show and hide iframes with a button - javascript

I have a webpage with 2 iframes, 1 underneath the other. I would like both iframes hidden when a user first clicks on the webpage. There will be 2 buttons, 1 above each iframe and the user must click on the button to show/hide the iframe
Here is what I tired(jQuery function) but it wont seem to work when I preview in chrome from expression web
jsfiddle.net/darego/Z62P7/2/

All you need to do is to call the function after the document.ready:
$(document).ready(function() {
hideToggle(".button1", ".iframe1");
hideToggle(".button2", ".iframe2");
});

Just placing it in document ready will not be enough.
You can make your function MUCH easier.
function hideToggle(elem) {
$(elem).toggle();
}
This means: If the element is visible > hide it, if it is hidden > show it.
But for your initializing (hide both divs) i would recommend doing it by css.
iframe {
display:none;
}
Also you need to setup click handlers for the buttons. If you need help on this write me a comment or edit your question please.

How to display specific content after it has been loaded

I now I am not supposed to use links here as it will change but at the moment my problem can be seen at
http://8anime.net78.net/
The red under header thing has social buttons which load strangely. I want to hide them all, and when they are loaded display them.
Basically display 4 certain iframes after the content of the iframes have loaded.
You can use JQuery 'load' function.
First hide the area. Then do the following action.
$('hiddenarea').on('load', function(){
$(this).show();
});
For more details you can visit the following link
https://api.jquery.com/load-event/
First make a div around the social items then hide the div with some css.
display: none
then add some jquery like this
jQuery(document).ready( function(){
jQuery('#thehiddendivhere').fadeIn(1000);
} );

Make browser's back button work when using hide and show (jquery)

I've seen the new website of megaupload (mega) and we've got this:
Ok, if I press on left-menu contacts, it only reloads the white part on the image, if I press messages, the same, it only reloads white part. But if I go from contacts to messages and I press browser's back button, it goes from messages to contact and only reloads white part as always.
In my website, I do the same using jquery hide and show, but obviously, if I press browser's back button it doesn't hide the div and shows the other one.
My web site is only one html file and there are 4 div that get shown or hidden depending on the button you press, this is an example:
$("#btn_contact").click(function () {
$("#content_contact").show();
$("#content_home").hide();
$("#content_products").hide();
$("#body_aux").hide() ;
$(this).addClass('visited');
$('#btn_products').removeClass('visited');
$('#btn_home').removeClass('visited');
});
Can anybody tell me how to find this with jquery or whatever I have to use.
I don't know if I've explained myself well, if not, ask me to do it better.
I would appreciate any help. Thanxs a lot.
Maybe it'd be easier for you and more appropiate to make "content_contact.html", "content_home.html", and so on and use .load() function as Ozan Deniz said. You wouldn't have to change margins, positions, etc. and back button would work withouth programming. I think is not appropiate to make the whole website using just one html file, showing and hiding div's, ofcourse you can do this but maybe is not the right way. I'm newbie at this, but that's what an expert told me beacuse I was doing something similar to that.
Hope to help you.
You can use jquery load function to load white part
For example;
$('#result').load('ajax/test.html');
And in back button event you can load the white part
jquery hide and show
window.onbeforeunload = function() { $('#result').hide(); }; or
window.onbeforeunload = function() { $('#result').show(); };
jquery load function
window.onbeforeunload = function() { $('#result').load('ajax/test.html'); };

Using JavaScript to hide a div placed in front of an iframe after clicking any link

I have a div in the middle of my web page that is placed in front of an iframe the with links along side of it. I would like to hide the div once any one of the links are clicked. How would I go about doing this using javascript? I am very new to this so please be as descriptive as possible so that I can understand.
Here is some of my html code. I have a number of links that appear in an iframe. I have the logo div positioned on top of the iframe and it loads when you enter the site. However I want to hide the logo when you click on anyone of the links.
<li>My Resume</li></br>
<li>My Course Work</li></br>
I used the jquery code noted by Dolours below along with extra coding within my the body of my html code, when you click on a link then the div disappears as I intended but then it reappears once you click on another link. I want it to disappear and stay away. Here is the additional code that I came up with
About Me
Does anyone know how I can make my logo stay away?
You can do this using jQuery:
// Get the iFrame jQuery Object
var $MyFrame = $("#iframeid");
// You need to wait for the iFrame content to load first
// So, that the click events work properly
$MyFrame.load(function () {
var frameBody = $MyFrame.contents().find('body');
// Find the link to be clicked
var link = frameBody.find('.link_class');
// Set the on click event for the link
link.on('click', function() {
// Hide the div inside the iFrame
$('#divID').hide();
});
});
You can use the code below
$('a').click(function() {
$('#divID').hide();
});
Assuming all links will load the iframe.

