I am using boomerang plugin to check web performance.
Following the code that used to get page load time.
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://yui.yahooapis.com/combo?3.1.1/build/yui/yui-base-min.js&3.1.1/build/oop/oop-min.js&3.1.1/build/yui/yui-later-min.js&3.1.1/build/event-custom/event-custom-base-min.js&3.1.1/build/querystring/querystring-stringify-simple-min.js&3.1.1/build/io/io-base-min.js"></script>
<script src="/js/boomerang.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="/js/plugins/rt.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="/js/plugins/bw.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="/js/plugins/navtiming.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
BOOMR.init({
BW: {
enabled: false,
cookie: 'HOWTO-BA'
},
RT: {
cookie: 'HOWTO-RT'
}
});
YUI().use("io-base", function(Y) {
var uri = "dynamic-content.txt?" + new Date().getTime();
var timer;
function complete(id, o) {
var html = "<p>\n" + o.responseText.replace(/^$/mg, '</p>\n<p>') + "\n</p>";
document.getElementById("dynamic-content").innerHTML = html;
if(timer) timer.loaded();
};
Y.on('io:complete', complete);
timer = BOOMR.requestStart("my-timer");
var request = Y.io(uri);
});
BOOMR.plugins.RT.setTimer("t_js", new Date().getTime() - t_pagestart).
startTimer("t_head");
</script>
script src="/pgr/js/howtos.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
BOOMR.plugins.RT.endTimer("t_howtojs").endTimer("t_body");
</script>
Here YUI that make separate ajax call and adds execrutiont ime in page load time. In my website there are many ajax calls on page load, those execution time I want to add in page load time.
But stuck how to use YIU with existing code.
My ajax call
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
$.ajax({
type : 'POST',
url : '/getdata/',
data : { sid:retSid},
dataType: 'JSON',
beforeSend: function(){
$('.blocker').show();
},
success : function(result) {
if(result.data)
{
....
}
});
});
You should use one of the SPA plugins to measure single page apps / AJAX apps. It would be better to ask your question on the boomerang support forum. We prefer keeping all discussion and issues in one place so that if a code change is required, we can reference the discussion via a git reference.
You can ask the question here: https://github.com/soasta/boomerang/issues

I'm trying to build a basic JQuery app which loads images from Flickr, adds them to an array of jQuery objects, sequentially adds them to the DOM, fades them in, and fades them out in a 3 second cycle. However, in my displayImage function, I cannot use .hide(), .fadeIn() or .fadeOut() because it throws an 'Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'fadeIn' of undefined' error. Here is my code, both the JS and the HTML:
var main = function(){
"use strict";
var url = "http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?tags=cats&format=json&jsoncallback=?";
//Creates the empty array of jQuery image objects
var images = [];
$.getJSON(url, function(flickrResponse){
flickrResponse.items.forEach(function (photo){
var $img = $("<img>").hide();
$img.attr("src", photo.media.m);
//Populates the images array with jQuery objects defined from the Flickr JSON request
images.push($img);
// $("main .photos").append($img);
// $img.fadeIn();
});
});
function displayImage(imgIndex) {
var $displayedImg = images[imgIndex];
$(".photos").fadeOut('slow');
$(".photos").empty();
$(".photos").append($displayedImg);
$displayedImg.fadeIn('slow');
//Function which recursively calls 'displayImage' every three seconds
setTimeout(function(){
imgIndex = imgIndex + 1;
displayImage(imgIndex);
}, 3000);
}
displayImage(0);
};
$(document).ready(main);
And
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="UTF-8">
<title>Flickr App</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="stylesheets/styles.css">
</head>
<body>
<header>
</header>
<main>
<div class = "photos">
</div>
</main>
<footer>
</footer>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-2.1.1.min.js"></script>
<script src="js/app.js"></script>
</body>
Any ideas what might be undefined? Note that the var $img = $("<img>").hide(); line in the $.getJSONrequest doesn't throw the undefined error!
