The code below works prefect in visual studio 2010 but doesnt work on visual studio 2008,
if there any others exception that i miss out? what else i should check for in order to know what am i missing?
Noted* i can only received alert(starting) but not alert(end1) and alert(end2)
newest edited comments - i found that my jquery file is not loaded correctly, i dont want to use url, can provide me local src? i got few project file inside a solution, my Script folder is inside one of my project file, so what should my local src look like?

Use FireBug Console to check weather your script loaded or not..
add this line..instead of your jquery js file
http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.1/jquery.min.js
May be this is the error, try to call in doc ready:
$(function(){
ShowTooltip();
});
Try running it in $(document).ready(function(){ }. Also, there is no need to chain multiple css() calls like that. Try using the syntax of css({prop1: 'value1', prop2: 'value2'})

I was creating a button which will increase number on button click.
Like this:
<button>Create</button>
<p id="p"></p>
<script>
var i = 0
$('button').click(function() {
$('p').html(i);
i++;
});
</script>
It worked perfectly.
Then i added localstorage to it.
The code is like this:
<button>Create</button>
<p></p>
<script>
var i = 0
$('button').click(function() {
$('p').html(i);
i++;
});
$(function() {
var = document.getElementById('p');
$("button").click(function() {
localStorage.setItem("comment4", $("p").html());
});
if (localStorage.getItem("comment4")) {
.innerHTML = localStorage.getItem("comment4");
}
});
</script>
And it also worked perfectly.
Here is a demo Fiddle
My doubt is that, How can i change the var i = 0 to the next number?
So that if I open it with notepad(or something else) I have to see the var i = the next number
If i understood your question correctly this must suffice
var i = localStorage.getItem("comment4") || 0;
Although its impossible to change the contents of a file without a server side language
This javascript code is supposed to switch when clicked an image to images from a folder within the html file folder.
After it gets to the last image, if you click again it resets to the first image.
Also there's a fade in and out effect on the appearing images.
It doesn't work and I suspect I wrote the path files to the images wrong somehow and the .attr doesn't change the src of the first image to the others.
Things to keep in mind = an extremely beginner programmer, just picked up html and css in about 2 days, I would appreciate any kind of help!
This is the code:
$(document).ready(function() {
var imageName = ["head.jpg", "head3.jpg", "head4.jpg"];
var indexNum = 0;
$("#head1").click(function() {
$("#head1").fadeOut(300, function() {
$("#head1").attr("src", imageName[indexNum])";
//$(indexNum).css("height=600px,width=1000px")
indexNum++;
if (indexNum > 2) {
indexNum = 0;
}
$("#head1").fadeIn(500);
)};
)};
)};
You got a couple of errors in your code,
You swapped the closing ")" and "}" in the last two lines and you have a random " in the code.
Here's a working example:
$(document).ready(function() {
var imageName = ["http://placehold.it/200x200", "http://placehold.it/300x300", "http://placehold.it/400x400"];
var indexNum = 0;
$("#head1").click(function() {
indexNum = (indexNum + 1) % imageName.length; // this will count 0,1,2,0,1,2,0,1,2... always looping through your images
$(this).fadeOut(function() { //in this context, this refers to the #head, reading it from the DOM over and over again isn't efficient
$(this).attr("src", imageName[indexNum]);
}).fadeIn();
});
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<img id="head1" src="http://placehold.it/200x200" alt="">
Just a small note: Your script (and mine) don't take into account loading times, this means that it will probably work fine on your computer, locally, but once you put it on a server, you will see the image fadeout, then fadein and still be the same image and then swap to the new image all of a sudden. This happens because it has some loading time. If you want to fix this you'll need some other events. Or you could load all images into the page and then just swap the one that is currently shown.
Even thought this has been answered, here is a fiddle with your original code corrected. http://jsfiddle.net/goqz3coj/
Its better to see how your code should work instead of been giving a different code
$(document).ready(function() {
var imageName = ["head.jpg", "head3.jpg", "head4.jpg"];
var indexNum = 0;
$("#head1").click(function() {
$("#head1").fadeOut(300, function() {
$("#head1").attr("src", imageName[indexNum]);
indexNum++;
if (indexNum > 2) {
indexNum = 0;
}
$("#head1").fadeIn(500);
});
});
});
SECOND VERSION Waits for image load before showing again...
http://jsfiddle.net/goqz3coj/2/
By simply using .load you can wait for the image to load and then show.
$(document).ready(function() {
var imageName = ["http://placehold.it/200x200", "http://placehold.it/300x300", "http://placehold.it/400x400"];
var indexNum = 0;
$("#head1").click(function() {
$("#head1").fadeOut(300, function() {
$( "#head1" ).load(function() {
$("#head1").fadeIn(500);
// Handler for .load() called.
