I hope i got a simple question for you here. I went through google and stackoverflow search section, but hadnt quite the luck with solution ideas on my problem.
My problem is following, i need a banner to change second class if the width of the picture should dropt below the width size of the document. Generally i would use media queries but since it alawys depends just on the size of the picture i dont know how else i can get this to work then with js or jquery.
I don't rly know why it dosn't work. I executed all the errors i got on the console of Chrome and everyone that appeared on my editor... I generally use only html and css and can edit already existing js and jqueries. But this here is one of few codes i wrote on my own and i am kinda stuck...
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.single-featured').resize(function(){
if ($('.single-featured').width() < $(document).width()) {
$('.single-featured').removeClass('thumb-vh');
$('.single-featured').addClass('thumb-auto');
}
else {
$('.single-featured').removeClass('thumb-auto');
$('.single-featured').addClass('thumb-vh');
}
});
});
I appreciate any kind of solutions or explenations on that matter.
A couple of things:
resize doesn't fire on individual elements, it fires on window, so $(window).resize(...), not $('.single-featured').resize(...).
To get the width of the window, you want $(window).width(), not $(document).width().
Side note: It's not a good idea to constantly re-query the DOM. Do the query only when the results may have changed, and then remember the result:
$(document).ready(function() {
$(window).resize(function() {
// ^^^^^^
var featured = $('.single-featured');
// ^^^^^^^^^^^^
if (featured.width() < $(window).width()) {
// ^^^^^^
featured.removeClass('thumb-vh');
featured.addClass('thumb-auto');
} else {
featured.removeClass('thumb-auto');
featured.addClass('thumb-vh');
}
});
});

Weird problem. I'm modifying shop template:
https://demo.themeisle.com/shop-isle/product-category/clothing/dresses/
At this moment when you hover product's picture there will show "add to cart" button. This is .
Under picture there is price
I prepared code:
var from = document.getElementsByClassName("woocommerce-Price-amount amount");
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery.each(from, function(i, el) {
jQuery(el.parentNode.parentNode).find(jQuery(".product-button-wrap")).append(el);
});
});
Nothing happens. This code work only if I set timeout:
setTimeout(function() {
var from = document.getElementsByClassName("woocommerce-Price-amount amount");
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery.each(from, function(i, el) {
jQuery(el.parentNode.parentNode).find(jQuery(".product-button-wrap")).append(el);
});
});
}, 10000);
Of course timeout it's not a solution. I was trying to find out minimal time to obtain best behavior but it's impossible. I have feeling that every browser (and version...) needs personalized time setting.
I thought that after 24-hour break I will get some brillant idea, but that doesn't work, no more ideas.
--- EDIT ---
OK, thanks for pointed mixed common js with jquery - I will correct that later.
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
var from = document.getElementsByClassName("woocommerce-Price-amount amount");
jQuery.each(from, function(i, el) {
jQuery(el.parentNode.parentNode).find(jQuery(".product-button-wrap")).append(el);
console.log(el);
});
});
That's logical that var from should be inside ready but this still doesn't work. No effect.
If I use in loop console.log it will return for me html code of el.
--- EDIT ---
Thanks. While testing I noticed something. I wanted append element .woocommerce-Price-amount.amount to element .product-button-wrap. But how can I do that if element .product-button-wrap isn't originally in source? This object is created dynamically (I don't know how).
-- EDIT --
OK. I checked JS files and found code adding to DOM .product-button-wrap so I putted my code there and now everything works. Thanks for help.
The problem is because you're running your code before the DOM has loaded. You need to retrieve the elements within the document.ready event handler.
Also note that you have an odd mix of native JS and jQuery methods. I'd suggest using one or the other, like this:
jQuery(function($) {
$('.woocommerce-Price-amount.amount').each(function() {
$(this).parent().parent().find('.product-button-wrap').append(this);
});
});
Also note that .parent().parent() should be replace by a single call to closest(), but I can't give you an exact example of that without seeing your HTML.
I have a (fairly simple) issue and I'm breaking my head over it.
The issue is pretty simple - scroll event won't fire (ever).
I'm writing this angular project, so I've tried the following:
angular.element($window).bind('scroll', ()=> {
console.log('scroll!');
if (!scope.scrollPosition) {
scope.scrollPosition = 0;
}
// Alerting for test cause wtf is going on
scope.boolChangeClass = this.pageYOffset > 600 ? alert(true) : alert(false);
scope.scrollPosition = this.pageYOffset;
scope.$apply();
}
);
but nothing happened. (assume $window is intact and that i'm using webpack etc.)
