"

You're saying that those two lines worked for you and your problem is combining them. Here is how you do that:
var date = new Date();
date.setDate(date.getDate() - 30);
document.getElementById("result").innerHTML = date.toISOString().split('T')[0];
<div id="result"></div>
If you really want to subtract exactly 30 days, then this code is fine, but if you want to subtract a month, then obviously this code doesn't work and it's better to use a library like moment.js as other have suggested than trying to implement it by yourself.

Please note that you would be better to use something like moment.js for this rather than reinventing the wheel. However a straight JS solution without libraries is something like:
var date = new Date();
date.setDate(date.getDate() - 30);
sets date to 30 days ago. (JS automatically accounts for leap years and rolling over months less than 30 days, and into the previous year)
now just output it like you want (gives you more control over the output). Note we are prepending a '0' so that numbers less than 10 are 0 prefixed
var dateString = date.getFullYear() + '-' + ("0" + (date.getMonth() + 1)).slice(-2) + '-' + ("0" + date.getDate()).slice(-2)

// Format date object into a YYYY-MM-DD string
const formatDate = (date) => (date.toISOString().split('T')[0]);
const currentDate = new Date();
// Values in milliseconds
const currentDateInMs = currentDate.valueOf();
const ThirtyDaysInMs = 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24 * 30;

Today's date -30 days but get all days in this format: "YYYY-MM-DD":
var daysDate = [];
for(var i = 1; i<= 30; i++) {
var date = new Date();
date.setDate(date.getDate() - i);
daysDate.push(date.toISOString().split('T')[0]); // ["2021-02-05", "2021-02-04", ...]

Simply you can calculate in terms of timestamp
var date = new Date(); // Current date
console.log(date.toDateString())
var pre_date = new Date(date.getTime() - 30*24*60*60*1000);
// You will get the Date object 30 days earlier to current date.
console.log(pre_date.toDateString())
Here 30*24*60*60*1000 refers to time difference in miliseconds.

How to get date after n number of days in a date range?

Suppose I have a start date which is 3/Sep/2019 and end date 10/Sep/2019.
I want to get the date after 4 days from the starting date. So if my starting date is 3/sep/2019 I want to get 7/Sep/2019 but not 12/sep/2019 since this date comes after my end date.
How can I achieve this?
So far I'm getting dates after n number of dates like this:
var days = 7;
var date = new Date();
var res = date.setTime(date.getTime() + days * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000);
date = new Date(res);
alert(date);
var days = 7;
var date = new Date();
var res = date.setDate(date.getDate() + days);
This is how you get a day 7 days after the date you already have. It wraps to the next month when appropriate as well.
Try the function I wrote below:
function getFutureDate(daysAhead) {
const date = new Date();
date.setDate(date.getDate() + daysAhead);
return date

Increment JavasScript date object for next month when days are increased?

Is there a simple solution to auto increment the month of the date object when days are added via getDate?
I need to add 2 days to a user supplied date, for example if the user's entered value is 2014-11-16 it returns 2014-11-18.
I have this working in the below example, but the problem is if a user supplies a date at the end of the month, for example 2014-11-30 it will return 2014-11-32 (November only has 30 days) instead of rolling into the next month, it should be 2014-12-02.
It also does not increment to a new year as well.

You can create new Date objects based on the number of milliseconds since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC. Since the number of milliseconds in a minute, hour, day, week are set we can add a fixed amount to the current time in order to get a time in the future. We can forget about what day of the month, or year it is as it's inherent in the number of milliseconds that have passed since 1970.
This will keep adjust to days months and years correctly.
var numberOfDaysToIncrement = 7;
var offset = numberOfDaysToIncrement * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000;
var date = new Date();
var dateIncremented = new Date(date.getTime() + offset);

I am sure that a lot of people asked this question but when I checked the answers it seems to me that they are wrong that what I found
var startDate = new Date(Date.parse(startdate));
//The start date is right lets say it is 'Mon Jun 30 2014 00:00:00'

// the enddate in the console will be 'Wed Dec 31 1969 18:00:00' and that's wrong it should be 1 july
I know that .getDate() return from 1-31 but Does the browser or the javascript increase only the day without updating the month and the year ?
and in this case Should I write an algorithm to handle this ? or there is another way ?
Note that Date.getDate only returns the day of the month. You can add a day by calling Date.setDate and appending 1.
// Create new Date instance
var date = new Date()
// Add a day
date.setDate(date.getDate() + 1)
JavaScript will automatically update the month and year for you.

