Superfish dropdown with Bootstrap? - javascript

How is it possible to combine the nav-pills of bootstrap and the sf-menu of superfish?
I simply tried to use them both.
<ul class="nav nav-pills" id="example">
<li class="sf-menu current"> menu item </li>
</ul>
.. but surely they conbtradicted each other in the css styles and the output wasn't useable. So now I am looking for an easy way, to combine both, without rewriting the css of either of them.
(I am beginner in front end programming)

how do I wrap my menu in to sub menu using jquery?

this is my site.
this is how I finally make it look like
I want to divide the the menu list items into two sub menu say menu left and right. And then wrap them in a div. This is make it easy for me to style them and this way they would stay responsive as well.
Now, I have been trying to achieve this by
jQuery( ".menu-item-580", ".menu-item-583",".menu-item-584",".menu-item-563").wrapAll("<div class='new' />").after(".menubar-brand");
I have trying this in browser console.
I also tried same above code by using appendTo() instead of after()
But, still no luck.
In your code you're basically doing this:
<ul>
<li>
<div class="new">
<li>
<li>
</div>
<li>
</ul>
which is not a valid markup.
The easiest way to goup <li>s would be to assign different additional css classes to different parts of the list:
<ul>
<li class="group1">
<li class="group1">
<li class="group2">
<li class="group2">
</ul>
Also, have a look at this: Is there a way to group `<li>` elements?

Highlighting menu section not active

I'm working on a project that requires 2 distinct menus, one on top, and one on the left of the page:
<div class="navigation">
<ul class="navigation">
<li>FILM </li>
<li>PHOTOGRAPHY </li>
<li>OTHER WORKS </li>
<li>INFO/INQUIRE </li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="navigationLeft">
<ul class="navigationLeft">
<li><a href='../item1/index.html'><span>item 1</span></a></li>
<li><a href='../item2/index.html'><span>item 2</span></a></li>
<li><a href='../item3/index.html'><span>item 3</span></a></li>
<li><a href='../item4/index.html'><span>item 4</span></a></li>
</ul>
</div>
The left one is basically a sort of sub-menu of a section in the top menu. Originally, the project was meant to be small, so I used straight CSS to highlight selected sections using class, but the website has grown so much now that I want to use templating for future updates. That means that straight CSS is now out. I've implemented the following script in my header:
<script type="text/javascript" >
$(function() {
$(".navigationLeft a").each(function() {
if (this.href == window.location) {
$(this).css("color", "#ff9900");
};
});
});
</script>
It's working for my left menu, but obviously wouldn't work for my top menu, because technically the section that I'm in isn't the "current page". I'm looking for a way using jQuery/js to parse through the url and have the highlighting applied to any link that is once up the tree. So basically, in my top menu, any <a href> that contained for example /photography/ would also be highlighted, even though it's not technically the current page. Many thanks in advance!

Why the anchor does not appear in the url after click?

I have such HTML:
<div class="parrent pull-left">
<ul class="nav nav-tabs nav-stacked">
<li class="active">TAB1</li>
<li class="">TAB2</li>
<li class="">TAB3</li>
</ul>
</div>
This is navigation for tabs. But it behaves something different: when I click on the link (for example: TAB1) - required tab is displayed. But there is not the anchor in url(#tab1 or #tab2 or #tab3). But I need it...
I am some new in fronted and I use ready template. So there are such frameworks:
jquery.js, bootstrap.min.js, js/jquery.isotope.min.js
What should I do??
Maybe it's related to this question and this (if you are using bootstrap for tabs managing).

How to I let the clicked nav-pill stays active using bootstrap?

Below is how I created a menu links of my website using Bootstrap 3.1.0. I want the selected nag-pill to stay active/select while the link is clicked. Currently, the defined hover-colour is gone after the link is clicked. Is there a way to let the pill stay active after clicking?
<ul id="menu_area" class="nav nav-pills nav-justified custom">
<li>one</li>
<li><a id="menu_text">two</a></li>
<li><a id="menu_text">three</a></li>
</ul>
===Update===
I'm just new to JS and web development. The code that I'm trying to follow Twitter Bootstrap tutorial is here: http://jsfiddle.net/Dy9e6/
I just want the clicked nag-pill to show as 'selected' or 'highlighted' after user click on one of the pill/tab.
First you need to add default class="active" to the first element.
Second you need to add data-toggle="tab" to the <a /> element. See the docs
Your code becomes:
<ul id="menu_area" class="nav nav-pills nav-justified custom">
<li class="active">one</li>
<li>two</li>
<li>three</li>
</ul>

Multi level dropdown accessibility improvements

I am trying to create a multi level drodown menu with the following code:
<nav role="navigation" class="navigation">
<ul>
<li>Home
</li>
<li>About
<ul>
<li>Company
<ul>
<li>Brands</li>
<li>Stuff</li>
<li>More Stuff</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Team
</li>
<li>Goals
</li>
<li>Photos
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Portfolio
<ul>
<li>Chairs
</li>
<li>Beds
</li>
<li>Fireplace
</li>
<li>Onother
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Portfolio
</li>
</ul>
</nav>
With some jQuery I have hidden all the second/third level items and added a class that will show a "+" in the right side via CSS.

This works fine for most users, but when I try to use this with VoiceOver on Mac I just can't simply find a way to navigate. Maybe because I don't know all the things about VoiceOver or I am doing something wrong with HTML and JS
Is there something missing from my code that could improve accessibility for blind people using screen readers. What should I do more and why for this particular example.
Any up to date tools or documentation that will put me up to speed about accessibility. I think that the W3C accessibility website is too cluttered and confusing. I read some things about Aria too, but the documentation is really complicated and some people say that using proper markup is good enough.
Please try to answer for this example
UPDATE
I added visibility hidden to the hidden ul's as the screen reader does not speak invisible elements and I will still be able to use CSS3 for the height transition
