If...then function for button press - javascript

How would I do an if...then statement for this piece of code?
$('body').on('click', '.icon-lock', function () {
var lockedarea = $(this).parents(0).eq(2);
$(lockedarea).find('input[type=text],input[type=checkbox],textarea,select').prop('disabled', true);
});
Right now when I click it, what I want to happen happens as far as those inputs becoming uneditable. However I'm trying to say that if this button is pressed, then this happens. And if it's pressed again, then .prop('disabled', false). However as I'm just starting out, I get confused easily when doing this sort of thing.

You need to keep track of whether you want to disable it or not in some sort of variable. Try this:
var disable = true;
$('body').on('click', '.icon-lock', function () {
var lockedarea = $(this).parents(0).eq(2);
$(lockedarea).find('input[type=text],input[type=checkbox],textarea,select').prop('disabled', disable);
disable = !disable;
});

Use some flag:
var isDisabled = false;
$('body').on('click', '.icon-lock', function () {
var lockedarea$ = $(this).parents(0).eq(2),
inputs$ = lockedarea$.find('input[type=text],input[type=checkbox],textarea,select');
if ( isDisabled ) {
isDisabled = false;
inputs$.prop('disabled', false);
} else {
isDisabled = true;
inputs$..prop('disabled', true);
}
});

Just replace your current .prop with this:
.prop('disabled', function (_, val) { return ! val; });

jQuery checkbox trigger change not working

I have the following JS function:
const bindSwitches = function() {
$(document).on("click", ".lever", function() {
var checkbox = $(this).siblings("input[type=checkbox]");
var hiddenField = $(this).siblings("input[type=hidden]");
if (checkbox.prop("checked") === true) {
checkbox.prop("value", 0);
hiddenField.prop("value", 0);
} else if (checkbox.prop("checked") === false) {
checkbox.prop("value", 1);
hiddenField.prop("value", 1);
}
$(checkbox).trigger("change");
});
};
It interacts with a switch component provided by the Materialize library. I have just added the final line, as there is some behaviour that needs to occur whenever a checkbox is triggered. But that change event never fires. I also have this function in my app:
const bindAllChecks = function() {
$(document).on("change", ".select-all-check", function() {
var checks = $(this).closest(".table, table").find(".multiple-check:visible");
if (this.checked) {
$.each( checks, function( index, checkbox ){
if ($(checkbox).prop("checked") === false) {
$(checkbox).prop("checked", true);
$(checkbox).trigger("change");
}
});
} else {
$.each( checks, function( index, checkbox ){
if ($(checkbox).prop("checked") === true) {
$(checkbox).prop("checked", false);
$(checkbox).trigger("change");
}
});
}
});
};
Notice how I use the exact same $(checkbox).trigger("change"). In this function it works perfectly.
I've tried changing the order in which I bind the events, to make sure the change event is definitely defined beforehand. I've made sure that the rest of the function is being triggered correctly and that there are no issues in that regard. I've also tried different variations of alternative syntax, nothing has worked.
Here is the code it is supposed to trigger:
const bindCheckboxOverride = function() {
$(document).on("change", ".checkbox-collection input[type=checkbox]:not(.select-all-check)", function() {
var hiddenField = $(this).prev();
if(hiddenField.attr("disabled") === "disabled") {
hiddenField.removeAttr("disabled");
} else {
hiddenField.attr("disabled", "disabled");
}
});
};
I still don't have an exact solution to the question I asked, but I have come up with an alternate method. Instead of trying the trigger a change, I have pulled out the functionality I want from the change even into its own function:
const bindCheckboxOverride = function() {
$(document).on("change", ".checkbox-collection input[type=checkbox]:not(.select-all-check)", function() {
handleCheckboxDisable(this);
});
};
const handleCheckboxDisable = function(checkbox) {
var hiddenField = $(checkbox).prev();
if(hiddenField.attr("disabled") === "disabled") {
hiddenField.removeAttr("disabled");
} else {
hiddenField.attr("disabled", "disabled");
}
};
So now I'm able to call this function directly from my other function:
const bindSwitches = function() {
$(document).on("click", ".lever", function() {
var checkbox = $(this).siblings("input[type=checkbox]");
var hiddenField = $(this).siblings("input[type=hidden]");
if (checkbox.prop("checked") === true) {
checkbox.prop("value", 0);
hiddenField.prop("value", 0);
} else if (checkbox.prop("checked") === false) {
checkbox.prop("value", 1);
hiddenField.prop("value", 1);
}
handleCheckboxDisable(checkbox);
});
};
It doesn't answer the question but I thought that may be of help to somebody. Would still like to know why the original code doesn't work if anybody has any insights.