Thanks very much!
EDIT:
I've also tried to make a synchronous request to fetch the JSON, to make sure it's loaded before the displayImage function is called, and still it throws the same errors:
var main = function(){
"use strict";
var url = "http://api.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?tags=cats&format=json&jsoncallback=?";
var images = [];
//THIS IS WHAT HAS CHANGED
$.ajax({url: url,
dataType: 'json',
async: false,
success: function(flickrResponse){
flickrResponse.items.forEach(function (photo){
var $img = $("<img>").hide();
$img.attr("src", photo.media.m);
images.push($img);
});
}});
function displayImage(imgIndex) {
var $displayedImg = images[imgIndex];
$(".photos").fadeOut('slow');
$(".photos").empty();
$(".photos").append($displayedImg);
$displayedImg.fadeIn('slow');
setTimeout(function(){
imgIndex = imgIndex + 1;
displayImage(imgIndex);
}, 3000);
}
displayImage(0);
};
$(document).ready(main);
You need to wait for the JSON to return before you try to displayImage(0). The JSON request is asynchronous, so your call to displayImage is happening before any JSON has been returned.
I recommend stepping through with a Javascript debugger to better understand what’s going on. You would see then that images is empty, and therefore $displayedImg is undefined.
I am new to JavaScript and Google BigQuery, so please forgive my ignorance. I am trying to write a javascript to collect data from one of the public databases on BigQuery. I found an answer to this at Obtaining BigQuery data from JavaScript code (the code for which I have pasted below) but when I saved the file as .html, replaced the client id and project number with mine, and tried to run it, I get the Authorize button and the page title. I click the Authorize button, and it disappears, but no query is run. Is there something else I was supposed to replace or is there something else I need to make this work? I saved the file as a .html, perhaps I should have saved it with a different extension?
I tried all three ways of creating a client id in the Google developers console and all gave me the same behavior.
I'm sure its just something silly that I am forgetting, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the code given by Ryan Boyd, which I am unable to get working properly(which is surely my fault):
<html>
<head>
<script src="https://apis.google.com/js/client.js"></script>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
google.load('visualization', '1', {packages: ['geochart']});
</script>
<script>
// UPDATE TO USE YOUR PROJECT ID AND CLIENT ID
var project_id = '605902584318';
var client_id = '605902584318.apps.googleusercontent.com';
var config = {
'client_id': client_id,
'scope': 'https://www.googleapis.com/auth/bigquery'
};
function runQuery() {
var request = gapi.client.bigquery.jobs.query({
'projectId': project_id,
'timeoutMs': '30000',
'query': 'SELECT state, AVG(mother_age) AS theav FROM [publicdata:samples.natality] WHERE year=2000 AND ever_born=1 GROUP BY state ORDER BY theav DESC;'
});
request.execute(function(response) {
console.log(response);
var stateValues = [["State", "Age"]];
$.each(response.result.rows, function(i, item) {
var state = item.f[0].v;
var age = parseFloat(item.f[1].v);
var stateValue = [state, age];
stateValues.push(stateValue);
});
var data = google.visualization.arrayToDataTable(stateValues);
var geochart = new google.visualization.GeoChart(
document.getElementById('map'));
geochart.draw(data, {width: 556, height: 347, resolution: "provinces", region: "US"});
});
}
function auth() {
gapi.auth.authorize(config, function() {
gapi.client.load('bigquery', 'v2', runQuery);
$('#client_initiated').html('BigQuery client initiated');
});
$('#auth_button').hide();
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<h2>Average Mother Age at First Birth in 2000</h2>
<button id="auth_button" onclick="auth();">Authorize</button>
<button id="query_button" style="display:none;" onclick="runQuery();">Run Query</button>
<div id="map"></div>
</body>
</html>
Update: I opened the Developer Tools in Chrome and found this error in the console:
Failed to execute 'postMessage' on 'DOMWindow': The target origin
provided ('file://') does not match the recipient window's origin
('null')
.
