Modify a json array in hidden input? - javascript

I have a hidden input:
<input type="hidden" id="paidIds" name="paidIds" value="[]">
It starts with an empty array as its value.
I want to add and remove items from it but I cant work out how.
This is my code so far:
TO APPEND:
var $paidIds = $('#paidIds').val();
$paidIds.push($id);
$('#paidIds').val($paidIds);
TO REMOVE:
var $paidIds = $('#paidIds').val();
var $index = paidIds.indexOf($id);
if($index != -1) {
$('#paidIds').val().splice($index, 1);
}
$('#paidIds').val($paidIds);
So far one of the issues is $paidIds is still undefined after:
var $paidIds = $('#paidIds').val();
At a loss, and google is not helping -__-
EDIT
Got it working partly, in the debugger $paidIds = [4] but it did not set the value.
var $paidIds = JSON.parse($('#paidIds').val());
$paidIds.push($id);
$paidIds = JSON.stringify($paidIds)
$('#paidIds').val($paidIds);
EDIT2 fixed the missing #

You need to convert string to object.
Change:
$('paidIds').val()
to
$('#paidIds').val()
Try:
var $paidIds = $('#paidIds').val();
if($paidIds != ""){
$paidIds = JSON.parse($paidIds);
}

try to use JSON.parse when you read from the input, and use JSON.stringify when you set the input's value

I would suggest you store array an a data- attribute and use jQuery.data() to read it rather than parsing the value to an array.
HTML
<input id="paidIds" name="paidIds" data-array="[1,2,3]" value="[1,2,3]">
JS
/* Custom event to handle updates*/
$('#paidIds').on('updateArray', function (evt, newVal) {
var arr = $(this).data('array');
arr.push(newVal);
$(this).val(JSON.stringify(arr))
});
/* Useage*/
$('button').click(function () {
var newArrValue=$(this).data('val')
$('#paidIds').trigger('updateArray', [newArrValue]);
});

How to retrieve a specific object from a JSON value stored in sessionStorage?

I have this stored in the session:
What I'm looking to do is assign each object in the JSON as a variable so I can add them to the DOM appropriately.
This works but prints everything out:
if (sessionStorage.getItem('wc_fragments_aaf6a2e5b971cb51d59e8f3eae9b34c9') != null) {
$(sessionStorage.getItem('wc_fragments_aaf6a2e5b971cb51d59e8f3eae9b34c9')).appendTo('.div');
}
What I'd like is something like this, but it doesn't work:
var div1 = $(JSON.parse(sessionStorage.getItem('wc_fragments_aaf6a2e5b971cb51d59e8f3eae9b34c9', 'a.cart-contents')));
var div2 = $(JSON.parse(sessionStorage.getItem('wc_fragments_aaf6a2e5b971cb51d59e8f3eae9b34c9', 'a.footer-cart-contents')));
var div3 = $(JSON.parse(sessionStorage.getItem('wc_fragments_aaf6a2e5b971cb51d59e8f3eae9b34c9', 'div.widget_shopping_cart_content')));
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Getting the same value from the storage several times is not a good idea. In addition, you need better names for your variables.
var json = sessionStorage.getItem('wc_fragments_aaf6a2e5b971cb51d59e8f3eae9b34c9');
if (json) {
var data = JSON.parse(json);
if (data) {
var cart_link = $(data['a.cart-contents']),
footer_link = $(data['a.footer-cart-contents']),
widget_div = $(data['div.widget_shopping_cart_content']);
}
}
So it appears you have set selectors as keys of the object so you could iterate those keys to get each selector.
The propose of those selector keys is not 100% clear. I am assuming that those selectors are the elements you want to insert the html strings into and that $() means you are using jQuery
if (sessionStorage.getItem('wc_fragments_aaf6a2e5b971cb51d59e8f3eae9b34c9') != null) {
var data = JSON.parse(sessionStorage.getItem('wc_fragments_aaf6a2e5b971cb51d59e8f3eae9b34c9');
$.each(data, function(selector, htmlString){
$(selector).append(htmlString)
});
}

Get only word part of an id/name

I have a div element with lots of descendent's elements, all with ids in the form "word1", for a simple example: id="moviment1" or id="type1".
I need to get only the written part of these ids (moviment or type), in order to concatenate their names with a increment of 1 (id="moviment2" or id="type2").
$clone.find('*').each(function() {
var id = $(this).prop('id');
var num = parseInt( $(this).prop("id").match(/\d+/g), 10 ) +1;
$(this).prop('id', id+num);
});
The way it is, I always get ids like id="moviment12". I already tried:
var id = $(this).prop('id').replace(/\d+/g, '');
or
var id = $(this).prop('id').match(/\w+/);
But I always get errors like "cannot read property 'replace'/'match' of undefined". So, what am I doing wrong? Any other ideas? Thank you very much!
Ideally you should use a template. Traversing and modifying parsed elements makes your code slow and hard to maintain.
If you want to increment the number part of the IDs by 1 you can use the replace method callback function:
$clone.find('[id]').prop('id', function(_, id) {
// Assuming `id` is `test_25_segment`
return id.replace(/(\d+)/, function(num) {
// |
// --- is 25
return +num + 1;
// |
// --- parses the matching string into integer
});
});
Here is a demo using the above snippet.
Easiest way, you could just add those values as data-attr:
<div id="type1" data-id="1" data-text="type"></div>
So you can easily get them separated just using .data('id') and .data('text').
You may select the elements by this way:
var all = [].filter.call(document.querySelectorAll('[id*=type]'), function(el) {
return (/\btype\d+\b/).test(el.id);
});
and then you can change the ids using methods like replace()
Try this...
var onlyAlphabets = id.split(/(\d)/)[0];

