Remove specific HTML with jQuery on Tumblr Theme? - javascript

I'm trying to mimic the new Tumblr Text Post that removes blockquotes so all the important text is visible in a 250px text post without having to scroll. Of course Tumblr hasn't updated their entire code so blockquotes are still wrapped in custom themes.
Here's what I have so far:
http://01244235.tumblr.com/
I unwrapped the blockquote tag. Now I want to remove the links of the users who have commented.
I know there isn't a simple way of just unwrapping the entire thing until Tumblr updates their codebase. So I'm just going to remove the links entirely.
So is there a way to pick up a specific part of the code and remove it? I don't want to just remove href links because the actual text post might have some in it.
So I want to remove every <p><a class="tumblr_blog" href=""></a></p> from the post.
Any ideas?

In that case you would write:
$('p .tumblr_blog').remove();
But why not just remove the {Blockquote} tags from the theme, rather than relying on a front end solution. Or even just hide it using css:
p .tumblr_blog {
display:none;
}

If you're just looking to remove it from the DOM, try:
$(".tumblr_blog").remove();

How to force remove text after footer in html

I have this text, once I include some vuejs extension. I need the extension badly but it seem that it cause some text to display on my footer.
Is there any hack to remove it?.
Please check immediately after my footer, there some text there.I don't have editing tool to edit the image.
Please help
You could use some CSS to simply hide it. It might not be ideal, but could work just fine depending on your situation.
.footer{
display:none;
{
you can use JavaScript to remove that div element.
let footer = document.getElementsByClassName("footer");
footer.remove();

Using labels instead of anchor texts

So I have been working on a widget and I'm pretty much done with the exception of a little thing that is bugging me a bit. The widget script that users will copy and paste on their website looks like this.
<script src="http://www.example.com/widget.js"></script>
Then in the widget.js I have a line that adds an anchor text to the a tag like this.
$('.my-chat').html('Chat now');
I want the anchor text to be a certain color when active or on hover etc say blue and I have that described in its css file, however depending on the website it's placed on, their css may have other css properties for links and I realize that the anchor text of the widget gets modified depending on the website it's added on. I want to make the anchor text respect what I defined in the css of the widget, but I really don't know how. I saw this other widget that used labels, but I don't really understand what they are and how to use them.
Add this to your css
a.my-chat{ color:blue !important;}
a.my-chat:hover{ color:red !important;}

Anchor tag display full link issue

I found some really awesome link detection regex that works unbelievably great. It takes only the main part of a link and displays it as the body of the anchor tag and the whole link as the href. In example http://somesite.com/index.php?some=var will simply look like somesite.com. Which is just pure awesomeness, but then again it has its down side as well because someone might pass some variables that you might not necessarily want to send for some reason and I figured I need to display the whole url in the anchor body. Sadly I don't want to just give up on beautiful anchors and I decided I should display full link upon some event and thus came the trouble.
First I thought I should go for mouse hover (jquery's mouseenter) to display full link and then use mouseleave to make it beautiful again. Unfortunately that was unsuccessful due to short site names at the end of a line with a bunch of parameters. Example: If there is an anchor with body site.com and href http://site.com/some/params at the end of a line, after expanding it will go to the next line which would trigger the mouse leave and thus compressing it, which would by it self return the link to the original line and trigger the expand function creating an infinite loop.
Second idea was to have a right-click expand the link. Obviously the context menu on links that are to be expanded has to be disabled. Unfortunately, again, having the same link at the end of a line would cause a context menu to show up because after expanding the right click is also triggered at the blank space where the short link used to be.
I seem to have run out of ideas, does anyone have any?
Without breaking layout, you can use the native title property to display the full URL or, for something more customizable, a plugin such as jQuery UI's tooltip widget.
<a href="http://www.shorturl.com/?param=notSoShortUrl"
title="http://www.shorturl.com/?param=notSoShortUrl">shorturl.com</a>
Provided the title attribute is outputted in the initial markup, this solution works even with JS disabled. And if you feel like, jQuery UI tooltip may help customizing it for JS-enabled users.
If anyone is interested in how to patch the line-breaking issue described in the OP, here's my original solution to achieve non-line-breaking extensible links:
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.com
$('a').hover(function(e) {
$(this).text(e.type == 'mouseenter' ? this.href : $(this).data('shorturl'));
}).each(function() {
$(this).css({
width: this.offsetWidth,
whiteSpace: 'nowrap',
display: 'inline-block'
}).data('shorturl', $(this).text());
});
Demo
Though, this is mostly a CSS hack and link text may leak outside of the container (and obviously, won't work if the container has overflow:hidden), so it is not very good for layout purposes. Better stick with title or the tooltip plugin.