});
$("#head1").attr("src", imageName[indexNum]);
indexNum++;
if (indexNum > 2) {
indexNum = 0;
}
});
});
});
Jonas Grumann took your image urls as easier to show with actual images.
This has gotten so far,that I will sum up what we found out:
Inside the event handler the attribute src cannot be read in IE8 (FF works fine), neither with jQuery nor with usual javascript
The only way to get the data was to get it outside the handler, write it to an array and read it afterwards from the inside of the handler
But there was still no possibility to write to src (neither jQuery nor javascript worked - only for IE 8)
I've got it working by writing the img elemts themselves to the document, but the reason behind this problem is no solved
The snippet we have is used twice.
The old code
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
//...
//view entry
jQuery('.blogentry').live('click',function(){
// Get contents
blogtext = jQuery(this).children('.blogtext').html();
blogauthor = jQuery(this).children('.onlyblogauthor').html();
blogtitle = jQuery(this).children('.blogtitle').html();
profileimage = jQuery(this).children('.profileimage').html();
imgleft = jQuery(this).children('.Image_left').attr('src');
imgcenter = jQuery(this).children('.Image_center').attr('src');
imgright = jQuery(this).children('.Image_right').attr('src');
// Write contents
jQuery('#bild_left').attr('src', imgleft);
jQuery('#bild_center').attr('src', imgcenter);
jQuery('#bild_right').attr('src', imgright);
jQuery('.person').attr('src', profileimage);
jQuery('#g_fb_name').html(blogauthor);
jQuery('#g_titel').html(blogtitle);
jQuery('#g_text').html(blogtext);
//...
});
//...
// Change entry
jQuery('.blogentry').each(function(){
entryindex = jQuery(this).attr('rel');
if (entry == entryindex)
{
// The following works fine (so 'children' works fine):
blogtext = jQuery(this).children('.blogtext').html();
blogauthor = jQuery(this).children('.onlyblogauthor').html();
blogtitle = jQuery(this).children('.blogtitle').html();
profileimage = jQuery(this).children('.profileimage').html();
// This does not work - only in IE 8, works in Firefox
imgleft = jQuery(this).children('.Image_left').attr('src');
imgcenter = jQuery(this).children('.Image_center').attr('src');
imgright = jQuery(this).children('.Image_right').attr('src');
//alert: 'undefined'
alert(jQuery(this).children('.Image_center').attr('src'));
//...
}
}
//...
});
</script>
The new code
Please see my own posted answer for the new code.
UPDATE:
This does not work if called inside of the click event!!!
jQuery('.Image_left').each(function(){
alert(jQuery(this).attr('src'));
});
SOLUTION TO GET THE IMAGE DATA:
relcounter = 1;
imgleft_array = new Array();
jQuery('.Image_left').each(function(){
imgleft_array[relcounter] = jQuery(this).attr('src');
relcounter++;
});
relcounter = 1;
imgcenter_array = new Array();
jQuery('.Image_center').each(function(){
imgcenter_array[relcounter] = jQuery(this).attr('src');
relcounter++;
});
relcounter = 1;
imgright_array = new Array();
jQuery('.Image_right').each(function(){
imgright_array[relcounter] = jQuery(this).attr('src');
relcounter++;
});
//... inside the eventhandler (entryindex = 'rel' of blogentry):
imgleft = imgleft_array[entryindex];
imgcenter = imgcenter_array[entryindex];
imgright = imgright_array[entryindex];
This works because it is not called inside the event handler and the sources are saved beforehand
BUT! I still cannot write the data, which is my aim:
jQuery('#bild_left').attr('src', imgleft);
jQuery('#bild_center').attr('src', imgcenter);
jQuery('#bild_right').attr('src', imgright);
UPDATE!!!
This is just crazy, I tried to write the data via usual javascript. This also works in FF, but no in IE8. Here really is some serious problem witt the attribute src:
document.getElementById('bild_left').src = imgleft;
document.getElementById('bild_center').src = imgcenter;
document.getElementById('bild_right').src = imgright;
alert(document.getElementById('bild_left').src);
This works in FF, but not in IE8, the attribute src remains undefined after writing! This seems to be not a jQuery problem at all!
children looks for immediate child elements only where as find looks for all the elements within it until its last child element down the dom tree. If you are saying find is working that means the element you are looking is not its immediate children.
Try to alert this jQuery(this).children('#Image_center').length see what you get.
FYI. Even when any element is not found jQuery will return an emtpy object it will never be null. So alert an emtpy object will always give you [object Object]. You should alwasy check for the length property of the jQuery object.
