Dynamic values above column + jQuery Highcharts - javascript

I'm working with a stacked column chart from jQuery HighCharts like this. (fiddle link)
$(function () {
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type: 'column'
},
title: {
text: 'Stacked column chart'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Apples', 'Oranges', 'Pears', 'Grapes', 'Bananas']
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Total fruit consumption'
},
stackLabels: {
enabled: true,
style: {
fontWeight: 'bold',
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.textColor) || 'gray'
}
}
},
legend: {
align: 'right',
x: -70,
verticalAlign: 'top',
y: 20,
floating: true,
backgroundColor: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.legendBackgroundColorSolid) || 'white',
borderColor: '#CCC',
borderWidth: 1,
shadow: false
},
tooltip: {
formatter: function() {
return '<b>'+ this.x +'</b><br/>'+
this.series.name +': '+ this.y +'<br/>'+
'Total: '+ this.point.stackTotal;
}
},
plotOptions: {
column: {
stacking: 'normal',
dataLabels: {
enabled: true,
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.dataLabelsColor) || 'white',
style: {
textShadow: '0 0 3px black, 0 0 3px black'
}
}
}
},
series: [{
name: 'John',
data: [null, null, 4, 7, 2]
}, {
name: 'Jane',
data: [null,null, 3, 2, 1]
}, {
name: 'Joe',
data: [3, 4, 4, 2, 5]
}]
});
});
As you can see there's the total number above each column of the total of the number. But I need something else. I want my first bar to be 100%. And then I need to calculate the percentage of the other 2 columns and place those numbers above the column. How can I make them dynamic?

What you can do here is extend the point properties and add in a new field that gets shown in the dataLabels. You would need to preprocess what these percentages would be of course. The following example assumes you have already calculated the percentage values:
plotOptions: {
series: {
dataLabels: {
enabled: true,
format: '{point.perc} %'
}
}
}
The point.perc is the point's perc property we made up and it contains the percentage values you calculated already.
In the data array you can have this format:
series: [{
data: [{y: 29.9, perc: 100}, {y:71., perc: 50}, {y:106.4, perc: 30}, {y:129.2, perc: 20}]
}]

How to plot line per category in highcharts?

I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to plot a line per category in highcharts, i've tried for a while following this doc and my current chart looks like this:
What i want to achieve is something like this:
with each line stoping on the next category, this way i can set "goals" per category.
My code so far
Highcharts.chart('container', {
chart: {
type: 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Historic World Population by Region'
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Source: Wikipedia.org'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Africa', 'America', 'Asia', 'Europe', 'Oceania'],
title: {
text: null
}
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Population (millions)',
align: 'high'
},
labels: {
overflow: 'justify'
},
plotLines: [{
color: 'red',
value: 300,
width: 2
}]
},
tooltip: {
valueSuffix: ' millions'
},
plotOptions: {
bar: {
dataLabels: {
enabled: false
}
}
},
legend: {
layout: 'vertical',
align: 'right',
verticalAlign: 'top',
x: -40,
y: 80,
floating: true,
borderWidth: 1,
backgroundColor: ((Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.legendBackgroundColor) || '#FFFFFF'),
shadow: true
},
credits: {
enabled: false
},
series: [{
name: 'Gastos',
data: [107, 31, 635, 203, 2],
color: '#f25a41'
}, {
name: 'Renda',
data: [133, 156, 947, 408, 6],
color: '#5c90f9'
}]
});
The easiest way would be to create custom marker for each category using Renderer.path() function.

Hide Category in Highchart if all data is null

This is a sample fiddle : JSFIDDLE
Code
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type: 'column'
},
title: {
text: 'Stacked column chart'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Apples', 'Oranges', 'Pears', 'Grapes', 'Bananas']
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Total fruit consumption'
},
stackLabels: {
enabled: true,
style: {
fontWeight: 'bold',
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.textColor) || 'gray'
}
}
},
legend: {
align: 'right',
x: -100,
verticalAlign: 'top',
y: 20,
floating: true,
backgroundColor: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.legendBackgroundColorSolid) || 'white',
borderColor: '#CCC',
borderWidth: 1,
shadow: false
},
tooltip: {
formatter: function() {
return '<b>'+ this.x +'</b><br/>'+
this.series.name +': '+ this.y +'<br/>'+
'Total: '+ this.point.stackTotal;
}
},
plotOptions: {
column: {
stacking: 'normal',
dataLabels: {
enabled: true,
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.dataLabelsColor) || 'white'
}
}
},
series: [{
name: 'John',
data: [null, 3, 4, 7, 2]
}, {
name: 'Jane',
data: [null, 2, 3, 2, 1]
}, {
name: 'Joe',
data: [null, 4, 4, 2, 5]
}]
});
What I want is if all series data for the Apple category is null then the chart should not display Apple at all.
This is a multi series data, where as I want a solution for single series data or multi series data or even for any other type of chart like pie chart etc.
Thanks,

