making dropdown menu with jQuery - javascript

I'm having a problem getting a dropdown image menu to display properly in my browser.
The code is as follows
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>jquery test</title>
<style>
#webmenu{
width:340px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(window).load(function() { // makes sure the whole site is loaded
$("body select").msDropDown();
})
</script>
<select name="webmenu" id="webmenu">
<option value="calendar" title="http://www.abe.co.nz/edit/image_cache/Hamach_300x60c0.JPG"></option>
<option value="shopping_cart" title="http://www.nationaldirectory.com.au/sites/itchnomore/thumbs/screenshot2013-01-23at12.05.50pm_300_60.png"></option>
<option value="cd" title="http://www.mitenterpriseforum.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/MIT_EF_logo_300x60.jpg"></option>
</select>
</body>
</html>
I found the original code on github at http://jsfiddle.net/GHzfD/357/ but have not been able to reproduce it - am I making some kind of fundamental mistake?

Missing msdropdown plugins
msdropdown and css
Include this code befor you call msdropdown
<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://www.marghoobsuleman.com/mywork/jcomponents/image-dropdown/samples/css/msdropdown/dd.css">
<script src="http://www.marghoobsuleman.com/mywork/jcomponents/image-dropdown/samples/js/msdropdown/jquery.dd.min.js"></script>
in jsFiddle these external links are included too on the left panel here is snapshot .
Also read What is the difference between $(window).load and $(document).ready?
Update after OP's comment
You are placing msdropdown plugin before you have included jQuery file .
msdropdown is a jQuery plugin so jQuery file must be added before the plugin script is called.
So it should look like this:
put your scripts at bottom of the page and css at the top to improve page load speed.
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.marghoobsuleman.com/mywork/jcomponents/image-dropdown/samples/js/msdropdown/jquery.dd.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("body select").msDropDown();
});
</script>

Pagination in one HTML file

Here is working example https://www.codeply.com/go/bp/lxa0FF9yhw# that I need to work in one html file.
I am using this template to merge HTML, Css and javascript:
<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">
CSS goes here
</style>
<script type="text/javascript">
JS goes here
</script>
</head>
<body>
HTML goes here
</body>
</html>
But as a result I see all lines of table instead of pages.
Is this a problem with Bootstraping? I am including jQuery and javascript
<script src='http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-3.2.1.js'></script>
<script src='script.js' type="text/javascript"></script>
I still see all lines in a result. I tried this code in https://jsfiddle.net/tfyqwLkr/. It also shows all lines of table.
How to include all required elements in this case?
Try placing your Javascript just before the body end tag: </body>.
You might be calling DOM elements that haven't been parsed yet.
<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">
/* CSS goes here */
</style>
</head>
<body>
<!-- HTML goes here -->
<script src='http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-3.2.1.js'></script>
<script src='script.js' type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
// JS goes here
</script>
</body>
</html>
EDIT: After posting your code, looks like you are trying to call size(), a deprecated method since jQuery 3.0.
Note: This method has been removed in jQuery 3.0. Use the .length property instead.
That throws some errors in the console. Change children.size() to children.length.
Check the updated Fiddle. (Line 23)

Jquery select div element included in php file?

I'm pretty new to JQuery and I may be missing a few things about it.
I have created a .php file which contains the header of my website. I included it into my main .php file. The "header.php" contains a 'div class= userbox_rectangle_full_header' that I would like to select from a JQuery loaded in the main "homepage.php".
I tried selecting it to show an alert on the click of the 'div'. When the Jquery is loaded in the "header.php", no problem, the alert correctly shows. But nothing happens when the .js file is loaded in "homepage.php".
Hope you'll be able to help me about what I'm missing.
The main homepage in which I load the JQuery:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset = "utf-8" />
<title>DSI Welcome</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/homepage.css" />
</head>
<body>
<header>
<?php include 'header.php';?>
</header>
<div class="work_space" id="homepage_work_space">HOMEPAGE</div>
<div class="work_space" id="userpage_work_space">USERPAGE</div>
</body>
<script src="../js/jquery-3.3.1.js"></script>
<script src="../js/jquery_color_animation.js"></script>
<script src="../js/script/homepage_script.js"></script>
</html>
The "header.php" file which I include into the main "homepage.php":
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<title>Header</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/header.css" />
</head>
<body>
<header>
<div class="userbox_rectangle_full_header">&nbsp</div>
</header>
</body>
<script src="../js/jquery-3.3.1.js"></script>
<script src="../js/jquery_color_animation.js"></script>
<script src="../js/script/header_animation.js"></script>
</html>
Finally, the JQuery code which is not working when loaded in the "homepage.php", but working when loaded in the "header.php":
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#homepage_work_space').on('click', function(){
alert('hi');
});
});
Thank you in advance !
There is some points in your code thats better to know .
Your html structure is wrong! simple html5 structure:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Title of the document</title>
<!-- Your JQuery Main File -->
</head>
<body>
Content of the document......
</body>
</html>
Define your main jquery file in head of your body.
Your document has 2 <body> tag . (one your main body and other included from header.php )
Define your script files(except jquery that defined in head) in the footer , just before </body>
And in your header.php file dont define any script!
Have a good time!
It looks like you're loading in the scripts outside of the body. Make sure to load them inside your <head> tags.
here's a copy and paste from the revision history of the question, in order to demonstrate how the HTML markup should look alike, according to the op's description ...
file index.php:
<html>
<head>
<script src="../js/jquery-3.3.1.js"/>
<script src="../js/jquery_color_animation.js"/>
<script src="../js/script/homepage_script.js"/>
</head>
<body>
<?php include 'header.php'; ?>
<!-- further content goes here -->
</body>
</html>
file header.php:
<div class="userbox_rectangle_full_header">
<div class="work_space" id="homepage_work_space">HOMEPAGE</div>
<div class="work_space" id="userpage_work_space">USERPAGE</div>
</div>
file homepage_script.js:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.work_space').on('click', function(){
alert('hi');
});
});
I'd suggest Twig or any other PHP template-engine, which are frameworks specialized on rendering HTML markup, including template bits, etc.

