I am trying to add a Google Maps application to give the user the directions from his/her current location to a particular fixed static point on the map. So far I have created a controller and the related HTML. However, for some reason when I am testing this out I am not getting the map, but rather an error in the console ""
This is my controller:
'use strict';
angular.module('main')
.controller('LocationCtrl', function($scope, $ionicLoading, $compile) {
function initialize() {
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load');
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(43.07493, -89.381388);
var mapOptions = {
center: myLatlng,
zoom: 16,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
};
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"),
mapOptions);
//Marker + infowindow + angularjs compiled ng-click
var contentString = "<div><a ng-click='clickTest()'>Click me!</a></div>";
var compiled = $compile(contentString)($scope);
var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
content: compiled[0]
});
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: myLatlng,
map: map,
title: 'Uluru (Ayers Rock)'
});
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() {
infowindow.open(map, marker);
});
$scope.map = map;
}
function loadScript(src) {
var script = document.createElement("script");
script.type = "text/javascript";
document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script);
script.src = src;
}
loadScript('http://www.google.com.mt/jsapi');
loadScript('http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=&v=3&sensor=true&callback=initialize');
$scope.centerOnMe = function() {
if (!$scope.map) {
return;
}
$scope.loading = $ionicLoading.show({
content: 'Getting location',
showBackdrop: false
});
navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(pos) {
$scope.map.setCenter(new google.maps.LatLng(pos.coords.latitude, pos.coords.longitude));
$scope.loading.hide();
}, function(error) {
alert('Unable to get location: ' + error.message);
});
};
$scope.clickTest = function() {
alert('Example of infowindow with ng-click')
};
});

</ion-content>
<ion-footer-bar class="bar-dark">
<a ng-click="centerOnMe()" class="button button-icon icon ion-navigate">Find Me</a>
</ion-footer-bar>
</ion-pane>
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Also, can some one give me some tips on how to give the user the directions to this static point when the user clicks on the Find Me link in the footer? (Something along these lines but the end point is fixed and the start point would be the location of the user when he clicks on the Find Me button - https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/directions-panel)
I am new to AngularJS and am not sure if my code is correct. Also, I am not using jQuery as a dependency.
Try integrating with Angular Google Maps
http://angular-ui.github.io/angular-google-maps/#!/
It's much easier to use and has good documentation.
The initialize function is not defined in the global context.
setting $window.initialize = initialize worked for me
also added some css, but i guess you already have them
working fiddle
hope this helps
Replace google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize); with ionic.Platform.ready(initialize);. Similar quesiton.

I'm trying to build a website that shows a map and on top of it I want to display a button that takes you to your current location.
I'm using Google maps service to pull out the map, I also manage to get the user location by itself so all the JavaScript seems to be working fine but when add the function getlocation to the code and try to call it from the HTML it doesn't work. I believe that is probably not finding the function and I can't figure out why?
I will leave the code below:
<script>
var map;
function initialize() {
var miami = new google.maps.LatLng(41.85, -87.65);
var mapOptions = {
zoom: 4,
center: miami,
disableDefaultUI: true,
}
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('mymap'),
mapOptions);
var myloc = document.getElementById("try");
function getlocation () {
//code
// Try HTML5 geolocation
if(navigator.geolocation) {
navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position) {
var pos = new google.maps.LatLng(position.coords.latitude,
position.coords.longitude);
var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
map: map,
position: pos,
content: 'Location found using HTML5.'
});
}, function() {
handleNoGeolocation(true);
});
} else {
// Browser doesn't support Geolocation
handleNoGeolocation(false);
}
}
function handleNoGeolocation(errorFlag) {
if (errorFlag) {
var content = 'Error: The Geolocation service failed.';
} else {
var content = 'Error: Your browser doesn\'t support geolocation.';
}
var options = {
map: map,
position: new google.maps.LatLng(60, 105),
content: content
};
var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow(options);
}
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
</script>
I'm using inline style for everything. I'm somehow new into this of JavaScript so if could please tell me where is my error or what else do I need to make a button from the HTML call a function on JavaScript.
