Best way to check if JSON response is empty or null - javascript

I'm just wondering if this is the best way to check if a JSON response is empty or NULL.
This is what I did so far. With this way, how would it figure out which JSON key is actually empty, and which is full, then how would it submit the correct one. That's why I was thinking of the second option. Am I just super over-thinking this?
if ((data.city.length > 0) || (data.region.length > 0) || (data.country.length > 0)) {
$('#city').empty().append(data.city);
$('#region').empty().append(data.region);
$('#country').empty().append(data.country);
} else {
$('#city').empty().append('No Info Available');
$('#region').empty().append('No Info Available');
$('#country').empty().append('No Info Available');
}
But then it got me thinking if this way would be better, it would be a lot longer though. Thoughts on this?
if ((data.city.length > 0) {
$('#city').empty().append(data.city);
} else {
$('#city').empty().append('No Info Available');
}
if ((data.country.length > 0) {
$('#country').empty().append(data.country);
} else {
$('#country').empty().append('No Info Available');
}

If that's the pattern you have, and it's consistent
$.each(data, function(key, value) {
$('#' + key).html(value || 'No Info Available');
});

Redirects page base on user country (Javascript)

I’m struggling to find a good resource on how to execute this. I wanted to redirect the page base on user location. I know this required custom code but at the moment I’m stuck with it and most of the resources that I found are outdated. I’m using ipinfo.io to determine the user country.
Here’s the code that I’m using :
$.get(“https://ipinfo.io”, function(data) {
if(data.country !== “GB”){
console.log(“no gb”)
}else {
var test
test = ‘GB’
console.log(“THIS IS GB”)}
}, “jsonp”);
But then I’m stuck on how to use those value and redirect the page.
If anyone has any experience on this please guide me :pray:t3:
To redirect use location.href
$.get('https://ipinfo.io', function(data) {
if(data.country !== “GB”){
location.href = 'http://ADDRESS-TO-GB'
} else {
location.href = 'http://ADDRESS-TO-ANYWHERE'
}, 'jsonp');
$(function(){
$.get( "https://ipapi.co/json/", function( data ) {
switch(data.country){
case 'US':
window.location = 'http://www.google.us';
break;
case 'KR':
window.location = 'http://www.google.kr';
break;
default:
window.location = 'http://www.google.com';
break;
}
});
});
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.2.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
you can use a switch case to do redirection base on the callback received data.
try this one
$.getJSON('https://ipinfo.io', function(data) {
if(data.country == 'America'){
location = 'your_redirect_url';
return;
}else if(data.country == 'Beijing'){
location = 'your_redirect_url';
return;
}
})
you can use $.getJSON function then location.href to redirect.
$.getJSON( "https://ipapi.co/json/", function( data ) {
if(data.country !== "GB"){ location.href="your site url"}
if(data.country !== "US"){location.href="your site url"}
});

Checking a URL in an if/else statement?

I'm trying to check a submitted URL (excluding any additional paths).
The user submitted URL is:
var inputUrl = document.getElementById("inputVal").value;
If the user submits 'http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask' then I'm trying to create an if/else statement that will determine whether the site is 'stackoverflow.com', regardless of 'http/https' or any '/.../.../' after .com
if (inputUrl == "stackoverflow.com") {
console.log ("stackoverflow");
} else {
console.log("not stackoverflow");
}
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
if(inputUrl.toLowerCase().indexOf("stackoverflow.com") > -1) {
...
}
A little trick to have the browser do most stuff for you (can be found at MDN):
var url = document.createElement('a');
url.href = 'http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask';
console.log(url.host); // stackoverflow.com
if (url.host == "stackoverflow.com") {
console.log ("stackoverflow");
} else {
console.log("not stackoverflow");
}
The same way you can also access other parts of the URL like protocol or hash.
$("button").on("click",function(){
var inputUrl = document.getElementById("inputVal").value;
inputUrl=inputUrl.split("http://")[1] || inputUrl.split("https://")[1] ;
inputUrl=inputUrl.split("/")[0];
if (inputUrl == "stackoverflow.com") {
console.log ("stackoverflow");
} else {
console.log("not stackoverflow");
}
}) ;
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<input id="inputVal" value="http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask">
<button>
submit
</button>

How to reload a jquery Datatable after the user finished editing operation?

I am using ASP.NET MVC4. I want to refresh my table after a user has edited a column.(I do not want to make it like when a user press enter, I want to refresh it when a user finishes writing and clicks somewhere else.This is my jquery script :
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#result').dataTable().makeEditable();
});
</script>
And this is my controller:
public string UpdateData(string id,string value, int columnPosition)
{
ObjectId oid = new ObjectId(id);
var query = from n in ObjectMongoCollection.AsQueryable<User>()
where n.UserId == oid
select n;
User user = query.FirstOrDefault();
if (user == null)
{
return "error";
}
else
{
if (columnPosition == 0)
{
user.Name = value.Trim();
}
else if (columnPosition == 1)
{
user.Surname = value.Trim();
}
else
{
user.Number = value.Trim();
}
ObjectMongoCollection.Save(user);
return "successfull";
}
}
I do not know which function should I use and where to put this function on my code. (I do not know why but fnDraw method does not work) Can you help me? Thanks.
Use:
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#result').dataTable().makeEditable();
$('#element').keyup(function(e) {
if(e.keyCode == 13) {
location.reaload();
}
});
if($('#element').click()) {
location.reaload();
}
if($('#element2').click()) {
location.reaload();
}
});
This method takes an optional parameter (true \ false), true means reload from the server rather from the cache, the default is false, meaning by default it uses the web browser's cache.
Edit:
Notice that 13 checks if enter key was pressed, number 13 = enter key.
You can use this formate
$('#myTable').DataTable().ajax.reload();

