I have an HTML page with a heading and 2 Divs, I then have a javascript where I want the heading to change if the user selects one off the Divs.
https://jsfiddle.net/L27xqgfs/1/
var happyMood = getElementById("happy");
var sadMood = getElementById("sad");
happyMood.onclick = function () {
var mainHeading = getElementById("heading");
mainHeading.innerHTML = "You have selected ";
};
sadMood.onclick = function () {
var mainHeading = getElementById("heading");
mainHeading.innerHTML = "You have selected " + sadMood;
};
Please can someone advise where I've gone wrong?
Thanks in advance.
if you call getElementById without any object,then you call window. getElementById, but you really should call document.getElementById. And you should import js file into html(in you local test).
I have created another jsfiddle which is correct.
var happyMood = document.getElementById("happy");
var sadMood = document.getElementById("sad");
happyMood.onclick = function () {
var mainHeading = document.getElementById("heading");
mainHeading.innerHTML = "You have selected ";
};
sadMood.onclick = function () {
var mainHeading = document.getElementById("heading");
mainHeading.innerHTML = "You have selected " + sadMood;
};

Ok so I want to do something simple in JavaScript, but I am getting an eror.
I want to dynamically create a div and then add another div plus a select control to it. But see the line I've marked with the error. When I include that line, I get the indicated error. What am I doing wrong? (I've simplified the code in the
myDiv = BuildContainerDiv();
myLabel = BuildLabel();
myDropdown = BuildDropdown();
myDiv.appendChild(myLabel); //Works fine.
myDiv.appendChild(myDropdown); // ERROR: Failed to execute 'appendChild' on 'Node': parameter 1 is not of type 'Node'
BuildContainerDiv: function () {
div = document.createElement('div');
div.id = "MyDiv";
div.name = "MyDiv";
div.style.padding = "10px";
div.style.float = "left";
return div;
},
BuildLabel: function () {
var lab = document.createElement('div');
lab.id = "mylabel";
lab.name = "mylabel";
lab.innerHTML = "Some text:";
return lab;
},
BuildDropdown: function () {
var select = document.createElement('select');
select.id = "myselect";
select.name = "myselect";
var option1 = document.createElement("option");
option1.value = "0";
option1.innerHTML = "(none)";
select.appendChild(option1);
//.....
var option5 = document.createElement("option");
option5.value = "0";
option5.innerHTML = "all";
select.appendChild(option5);
return select;
},
Silly error on my part. In my original post, I noted a function I was using called BuildDropdown. The problem was that I had another function with the same name in another part of the file, and it did not return a Node but plain html:
BuildDropdown: function () {
var ctl= '<select name="MyDropDown" id="MyDropDown">';
//...
return ctl+ '</select >';
},
This function was an earlier attempt and I forgot to delete it, and this older method was somehow being called. Since it was in fact not returning a node, the error was accurate. Apologies for your time wasted.
I'm trying to get a value from a GridView cell to change the source of an embed PDF. I execute a function when a button that is placed on each row of the GridView is clicked.
This is the code I have so far:
<script>
function changepdf(pdf) {
var value = document.getElementById('<%= GridView1.ClientID %>').rows[pdf.rowIndex].cells[3].innerText;
var file = document.getElementById('pdf');
file.src = 'pdf/catalogosh.pdf#page=' + value + '&#toolbar=0&#view=fit';
return false;
}
</script>
The Javascript function works fine when I write exactly the new source like this:
<script>
function changepdf(pdf) {
var file = document.getElementById('pdf');
file.src = 'pdf/catalogosh.pdf#page=4&#toolbar=0&#view=fit';
return false;
}
</script>
The main idea is to change the PDF page taking the value from de GridView.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I've just solved it. I'm pasting the code here for anyone that's trying to solve the same problem:
function changepdf(pdf) {
var row = pdf.parentNode.parentNode;
var rowIndex = row.rowIndex;
var value = document.getElementById('<%= GridView1.ClientID %>').rows[rowIndex].cells[2].innerText;
var file = document.getElementById('pdf');
file.src = 'pdf/catalogosh.pdf#page=' + value + '&#toolbar=0&#view=fit';
return false;
}
My problem was the rowIndex. The code was bad and I was getting the wrong value.
I added this two lines to get it well:
var row = pdf.parentNode.parentNode;
var rowIndex = row.rowIndex;
And then I got the cell value with this line:
var value = document.getElementById('<%= GridView1.ClientID %>').rows[rowIndex].cells[3].innerText;
So I have some js which is converting a div class's number through a daily exchange rate engine. It outputs correctly as it should and I am now trying to separate this number it outputs using jQuery and a function I found whilst doing some research. I am trying to feed the number to the function using a .innerHTML method. I have got the function to alert a converted number but I have multiple elements which this function should run for, so have used an .each function - this is where something isn't working. I get no alert so I think there is something wrong with the .each code.
Can anyone see anything that might be causing it?
