setting google maps marker javascript - javascript

I embed custom google map to my homepage (under contact) - but how to set the marker on the map and map itself on the right place?
addition to html was:
<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js"></script>
<script src="map.js"></script>
and js code is:
function initialize() {
var mapCanvas = document.getElementById('map-canvas');
var mapOptions = {
center: new google.maps.LatLng(44.5403, -78.5463),
zoom: 8,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(mapCanvas, mapOptions)
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);

In initialize function you need add var marker variable. Below is simple example to set marker on map when click. Hope this help
function initializeMap() {
var options = {
center: new google.maps.LatLng(21.1569, 106.113),
zoom: 15
};
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), options);
directionsDisplay = new google.maps.DirectionsRenderer();
infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow();
marker = new google.maps.Marker();
directionsDisplay.setMap(map);
}
google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'click', function(event) {
placeMarker(event.latLng);
});
function placeMarker(location) {
geocoder.geocode({latLng : location}, function(response, status){
if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) {
console.log(response);
if (response[0]) {
marker.setMap(map);
marker.setPosition(location);
infoWindow.setContent(response[0].formatted_address);
infoWindow.open(map, marker);
}
}
});
}

Cant get markers on google api

I am using the gem "geocoder" to get the lang and long from a address but I cant seem to be able to get a marker on my map
- lat_long = Geocoder.coordinates(Mode.full_address).to_s.gsub('[', '').gsub(']', '')
%script{:src => "https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp"}
:javascript
var map;
function initialize() {
var mapOptions = {
zoom: 8,
center: new google.maps.LatLng(#{lat_long})
};
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), mapOptions);
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
This places the map where it should be but it does not give me a marker
Add a google.maps.Marker.
var map;
function initialize() {
var mapOptions = {
zoom: 8,
center: new google.maps.LatLng(#{lat_long})
};
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), mapOptions);
// Create a marker on map center
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: map.getCenter(),
map: map,
});
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);

Google Maps API with Geolocation and Places Search

I'm using the Google Maps and places API. I'm trying to have the map show current location WITH surrounding restaurants, cafes, and bars. At this point the map loads and the geolocation is working. I can't seem to get the place markers to show up. I have no idea what I'm missing as I'm learning javascript as quickly as possible.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank You!
Here is my current code:
<script>
var map;
var service;
var marker;
var pos;
var infowindow;
function initialize()
{
var mapOptions = {
zoom: 14,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP,
scrollwheel: false,
panControl: false,
streetViewControl: false,
mapTypeControl: false,
};
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), mapOptions);
//HTML5 geolocation
if (navigator.geolocation)
{
navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position)
{
pos = new google.maps.LatLng(position.coords.latitude,position.coords.longitude);
infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({map: map,position: pos,content: 'You Are Here'});
var request = {location:pos,radius:500,types: ['restaurant, cafe, bars']};
map.setCenter(pos);
infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow();
var service = new google.maps.places.PlacesService(map);
service.nearbySearch(request,callback);
},
function()
{
handleNoGeolocation(true);
});
}
else
{
handleNoGeolocation(false);
}
function callback(results, status)
{
if (status == google.maps.places.PlacesServiceStatus.OK)
{
for (var i = 0; i < results.length; i++)
{
createMarker(results[i]);
}
}
}
function createMarker(place)
{
var placeLoc = place.geometry.location;
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
map: map,
position: place.geometry.location
});
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function()
{
infowindow.setContent(place.name);
infowindow.open(map, this);
});
}
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
</script>
Check that your script call to the Google API includes a reference to the places library. For example:
<script src="http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=yourAPIkey&libraries=geometry,places&sensor=true&language=en"></script>
In this line of code:
var request = {location:pos,radius:500,types: ['restaurant, cafe, bars']};
instead of types: write keyword:

Google maps how to search for places with button click

code:
var map;
var infowindow;
function initialize() {
var pyrmont = new google.maps.LatLng(-33.8665433, 151.1956316);
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), {
center: pyrmont,

var request = {
location: pyrmont,
radius: 500,

function createMarker(place) {
var placeLoc = place.geometry.location;
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
map: map,
position: place.geometry.location
});
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() {
infowindow.setContent(place.name);
infowindow.open(map, this);
});
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);\
EDIT
I trying to create a button that when clicked shows the search result of google places .. I hid the maker and made a function to the button show the marker, but this is not working out
function createMarker(place) {
var placeLoc = place.geometry.location;
var markersr = new google.maps.Marker({
map: map,
icon:icon2,
visible:false,
position: place.geometry.location,
});
function
function showsearch() {
markersr.setVisible(true);
}
button
<input type="checkbox" name="btn2" onClick="showsearch()" class="btn2" >

var mapOptions = {
center: new google.maps.LatLng(latitude, longitude),

not geting address with help of lat and long in google map

i am trying to get address using reverse geocoding.
but there is some problem in geocoder.geocode({...}) line. even normal alert message also not display.
function initialize() {
var mapOptions = {
zoom: 11,
center: new google.maps.LatLng(23.0171240, 72.5330533),
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
};
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map_canvas'),mapOptions);
google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'click', function(e) {
placeMarker(e.latLng, map);
var input=e.latLng;
var lat = parseFloat(input.lat());
var lng = parseFloat(input.lng());
var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(lat, lng);
geocoder.geocode({'latLng': latlng}, function(results, status) {
if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) {
alert(results[1].formatted_address);
}
});
});
}
function placeMarker(position, map) {
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: position,
map: map
});
map.panTo(position);
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
add below line inside initialize() function.
var geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder();

Add Marker function with Google Maps API

I have the following Javascript that includes both the standard Google Maps API initialize() function and custom addMarker() function. The map will load fine however the marker does not get added to the map.
<script type="text/javascript">
// Standard google maps function
function initialize() {
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(40.779502, -73.967857);
var myOptions = {
zoom: 12,
center: myLatlng,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions);
}
// Function for adding a marker to the page.
function addMarker(location) {
marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: location,
map: map
});
}
// Testing the addMarker function
CentralPark = new google.maps.LatLng(37.7699298, -122.4469157);
addMarker(CentralPark);
</script>
You have added the add marker method call outside the function and that causes it to execute before the initialize method which will be called when google maps script loads and thus the marker is not added because map is not initialized
Do as below....
Create separate method TestMarker and call it from initialize.
<script type="text/javascript">
// Standard google maps function
function initialize() {
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(40.779502, -73.967857);
var myOptions = {
zoom: 12,
center: myLatlng,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions);
TestMarker();
}
// Function for adding a marker to the page.
function addMarker(location) {
marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: location,
map: map
});
}
// Testing the addMarker function
function TestMarker() {
CentralPark = new google.maps.LatLng(37.7699298, -122.4469157);
addMarker(CentralPark);
}
</script>
function initialize() {
var location = new google.maps.LatLng(44.5403, -78.5463);
var mapCanvas = document.getElementById('map_canvas');
var map_options = {
center: location,
zoom: 15,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(map_canvas, map_options);
new google.maps.Marker({
position: location,
map: map
});
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
THis is other method
You can also use setCenter method with add new marker
check below code
$('#my_map').gmap3({
action: 'setCenter',
map:{
options:{
zoom: 10
}
},
marker:{
values:
[
{latLng:[position.coords.latitude, position.coords.longitude], data:"Netherlands !"}
]
}
});
<div id="map" style="width:100%;height:500px"></div>
<script>
function myMap() {
var myCenter = new google.maps.LatLng(51.508742,-0.120850);
var mapCanvas = document.getElementById("map");
var mapOptions = {center: myCenter, zoom: 5};
var map = new google.maps.Map(mapCanvas, mapOptions);
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({position:myCenter});
marker.setMap(map);
}
</script>
<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=AIzaSyBu-916DdpKAjTmJNIgngS6HL_kDIKU0aU&callback=myMap"></script>
Below code works for me:
<script src="http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js"></script>
<script>
var myCenter = new google.maps.LatLng(51.528308, -0.3817765);
function initialize() {
var mapProp = {
center:myCenter,
zoom:15,
mapTypeId:google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
};
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("googleMap"), mapProp);
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: myCenter,
icon: {
url: '/images/marker.png',
size: new google.maps.Size(70, 86), //marker image size
origin: new google.maps.Point(0, 0), // marker origin
anchor: new google.maps.Point(35, 86) // X-axis value (35, half of marker width) and 86 is Y-axis value (height of the marker).
}
});
marker.setMap(map);
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
</script>
<body>
<div id="googleMap" style="width:500px;height:380px;"></div>
</body>
