Retain form inputs upon page refresh - javascript

i'm programming in web using php, and javascript , and this is a general question i'd like to ask, normally upon page refresh everything that is in a textarea or input gets deleted;
Is there a way to retain the user inputs, typed characters or checked checkboxes?without saving into session? or do i really need to save it? Thank you!
(i'm not talking about form submit that leads to reload, but just plain typing into textarea and then pressing the refresh button.)

There's a tutorial on it on Toasted Digital.

Is there some way to simulate keyboard input or setting the input value WITHOUT using javascript element.value?

I know this is confusing and difficult because I have not code to show. Thats part of the problem, I dont really understand what is happening and I came here for some ideas.
In my job employees need to connect to two online systems.
The first one is programmed by me. Basically employees need to put some login credentials to enter our internal system to see their calendar, tasks, etc. Everything is good until here
The second system is a CRM site provided from an external providor. Users need to login into that system and the login credentials ARE THE SAME than the first system we have. We are loading this secondary page as an iframe inside the first system.
Considering our users already filled a login/password page I would like to fill automaticaly the second login form with the data we already have.
The problem is that somehow the login form of the CRM have some sort of validation system and if I use javascript to paste the login/password the "login button" remains disabled. The value is there and I can see it in the input field. That button only validates if an user fills the value with the keyboard or paste from the clipboard.
That is all I have at the moment and I dont know how to continue. Is there any way to simulate keyboard input or to ask the page to validate the content of the field? Any idea will be very appreciated.

Can I keep fields in a form populated even if I move to a different page and then back?

I am currently looking at creating a form using HTML, CSS and a bit of JavaScript. I was wondering though if anyone had any ideas how I could keep all the fields populated?
I want to be able to fill in a form and click 'Next' which will go to a different page with a different form. But if the user presses the 'Back' button to edit some information on the previous page for example, how would I keep all the fields populates?
Bit stumped on this, so any suggestions would be appreciated :)
You may use localStorage or cookies for that purpose to store content of the page on the client' side.
See https://stackoverflow.com/a/27273657/696034 for an example; in you case, you call save() when receiving location change event, and load() on the page' initialization.

Canonical Java EE way of checking for unsaved session data?

My app has a use case where there is a page where the user can edit data and press save or interrupt editing and make a search or click links. The framework is kind of odd and uses javascript to submit a form for every link that is clicked so we ended up with a mishmash of javascript and java hacks the facilitate the dialogs and checks for unsaved data which became messy and I had to ask about it:
How to exclude components from javascript onkeydown
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/12525020/why-does-this-code-create-a-loop
I either got dialogs that never ended, pressing "yes" to "You have unsaved data. Do you want to comtinue?" made a loop to another same dialog and when I tried to fix it nothing works.
Now the program works on the screen but the solution is messy and if there is another bug or we notice that my solution affect other component there will be trouble.
So I'm asking if you know a plain Java way to check for unsaved session data? What happens is a form is presented to the user and clicking a link when data has been edited should present a dialog thatwarns that data is unsaved. I think doing it without javascript is a better solution, can you comment and/or help me here?
No.
The user enters data in their browser; there is no way for the server to know this unless you submit it.

javascript error form validation: all inputs fields are cleared on submitting

am using a form to register the user on my website and i have a captcha security on it. Everything is working well and good but the only problem that i am facing is that if i enter a wrong captcha or somehow the page refreshes , all the data entered by the user is wiped out.
what i wish to achieve is that even if the captcha entered is wrong and the form is submitted , the form should have all the fields intact as the user filled in excluding the captcha field.
How can this be done? My form is html and by using javascript im validating it
Some browsers may be smart enough to do this, but if you want to make sure, the only way to retain data across a page reload/refresh (including form submission) is to keep it on the server, and/or put it in a cookie.
However, instead of using a submit button, you could use a normal button with an onclick() function which validates the data first, then manually submits the form if appropriate.
document.forms["form_name"].submit()
You also have to handle key events for the form text inputs, to prevent enter from submitting.
However, this is still much easier in the end, since it prevents the page from changing and doesn't require server side storage or cookies.

Chrome page refresh problem

Pressing enter inside a textbox refreshes the whole page in Google Chrome.
please help me out
Pressing Enter in an input field submits a form which, depending on your form's action attribute, may well be submitting the form to the same page (causing it to appear like a refresh). This is intended behaviour. If you're talking about a text-area, then that's an entirely different matter (and is probably relating to some custom JavaScript event).
If this isn't what you mean, you're going to need to clarify your question. At the very least, please post the excerpt of HTML that encompasses your <form> tags.