Send text into input field only if it's empty

I have a portion of a form that "pops" out of it's normal place, and binds itself to the side of the viewport. When this happens, certain elements are hidden, leaving me with only the data that is immediately critical.
My problem is that I can't seem to get the copied data into only those cells with matching classes that DO NOT contain data.
I'm fairly certain the problem lies in my JS:
$('.spec-table-quote-button').click(function() {
var toCopy = $(this).closest('tr').find('td:eq(1)').text();
var copyInto = $(".part-number-input").val('');
$(copyInto).val(toCopy);
$('.add-field').click();
});
Here's a fiddle to see all the pieces: http://jsfiddle.net/UjPAk/
Any help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
Replace
var copyInto = $(".part-number-input").val('')
with
var copyInto = $(".part-number-input").filter(function() {
return $(this).val() == ''
});
.val('') sets the value of all the matched things to an empty string. It doesn't filter the match list to elements whose values are an empty string.
Use
var copyInto = $(".part-number-input");
copyInto.val(toCopy);
instead of
var copyInto = $(".part-number-input").val('');
$(copyInto).val(toCopy);
I think code is self explanatory.
try :
$('.spec-table-quote-button').click(function() {
var toCopy = $(this).closest('tr').find('td:eq(1)').text();
$(".part-number-input").val(toCopy);
$('.add-field').click();
});

Getting value of selected checkbox with jquery from checkboxes without id's

I have a number of checkboxes that are generated from a JavaScript API call from a database. I need to be able to pass the values of the checkboxes which are then selected by the user, and sent to the processing page. The issue is that the checkboxes don't have ID's associated with them(or this wouldn't be a problem) They all have the same name, but no ID's.
What is the best way to find which check boxes are selected, and pass their values to the following page?
One way I started was with an array:
var options = ["option1","option2","option3"];
var option 1 = [0];
var option 2 = [1];
var option 3 = [2];
On the processing page, using:
var option1 = getFromRequest('option1') || '';
var option2 = getFromRequest('option2') || '';
var option3 = getFromRequest('option3') || '';
Is there a better way of doing this?
I've changed the implementation to the following:
var values = []
$("input:checkbox.subIndustry").each(function(){
values.push(this.value);
});
passing the values to the success page with
window.location.href = REGISTER_SUCCESS +'&values='values.join(",")
which should then get the value with
var variablname = getFromRequest('values') || "";
This is returning Undefined. Any help?
An easy way to select them would be something like $("input[type=checkbox]:checked")
However, if you wanted to keep up with them as they are checked, even if they are added after you load, you could create a variable, then asign a delegation to the "change" state of each input that is a checkbox and update this variable on each change.
It's as simple as:
var checked, checkedValues = new Array();
$(function() {
$(document).on("change", "input[type=checkbox]", function(e) {
checked = $("input[type=checkbox]:checked");
// if you wanted to get an array of values of the checked elements
checkedValues = checked.map(function(i) { return $(this).val() }).get();
// make a string of the values as simple as joining an array!
var str = checkedValues.join(); // would return something like: value1,value2,ext...
});
})
Working Example
Since all your checkboxes have the same name, you can retrieve the checked ones using a variation of:
var checked = $('input[name=ckboxname]:checked');
see: :checked selector for more information
you can simply get the values of checked checkboxes by using
$('input[name=checkboxname]:checked').val();
this will give you the value of checkbox which is checked and for all values simply use
each function of jquery.
Turns out, the answer was to utilize indexOf in the underscore.js library. The solution had to be applied in the API being used to send data.
(_.indexOf(values, '9') != -1 ? 1 : '0'),

JavaScript: Why isn't my closure working?

The following code is only assigning the value of the last .enter_form input to the last MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form[key] (where key is the only thing that varies). I think it's because only the last value of the key is being passed to addEntry(), but I can't figure out how to get around that.
$('.enter_form input').each(function() {
var key = $(this).attr('id');
var val = $(this).val();
userDict[key] = val;
MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form = [];
function addEntry() {
return function(k) {
MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form[k] = {'entry': userDict[k]};
}(key);
}
addEntry();
}
Your addEntry function is redundant since each iteration is already run inside it´s own scope so key and val are preserved properly (hope that explanation makes sense). Also the array you where inserting into was overwritten each iteration as well, so at the end of the .each() you end up with an array with only 1 value. It should also be an object rather then an array, even if the id's are numerical.
// you where overwriting this each iteration
MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form = {};
$('.enter_form input').each(function() {
var el= $(this); // cache instead of creating a new jQuery object each time
var key = el.attr('id');
var val = el.val();
userDict[key] = val;
MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form[key] = {'entry': userDict[key]};
}); // ); was also missing
Should work.
It's a bit hard to work out what it's meant to do, but I think this is probably it:
MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form = [];
$('.enter_form input').each(function() {
var $this = $(this),
key = this.id,
val = $this.val();
userDict[key] = val;
MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form[key] = {
'entry': val
};
});
That's based on your saying that "...key is the only thing that varies" (presumably $(this).val() also varies, but I took your point). It will add entries to MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form for each of the form's input ids, as well as adding them to the userDict map.
As a side note, if the id values on the input elements aren't purely numeric, then I suspect you want to start with a blank object:
MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form = {};
// ^^-- change is here
...rather than an empty array:
MYAPP.list[0].responses[MYAPP.score.round].form = [];
...although since arrays are objects, it works even if you're adding non-numeric properties.
Off-topic: No need for $(this).attr('id'). Just use this.id.