I tried editing in my Google Developer console as per these instructions: Google API in Javascript
Still same error.
Looks like you may need to add:
$('#query_button').show();
to the bottom of the auth() function
like so:
function auth() {
gapi.auth.authorize(config, function()
{
gapi.client.load('bigquery', 'v2', runQuery);
$('#client_initiated').html('BigQuery client initiated');
});
$('#auth_button').hide();
$('#query_button').show();
}
Searching for the error you got, I found this page:
Google API in Javascript
Based on the error you're receiving, my guess is that you either do not have your Javascript Origin configured properly on the Google API console you got your Client ID from, and/or you are trying to run your script from the file system instead of through a web server, even one running on localhost. The Google API client, near as I've been able to tell, does not accept authorization requests from the file system or any domain that has not been configured to request authorization under the supplied Client ID. --#citizenslave
It turns out it was a combination of things. I had the Javascript origin not configured properly, I didn't have all the scopes needed for my query, and I couldn't just open the html file in a browser, I needed to create an HTTP server.
So I changed the code to be:
<html>
<head>
<script src="https://apis.google.com/js/client.js"></script>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
google.load('visualization', '1', {packages: ['geochart']});
</script>
<script>
// UPDATE TO USE YOUR PROJECT ID AND CLIENT ID
var project_id = 'XXXXXXXXXXXX';
var client_id = 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.apps.googleusercontent.com';
var config = {
'client_id': client_id,
'scope': 'https://www.googleapis.com/auth/plus.login https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email https://www.googleapis.com/auth/bigquery'
};
function runQuery() {
var request = gapi.client.bigquery.jobs.query({
'projectId': project_id,
'timeoutMs': '30000',
'query': 'SELECT state, AVG(mother_age) AS theav FROM [publicdata:samples.natality] WHERE year=2000 AND ever_born=1 GROUP BY state ORDER BY theav DESC;'
});
request.execute(function(response) {
console.log(response);
var stateValues = [["State", "Age"]];
$.each(response.result.rows, function(i, item) {
var state = item.f[0].v;
var age = parseFloat(item.f[1].v);
var stateValue = [state, age];
stateValues.push(stateValue);
});
var data = google.visualization.arrayToDataTable(stateValues);
var geochart = new google.visualization.GeoChart(
document.getElementById('map'));
geochart.draw(data, {width: 556, height: 347, resolution: "provinces", region: "US"});
});
}
function auth() {
gapi.auth.authorize(config, function() {
gapi.client.load('bigquery', 'v2', runQuery);
$('#client_initiated').html('BigQuery client initiated');
});
$('#auth_button').hide();
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<h2>Average Mother Age at First Birth in 2000</h2>
<button id="auth_button" onclick="auth();">Authorize</button>
<button id="query_button" style="display:none;" onclick="runQuery();">Run Query</button>
<div id="map"></div>
</body>
</html>
I fixed my Google Javascript Origins url to be http://localhost:8888/ and my Redirect uri to be http://localhost:8888/oauth2callback, opened a command prompt to run this command from the directory of my html file:
python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8888
and then went to localhost:8888 in my browser and clicked my html file there.
Thanks so much for all the feedback!
It worked perfectly! Now to change the query for my purposes!
I have a website that loads content via jQuery. When loading all my javascript and css files needed for facebox. It I put a link on the initial page, it works fine. However, when changing the 'innerHTML' of one element, the same links do not function.
And I even tried putting the javascript & css files in the innerHTML and it still doesn't work! It loads up as a new page.
Please help!
Thanks

get_work.php
text (this link that doesn't work)
It doesn't work because that link does not have a listener attached to it. You can confirm this is your problem by adding this code after your ajax call (on success, after you have inserted the link into the document).