DatePicker jquery UI not working

I am trying to build my personal website using express and want to put a datepicker on one of the page.
I tried to change the ejs file of this page, however, nothing works.
I am wondering if it is because that the layout.ejs file exists, and wondering how can I just load jquery-ui in only of the ejs.file? Because I cannot find any related npm to install . Many thanks for answering!XD

$(function() {
$( "#datepick" ).datepicker();
});

<aside class="widget">

There is another similar question, but I think the answer does not works for me.
node.js - DatePicker jquery UI not workinng
When I just use Express and change the index.ejs like the following, it works , but when there are many pages, it seems that it cannot be loaded...
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.16/themes/smoothness/jquery-ui.css" media="all">

<script>
$(function() {
$('#datepick').datepicker();

node.js - DatePicker jquery UI not workinng
For whom run into the same problem, this is the reference.
I finally found the answer by checking the code.I was unable to load JQuery for in the layout.ejs, I retyped the following in order to load the bootstrap, but actually by using https://npmjs.org/package/twitter-bootstrap-node twitter-bootstrap-node, there is no-need to load the javascripts again. This may be a common problems for beginners in Node.JS like me.Hope this answer can be helpful to people who run into the same problem and the code is in the answer of the related problem.
<script src="/javascripts/jquery.js"></script>
<script src="/javascripts/bootstrap.js"></script>
<script src="/vendor/twitter/less/bootstrap.less"></script>
Hi look at this jsfiddle link http://jsfiddle.net/w7PHj/
you need to use like this....
$('#datepick').datepicker();

Script Elements Not Including Files and Empty in FIrebug

Some of my sites are fine but others I go to create from scratch like so:
<?php
define("NAME", "Terrasoft");
?><!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title><?=NAME?></title>
</head>
<script href="http://yourjavascript.com/8953781221/date.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script href="assets/js/jquery-1.10.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
(function($) {
$(function() {
$("#date").html(Date.parse("today"));
});
})(jQuery);
</script>
<style type="text/css">
#date {
font-weight: bold;
}
</style>
<body>
<div>
Welcome to the <strong>Terrasoft Development Server</strong>. This page was output at a system time of <strong><?=date("g:i:s A")?></strong> on <strong><?=date("F j<\s\u\p>S</s\u\p>")?></strong>. The current local time is <span id="date"></span>.
</div>
</body>
</html>
... and the script elements at the top do not get included and have no content inside Firebug. I am online—that's not the issue. I get jQuery is not defined. Any ideas? Thanks.
Script tags do not have the href attribute, use src.
<script src="http://yourjavascript.com/8953781221/date.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="assets/js/jquery-1.10.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
You should be aware that href attributes are for <a> tags/anchor.
the src attribute specifies the URL of an external script file.
Note: Point to the external script file exactly where the script is written.
Syntax:
<script src="URL">

jQuery dialog won't open when loading page

I am new to javascript and am trying to make a simple dialog open when the page opens, but it simply just displays the text of the dialog as if its a normal paragraph, no dialog. Here's my index.html:
<html xmlns=\ "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml\" xml:lang=\"en\">
<head>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Script-Type" CONTENT="text/javascript">
<script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery.js'></script>
<title>Welcome to Jetty-9</title>
<style type="text/css" title="maincss">
#import url(maincss.css);
</style>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
$("#dialog").dialog();
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="dialog" title="Basic dialog">
<p>This is the default dialog which is useful for displaying information. The dialog window can be moved, resized and closed with the 'x' icon.</p>
</div>
</body>
</html>
And my maincss.css simply puts a background image in for the body nothing else, and the js/jquery.js file is the latest version of jquery, and I ensured it is linked right by loading the page, viewing page source, then opening the js file by clicking it
You need to include jQuery UI to take advantage of the dialog.
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.10.3/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>
You are missing jQuery UI. Include the below code in head of your page.
<link href='http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.10.3/themes/black-tie/jquery-ui.min.css' rel='stylesheet' />
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.10.3/jquery-ui.min.js'></script>
Visit here for more CDN links of various versions of jquery ui & its themes.
you have to import the JQuery UI's api's AFTER the JQuery main file
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.3/jquery-ui.js"></script>
This way is should work:
<html xmlns=\ "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml\" xml:lang=\"en\">
<head>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Script-Type" CONTENT="text/javascript">
<script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery.js'></script>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.3/jquery-ui.js"></script>
<title>Welcome to Jetty-9</title>
<style type="text/css" title="maincss">
#import url(maincss.css);
</style>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
$("#dialog").dialog();
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="dialog" title="Basic dialog">
<p>This is the default dialog which is useful for displaying information. The dialog window can be moved, resized and closed with the 'x' icon.</p>
</div>
</body>
</html>
I'll assume you're trying to use jquery-ui dialog, if this is the case, you need to include jquery-ui files
These are latest versions from CDN
http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.3/jquery-ui.js
http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.3/themes/smoothness/jquery-ui.css
You could pick a different theme if required
Your code looks good and it is working. My guess is you're not properly importing the jQuery or jQuery UI.
Updated with reference to MaVRoSCy comments and take a look at this fiddle, working good.
