I have a method in jQuery which is receiving a 'this' reference, so that I can filter out all the html by using:
showSomeThing = function (e) {
$("#div").html($(e).html());
}
I want to do some filtering on this e before passing that to the div, e.g. I want to find a class named 'someclass' and set it's display to 'none' so that the class will not show in div above.
I'm trying this:
$("#div").html($(e).find("someclass").hide().html();
but it doesn't work.
I also want to search some particular attributes in the html and their values (once I am able to do the above).
Any ideas?
Try using .end() , .attr()
$("#div").html(
$(e).find("someclass").hide()
.attr({name:"newName", value:"newValue"})
.end()
.html()
);

I am trying to find first row first anchor tag in jquery ?
I have 4 rows .I want to get first row anchor tag. I tried like this
https://jsbin.com/woxatuxoju/edit?html,js,output
$(()=>{
console.log( $('a[title=" Nominal"]')[0])
$('a[title=" Nominal"]')[0].css({'background-color':'red'})
})
but not able to find correct element.
$('a[title=" Nominal"]')[0] returns the DOM object of element and not the jquery object. Due to this .css () method is not applying the changes.
You should use .eq() selector to get jquery object of element by its index:
$('a[title=" Nominal"]:eq(0)').css({'background-color':'red'});
Using Javascript:
document.querySelectorAll('a')[0].style.backgroundColor = 'red';
Working Demo
I wanted to put an id in my element's parent element. Below is my code:
<div>
<div id="child"></div>
<div>
Im aware that jquery has a way to select a parent element , but I dont know how what method shall I use to put an id to it. Below is my jquery code:
div_resizable = $( "#child" ).parent();
div_resizable.id = "div_resizable";
Above code doesnt work with me. It doesnt throw an error, but no changes had taken effect. Any solution to my problem?
For achieve what you want, you can use the jquery attr:
$("#child" ).parent().attr('id', 'newID');
Or you can use the prop:
$("#child" ).parent().prop('id', 'newID');
And you can check the difference between the two here: difference between prop() and attr()
Of course div_resizable.id = "div_resizable" doesn't work. div_resizeable is an jQuery array and you are trying to assign id to it.
Try .attr instead:
$("#child").parent().attr({id: "div_resizable"});
To set a property on the first element inside a jQuery result object:
div_resizable = $( "#child" ).parent()[0];
// ^^^
div_resizable.id = "div_resizable";
This picks the first Element from the result so that you can directly access the property.
Or:
$('#child').parent().prop('id', 'div_resizable');
Use the .prop() helper method to accomplish the same thing.
I have a ul with several items. I populate the list dynamically after page load using jquery. As I add each list item, I also add an "itemID" to the data of that element using the jquery ".data()" function. Something like this:
var item = $('<li>My Item Name</li>');
item.data('itemID', '123ABC456');
Later, I need a selector to determine if there is any item in my item list with a specific itemID. First I tried using:
$('*[data-itemID="123ABC456"]');
This didn't work - and on further research, I discovered that this syntax only works if the data attribute was set in the DOM when the page was loaded; it doesn't work if you use the ".data" jquery method dynamically.
Next I tried:
$(':data(itemID==123ABC456)');
For some reason, this doesn't work. If I run simply $(':data(itemID)'), however, then I do get all the li elements that have an itemID in their data.
I know that the itemID attribute is set correctly, as when I call .data() on that list item I get:
Object { itemID="123ABC456"}
How can I select all elements that have an itemID of "123ABC456" in their data?
http://jsfiddle.net/w28p9/1/ <-- jsFiddle example showing differences with data-attribute & jquery.data()
jQuery.data() is different than HTML5 data-NAME attributes which you are trying to search for.
http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.data/
jQuery.data() saves inside of the jquery element (this data is hidden from plain sight).
Looking for [data-itemID] would work if inside of the actual had: <li data-itemID="12345"></li>.
To retrieve and look for the actual hidden .data() try:
// of course be more specific than just searching through all <li>'s
$('li').each(function () {
if ( $(this).data('itemID') === '123ABC456' ) {
// do whatever you wanted to do with it
}
});
Hope that helps!