In addition here is the HTML button and map div
<style>
html, body, #mymap{
height: 100%;
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px
}
</style>
<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp&signed_in=true"></script>
<body>
<div id="try"><button onclick="getlocation()">Click here</button></div>
<div id="mymap"></div>
</body>
If you don't understand what my question is please also comment!
This is my first question here!
google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'click', function(event) {
marker = new google.maps.Marker({position: event.latLng, map: map});
});
I just want to display a default info window with the content The 123456789.
So I am using the maps example from google, and changing the infowindow content. Simple as that.
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="initial-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no"><meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Info windows</title>
<style>html, body, #map-canvas {height: 100%;margin: 0px;padding: 0px}</style>
<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp"></script>
<script>
function initialize() {
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(-25.363882,131.044922);
var mapOptions = {zoom: 4,center: myLatlng};
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), mapOptions);
var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
content: 'The 123456789'
});
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: myLatlng,
map: map,
title: 'Uluru (Ayers Rock)'
});
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() {
infowindow.open(map,marker);
});
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
</script>
</head><body><div id="map-canvas"></div></body></html>
I am getting this in both Firefox and Chrome (expected The 123456789). Only in IE I have the desired result. The rest of the text is wrapped and in chrome the scrollbar is also visible.
Now, as per the documentation, the InfoWindow should be expanded to fit my text, which it does if the content is a bit longer than the one I am testing. Is this a google maps styling issue and how can I simply display that text without custom InfoWindows and without hackish css?
edit
Tested the abode code again. The first time the infowindo is shown its problematic, the following times it's displayed as it should.
Just tested your code and seems to be correct.

One thing you can do is, rather than create the infowindow full of content, you may wanna create the instance and, onclick set the content.
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() {
infowindow.setContent('something');
infowindow.open(map,marker);
});
You should put the text in a '<div>' tag with style or class that has style attributes
var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
content: '<div style="width: 10em;">The 123456789</div>'
});
You could try adding a listener to the infowindow 'domready' event (using addListenerOnce), close infowindow, then reopen it.
proof of concept code snippet:
function initialize() {
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(-25.363882, 131.044922);
var mapOptions = {
zoom: 4,
center: myLatlng
};
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), mapOptions);
var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
content: 'The 123456789'
});
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: myLatlng,
map: map,
title: 'Uluru (Ayers Rock)'
});
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() {
google.maps.event.addListenerOnce(infowindow,'domready',function() {
infowindow.close();
infowindow.open(map,marker);
});
infowindow.open(map, marker);
});
google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'click', function() {
infowindow.close();
});
google.maps.event.trigger(marker,'click');
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
html,
body,
#map-canvas {
height: 100%;
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px
}
<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp"></script>
<div id="map-canvas"></div>
Try to add
style="word-wrap:nospace"
as an attribute of your content
var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
content: '<p style="word-wrap:nospace">'+The 123456789+'</p>'
});
This was due to global img styling. To revert it I just added
.gm-style img { max-width: none; }
Kudos to this answer.
I setup google maps and it was working fine but just spotted that is is no longer firing any hints would be welcome I am not getting any error messages in the console either which is even more annoying so not quite sure why its not working:
<div class="img-thumbnail">
<div id="map_canvas"></div>
</div>
<script>
function loadScript() {
var script = document.createElement('script');
script.type = 'text/javascript';
script.src = 'https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp&' +
'callback=initialize';
document.body.appendChild(script);
}
window.onload = loadScript;
function initialize() {
var map_options = {
center: new google.maps.LatLng(51.500690, -0.152819),
zoom: 17,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map_canvas'), map_options);
marker = new google.maps.Marker({
map: map,
position: new google.maps.LatLng(51.500690, -0.152819)
});
infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({content:"<b>The Caledonian Club</b><br/>9 Halkin Street<br/>London<br />SW1X 7DR" });
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, "click", function(){
infowindow.open(map,marker);
});
infowindow.open(map,marker);
}
</script>
Don't use the "experimental version" (v=3.exp) in production. That will break without warning (at least it will more often than the "release" version).
