After a successful import of an Eclipse-Android-Project into "Android Studio 1.4", I get the error
"Please select Android SDK"
when I click on the button to run the application in the simulator, I can't find any way of doing that.

I go to build.gradle and click sync now. Then it worked.
Update :
File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files (Android Studio 3.1.1)
Tools -> Android -> Sync Project with Gradle Files (Android Studio 3.0.1)
Or You can click on the icon from the toolbar.
This answer may not help works for later version as Android studio Team work on making the tool more better, the way to sync may be different in the next version of Android Studio.
COMMON WAY that may helps is try to sync project and then Invalidate Caches and Restart Android Studio.

Some of my colleagues and I have faced the same issue on AS 3.1.2, but a simple Sync didn't help us. For us, the solution was a bit different:
File -> Invalidate Caches -> Invalidate
File -> Close Project.
Remove the project from the AS project selector window.
Quit from Android Studio
Start AS and open project again

Some of you are constantly facing this issue, and this "solution" fixes it only temporarily. At the time we started getting this error, we used gradle wrapper 4.6 and Android gradle plugin 3.1.0, but since then we went back to gradle 4.4 and we use it with the latest Android gradle plugin, and we haven't seen this issue since then.
In Android Studio 3 and above, for Windows, Mac and Linux:
File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files
Solved!
Or you can do this by shortcut key:
Press ⌘ + Shift + A (Mac) or Ctrl + Shift + A (Windows, Linux). Then pop-up a Edit-Text and write "Sync Project with Gradle Files". Then press double click on the option.
Your problem is solved! It'll sync your gradle file with your project file.

Just go to the (app level) build.gradle file, give an empty space somewhere and click on sync, once gradle shows sync complete then the Error will be gone
This is the easiest way to fix this issue:
Add a comment line to the gradle file
It will then ask you to Sync.
Click 'Sync Now'
Viola! You're done.
Now on Android Studio 3 and above, you can try to sync project with gradle like:
File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files
The menu structure and options have changed slightly as of Android 3.2.0. I fixed this error by changing the Module SDK in the following menu:
File > Project Structure > Modules > App File > Dependencies Tab > Module SDK
Make sure to hit Apply to save your changes.

I changed from API 8 to API 23 and the error message disappeared.
Press the first refresh button on the gradle vertical tab in Android Studio on the right
Press " ⌘ + Shift + A" on Mac (or "Ctrl+Shift+A" on Windows) and in the pop-up EditText, write "Sync Project with Gradle Files". After that double click on the appeared option. It will then sync your Gradle file SDK with the project file.
Follow these steps:
Goto Android Studio Settings
Search for "Android SDK" using search bar
Ensure the path to your android sdk folder is correct.
After that also ensure the path is automatically updated after a prompt in your project (local.properties) file. If not, do it manually.

I was having this problem on all versions of AS 3.0+. Syncing with gradle did not solve the problem for me. The solution from András Klöczl was the only thing that would allow me to get some coding done. The problem was, anytime I had to do a gradle sync, the problem came back. So I had to go through that process any time I wanted to make a change in my build.gradle. What ended up working for me was to downgrade my kotlin version from 1.2.40 to 1.2.30
My problem was that if I changed the project (for example opened new window of Android Studio with different project) this error happened.
So I read every answer in this question and the "clear caches and open the project again" solution wasn't so useful in my case.
Instead I discovered that if the Kotlin's plugin's version in Android Studio was lower than in gradle file, the problem appeared.
My setup was:
Android Studio 3.1.3
Kotlin plugin (in Android Studio) 1.2.30
Kotlin version in gradle file 1.2.51
What fixed the problem?
I updated the Kotlin plugin:
File -> Settings -> Plugins -> Install JetBrains plugin...
Then search for Kotlin and click Update. After update just restart the Android Studio and sync Gradle.
Just change build tools version to 25.0.3.. and sync now

Sometimes android studio just acts stupid and needs some kind of reset..
Go to settings.gradle file it should contain include ':app'
change it to include ':ap' and sync.
after sync, change it to include ':app' again.
It should be working OK now.
The simplest solution for this problem:
First make sure your sdk path is currect.