This example works great if I change the scroll to click. weird.
So I've tried vanilla~~!
window.addEventListener('scroll',function(){
console.log('test')
})
This attempt works on every other website except mine (gotta admit it's classic).
So - has anyone ever dealt with this and knows what's going on?
I assume that some other element is consuming this event at early stage thus not letting it bubble up. Yet this is just an assumption.'
Would love to understand this :)
=== EDIT ===
I've tried to see all the fired events using monitorEvents(window) (using Chrome) and I see every event that's being fire except the scroll..
Looks like it's the body element that is scrolling. Try adding the following code in the console.
document.body.addEventListener('scroll', function() {
console.log('test');
});
I tried to use this example to add a shrink-on-scroll navbar to a webpage, but when I copied their Javascript and CSS rules across to my document, it no longer worked. The shrink class is not added to my <nav> elements like it is on their demo. When I downloaded their demo code, it didn't work either, despite working in the online example.
This is the JavaScript I've used:
$(document).ready(function() {
$(window).scroll(function() {
if ($(document).scrollTop() > 50) {
$('nav').addClass('shrink');
} else {
$('nav').removeClass('shrink');
}
});
});
I have also tried using this script with the first (and last) lines removed, as is shown elsewhere in the example.
The only answer I can think of is that Chrome refuses to execute JavaScript on local files. Is this the case, or have I missed something?
make sure you include jquery into your html BEFORE your external js file , ex:
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
Though seems you have already figured out the problem - just a small suggestion is to try writing your code like this - it will look much better :)
$(window).scroll(function(){
var liveview = $(document).scrollTop();
if (liveview > 120) {
$("nav").addClass("shrink");
} else {
$("nav").removeClass("shrink");
}
});
This is probably basic to most reading, but I can't seem to figure it out.
I have a little test function that I want to execute if under a certain width. When the screen rotates or gets resized above that width, I want the function to cease to work. Here is some example code for simplicity sake.
enquire.register("screen and (max-width:500px)",{
match : function() {
$(".block .block-title").click(function(){
alert("Hello World!");
});
}
}).listen();
So if the page loads above 500px, it works as intended. Clicking won't execute. If the page loads at 500px or below, the click function executes. Only problem is that if you resize the viewport or change orientation to something above 500px, the function still executes. I'd like to be able to disable that.
The real world scenario I'm actually trying to do here is I have an un-ordered list of 4 items. Above a certain width they are displayed right away. If under a certain width, I just want to hide them and on click show them. I know there are a few ways to do it (.toggle(), .toggleClass("myclass"), etc).
I have done this a bunch of times but I always get caught with the entering / exiting break points and things not being reset, or working as intended. Usually it doesn't matter, but lately in some of my use cases it has mattered.
I know of the unmatch option but I'm not sure how to really kill the matched function above.
enquire.register("screen and (max-width:500px)",{
match : function() {
$(".block .block-title").click(function(){
alert("Hello World!");
});
},
{
unmatch : function() {
// what do I do here do kill above?
}
}
}).listen();
Any help would be appreciated. I am pretty sure it will help my current situation but will also help me expand my knowledge of enquire.js for other things.
Thanks.
edit: I forgot to mention... if you load the page under 500px, then resize or orientate wider then 500px, then go BACK under 500px, the click function won't work again.. which confuses me also. I basically was hoping it would work no matter what when under 500px, and not work at all when over 500px.
I'm the author of enquire.js, so hopefully I'll be able to help you ;-)
Basically, you want to add an event handler on match and remove event handler on unmatch. You seem to have the gist of how to do this above, but you've got the syntax a little wrong. Once the syntax is corrected it's just some jQuery knowledge to remove the click handler.
So let's look at how the syntax should be:
enquire.register("screen and (max-width:500px)", {
match: function() {
//match code here
},
unmatch: function() {
//unmatch code here
}
}).listen();
Notice that match and unmatch are part of a single object supplied to register.
Ideally you should be putting this in your document ready callback. To assign your click handler use jQuery's on method, as this allows you to use the off method to unassign:
$(".block .block-title").on("click", function() {
alert("hello");
});
$(".block .block-title").off("click");
This is great because you can even namespace your events, read up on the jQuery docs for more details on this. So to put it all together, we would have this:
$(document).ready(function() {
var $target = $(".block .block-title");
enquire.register("screen and (max-width:500px)", {
match: function() {
$target.on("click", function() {
alert("Hello World!");
});
},
unmatch: function() {
$target.off("click");
}
}).listen();
});
You can find a working example here: http://jsfiddle.net/WickyNilliams/EHKQj/
That should then be all you need :) Hope that helps!