bootstrap dropdown doesn't work as expected

I'm using dropdown functionality of bootstrap and I have this dropdown in container, but in outside I have wrapper, which is reacting on the same event (onclick), so I do
e.stopPropagation();
because I don't want to react on event in wrapper, when I'm clicking dropdown button. Unfortunately, this code also stops my dropdown event. Is it possible to avoid this behaviour and display only dropdown list, without alert?
https://jsfiddle.net/hms5265s/
Here is my solution.
document.querySelector('.container').addEventListener('click', (e) => {
if($(e.target).is("#dropdown")){
alert('work');
}
else{
e.stopPropagation();}
});
If you want your alert to be called on the click event of the wrapper but not the click event of the dropdown iteself you can try something like this
document.querySelector('#wrapper').addEventListener('click', (e) => {
var source = event.target || event.srcElement;
console.log(source.id);
if (source.id !== 'someId') {
// do some stuff
alert("I don't want this alert");
}
// you can stop the even propagation here if you want to.
});
Here is a JSFiddle
If you also don't want to assign an Id for your dropdown you can also check for a class.
here is my solution
Element.prototype.hasClass = function(className){
tClassName = this.className;
return tClassName.match(".*[ ]?"+className+"[ ]?.*") ? true : false;
};
document.querySelector('#wrapper').addEventListener('click', (e) => {
console.log('clicked' + e.target.hasClass('dropdown-toggle'));
if(e.target.hasClass('dropdown-toggle')) return
alert("I don't want this alert");
});
document.querySelector('.dropdown-menu').addEventListener('click', (e) => {
e.stopPropagation();
});
https://jsfiddle.net/hms5265s/6/
updated solution:
Element.prototype.hasClass = function(className){
tClassName = this.className;
return tClassName.match(".*[ ]?"+className+"[ ]?.*") ? true : false;
};
document.querySelector('#wrapper').addEventListener('click', (e) => {
if(e.target.hasClass('dropdown-toggle')) return
alert("I don't want this alert");
});
document.querySelector('.container').addEventListener('click', (e) => {
if(! e.target.hasClass('dropdown-toggle')){
e.stopPropagation();
}
});

how to prevent tab in jquery?

can we stop prevent blur or tabbing for 5 second in input field.then after 5 second user can tab from one field to another.I use off and on function but it is not working .here is my code
http://jsfiddle.net/GV3YY/99/
$("input").off("blur");
setTimeout(function(){
$("input").on("blur");
},5000)
You need to "lock" the inputs when they is focused and use setTimeout to "unlock" it after 5 seconds. A naive implementation could look something like this: https://jsfiddle.net/my7wk6gj/2/
Update: Now pseudo prevents bluring by click. The blur still happens, but focus is returned to the original input until the 5 seconds have passed. I couldn't get event.stopImmediatePropagation to work for blur, so this is the next best thing...
var lockInput = false;
var focusTarget = null;
var lockTimeout = null;
$('input').on('focus', function (e) {
if (lockTimeout) {
return;
}
lockInput = true;
lockTimeout = setTimeout(function () { lockInput = false; lockTimeout = null }, 5000)
}).on('keydown', function (e) {
if (e.keyCode === 9 && lockInput) {
e.preventDefault();
return false;
}
}).on('blur', function (e) {
console.log('blur')
if (lockInput && focusTarget === null) {
focusTarget = e.target;
setTimeout(function () {
focusTarget.focus();
focusTarget = null;
});
}
});
The global variables are used only for the example, i'd advice against that.
Also, if you have a large number of inputs, i'd suggest using event delegation, instead of adding a listener to every one of them.

How do I call live event with blur together

I have some question with these events.
My code is something like this:
dialogX.find('#inputExample').blur(function() {
var button = $(this).parent().find('#buttonExample');
if(!(button.is(':clicked'))) //this doesn't work, just test
button.hide();
});
dialogX.find('#buttonExample').live('click', function() {
alert('Test!');
$(this).hide();
});
The question is, when I'm on input (#inputExample) and later click on button (#buttonExample), blur is called and live event is never called.
***I have to use live instead of on, because JQuery version.
Someone could help me?
dialogX.find('#inputExample').blur(function() {
var button = $(this).parent().find('#buttonExample');
if(disableBlur)
button.hide();
});
var disableBlur = false;
dialogX.live('mousedown', function(e) {
if($(e.target).prop('id')=='buttonExample')
disableBlur = true;
else
disableBlur = false;
});

jquery beforeunload messages depending on button clicked

Im having problem altering jQuerys beforeunload() functionality, depending on user actions.
$(document).ready(function() {
$(window).bind('beforeunload', function() {
if (billChanged == false) {
return false;
}
else if ( savebutton was clicked ) {
return false;
}
else {
return "refreshing page without saving, huh? you're a bad boy!";
}
});
});
The issue im having, that i can't come up with a way to check if 'savebutton' was clicked, as typed in else if clause in the snippet above.
The form itself is quite complicated, and i'm not able to alter it that much.
$(document).ready(function() {
var not_saved = true;
$('#saveButtonId').on('click', function() {
not_saved = false;
})
$(window).on('beforeunload', function() {
if (not_saved && billChanged)
return "refreshing page without saving, huh? you're a bad boy!";
}
});
});
you can define a global variable. Change it's value onclick of the button, and then check it in your function
var clickedButton = false;
Then your html
<input type="button" .... onclick="clickedButton=true;">
and then in your function
else if ( clickedButton ) {
return false;
}