$('a[rel*=facebox]').facebox({
loadingImage : 'src/loading.gif',
closeImage : 'src/closelabel.png'
})
For jQuery template:
http://api.jquery.com/category/plugins/templates/
I want to be able to dynamically load the templates from a server, rather than predefining it on the page.
The demos I saw on the projects are using predefined templates. After some research I found out that it is possible.
I try doing this and it doesn't work:
<script src="child.html" type="text/x-jquery-tmpl"></script>
I tried doing this and it doesn't work:
$(function () {
$.get("child.html", function (data) {
//Add template
$.template("tmplChild", data);
});
//template binds before async call is done
$.tmpl("tmplChild").appendTo("body");
});
And finally, I have get it down to the following hack:
so.html (This is the main page):
<html>
<head>
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.3/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/jquery.templates/beta1/jquery.tmpl.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="so.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function () {
initTemplates(templateReady);
});
function templateReady() {
$.tmpl("tmplChild").appendTo("body");
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
child.html (This is the child template)
<h1>Child Loaded</h1>
so.js (This is my hack for ajaxly loading the js templates)
function initTemplates(callback) {
var templateUrl = "child.html";
var templateName = "tmplChild";
initTemplate(templateUrl, templateName, callback);
}
function initTemplate(url, name, callback) {
var opts =
{
type: "GET",
url: url,
dataType: ($.browser.msie) ? "text" : "xml",
success: function (data) {
xmlCallback(data, name, callback);
},
error: function (x) {
xmlCallback(x.responseText, name, callback);
}
}
$.ajax(opts);
}
function xmlCallback(data, name, callback) {
if (typeof data != "string") {
if (window.ActiveXObject) {
var str = data.xml;
data = str;
}
// code for Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, etc.
else {
var str = (new XMLSerializer()).serializeToString(data);
data = str;
}
}
//only takes strings!
$.template(name, data);
callback();
}
And here's what I don't like about it.
This doesn't work on Chrome
It seems like a lot of code just to load some template
I lost the ability to use $(document).ready(). I must now put all my code in this templateReady() method to be "template safe".
Is there a way around this?
Thanks,
Chi
Just load the template body as simple text and forget about putting it in a dummy <script> block. You can use $.tmpl(body, params) to populate the template and turn it into a string for appending to the DOM.
The whole thing with "not really script" <script> blocks is just a convenience useful in some situations.
edit — example:
$.get("/some/url/for/a/template", function(templateBody) {
var expandedTemplate = $.tmpl(templateBody, { param1: 0, param2: "Hello World" });
});
If the goal is to fetch a unique template each time you get data via ajax, then you might try fetching the template at the same time and include it in your data, that is if you have the luxury of modifying the returned object (anonymous object in .Net). Then you can store the template anywhere you want and you only need 1 ajax call for both the data and the template.

I'm trying to create a PHP chatroom script but I'm having a lot of trouble getting it to AutoRefresh
The content should automatically update to , how do you make it do that? I've been searching for almost an hour
I would take that PHP functionality you have and putting it in a sperate page that returns JSON. From there you can call that method using jQuery and the AJAX tools built in. Really simple. Start here for jQuery: http://api.jquery.com/category/ajax/
you'll need to set up a server side script that renders only the contents of the chat div and use ajax to grab that. it can be done with jquery quite easily:
In your html document:
<head>
...
<script src="/path/to/jquery.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>
var chatUpdateInterval = null;
function initChat() {
chatUpdateInterval = window.setInterval(updateChat, 5000); /* every 5 seconds */
}
function updateChat() {
$.ajax({
url: '/url/path/to/your/script.php'
,dataType: 'HTML'
,success: function(data, status, xhr){
$('#chat').append($(data).html());
}
});
}
$(document).ready(function(){
initChat();
});
</script>
...
</head>
<body>
<div id="chat">
please stand by while we're firing up the coal!
</div>
</body>
Note that this won't be really good, it's just a sample to get you started. you should look into jquery's $.ajax
