Invalid version specified, facebook share plugin error - javascript

I want to use the facebook share plugin for the web app I am working on, I only need the basic share button. The app uses requirejs for loading javascript, so I followed the how-to and changed the facebook api url to the one found in code snippets on facebook docs. This doesn't work and the sdk throws error invalid version specified. This is how my files look.

What is the best way of including only the facebook share plugin with requirejs?
I referred following questions, but none of them provide a concrete solution. Uncaught error: no version specified and wrong version error.

I was also getting the following error even when using the standard embed code that Facebook provides.
Uncaught Error: invalid version specified in sdk.js
The first thing to check is that you're including the version number in your FB.init call:

The now-outdated fix...
...was to make a simple tweak and changed the path:
From: //connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js
To: //connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js
And this fixed the error. Unfortunately I have no idea why. :-(

Consider including a version parameter to the src property as shown below:

The default template on Like button for Web is incomplete; upon clicking on the "Get Code" button Facebook will generate you a complete template with the version parameter included.

Minor heads up, I had to change
js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.8";
to
js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.8";

I ran into this problem when I was changing my file from HTTP to HTTPS. The reason was the lack of specific "HTTP:" or "HTTPS:" in the following code:

normally the '//domain.com' copies the scheme we're on, so when you're on htts://example.com a link to '//example2.com' will seen as 'https://example2.com'. For the 'fb-comments' you'll need to specifically state HTTP or HTTPS for the data-href.
Also note that 'https://example.com' according to facebook is another page than 'http://example.com'. So if you upgrade your site for SSL you will lose all past comments if you change the URL in the social plugins from HTTP to HTTPS... The solution I chose was to use HTTP for all older posts, and HTTPS for everything recent

There is (or was) an error in the source code on the Facebook Share Button Configurator! page. If you use the Share Configurator on the page, it should work fine. However there is a code example on the page that says 'Copy & paste the code example to your website...', which is bad code and will result in the button not being visible on your page. The javascript console will show 'Error: invalid version specified'.
I opened a ticket with Facebook in June of 2018 regarding this issue. They have acknowledged that it's a problem with the code and promised to fix the code example, but as of June 17, 2018 the bad code is still there on the site.

Google Auth OAuth 2.0 SvelteKit wierd behavior

I am using Google Auth OAuth 2.0 One Tap Sign and Sveltekit,
and I got some really weird behavior,

Sometimes it works everything goes well,
Sometimes I got
Uncaught (in promise) ReferenceError: google is not defined
And some mobile / mobile browsers I get
[GSI_LOGGER]: The given origin is not allowed for the given client ID.
but works on laptop

I got your code to successfully run without modification: https://google-signin-kit.vercel.app/ (This app is in "dev" mode so signin may only succeed with my Google account. If you clone my repo and set your Google client id, signin will work for you.)
I would check how my code is different from your code outside onMount(). For example, how did you include the Google javascript? I describe one major change below.
You also need to check your Google app settings. [GSI_LOGGER]: The given origin is not allowed... is fixed by adding the HTTPS app domain to your Google app "Authorized JavaScript origins." Non-HTTPS domains are not allowed. For example, these domains would not work:
https://google-signin-kit-leftium.vercel.app/ (Not added as Authorized JavaScript origin)
http://google-signin-kit.vercel.app/ (Not HTTPS, if Vercel did not automatically redirect to HTTPS)
Of course, raw IP addresses will not work, either.
localhost is a special exception, but not easy (impossible?) to access from mobile.
ReferenceError: google is not defined (sometimes) happens because onMount() runs before the Google script is loaded.
To get a consistent reproduction, USB debug/inspect Android Chrome and set "disable caching" and throttling to "Slow 3G." (I could not reproduce on desktop Chrome).
Fixed by removing defer async when including Google's script: <script src="https://accounts.google.com/gsi/client"></script>
It should also be possible to call a function after the script is loaded, but I got inconsistent results in SvelteKit. For some reason Kit doesn't always call the load function. Possibly a bug?
Ideally, the Google script should be imported, but I couldn't find a version of the Google script that was built for importing. You may be able to construct a library that you can import? Importing would compile the Google script code into your app, tree-shaking the unused portions. Thus saving a network request and bandwidth.
Another workaround is to have your onMount function check for the google variable. If google is still undefined, call your function again after a certain timeout.

Google Sign-In API Hang with uncaught error Failed to get parent origin from URL hash

I'm using Google Sign-In JavaScript client for months without problem.
But recently when user tapping on sign in button from webapp that added to homescreen, the signin pop-up just hang without showing any content.
When debugged via remote debugging, an error is displayed in console pane:
Uncaught Failed to get parent origin from URL hash!
originated from 4188232449-v2-idpiframe.js:136 (javascript loaded internally by google library).
I'm sure it's not programming/config error since the same webapp was previously working for months without problem, and I haven't modified any code.
I've tried google search for this particular problem and browse Google documentation for any recent changes in Google Sign-In API without any luck.
Is it bug from Google API Javascript client library, glitch from recent Chrome browser update on Android, or there is some changes in API usage that I doesn't yet aware?