Adding html/any tags to either side of selection - Javascript

Adding HTML/any tags to either side of selection - Javascript
The problem:
After creating a textarea box in my PHP/html file I wished to add a little more functionality and decided to make an textarea that can use formatting, for example
<textarea>
This is text that was inserted. <b>this text was selected and applied a style
via a button<b>
</textarea>
It doesn't matter what the tags are, (could be bubbles for all that I care due to the fact the PHP script, on receiving the $_POST data will automatically apply the correct tags with the tag as the style ID. Not relevant)
The Question/s
How can I create this feature using javascript?
Are there any links that may help?
And can, if there is information, can you explain it?
EDIT: Other close example but not quite is stackoverflow's editor and note that I do not wish to use 3rd party scripts, this is a learning process for me.
The tags that are inserted in the text are saved to a database and then when the page is requested the PHP replaces the tags with the style ID. If there is a work around not involving 3rd party scripts please suggest
And for the anti-research skeptics on a google search, little was found that made sense and there was Previous Research on SOF:

- Adding tags to selection
Thanks in Advance
<textarea> elements cannot contain special markup, only values. You can't apply any styling in a textarea.
What you'll need to do is fake everything that a text box would normally do, including drawing a cursor. This is a lot of work, as hackattack said.
You can do a lot if you grab jQuery and start poking around. Toss a <div> tag out there with an ID for ease and start hacking away.
I've never made one personally, but there is a lot to it. HTML5's contentEditable can maybe get you a good chunk of the way there: http://html5demos.com/contenteditable/
If you want to pass this data back to the server, you'll need to grab the innerHTML of the container and slap that into a hidden input upon submission of your form.
Here's other some things you can check out if you're just messing around:
tabindex HTML attribute, to get focus in your box from tabbing
jQuery.focus() http://api.jquery.com/focus/, to determine when someone clicks in your box
cursor: text in CSS for looks http://wap.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_class_cursor.asp
jQuery.keypress() http://api.jquery.com/keypress/, or similar for grabbing keystrokes
Edit: I think I completely misunderstood
If you're not looking for a rich text editor, and just want some helper buttons for code, maybe selectionStart and selectionEnd is what you're after. I don't know what the browser support is, but it's working in Chrome:
http://jsfiddle.net/5yXsd/
you can not do anything beside basic formatting inside a texarea. If you want complex formatting, look into setting a div's contentEditable attribute to true. Or you can make a wysisyg editor, but that is a big project. I strongly suggest using 3rd party code on this one.
I suggest you using the iframe to implement the WYSIWYG effect.
There is a property in iframe called designMode
See here for more

Also there is a lightweight example maybe you would like to take a look:

Is there a NO-OP tag in HTML?

I am looking for a tag that i can use to mark out a position in the html, which i can then find later using JQuery. However, I need the tag to be as useless as possible: even empty divs and spans can cause the layout to change depending on the CSS rules you set. For that matter, even rubbish tags that html doesn't understand seem to acquire styles from css, and I don't think there is any way to find comments via DOM traversal?
This tag will be used to mark out the start and end of a chunk of HTML to be Ajaxed. I do not want to wrap the whole chunk in a div or span (which i what i'm doing now), because this can affect how the CSS cascades and i want the fact that the html is marked out as a chunk to be completely transparent to the programmer (me).
Any ideas?
edit: I just thought of using empty script tags. Those should be completely inert and invisible. I shall look into it
edit: How could i forget about display: none? stupid stupid stupid
Script tags
Anchor tags <a name...>
Can you use comment tags: <!-- whatever -->? Parser would allow you to distinguish it.
Given that you're talking about trying to use comments or <script> tags it seems that you don't want the content of your "chunk" to be visible to the user? If so, why can't you just wrap it like this:
<div style="display:none;" id="myChunk1">...your content...</div>
That won't interfere with the layout. If you have multiple "chunks" on the page use class="chunkClass" instead of setting the style inline.
Using jQuery you can easily get access to the content, delete the whole chunk, replace it, make it visible, etc.
If one extra <div> or <span> is screwing up your layout there's probably something else going on with your CSS.
[Responding to the title, not the actual scenario] If PHP is involved, <?php  ?> makes a dandy no-op tag; e.g.,
<p>No space between this<?php
?>that.</p>
will render as
No space between thisthat.
(except this facility does not do the Right Thing for embedded PHP multi-line tags, so the preceding was coded without any embedded newlines).
