How do I implement server-sent-events broadcast in totaljs? - javascript

Suppose that I have this scenario:
Client1 and client2 are connected in some kind of session1
Simultaneously, client3 and client4 are connected in session2
Now I want to broadcast event "a" to all clients in session1 only.
I've found this example:
https://github.com/totaljs/examples/tree/master/server-sent-events
But I didn't found yet how can I accomplish my goal.
Any ideas, please?

For this case is better to use the WebSocket. The answer for Server-Sents events (SSE):
controllers/default.js:
var session1 = [];
var session2 = [];
exports.install = function() {
F.route('/broadcast/{session}/', sse_broadcast, ['sse']);
};
function sse_broadcast(session) {
var self = this;
switch (session) {
case '1':
session1.push(self);
return;
case '2':
session1.push(self);
return;
}
self.throw400('This session is not supported.');
}
setInterval(function() {
if (session1.length === 0)
return;
var message = U.GUID(20);
var remove = -1;
// broadcast all clients of session1
for (var i = 0, length = session1.length; i < length; i++) {
var session = session1[i];
if (!session.isConnected) {
remove = i;
continue;
}
session.sse({ message: message });
}
if (remove === -1)
return;
session1[remove].destroy();
session1.splice(remove, 1);
}, 1000);
Client-side:
<div id="message"></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
function init() {
var el = document.getElementById('message');
var obj = new EventSource('/broadcast/1/');
obj.onmessage = function(ev) {
el.innerHTML = ev.data + '<br />' + el.innerHTML;
};
obj.addEventListener('end', function() {
el.innerHTML = '----- end<br />' + el.innerHTML;
}, true);
obj.onerror = function(e) {
el.innerHTML = '----- error<br />' + el.innerHTML;
};
}
setTimeout(init, 500);
</script>

After you add something into _ItemsInCart, set _ItemsInCart as data in localstorage.
Before you want to get something from _ItemsInCart, get data from localstorage first and set it to _ItemsInCart.
_ItemsInCart should always sync with your data in localstorage.
How to use localstorage:

Advice: If possible, separate your DOM manipulating code with your logic code.

How to execute if conditional just once

I am wondering me how I do that, because all the time the variable returns to your default value. It's an Ibeacon application, I don't know if I need to show more details about my app. I just want to call the function something once, can anyone help me?

use localStorage: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Web/API/Window/localStorage
localStorage (and sessionStorage) let you keep persistent values
function something() {
localStorage.setItem("somethingCalled", "yes");
if(quit) {
window.open("info.html");
}
quit = true;
}
then where you call something():
if (localStorage.getItem("somethingCalled")!="yes") {
something()
}
you may whant to use sessionStorage instead of localStorage (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Window/sessionStorage)

add an object or edit if exist (indexeddb)

I have this code and i can add or edit the object if exists, but the "for" finish before the function onsuccess is called, then the index "for" is bad.
How to pass the index onSuccess?
Help!!!
var active = dataBase.result;
var data = "";
var object = "";
var index = null;
var request;
$(".layers").promise().done(function () {
var elements = document.getElementsByClassName('layers');
for (var i = 0; typeof (elements[i]) != 'undefined'; i++) {
if (elements[i].getAttribute("src").split("/")[4] !== "alpha.png") {
data = active.transaction([elements[i].getAttribute("src").split("/")[3]], "readwrite");
object = data.objectStore(elements[i].getAttribute("src").split("/")[3]);
index = object.index("by_Name");
request = index.get(String(elements[i].getAttribute("src").split("/")[4] + "/" + elements[i].getAttribute("src").split("/")[6]));
request.onsuccess = function (e) {
var result = e.target.result;
if (result === undefined) {
var resultPut = object.put({
Name: String(elements[i].getAttribute("src").split("/")[4] + "/" + elements[i].getAttribute("src").split("/")[6]),
Count: 1,
Type: String(elements[i].getAttribute("src").split("/")[4])
});
resultPut.onerror = function (e) {
alert(resultPut.error.name + '\n\n' + resultPut.error.message);
};
} else {
result.Count++;
var requestUpdate = object.put(result);
requestUpdate.onerror = function (event) {
alert(requestUpdate.error.name + '\n\n' + requestUpdate.error.message);
};
}
}(event);
}
}
alert("Finish");
})
The thing is that, by the time the for has ended, the transactions with the object store are not. What you could try is to encapsulate the index like this:
for(var i = 0; i < elements.length; i++) {
(function(myElement) {
if (myElement.getAttribute("src").split("/")[4] !== "alpha.png") {
...
}
})(elements[i]);
}