Javascript function "does not exist". Bad syntax but can't see it

The javascript is supposed to handle form submission. However, even if called with
script src="js/registerform.js"> Uncaught ReferenceError: sendreg is not defined .
The function is called onclick. Can be reproduced on www.r4ge.ro while trying to register as well as live edited. Tried jshint.com but no clue.
I will edit with any snips required.
function sendreg() {
var nameie = $("#fname").val();
var passwordie = $("#fpass").val();
var emailie = $("#fmail").val();
if (nameie == '' || passwordie == '' || emailie == '') {
alert("Please fill all the forms before submitting!");
} else {
// Returns successful data submission message when the entered information is stored in database.
$.post("http://r4ge.ro/php/register.php", {
numeleluii: nameie,
pass: passwordie,
mail: emailie
}, function(data) {
alert(data);
$('#form')[0].reset(); // To reset form fields
setTimeout(fillhome, 1000);
});
}
}
function sendpass() {
var oldpassw = $("#oldpass").val();
var newpassw = $("#newpass").val();
if (oldpassw == '' || newpassw == '') {
alert("Please fill all the forms before submitting!");
} else {
// Returns successful data submission message when the entered information is stored in database.
$.post("http://r4ge.ro/php/security.php", {
xoldpass: oldpassw,
xnewpass: newpassw
}, function(data2) {
alert(data2);
$('#passform')[0].reset(); // To reset form fields
});
}
}
function sendmail()
{
var curpass = $("#curpass").val();
var newmail = $("#newmail").val();
if (curpass == '' || newmail == '')
{
alert("Please fill all the forms before submitting!");
}
else
{
// Returns successful data submission message when the entered information is stored in database.
$.post("http://r4ge.ro/php/security.php", {
curpass: curpass,
newmail: newmail
}, function(data3) {
alert(data3);
$('#mailform')[0].reset(); // To reset form fields
});
}
}
I'm guessing here but... I imagine you are doing something like
...<button onclick="sendreg">...
And you have your <script> in the bottom on the code. Just put them on top or use $("#mybtn").click(sendreg)
Try using $("#mybtn").click(sendreg) instead of inline onclick.
The script wasn't called in the html. sorry for wasting time. A simple
<script src="js/registerform.js"></script> Fixed it.
There is no syntax error there, and I don't see any such error when trying the page.
The error that you get is that you can't make a cross domain call. Do the request to the same domain:
$.post("http://www.r4ge.ro/php/register.php", {
or:
$.post("/php/register.php", {

If Statement Not Acting As Expected

$(document).ready(function(){
logger();
});
function logger()
{
if(localStorage.getItem("status") === null)
{
$("#test").html("Not logged in.");
$("#buttonlogin").click(function(){
var ul = $("#userlogin").val();
var pl = $("#passlogin").val();
$.post("includes/logger.php", {type : "login", user : ul, pass : pl}, function(dlogin){
if(dlogin == 1)
{
$("#outlogin").html("Please enter a username.");
$("#userlogin").focus();
}
else if(dlogin == 2)
{
$("#outlogin").html("Please enter password.");
$("#passlogin").focus();
}
else if(dlogin == 3)
{
$("#outlogin").html("This username doesn't exist.");
$("#userlogin").focus();
}
else if(dlogin == 4)
{
$("#outlogin").html("This username and password don't match.");
$("#userlogin").focus();
}
else
{
localStorage.setItem("status", dlogin);
logger();
}
});
});
$("#buttonregister").click(function(){
var ur = $("#userregister").val();
var pr = $("#passregister").val();
var cpr = $("#confirmpassregister").val();
$.post("includes/logger.php", {type : "register", user : ur, pass : pr, cpass : cpr}, function(dregister){
if(dregister == 1)
{
$("#outregister").html("Please enter a username.");
$("#userregister").focus();
}
else if(dregister == 2)
{
$("#outregister").html("Please enter a password.");
$("#passregister").focus();
}
else if(deregister == 3)
{
$("#outregister").html("Please enter a confirm password.");
$("#cpassregister").focus();
}
else if(dregister == 4)
{
$("#outregister").html("Password and confirm password do not match.");
$("#passregister").focus();
}
else if(dregister == 5)
{
$("#outregister").html("This username is already taken.");
$("#userregister").focus();
}
else
{
localStorage.setItem("status", dregister);
logger();
}
});
});
}
else
{
$("#test").html("You are logged in.");
$("#buttonlogout").click(function(){
localStorage.removeItem("status");
logger();
});
}
}
The above code is meant to check whether or not a localStorage variable is in existence or not. If it is then only allow the log out button to be pressed. If is doesn't then let the two forms to work. Once it is done with either it is supposed to recheck if the variable is set and then do as I said above. However it ignores it when a user logs in and allows the forms to run. If you refresh however it works fine. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this is happening, and it is beginning to piss me off. Any help would be appreciated.
On your else statement, try adding:
$('#buttonlogin').unbind('click');
$('#buttonregister').unbind('click');
If I understand your problem correctly, what's happening is those events are registered when you first run $("#buttonlogin").click(function()....
It doesn't matter that you call logger() again and the if statement is false the second time around. If you want to disable these callbacks you have to do it explicitly.