Try this
alert(jQuery(this).find('#Image_center').length);//To check whether element is found or not.
Bing Bang Boom,
imgright = jQuery(".Image_right",this).attr('src');
And why don't you easily use one working?
alert(jQuery(this).children('#Image_center').attr('src'));
change children to find
alert(jQuery(this).find('#Image_center').attr('src'));
It is probably the easiest solution, and when it work, why wouldn't you use it?
the problem is not in the attr('src') but in something else. The following snippet works in IE8:
<img id="xxx" src="yrdd">
<script type="text/javascript">
alert($('#xxx').attr('src'));
</script>
But if you for example change the the text/javascript to application/javascript - this code will work in FF but will not work in IE8

The new code
relcounter = 1;
imgleft_array = new Array();
jQuery('.Image_left').each(function(){
imgleft_array[relcounter] = jQuery(this).attr('src');
relcounter++;
});
relcounter = 1;
imgcenter_array = new Array();
jQuery('.Image_center').each(function(){
imgcenter_array[relcounter] = jQuery(this).attr('src');
relcounter++;
});
relcounter = 1;
imgright_array = new Array();
jQuery('.Image_right').each(function(){
imgright_array[relcounter] = jQuery(this).attr('src');
relcounter++;
});
//view entry
jQuery('.blogentry').live('click',function(){
// Get contents
entryindex = jQuery(this).attr('rel');
blogtext = jQuery(this).children('.blogtext').html();
blogauthor = jQuery(this).children('.onlyblogauthor').html();
blogtitle = jQuery(this).children('.blogtitle').html();
profileimage = jQuery(this).children('.profileimage').html();
imgleft = imgleft_array[entryindex];
imgcenter = imgcenter_array[entryindex];
imgright = imgright_array[entryindex];
// Write contents
jQuery('#entryimages').html('');
jQuery('#entryimages').html('<img class="rotate" width="132" height="138" id="bild_left" src="'+imgleft+'" /><img class="rotateright" width="154" height="162" id="bild_center" src="'+imgcenter+'" /><img class="rotate" width="132" height="138" id="bild_right" src="'+imgright+'" />');
jQuery('.person').attr('src', profileimage);
jQuery('#g_fb_name').html(blogauthor);
jQuery('#g_titel').html(blogtitle);
jQuery('#g_text').html(blogtext);
});
So I am just not using .attr('src') in the event handler....
Try to make a delay:
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
setTimeout(function () {
jQuery('.blogentry').each(function(){
// your code...
});
}, 100); // if doesn't work, try to set a higher value
});
UPDATE
Hope, this code will work.
$('.blogentry img').each(function(){
alert( $(this).attr('src') );
});
UPDATE
I'm not sure, but maybe IE can't read classes with uppercase first letter...
Try to change ".Image_center" to ".image_center"
UPDATE
Check your code again. You definitely have some error. Try this jsfiddle in IE8, attr('src') is showed correctly. http://jsfiddle.net/qzFU8/
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#imgReload").click(function () {
$('#<%=imgCaptcha.ClientID %>').removeAttr("src");
$('#<%=imgCaptcha.ClientID %>').attr("src", "Captcha.ashx");
});
});
I have writtern a script to limit the number of characters in the textarea, and the code is here
<script>
function limitchar(charcount, counterId, msgId)
{
var tex = document.getElementById(msgId).value;
var len = tex.length;
if(len > charcount)
{
alert("Content Limit Exceeded");
tex = tex.substring(0,charcount);
document.getElementById(msgId).value =tex;
return false;
}
document.getElementById(counterId).innerHTML = charcount-len;
}
</script>
I am calling the function as
<textarea name="txtar1" id="txtar1" onkeyup=limitchar('10','verid','txtar1')></textarea>
I dont want these kind of ugly function call, since my textareas are dynamically generated
Like Jquery, I want my function to be called like
$('txtar1').limitchar();
Is there anyother way to achieve this. Thanks Experts! in advance
ANSWER :
Thanks for andy rose. I used his approach. Here is my final code:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#txtar1').keydown(function() {
limiter('10', 'verid' , this.id);
});
});
</script>
<textarea name="txtar1" id="txtar1"></textarea>
<span id="verid">10</span>
<script>
/* Will use as common.js */
function limiter(charcount,showcountid,msgId)
{
var tex = document.getElementById(msgId).value;
var len = tex.length;
if(len > charcount)
{
//alert("Content Limit Exceeded");
tex = tex.substring(0,charcount);
document.getElementById(msgId).value =tex;
return false;
}
document.getElementById(showcountid).innerHTML = charcount-len;
}
</script>
You might want to look at this blog entry from Mike Alsup in which he explains a pretty good pattern on how to develop a jQuery-Plugin. He also goes into very much details about further development and extending the basic plugin.