Hide/show html content with javascript

I'm looking for javascript that will allow more HTML to appear on a website when a user clicks on an icon. I'm working on my first ever mobile design, and am building a prototype with html,css and javascript. Here is what I have so far: http://www.patthorntonfiles.com/snk_mobile
What I want to happen is when users click on the search icon at the top, a search box appears. I don't want the jquery accordion effect or something similar. I just want some HTML to appear and then disappear when a user clicks on the icon again or hits search.
Any recommendations for code or libraries for me to look at what be great. I don't need you to give me the code, but my Google searches aren't turning up exactly what I'm looking for.
Here's a non-jQuery solution:
document.getElementById("identifier").style.setProperty("visibility", "hidden");
and
document.getElementById("identifier").style.setProperty("visibility", "visible");
I know you said you don't want to use the jQuery accordion effect, but using jQuery to animate the opacity?. Please see below.
$("#idClicked").click(function() {
$("#searchBox").fadeTo("fast", 1);
});
jQuery's hide() and show() will do exactly that (they don't have any accordion effect, they just appear and dissapear with no ornaments).
$('#HtmlId').hide();
$('#HtmlId').show();
Additionally you get toggle(), to hide if shown and show if hidden:
$('#HtmlId').toggle();
---- Edit ----
After reading your comment, imagine you have the html:
<li><img id='hideShowIcon' src="patthorntonfiles.com/snk_mobile/search.gif"; width="50px'"/></li>
And the div to hide/show is:
<div id="search"> <gcse:search></gcse:search> </div>
Then you bind the click event to the image with the callback function performing the toggle:
$("#hideShowIcon").click(function() {
$('#search').toggle();
});
----- Edit 2-----
I saw your site and you don't have a document ready function. Basically it should look like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#hideShowIcon").click(function() {
$('#search').toggle();
});
});
If you don't add this, jQuery tries to bind the action to an element that doesn't exist yet.

Detecting when inside an iframe and then hiding elements

I hope some of you better than me at coding can help.
I have a simple webpage (www.mypage.com). It has 5 links
Link 1 (www.mypage.com/link1.html)
Link 2 (www.mypage.com/link2.html)
Link 3 (www.mypage.com/link3.html)
Link 4 (www.mypage.com/link4.html)
Link 5 (www.mypage.com/link5.html)
Now from the main homepage, clicking on the link opens up a popup window using an iframe to display the page they clicked.
Now what I want to do is that when people click the link via the mainpage and hence get a popup/iframe, that on that page eg (www.mypage.com/link1.html) I want to hide some elements. The elements are things link Menu and Banner.
Now if a person enters one of the links manually eg typing www.mypage.com/link1.html directly into their browser, then I want the Banner and Banner to show.
Is there anyway I can do this?
Is there some javascript that can run that if it detects it's an iframe that it can do a display:none on the elements I want to hide?
Many thanks in advance.
This is how i would do it :
in the link pages (www.mypage.com/link1.html) i would have a script to verify if the hash of the url has a certain value.If it does, then hide the banners;else show the banners normally.
So when you open the page in an iframe, be sure to set the src to "www.mypage.com/link1.html#banner_off" and not to the simple "www.mypage.com/link1.html".
This way, when a user types in the browser the link address (without the hash value), your ads will be shown.
here is an example of how the script in the link pages should look like:
function manageBanners(){
if(document.location.hash == "banner_off")//hide banners
{
//code to hide banners here
var banners = document.getElementsByClassName('banner');
for(var i in banners)
banners[i].style.display = 'none';
}
//else do not alter the banners visibility
}
window.onload = manageBanners;
Of course you can use in the same way the php-query like sintax : url?banner=false and check for the parameters in the url.
Hope this helps!
The best way I can think of to detect that a page is in an iFrame is to compare the URL of the page with the URL in the browser window. If they're different, it must be in a frame.
if (top.location != location) {
// hide menu and banner
}
