I am trying to avoid my page being refreshed after submitting my form. In order to do this I've added into my javascript section
$("body").on('click',"#register",new_user_pop);
$("body").on('click',"#screen",pop_out);
$("body").on('click',"#new-user",pop_registration);
$('form[name=new-user-form]').on('submit',function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
alert("Not refreshing");
The function works properly as in order to debug it I pasted it on the Terminal from the Chrome's developer tools and it started working.
But for some reason I do not know it does not work it does not get loads at the beginning.
The previous function $("body").on('click')... work all fine.
Make sure your code runs after you've defined the HTML elements you want to attach your events to.
You can either do this by placing your script below the HTML bit you need.
Or you can wrap your code in an onready/load callback:
$(document).ready(function () {
/* code goes here */
});

I've checked many other answers on StackOverflow but none of them work for some reason.
I'm trying to use something simple like
window.onload = function() {
sleep(5000)
clickButton()
}
But as far as I can tell the button on a page I want clicked loads AFTER page load. So window.onload doesn't work at all. That's why I tried to use a custom sleep function to force the code to run after-after page load but nope. Code "sleeps" by preventing page from fully loading, then runs clickButton(), then the page loads. Useless.
I know my actual button clicking code works in practice because I just fed into the browser console line by line and it worked fine. But the button I'm targeting loads after my code is executed!
I have also tried these which also do not work:
window.addEventListener('load', function () {
clickButton()
})
setTimeout(clickButton(), 5000)
setInterval(clickButton(), 5000)
...
Also I'm using:
document.querySelector("[data-a-target='button-name']");
instead of:
document.getElementById("button-name");
since this button does not have an id.
...
Also I have never used jquery before if that is the answer.
...
How on earth do I get js to click a button immediately as soon as it loads?
The order in which you write your code plays an important role here.
Firstly, put the script tag at the very bottom of the body element of your html page. That forces the browser to have already read through the entire html page before getting to the script tag with your Javascript.
Secondly, I assume you have an event listener for a click on the button. Write the event listener before you let the button be clicked.
For example, I wrote this little code to test my assumption out:
button.addEventListener('click', function () {
console.log('Clicked');
});
button.click();
This should hopefully work for you too. Good luck

Below is a model of jquery.ajax() success behaviour.
Shortly: I managed to fetch data via AJAX. In this model example the data is represented by "Just something" placeholder. Now I want to add the data to the document.
<script>
var add_date = $("#add_date");
function add_date_ajax(){
$('.frame_date').append("Just something");
debugger; // 1
}
debugger; // 2
add_date.click(add_date_ajax);
</script>
A problem: the data appear and then disappear in half a second.
I placed breakpoints.
When the page is loading, it stops at breakpoint 2. That is correct.
When I click #add_date element, the script stops at breakpoint 1. That is also correct.
But when I click "resume script execution", the script again goes to breakpoint 2. This seem strange to me. As if the page is reloaded. Maybe that is why the added text disappears.
Could you help me cope with the problem?
Added later:

It disappears because you are reloading the page. The html
Add date
should be
Add date
To bind all your events, you should use the ready on document.
To avoid the reloading of your page (because of the href of the a tag), you have to call preventDefault or use a button.
You should write your code like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#add_date").on("click", add_date_ajax);
});
function add_date_ajax(event) {
event.preventDefault();
$('.frame_date').append("Just something");
}
I have used framework built-in formToJSON() to get the form values. I have used click event to console the value.
$$("#query-submit").on("click", function () {
var queryForm = app.formToJSON("#query-form");
console.log(JSON.stringify(queryForm));
});
It works fine when page loads first time. But if I changed navigation to other page and return back to first page.
On debug, I found click event is not working when I went back to form page.
Also found this warning in console.
What is wrong here.
Note All pages were loaded via AJAX
Try this:
$$(document).on('click', '#query-submit', function(){
// your code
});
I recently added a feature to our ASP.NET MVC web application. There's a page that is displayed when the user clicks on an item in a table. The page uses AJAX to display a partial view in a single div in the page's HTML. The partial view uses the Telerik Kendo UI to define and display dialogs and DropDownList controls. This is complicated in that the JavaScript imports are all on the View for the page, while the PartialView just builds the HTML to be displayed in the div.
The JavaScript I wrote on the page includes a jQuery document.ready event handler:
$(document).ready(
function () {
if ( $('#details-map').val() != '' )
$('#details-map').remove();
var urlTail = '?t=' + (new Date().getTime());
// Make the AJAX call and load the result into the details box.
$('#detailsbox').load('<%= Url.Action("Details") %>' + '/' + '<%: Model.Id %>' + urlTail, displayDetails);
}
)
This works fine when I run the application on my localhost. The problem appears when I deploy the page to our development server. In this case, there's an additional document.ready event handler that's emitted to very end of the page by the Telerik Kendo / ASP.net MVC extensions:
<script type="text/javascript">
//<![CDATA[
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
if(!jQuery.telerik) jQuery.telerik = {};
jQuery.telerik.cultureInfo=...;
});
//]]>
</script>
On this page, the $(document).ready event handler I wrote runs before the Telerik handler, and my code clearly depends on the Telerik handler running first. When mine runs first, I get a JavaScript error that says "jQuery.telerik.load is not a function'.
Since this does not happen on my localhost, how do I make sure that the second document ready event handler is run first?
Edit:
After more research, I've found that the problem is that the two scripts mentioned in my answer, which are supposed to be written to the page via the following line in the Master Page used by my page:
<%= Html.Telerik().ScriptRegistrar().Globalization(true).jQuery(false).DefaultGroup(group => group.Combined(false).Compress(false)) %>
Are not being loaded. In other words, the above line does nothing. It works on another page that uses the same Master Page, though. I've placed a breakpoint on the line and it is executing. Does anyone have any ideas?
You're either going to have to make it show up after the second one on the page OR do something I hate to suggest:
$(document).ready(function() {
function init {
/* all your code that needs to be run after telerik is loaded */
}
if ( $.telerik ) {
init();
} else {
setTimeout(function check4telerik() {
if ( $.telerik ) {
return init();
}
setTimeout(check4telerik, 0);
}, 0);
}
});
So, if $.telerik is loaded, it runs, otherwise it polls until it's set, and when it is set, it runs the code. It's not pretty, but if you don't have more control, it's probably your only option, unless $.telerik emits some kind of event that you can hook into.
After spending a few hours working on this, I finally got it to work. The problem turned out to be that two JavaScript files that are used by the Telerik DropdownList control and Window control were not being loaded.
In spelunking through the JavaScript on the page, I came across this script that was generated by Telerik:
if(!jQuery.telerik){
jQuery.ajax({
url:"/Scripts/2011.3.1306/telerik.common.min.js",
dataType:"script",
cache:false,
success:function(){
jQuery.telerik.load(["/Scripts/2011.3.1306/jquery-1.6.4.min.js","/Scripts/2011.3.1306/telerik.common.min.js","/Scripts/2011.3.1306/telerik.list.min.js"],function(){ ... });
}});}else{
jQuery.telerik.load(["/Scripts/2011.3.1306/jquery-1.6.4.min.js","/Scripts/2011.3.1306/telerik.common.min.js","/Scripts/2011.3.1306/telerik.list.min.js"],function(){ ... });
}
This script was emitted by a call to Html.Telerik.DropdownListFor() in my partial view. I'm guessing that the code to include for the two JavaScript files mentioned in the code, telerik.common.min.js and telerik.list.min.js, was not emitted since the call was on a partial view. Or I was supposed to include them all along & didn't know it (I'm very new to these controls). Oddly, everything worked when I ran it locally, so I don't get it.
In any case, I added two <script> tags to my View to include these files and everything started working. That is, I added the following tags to my page:
<script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/2011.3.1306/telerik.common.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/2011.3.1306/telerik.list.min.js"></script>
Live and learn.
I'm working on a extension for a fb game that adds some extra info to popup boxes, hides some useless information and run some timers so you can see how long till you have to do something even if you are not on the game page.
My problem is that a while back they went over to using ajax to change between pages and I am wondering if I am using the right approach to handle this.
I run a setInterval that checks if I am on a page where i want to add/remove soemting and i havent done it yet, if this is true I do my stuff, the code looks something like this:
function myFunction() {
if($(selector for some element I am looking for).length > 0 && $(selector for some item I add).length == 0) {
//do some stuff
}
}
setInterval("myFunction()",1000);
Is this the right way of handling ajax page change from an content script in an extension?
If so is there a better way to see if I am on the right page or if i have added to this page already other than doing a selection?
You can use livequery jquery plugin to catch when new element is created on a page:
$("#ajax-element").livequery(function({
//ajax-element is created
});
You can also listen to DOMSubtreeModified event which fires when DOM changes:
document.addEventListener("DOMSubtreeModified", function(event){
//something has changed, possibly ajax-element was added
});
There are also more specific DOMNodeInsertedIntoDocument and DOMNodeRemovedFromDocument events.