The complete code is here:
<script src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/openexchangerates/money.js/master/money.js"></script>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.2.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="hello">
2300
</div>
<div class="hello">
52400
</div>
<script>
function ReplaceNumberWithCommas(yourNumber) {
//Seperates the components of the number
var n= yourNumber.toString().split(".");
//Comma-fies the first part
n[0] = n[0].replace(/\B(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))/g, ",");
//Combines the two sections
return n.join(".");
}
$(".hello").each(function() {
var currentDiv = $(this);
var currentPrice = currentDiv.text();
var demo = function(data) {
fx.rates = data.rates
var rate = fx(currentPrice).from("GBP").to("USD");
currentDiv.html("<div>"+currentPrice +"</div><div id='converted'> " +rate.toFixed(0)+"</div>");
//alert("Product Costs" + rate.toFixed(4))
}
$.getJSON("http://api.fixer.io/latest", demo);
});
$("#converted").each(function() {
var convertedPrice = $(this.innerHTML);
function runThis() { alert( ReplaceNumberWithCommas(convertedPrice)) }
setTimeout (runThis, 100);
});
</script>
I think the reason is
$("#converted").each(function() {
var convertedPrice = $(this.innerHTML);
function runThis() { alert( ReplaceNumberWithCommas(convertedPrice)) }
setTimeout (runThis, 100);
});
happends before you created the converted elements. Because you put the creation inside a get call.
I suggest you put this inside the callback of your get call.
Something like this
function ReplaceNumberWithCommas(yourNumber) {
//Seperates the components of the number
var n = yourNumber.toString().split(".");
//Comma-fies the first part
n[0] = n[0].replace(/\B(?=(\d{3})+(?!\d))/g, ",");
//Combines the two sections
return n.join(".");
}
var currentDiv = $(this);
var currentPrice = currentDiv.text();
var demo = function(data) {
fx.rates = data.rates
$(".hello").each(function() {
var currentDiv = $(this);
var currentPrice = currentDiv.text();
var rate = fx(currentPrice).from("GBP").to("USD");
currentDiv.html("<div>" + currentPrice + "</div><div class='converted'> " + rate.toFixed(0) + "</div>");
//alert("Product Costs" + rate.toFixed(4))
});
$(".converted").each(function() {
var convertedPrice = $(this).html();
console.log(ReplaceNumberWithCommas(convertedPrice));
});
}
$.getJSON("https://api.fixer.io/latest", demo);
folks!
I've a litte problem, this is the situation:
Tree View
I let the tree on basis of the "lvl" create. That means, Bereich ABC is lvl1, Test1.docx is lvl4 and so on. So it's a "fake" Tree. But i have just this lvl information for every object.
I have to check the checkbox if the parent is clicked. that means, if lvl3 is clicked (for example "Originale") the lvl4 and lvl5 have to be checked also.
Do you understand what i mean? I hope so. But i can't make it working. Do you have any ideas?
$('[class^=lvl]').click(function(){
var keepChecking = true;
var currentElement = $(this);
var clickedLevel = getLevel(currentElement);
var checkValue = currentElement.is(':checked');
while (keepChecking) {
currentElement.attr('checked' , checkValue);
// get next element
currentElement = getNextCheckbox(currentElement);
var currentLevel = getLevel(currentElement);
keepChecking = (currentLevel > clickedLevel);
}
});
function getNextCheckbox(checkbox) {
return checkbox.parent().parent().next().children(":first").children(":first");
}
function getLevel(checkbox) {
var currentClass = checkbox.attr('class');
var currentLvl = currentClass.substring(3, currentClass.length);
return parseInt(currentLvl);
}
<TD class="center">
<INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="" class="lvl[LL_REPTAG=PFADLEVEL /] docCheck" VALUE="[LL_REPTAG=DataId /]">
</TD>
I changed your javascript code to this:
function getNextCheckbox(checkbox) {
return checkbox.parent().parent().next().children(":first").children(":first");
}
function getLevel(checkbox) {
var currentClass = checkbox.attr('class');
if (currentClass){
var currentLvl = currentClass.substring(3, currentClass.length);
return parseInt(currentLvl);
}else{
return false;
}
}
$('[class^=lvl]').click(function(){
var currentElement = $(this);
var clickedLevel = getLevel(currentElement);
var checkValue = currentElement.is(':checked');
nextElement = getNextCheckbox(currentElement);
while ( getLevel(nextElement)>clickedLevel) {
currentElement=nextElement;
currentElement.prop('checked' , checkValue);
nextElement = getNextCheckbox(currentElement);
}
});
You can also play with it here: https://jsfiddle.net/1r73vy7z/1/

I have One simple registration Form which is developed in C#.Net. This form also contain one Grid view which display data from database.In this,I want to disable Insert button when i select particular raw data. and i had develop this code in jquery. I used below code.
function DoStuff(lnk) {
debugger;
var grid = document.getElementById('GridView1');
var cell, row, rowIndex, cellIndex;
cell = lnk.parentNode;
row = cell.parentNode;
rowIndex = row.rowIndex;
cellIndex = cell.cellIndex;
var rowId = grid.rows[rowIndex].cells[0].textContent;
var rowname = grid.rows[rowIndex].cells[1].textContent;
var rowcontact = grid.rows[rowIndex].cells[2].innerHTML;
var rowaddress = grid.rows[rowIndex].cells[3].innerHTML;
var rowemail = grid.rows[rowIndex].cells[4].innerHTML;
var Id = document.getElementById('txt_Id');
var name = document.getElementById('txt_Name');
var contact = document.getElementById('txt_PhoneNumber');
var address = document.getElementById('txt_Address');
var email = document.getElementById('txt_EmailId');
Id.value = rowId;
name.value = rowname;
contact.value = rowcontact;
address.value = rowaddress;
email.value = rowemail;
document.getElementById('Button1').disabled = true;
};
But when i run that page it becomes disable and immediately enable automatically.....:(
Can anyone give me solution ???
You have to call this function after form is completely loaded.
Use below code to make it that happen if you are using jQuery.
$( document ).ready(function() {
DoStuff(lnk);
});