Instead of
$(item).data('itemID', '123ABC456')
use
$(item).attr('data-itemID', '123ABC456')
Then you can use
$('[data-itemID=123ABC456]')
as a selector
How about putting the itemID in the DOM:
var item = $('<li itemID="'+itemid+">My Item Name</li>');
I'm trying to do something similar to this question, but it's a bit different, so the solution there isn't working for me.
<span class="a-class another-class test-top-left"></span>
I have an element (this code shows a span but it could be div span or anything). This element has a class beginning with test- (test-top-left, test-top-right etc.) I've triggered a click event on classes starting with test- and saved the clicked object as var object = this;. Simple stuff so far.
What I'm trying to do now is get the full name of that class (test-top-left). I know it starts with test- but what's the full name. The thing is that there are other classes a-class another-class and test-top-left. Can hasClass be used to get the full name of the class? I'd prefer not to use find() or filter() just because there may be additional elements within that also have class="test-"
Edit:
The code I have now is, but it gives me ALL the classes. What I need is the single class beginning with test-.
var object = this;
$(object).attr('class');
So now I for loop through all the classes and test each one separately, which seems like a lot of unnecessary code. I'm hoping jQuery has a clever way to get the exact class that was clicked right away.
Description
You can use jQuerys Attribute Contains Selector, .attr() and .click() method.
Attribute Contains Selector - Selects elements that have the specified attribute with a value containing the a given substring.
.attr() - Get the value of an attribute for the first element in the set of matched elements.
.click() - Bind an event handler to the "click" JavaScript event, or trigger that event on an element.
Sample
html
<span class="anyclass test-hello">Hello World</span>
jQuery
$("[class*='test']").click(function() {
var object = $(this);
alert(object.attr("class").match(/(test-.*?)(?:\s+|$)/)[1])
;});
Check out the updated jsFiddle
Update
If you dont want to use regex you can do this.
$("[class*='test']").click(function() {
var object = $(this);
alert("test-" + object.attr("class").split("test-")[1].split("-"))
;});
More Information
jQuery - Attribute Contains Selector
jQuery - .attr()
jQuery - .click()
jsFiddle Demonstration
This should work for you:
var object = this;
var className = object.className.match(/(test-.*?)(?:\s+|$)/)[1];
Class name is the name of the class you are looking for.
If you don't want to use split or regex, you can try having the class in a separate attribute
<span class="someclass test-something" _rel="test-something">test<span>
or
<span class="someclass" _rel="test-something">test<span>
with the script
$("[_rel*='test-']").click(....
And to retrieve the attribute, use $(this).attr("_rel")
I'm new to javascript and JQuery, and I'm working in a small project with JSP.
I create a grid dynamically with JSP and I added some buttons wich class is "select" and in the alt attribute I set the current row index. That works perfectly, I'm trying to set the onclick dynamically. This is my code
$('.select').click(function (){
alert($('.select').attr('alt'));
}
I want to each button to show its own index, but that code shows just the first index in each button. I've searched how to do it, but nothing comes out.
Is there a chance to do what I want?
change this line as:
alert($(this).attr('alt'));
When jQuery calls your event handler it sets this to be the DOM element in question, so try this:
$('.select').click(function (){
alert($(this).attr('alt'));
});
If you need to access DOM element properties you can then get them directly, e.g.:
alert( this.id );
this.value = "test";
If you need to use jQuery methods on the element you need to pass it to the jQuery function first, e.g.:
$(this).hide();
$(this).css("color","red").slideDown();
$('.select').click(function (){
alert($(this).attr('alt'));
});
Change
alert($('.select').attr('alt'));
by
alert($(this).attr('alt'));
Now you select the attr alt of the button lauch the event.
Not sure if that's what you're looking for but...
$('.select').click(function() {
$('.select').each(function() {
$(this).attr('value', $(this).attr('alt'));
});
});
This'll have every button "show" the value stored within their alt attribute when you click one button.
By the way, if you're using 1 button per row, you'd probably better go with index().