chrome Event is not dispatched

I'm having a little problem. I thought I had understood Event Handling, but now I don't think so anymore.
I've created a Chrome Event():
this.onReadLine = new chrome.Event();
this event is dispatched in a function:
this.onReadLine.dispatch(line);
before the dispatch instruction I've tried to log 'line', the argument of the dispatch instruction. No problem, 'line' exists.
Going straight down with the code you will find this part:
connection.onReadLine.addListener(function(line) {
logJSON(line);
});
this is what must be fired every time the onReadLine event is dispatched.
The problem is that the Event onReadLine is only dispatched when I push or release the button '#dimmer1_Chrome_Input' defined at the end of my code.
Where I'm wrong?
My full code here. The parts related to problem are highlighted with ////\///\/\///\\ lines.

javascript: How to build a function that refers to the variables in my Quiz app?

I recently built a small quiz application, it currently only has two questions. After all the questions are finished I would like for the app to present a page that says "You made it here" (eventually I'll add more). However for some reason the final-function feedback of this code is not working. Where am I going wrong?
$(document).ready(function () {
var questions = [
{question: "Who is Zack Morris?",
choices: ['images/ACslater.jpg','images/CarltonBanks.jpeg','images/ZachMorris.jpg'],
quesNum: 1,
correctAns: 2},
{question: "Who is Corey Matthews?",
choices: ['images/CoryMatthews.jpeg','images/EdAlonzo.jpg','images/Shawnhunter.jpg'],
quesNum: 2,
correctAns: 1},
];
var userAnswer //THis needs to be looked into
var counter = 0;
var score = 0;
var html_string = '';
var string4end = ''
//function to loop choices in HTML, updates counter, checks answer
var update_html = function(currentQuestion) {
// put current question into a variable for convenience.
// put the question string between paragraph tags
html_string = '<p>' + currentQuestion.question + '</p>';
// create an unordered list for the choices
html_string += '<ul>';
// loop through the choices array
for (var j = 0; j < currentQuestion.choices.length; j++) {
// put the image as a list item
html_string += '<li><img src="' + currentQuestion.choices[j] + '"></li>';
}
html_string += '</ul>';
$('.setImg').html(html_string);
}
update_html(questions[0]);
$('.setImg li').on('click', function (e) {
userAnswer = $(this).index();
checkAnswer();
counter++;
update_html(questions[counter]);
$('#score').html(score);
showFinalFeedback();
});
//function to identify right question
function checkAnswer ()
{
if (userAnswer === questions[counter].correctAns)
{
score=+100;
}
}
function showFinalFeedback ()
{
if (counter === (questions.length+1))
{

$('.setImg').html(string4end);
}
}
});
I agree with Vector that you either should start with 1 as Counter initialization or, to check
if (counter < questions.length) {
return;
}
alert('You \'ve made it till here');
I also rewrote it in a form of a jquery plugin, maybe a handy comparison to your way of working?

Hey guys thanks for your help. I was able to use the following work around to ensure everything worked:
$('.setImg').on('click', 'li', function () {

checkAnswer();
counter++;
$('#score').html(score);
if (counter < questions.length)
{
update_html(questions[counter]);

else{
showFinalFeedback();
}
});