Rather than creating a new plugin why not use one of jQuery's key events:
$('txtar1').keydown(function() {
...stuff here
});
It's easy. Just do:
$.fn.limitchar = function () {
var $items = $(this);
};
$items will be a jQuery object equivalent to $('txtar1').
I had written one JS in asp.net. I had called that from body onload, but the JS doesn't get called where I have put my debugger. What could be possible reasons for this? I'm developing website in dotnetnuke.
The JS I have written is syntactically and logically correct.
<script type="text/javascript">
var displayTime, speed, wait, banner1, banner2, link1, link2, bannerIndex, bannerLocations, bannerURLs;
function initVar() {
debugger;
displayTime = 10; // The amount of time each banner will be displayed in seconds.
speed = 5; // The speed at which the banners is moved (1 - 10, anything above 5 is not recommended).
wait = true;
banner1 = document.getElementById("banner1");
banner2 = document.getElementById("banner2");
//link1 = document.getElementById("link1");
//link2 = document.getElementById("link2");
//banner1 = document.getElementById("banner1");
//banner2 = document.getElementById("banner2");
banner1.style.left = 0;
banner2.style.left = 500;
bannerIndex = 1;
/* Important: In order for this script to work properly, please make sure that the banner graphic and the
URL associated with it have the same index in both, the bannerLocations and bannerURLs arrays.
Duplicate URLs are permitted. */
// Enter the location of the banner graphics in the array below.
//bannerLocations = new Array("internet-lg.gif","jupiterweb.gif","jupitermedia.gif");
bannerLocations = new Array("image00.jpg", "image01.jpg", "image02.jpg", "admin_ban.bmp");
// Enter the URL's to which the banners will link to in the array below.
bannerURLs = new Array("http://www.internet.com","http://www.jupiterweb.com","http://www.jupitermedia.com");
}
function moveBanner() {
//debugger;
if(!wait){
banner1.style.left = parseInt(banner1.style.left) - (speed * 5);
banner2.style.left = parseInt(banner2.style.left) - (speed * 5);
if(parseInt(banner1.style.left) <= -500){
banner1.style.left = 500;
bannerIndex = (bannerIndex < (bannerLocations.length - 1)) ? ++bannerIndex :0;
banner1.src = bannerLocations[bannerIndex];
//link1.href = bannerURLs[bannerIndex];
wait = true;
}
if(parseInt(banner2.style.left) <= -500){
banner2.style.left = 500;
bannerIndex = (bannerIndex < (bannerLocations.length - 1)) ? ++bannerIndex :0;
banner2.src = bannerLocations[bannerIndex];
//link2.href = bannerURLs[bannerIndex];
wait = true;
}
setTimeout("moveBanner()",100);
} else {
wait = false;
setTimeout("moveBanner()", displayTime * 1000);
}
}
</script>
REGISTRATION IN JS
<body onload="initVar(); moveBanner();">
</body>
I ran your code. Both methods executed without me having to make any modifications to the posted code. Is there possibly some other code that is overwriting the onload method?
The DotNetNuke best practice for binding to the "onload" property in JavaScript is to hook into JQuery's ready() method:
jQuery(document).ready( function() {
// put your code here
initVar();
moveBanner();
});
DotNetNuke 4.9.x and later ship with the jQuery JavaScript library included.
Have you edited DNN's Default.aspx? Otherwise, there isn't any way for you to have access to the body tag to add the onload attribute like you show.
How are you injecting this script? Are you using a Text/HTML module, are you using the Page Header Text setting for the page, are you adding it directly to the skin, have you written a custom module, or something else?
Instead of using the onload attribute on the body tag, I would suggest wiring up to that event in the script itself. If you're using any code to inject the script, you can ask DNN to register jQuery or a ScriptManager (for ASP.NET AJAX) so that you can use those libraries to wire the event up easily. If you can't guarantee that those are on the page, use the following:
function addLoadEvent(func) {
var oldonload = window.onload;
if (typeof window.onload != 'function') {
window.onload = func;
} else {
window.onload = function() {
if (oldonload) {
oldonload();
}
func();
}
}
}
addLoadEvent(function () {
initVar();
moveBanner();
});
I don't know much about asp.net but if you can put javascript code in your page, then you can try this alternative:
window.onload = function()
{
// any code here
}
This is the same as what you put in body tag.
The CSS left property takes a length, not an integer. You must have units for non-zero lengths. (Even when setting it using JavaScript!).