I'm making a simple little website to apply a different formatting style to Reddit posts, I'm trying to add the infinite-scroll jQuery plugin but it doesn't do anything. I tried following the (very simple) instructions on the infinite-scroll page and when it didn't do anything I thought I must have entered something wrongly, but then I just copy/pasted the code from the Masonry/Infinite-Scroll example and it still didn't work. Masonry is working perfectly (finally) but I just can't figure out what is wrong with infinite-scroll. I understand the basics of jQuery and JavaScript, but obviously not as much as most of you people, so could you please help me out and let me know what is wrong? My site is live at reddit.ymindustries.com.
Thanks heaps, you guys have rarely failed me so far.

EDIT: If there aren't enough images to fill up the page on the homepage, visit reddit.ymindustries.com/r/aww for more images.
EDIT 2: I believe I located the issue, it is described here: https://github.com/paulirish/infinite-scroll/issues/5
Now to figure out a fix...
EDIT 3: Added a little bit of a hack in to make it sort of work, but it just seems to loop the second page endlessly now. Hmm...
I think your problem is actually css. Make your page longer that client area height. add more images to $container
Point is, botom edge of your $container need to pass bottom of window so scroll event fires so infinite scroll can react on this event and calculate weather or not edge is reached
BTW, in same cases, for instance, when I shrink my window, the example you set is working.
=== UPDATE ===
I found some time to play with infinitescroll and here is final working script, just set pathParse method in your script
$(function () {
var $container = $('#itemContainer');
$container.imagesLoaded(function () {
$container.masonry({
itemSelector:'.item'
});
});
$container.infinitescroll({
navSelector:'.navigation', // selector for the paged navigation
nextSelector:'.navigation #next', // selector for the NEXT link (to page 2)
itemSelector:'.item', // selector for all items you'll retrieve
bufferPx:40,
debug:true,
columnWidth:function (containerWidth) {
return containerWidth / 5;
},
loading:{
finishedMsg:'No more pages to load.',
img:'http://i.imgur.com/6RMhx.gif'
},
pathParse: function(path,page){
return $(this.nextSelector).attr("href");
}
},
// trigger Masonry as a callback
function (newElements) {
// hide new items while they are loading
var $newElems = $(newElements).css({ opacity:0 });
// ensure that images load before adding to masonry layout
$newElems.imagesLoaded(function () {
// show elems now they're ready
$newElems.animate({ opacity:1 });
$container.masonry('appended', $newElems, true);
});
//console.log("test (never fired :( )");
}
);
});
Now, since your next link will not update by it self (http://reddit.ymindustries.com/?after=t3_yh4av), you need to change the callback to pull out last element from ajax response and change next link... could be something like this
function (newElements) {
// hide new items while they are loading
var $newElems = $(newElements).css({ opacity:0 });
// ensure that images load before adding to masonry layout
// ======> if query parameter after=... is caring filename then do this
var lastImageUrl= $newElements[$newElements.length-1].attr("src");
var lastFileName= lastImageUrl.substring(lastImageUrl.lastIndexOf("/") +1, lastImageUrl.lastIndexOf("."));
$("#next").attr("href", "http://reddit.ymindustries.com/?after="+lastFileName);
$newElems.imagesLoaded(function () {
// show elems now they're ready
$newElems.animate({ opacity:1 });
$container.masonry('appended', $newElems, true);
});
//console.log("test (never fired :( )");
}
You also need to take care of wich version of infinite-scroll your using since if you use the ones that comes with masonry/isotope (version 2.0b2.110713), both need a little hack in order to call the function and not use the predefined array:
//old code, to be changed (line 489)
desturl = path.join(opts.state.currPage);
// new code
desturl = (typeof path === 'function') ? path(opts.state.currPage) : path.join(opts.state.currPage);
This is already fixed in the newer versions of infinite-scroll
I had the same problem with jQuery's "infinitescroll" and Masonry. You might just solve this by giving your page more initial items so that the plugin's scrolling detection kicks in.
In WordPress this is under the "Reading" settings. By default WordPress only opens 10 items at a time. You could increase that number to 100/page to be more sure the window will be full initially. I had some code here that was just horrible, turns out I just needed longer pages, not more code.
So it's difficult to test these plugins on large displays if you don't have enough images. Maybe the solution is to scale the images larger on large displays so you're more sure about getting your content below the fold.
If you think someone might get to your website with a really huge display, I'm not sure what the answer is other than showing more items/page and maybe adding $('#masonry').infinitescroll('retrieve'); to your footer to load an extra page just in case.