P.S.: This problem is different with Uncaught Failed to get parent origin from URL hash since on that case the problem is caused by misconfiguration of required credential in Google API console.
If you never had succedded in integrating sign-in flow with your app, perhaps answer from that post can help you.
Otherwise, if you have had successfully integrated sign-in flow for some time but recently problem suddenly/erratically appears with symptom of blank screen on popped-up window, than you have same problem with me.
I can confirm we are experiencing the same problems at my company since recently. It seems a bit erratic, not 100% of the time. But for some users, some time, they are met with an empty sign-in popup with the url pointing to "https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/iframe" but nothing happens.
Not a complete answer yet, but this may be a reasonable workaround for some. I updated the ux_mode to use redirect and it is partially working now.

NOTE: it seems redirect_uri is required, contrary to Google's docs. This isn't a perfect drop-in replacement, but it solves the "URL hash!" error

My electron app started to fail today for the same reason. Been debugging quite a lot and I think found the reason, but don't know how to solve it, why it happened, or if it is electron or google's fault.
In my electron app, I have 2 webviews, one for the main content and another one for google popup dialogs.
So when google needs to open the authentication, it generates this IFRAME:

Mind that the URL has HASH parameters: your origin and the token.
However, when on the electron side I capture the new-window event in order to open the URL myself in another webview, the event I receive LACKS the hash parameters:

So what google's iframe is complaining about (I debugged it) is exactly that it can't find the origin and rpctoken parameters that should be in the hash parameters.
For a reason I don't understand (I haven't updated electron) the new-window event does not receive the full url anymore.
Using #howMuchCheeseIsTooMuchCheese answer below I have changed the flow to use the redirect callback, then capture that callback myself and restart the application. It is not ideal, but at least I can login into my applications.

How to solve Facebook Error 191 without having a website?

Me an my team are currently working on a software project at university and my present task is to bind our desktop javafx application with Facebook.
Basically I have an fxml method in a controller that is called when the user hits a "Share" button in my GUI. In the method I'd like to simply open up my .html file using a WebView:

There is no problem with it, my "facebook.html" file is loaded and displayed correctly (well, almost correctly) in a web view.
The actual problem is that I'm constantly getting the 191 Facebook error saying that the link is not owned by the application. Since there are tons of posts and questions on this around the Internet (and yes I checked and read all of them) here are the things that I'm already aware of:
I registered my application on the Facebook Developer site. I know about the AppID and Secret
I know that this error mainly comes from the fact that people forget to set their website URL and domain in the Settings. The problem is that I don't have a website. I just have a simple .html file which I'd like to use in a web view inside of javafx. However, I tried all possible combinations advised on stackoverflow, facebook help centre and other forums which include: Setting website URL to http://localhost/, domain to localhost, enabling Embedded browser OAuth Login, setting the redirect URI to localhost too, etc.
I assume that my goal could be achieved by using RESTfb, Facebook4j or Graph API. When I tried those I had to stop because I faced problems with the user authentication plus I thought this current option would be the easiest way (considering this feature has LOW-priority in our software).
None of this solved my problem therefore I've given up researching the answer and decided to post my very own personal question.
In my opinion there must be some error in the .html file and/or I completely misunderstand something in the way this works. The .html file:

Partially I have this code from a tutorial site. Theoretically it should work. All I want is a dialog to come up where the user can publish the results of the workout he/she completed using our software. Currently when the .html file is opened up there is a simple button to click. This and all the "Test" strings inside of the javascript are only for testing. I just want to achieve that I can post something on my wall. The next step would be of course to somehow set the posting text dynamically etc.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong or how I should approach the whole thing. Like I said, the task is minimal therefore it shouldn't be that difficult but I've been sitting in front of my laptop for 2 days without any success. I'm ready to post more code or give more information if it's needed.

Jquery internal ajax (get) not working on phonegap + android 2.2

I don't know for sure if the problem is in the request or in the display of the results, but this is not working for me, when I tap on the link on the phone I get a white screen, on desktop (Chrome) works without problems.

What is the URL within the href?
Is it an external URL or a local path?

I solved the problem by adding the last parameter 'dataType' as 'html' on the get call, for some reason it was assuming another type of content (xml or json I guess). Everything is working fine now :)

Hosting phono (jquery softphone plugin) dependencies locally?

This may be too obscure a question, but perhaps someone can spot what I'm doing wrong.
Phono (jquery plugin for javascript/flash-based softphone built on top of Tropo/Voxeo) loads a couple of dependencies from the phono.com servers. Namely,
flensed.js
checkplayer.js
swfobject.js
phono.audio.swf
I would very much like to avoid loading these dependencies from an external server (for obvious reasons) and going by this thread on their forums (which I can't register for because it appears every possible username has been "taken") , it should be possible to host them locally.
Here's a prettified source for the main jquery plugin. Maybe I'm just bad at looking, but I could not find a commented, un-minified version either in their full SDK or on github.
So after changing

... all dependencies seem to load just fine, phono successfully grabs a session ID and chats by SIP appear to be working. When I try to dial out or call the session id/SIP, however, I get a javascript error:
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method 'start' of null
referring to line 770 : h.start().
this.$flash.play(g, j); appears to return null or undefined. I suck at javascript and can't figure out why.
EDIT - if anyone would be so adventurous as to try this out, you can just grab their "kitchen sink" demo and slap it up on a server without much hassle.
Okay -- this is ridiculous and I'm an idiot for not catching it sooner.
Flash was trying to load the ringtones off my server at the URL that requires authentication. Unfortunately, flash is not a user with a valid session. Hence, flash was grabbing big handful of nothing. Sorry.

I just tried it using Apache on my localhost it worked without editing anything.