In my case there there is no selected java sdk version in project structure-
I had to select the -
1.Source Compatibility (1.7)
2.Target Compatibility (1.7)
as shown in image.
If you are using 'Profile or Debug APK...', then you might come across this error.
My solution is to first check SDK for updates in SDK manager: click on "Edit" at the right side of SDK location and go through to install any updates:
Then I clicked on "Logcat" at bottom of Android Studio and find out I also need to configure Android SDK, so choose latest Android API Platform:
After that, I'm able to run the APK in Emulator.
In latest android studio 3.3.2 the icon of sync project with Gradle Files is changed

For Android Studio 3.5, "File -> Sync project with gradle files" is enough.
Go to gradle.build file and click sync now

If your android SDK path is given and still you facing this issue then it might because your android studio not synced well, even you have clicked on "Sync now" link.
So for re sync it go to app gradle file and make any change or just give a space and now sync again. It will work perfectly.
In my case I downloaded a git repository for an android project. The project required minimum sdk version 21 and target sdk version 27. When I tried to run the project it gave me "Please select Android SDK error". I checked that I had already downloaded the required sdk files.
For me the solution was to "sync project with Gradle Files"
I am working in an established iOS app. I have backfilled the app to use React Native, and so far that part is working fine. The problems I am running into are:
The Xcode build takes a very long time, and any JavaScript errors will cause the initial build to fail
Once the build succeeds and the app is started (on a physical device), the initial launch says it is trying to connect to Metro, but it never actually does. Instead the RN view pops into place without downloading from the server. At this point I cannot refresh the JavaScript from the Metro bundler, it states that there is no app connected. Additionally, if I shake the device and try to select "Debug in Chrome" the screen will go blank and no longer respond.
If I do not try to open the developer menu and select "Debug in Chrome", but instead just force close the app, when I re-launch the app (not rebuild from Xcode) it will connect to Metro and download the JavaScript bundle like normal. At this point I can select "Debug in Chrome" and it will connect and work just fine.
All-in-all, this isn't a huge issue as there is a workaround available to me. However, it doesn't feel right and I would like to figure out what is going on.
My theory is that during the build process, Xcode is bundling the React Native code as if it is trying to do a production build (I have verified the scheme is set to debug) in a debug executable. I have tried detecting __DEV__ and it is true, so I cannot figure out how to get the app to connect to Metro directly after the Xcode build.

I am trying to use the cordova-plugin-health plugin for a phonegap app I am working on. Whenever I use the app every plugin works but this one. I am using the phonegap mac app to test on an iPhone 6s.
Steps I have taken:
Installed plugin with cordova plugin add cordova-plugin-health --variable HEALTH_READ_PERMISSION='App needs read access' --variable HEALTH_WRITE_PERMISSION='App needs write access' also I did cordova platform add ios
Used navigator.health.requestAuthorization later on tried window.plugin.health.requestAuthorization my ide WebStorm was able to detect the second but not the first.
Is there anything I missed/can I use this plugin using the phonegap mac app?

Phonegap Developer App is a tool to easily preview your apps.
Phonegap Developer App is a Cordova app itself, that loads your app code from a local web server.
The thing about the Phonegap Developer App is, as it's a precompiled app, it can only run the plugins that were included on the Phonegap Developer App at the moment of the build.
That means, most 3rd party plugins (like the heathkit one) won't work as they are not included in the Phonegap Developer App.
What you can do is to run your app in your device instead of previewing it.
To do it, run, with the Phonegap CLI installed and your device plugged in:
phonegap run ios
If you have Cordova CLI installed, this should also work
cordova run ios.
I am trying to debug a Cordova app that makes use of native plugins (for authentication, API access etc.). Therefore the app does not run from the browser/Ripple.
I am using Visual Studio Tool for Apache Cordova (TACO) now to emulate and put breakpoints/watches and single step through the code to debug. I am wondering if there are any good alternatives to single step through the code for Cordova apps with platform specific plugins.
It would be nice if it was possible to debug without relying in Visual Studio while developing. Are there solutions for this that work with other IDEs?
If you are testing on android while you're device is connected through ADB you can go on chrome://inspect on a new tab in chrome. When cordova app is running you can select inspect and debug like a web page your running app.
You can debug Android native code in Android Studio, iOS code - in XCode (on OSX).
Windows plugins code is best to debug in Visual Studio.
Visual Studio Code editor is handy to debugging the app (js) code (it also supports livereload if you have Ionic installed).
If you want to debug platform specific Plugin code then you have to use Visual Studio, Android Studio for sure.. Don't know about iOS..
I've used the [yeoman chromeapp generator][1] to scaffold out a Google Chrome Packaged App. The instructions for that generator say running the command grunt debug should launch the packaged app in the Chrome App container, but it doesn't. Instead it opens the packaged app as a regular hosted web app in a tab. Though I am a Grunt noob I'm looking at Gruntfile.js trying to figure out why it doesn't launch the app as a packaged app in the app container, but can't see where the problem is. What's the proper way to get Grunt to launch a Chrome App?
Had the same issue with the Yeoman live-reload—not great for testing actual apps with background js, native permissions, etc.
To manually launch a Chrome app from a folder, I've been using this idiom: ~/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --load-and-launch-app=/path/to/chrome/app/"
There's also this project chrome-app-livereload (blog post) which supposedly swaps out livereload's standard reload with one suitable for inclusion in an app.
You have to go to chrome://extensions, check the box Developer Mode and then click Load Unpacked Extension and point it to your manifest file. This will load your app in a Chrome App Container.