I am sure this is a simple fix, but I've been searching all over and everything I try just does not work. All I'm trying to do is replace the default marker with a custom icon, but it will not show up. Here's my code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function initialize() {
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(43.041936,-88.044523);
var mapOptions = {
center:myLatlng,
zoom:15,
disableDefaultUI:true,
mapTypeId:google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("milwaukeeMap"), mapOptions);
var marker = new google.maps.Marker();
marker.setPosition(myLatlng);
marker.setMap(map);
marker.setIcon('/images/map-marker.png');
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
</script>
I know the image is in the correct location; I can find it in my browser if I type the path. I've checked and double-checked, but is there a problem with my code? Sorry, I can't provide a live example.
<script type="text/javascript">
function initialize() {
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(43.041936,-88.044523);
var mapOptions = {
center:myLatlng,
zoom:15,
disableDefaultUI:true,
mapTypeId:google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("milwaukeeMap"), mapOptions);
var markerImage = 'images/map-marker.png';
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: myLatlng,
map: map,
icon: markerImage
});
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
</script>
Try this, i changed how to create the marker.
I changed the image url to test it, it seams its working:
<html>
<head>
<script src="https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?v=3.exp&sensor=false"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
function initialize() {
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(43.041936,-88.044523);
var mapOptions = {
center:myLatlng,
zoom:15,
disableDefaultUI:true,
mapTypeId:google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("milwaukeeMap"), mapOptions);
var markerImage = 'http://www.mapsmarker.com/wp-content/uploads/leaflet-maps-marker-icons/bar_coktail.png';
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: myLatlng,
map: map,
icon: markerImage
});
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="milwaukeeMap" style="height:400px;width:400px;"></div>
</body>
</html>
Code on JSFiddle http://jsfiddle.net/iambnz/NGja4/160/
I created a small test file, and there does not seem to be anything wrong with your javascript code. I see my own marker perfectly. So it seems there is something wrong in the rest of your HTML file. Does the PNG file exists? Is it really a PNG? Maybe try a different image to be sure.
Ron.
I found that in some cases, externally hosted icons need an extra parameter e.g.
images/map-marker.png?raw=true
I was using Firefox 57.0.4 for Ubuntu then I switch over to Chromium Version 63.0.3239.84 and it worked. That is with the
?raw=true
On and off.
I'm using Twitter's Bootstrap for defining my CSS. I have made a page with three tabs. The second tab contains a map built with Google Maps. However when opening the page and switching to the second page with the map, the map is not rendered completely. Once I reload the page with the google maps tab as the selected tab the map loads entirely.
I read some posts that advised people with the same problem to add the following code to the javascript:
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'resize', function() {
map.setCenter(homeLatlng);
});
However this doesn't seem to be the solution. Please find the complete code below:
Javascript:
<script type="text/javascript">
function initialize() {
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'resize', function() {
map.setCenter(homeLatlng);
});
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(37.4419, -122.1419);
var myOptions = {
zoom: 13,
center: myLatlng,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions);
downloadUrl("data.xml", function(data) {
var markers = data.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker");
for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) {
var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat")),
parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng")));
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({position: latlng, map: map});
}
});
}
</script>
HTML:
<div class="tab-pane" id="orange" style="background-color:#E3F2FF;">
<div id="map_canvas" style="width:780px; height:400px; overflow:;"></div>
</div>
How can I resolve this? Maybe I can add some javascript that reloads the google maps part once the tab is selected but I don't know how to do this....