highchart stacked column total data per categories

I want to get the total data per categories. The point.stackTotal only gives the total of the active data.
From the code example I pasted, I would like to know the total consumption per fruit. So even if I clicked Joe's name on the legend on upper right part (that makes all Joe's information on stacked chart inactive), I'd still know the total consumption of Apple (and any other fruits) of John, Jane, and Joe on mouseover each bar categories so apparently, what I am looking for is not the point.stackTotal.
$(function () {
Highcharts.chart('container', {
chart: {
type: 'column'
},
title: {
text: 'Stacked column chart'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Apples', 'Oranges', 'Pears', 'Grapes', 'Bananas']
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Total fruit consumption'
},
stackLabels: {
enabled: true,
style: {
fontWeight: 'bold',
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.textColor) || 'gray'
}
}
},
legend: {
align: 'right',
x: -30,
verticalAlign: 'top',
y: 25,
floating: true,
backgroundColor: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.background2) || 'white',
borderColor: '#CCC',
borderWidth: 1,
shadow: false
},
tooltip: {
headerFormat: '<b>{point.x}</b><br/>',
pointFormat: '{series.name}: {point.y}<br/>Total: {point.stackTotal}'
},
plotOptions: {
column: {
stacking: 'normal',
dataLabels: {
enabled: true,
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.dataLabelsColor) || 'white'
}
}
},
series: [{
name: 'John',
data: [5, 3, 4, 7, 2]
}, {
name: 'Jane',
data: [2, 2, 3, 2, 1]
}, {
name: 'Joe',
data: [3, 4, 4, 2, 5]
}]
});
});
I think that you should be able to show the total value for all visible and hidden columns for your category using stackLabels.formatter function. You can get more information about stackLabels in Highcharts API:
http://api.highcharts.com/highcharts/yAxis.stackLabels.formatter
stackLabels: {
enabled: true,
style: {
fontWeight: 'bold',
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.textColor) || 'gray'
},
formatter: function() {
var x = this.x,
value = 0;
series = this.axis.series;
Highcharts.each(series, function(s) {
value += s.userOptions.data[x];
});
return value;
}
}
Here you can see very simple example how you can achieve something similar to required chart:

Best,

Can highcharts stacked percentage column chart be less than 100%

I have a requirement to have a stacked percentage column chart in highcharts display a breakdown of a specific percentage number rather than a breakdown of 100%. For example, if the number is 60%, the graph should show a breakdown of 60% (20% blue, 10% green, 30% yellow) rather than fill up to 100%. My understanding of percentage charts is they are always 100%, but wondering if this kind of manipulation is possible with highcharts somehow? Thanks.
Like what #Alden Be said, use stacked column with % labels.
Here is the JSFiddle example.
$(function () {
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type: 'column'
},
title: {
text: 'Stacked column chart'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Apples', 'Oranges', 'Pears', 'Grapes', 'Bananas']
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Percentage'
},
labels: {
formatter: function () {
return this.value + '%';
}
},
stackLabels: {
enabled: true,
style: {
fontWeight: 'bold',
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.textColor) || 'gray'
},
formatter: function () {
return this.total + '%';
}
}
},
legend: {
align: 'right',
x: -30,
verticalAlign: 'top',
y: 25,
floating: true,
backgroundColor: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.background2) || 'white',
borderColor: '#CCC',
borderWidth: 1,
shadow: false
},
tooltip: {
headerFormat: '<b>{point.x}</b><br/>',
pointFormat: '{series.name}: {point.y}%<br/>Total: {point.stackTotal}%'
},
plotOptions: {
column: {
stacking: 'normal',
dataLabels: {
enabled: true,
format:'{y}%',
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.dataLabelsColor) || 'white',
style: {
textShadow: '0 0 3px black'
}
}
}
},
series: [{
name: 'John',
data: [5, 3, 4, 7, 2]
}, {
name: 'Jane',
data: [2, 2, 3, 2, 1]
}, {
name: 'Joe',
data: [3, 4, 4, 2, 5]
}]
});
});
Use Stacked column instead of stacked percentage column, then simply append a percent to your label. Percentage column automatically determines the percentages of all data points provided, it sounds like you want the column to instead simply render the provided information.

HighChart Stacked Column label issue

I have a chart with values that are uneven, ie: First value is 1315 and second value is 1, and so on, and when displaying the chart the labels are being overlapped. I have already searched in multiple forums but no one had the exact same problem. Here's a fiddle to see the problem: http://jsfiddle.net/6LutjLc3/
$(function () {
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type: 'column'
},
title: {
text: 'Stacked column chart'
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['Issue']
},
yAxis: {
min: 0,
title: {
text: 'Total fruit consumption'
},
stackLabels: {
enabled: true,
style: {
fontWeight: 'bold',
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.textColor) || 'gray'
}
}
},
legend: {
align: 'right',
x: -30,
verticalAlign: 'top',
y: 25,
floating: true,
backgroundColor: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.background2) || 'white',
borderColor: '#CCC',
borderWidth: 1,
shadow: false
},
tooltip: {
formatter: function () {
return '<b>' + this.x + '</b><br/>' +
this.series.name + ': ' + this.y + '<br/>' +
'Total: ' + this.point.stackTotal;
}
},
plotOptions: {
column: {
stacking: 'normal',
dataLabels: {
enabled: true,
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.dataLabelsColor) || 'white',
style: {
textShadow: '0 0 3px black'
}
}
}
},
series: [{
name: 'John',
data: [1235]
}, {
name: 'Toto',
data: [2]
}, {
name: 'Matt',
data: [1]
}, {
name: 'Jane',
data: [72]
}, {
name: 'Joe',
data: [3]
}]
});
});
What I need to code is to give the value 1 one box where the label fits in as like any other example in highchart.
Thanks in advance for your help!
If your client demands use of this style of graph you can get better looking results by modifying your dataLabel settings. Setting overflow to false and adding a formatter function that only returns a value if it's let's say at least 7% (or whatever percentage works best for you) of the current total will help. See the following:
dataLabels: {
enabled: true,
overflow: false,
color: (Highcharts.theme && Highcharts.theme.dataLabelsColor) || 'white',
style: {
textShadow: '0 0 3px black'
},
formatter: function () {
if (this.percentage >= 7) return this.y;
}
}