The Date constructor that takes a single number is expecting the number of milliseconds since December 31st, 1969.
Date.getDate() returns the day index for the current date object. In your example, the day is 30. The final expression is 31, therefore it's returning 31 milliseconds after December 31st, 1969.
A simple solution using your existing approach is to use Date.getTime() instead. Then, add a days worth of milliseconds instead of 1.
For example,
var dateString = 'Mon Jun 30 2014 00:00:00';
var startDate = new Date(dateString);
// seconds * minutes * hours * milliseconds = 1 day
var day = 60 * 60 * 24 * 1000;
var endDate = new Date(startDate.getTime() + day);

Please note that this solution doesn't handle edge cases related to daylight savings, leap years, etc. It is always a more cost effective approach to instead, use a mature open source library like moment.js to handle everything.
There is issue of 31st and 28th Feb with getDate() I use this function getTime and 24*60*60*1000 = 86400000
Use this function:

Just for the sake of adding functions to the Date prototype:
In a mutable fashion / style:
Date.prototype.addDays = function(n) {
this.setDate(this.getDate() + n);
};
// Can call it tomorrow if you want
Date.prototype.nextDay = function() {
this.addDays(1);

Date.prototype.addMonths = function(n) {
this.setMonth(this.getMonth() + n);
};
Date.prototype.addYears = function(n) {

If you don't mind using a library, DateJS (https://github.com/abritinthebay/datejs/) would make this fairly easy. You would probably be better off with one of the answers using vanilla JavaScript however, unless you're going to take advantage of some other DateJS features like parsing of unusually-formatted dates.
If you're using DateJS a line like this should do the trick:
Date.parse(startdate).add(1).days();
You could also use MomentJS which has similar features (http://momentjs.com/), however I'm not as familiar with it.
The below will add a single day to a current time. I believe this will handle daylight saving times, etc.

I have the following script which returns the next day:
function today(i)
{
var today = new Date();
var dd = today.getDate()+1;
var mm = today.getMonth()+1;

By using this:
today.getDate()+1;
I am getting the next day of the month (for example today would get 16).
My problem is that this could be on the last day of the month, and therefore end up returning 32/4/2014
Is there a way I can get the guaranteed correct date for the next day?
You can use:
var tomorrow = new Date();
tomorrow.setDate(tomorrow.getDate()+1);
For example, since there are 30 days in April, the following code will output May 1:
var day = new Date('Apr 30, 2000');
console.log(day); // Apr 30 2000
var nextDay = new Date(day);
nextDay.setDate(day.getDate() + 1);
console.log(nextDay); // May 01 2000

Using just JavaScript's Date object (no libraries):

Using MomentJS:
var today = moment();
var tomorrow = moment(today).add(1, 'days');
(Beware that add modifies the instance you call it on, rather than
returning a new instance, so today.add(1, 'days') would modify today.
That's why we start with a cloning op on var tomorrow = ....)
Using DateJS, but it hasn't been updated in a long time:
var today = new Date(); // Or Date.today()
var tomorrow = today.add(1).day();
Using Date object guarantees that. For eg if you try to create April 31st :
new Date(2014,3,31) // Thu May 01 2014 00:00:00
Please note that it's zero indexed, so Jan. is 0, Feb. is 1 etc.

Get time difference in javascript ISO format

I have a datetime in ISO format i.e.
2012-06-26T01:00:44Z
I want to get the time difference from current time. How can I achieve this using javascript or javascript library Date.js or jquery
This will give you the difference in milliseconds, you can then format it as you want
var diff = new Date("2012-06-26T01:00:44Z") - new Date();
Try this:
var someDate = new Date("2012-06-26T01:00:44Z");
var now = new Date();
var one_day = 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24;
var diff = Math.ceil((someDate.getTime()-now .getTime())/(one_day))

You can obviously amend the one_day variable to get the difference in the unit you require.
I would suggest converting ISO format to something that works cross browser.
Try this,

If you need timestamp,
alert(new_date.getTime());
in order to format date you can use this function to get the desire format of the date and you can easily change the position of day , month and year.