Updated code still shows the error:
<div class="tab-pane" id="orange" style="background-color:#E3F2FF;">
<div id="map_canvas" style="width:780px; height:400px; overflow:;"></div>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="util.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
function initialize() {
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'resize', function() {
map.setCenter(homeLatlng);
});
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(37.4419, -122.1419);
var myOptions = {
zoom: 13,
center: myLatlng,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions);
downloadUrl("data.xml", function(data) {
var markers = data.documentElement.getElementsByTagName("marker");
for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) {
var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat")),
parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng")));
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({position: latlng, map: map});
}
});
map.checkResize();
}
</script>
</div>
I was battling with this issue as well. I was using a modal form and it rendered the map when it was hidden. When the tab is shown, you need to trigger this code:
google.maps.event.trigger(map, 'resize');
map.setZoom( map.getZoom() );
Hopefully it will work for you. If that doesn't work, here is the link where I found the solution. Maybe there will be another helpful comment.
http://code.google.com/p/gmaps-api-issues/issues/detail?id=1448
There's a lot of solutions here and frankly they're all wrong. If you have to hi-jack the default functionality of Bootstrap tabs, you might as well not use Bootstrap tabs. If you're only calling resize after the tab is shown, you may still have issues with the GMaps interface (zoom level and such). You simply have to initialize the map after the tab is visible.
var myCenter=new google.maps.LatLng(53, -1.33);
var marker=new google.maps.Marker({
position:myCenter
});
function initialize() {
var mapProp = {
center:myCenter,
zoom: 14,
draggable: false,
scrollwheel: false,
mapTypeId:google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
};
var map=new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map-canvas"),mapProp);
marker.setMap(map);
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() {
infowindow.setContent(contentString);
infowindow.open(map, marker);
});
};
$('a[data-toggle="tab"]').on('shown.bs.tab', function (e) {
initialize();
});
You can see a working example in this bootply: http://www.bootply.com/102241
Note: if your interface is still glitchy, it could be this issue:
Google Maps API V3 : weird UI display glitches (with screenshot)
Using the most recent gmaps api, you just need to add this to your styling:
.gm-style img { max-width: none; }
.gm-style label { width: auto; display: inline; }
Works for me after testing different delays :
$(window).resize(function() {
setTimeout(function() {
google.maps.event.trigger(map, 'resize');
}, 300)
});
Hope it helps.
I have solved the problem by using
google.maps.event.trigger(map, 'resize');
inside show function in bootstrap-tab.js means at the time of showing the box you should trigger resize event and will work..
Edit: I have seen another link with the same answer
Google Maps API v3, jQuery UI Tabs, map not resizing
I have seen this link after solving the problem to find out the reason which is still unanswered that why resize event does not works on the click event of the tabs but works in the tab js
this works fine for me, I use jquery tabs
setTimeout(function() {
google.maps.event.trigger(map, "resize");
map.setCenter(new google.maps.LatLng(default_lat, default_lng));
map.setZoom(default_map_zoom);
}, 2000);
from this link https://code.google.com/p/gmaps-api-issues/issues/detail?id=1448
To show a google maps in a hidden div, the div must show before the map is created and loaded. Below is an example:
<div id="map_canvas" style="width:500px; height:500px"></div>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#button').click(function() {
$('#map_canvas').delay('700').fadeIn();
setTimeout(loadScript,1000);
});
});
function initialize() {
var title= "Title";
var lat = 50;
var lng = 50;
var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(parseFloat(lat),parseFloat(lng));
var myOptions = {
zoom: 8,
center: myLatlng,
mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
}
var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions);
var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
position: myLatlng,
title:artTitle
});
// To add the marker to the map, call setMap();
marker.setMap(map);
}
function loadScript() {
var script = document.createElement("script");
script.type = "text/javascript";
script.src = "http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false&callback=initialize";
document.body.appendChild(script);
}
</script>
For me, what it worked was to call the function that renders the map after the, in my case, the modal had shown.
All I had to do was:
$(document).on("shown", "#eventModal", function(){
bindMap(coordinates);
});
You can do the same with the tabs, because they also have a "shown" event.
