At the beginning of the page load, i call mainCall(). When i call the same system with XML format this functions works perfectly. But when i call with JSON format, then firstPageData(resJSON), resJSON becomes null.

Error when attempting to check if page exists or not (function returns undefined)

I am attempting to check if a URL exists or not. The function is supposed to return true if the url is not 404, and false if it is 404'd.
Now for some reason this function is returning "undefined"

The return value of checkURL will be undefined until the AJAX request finishes. I would approach this with a callback like this:

Overriding a variable within another function JS

Is it possible for me to call a function then override the contents of the variable before actually running it?
So I have a function that basically pulls in my Git profile like this:

You can't modify a local variable to a function from outside the function. They are private to the function's implementation.
But, since it's your own function, you can just create an argument that can be passed into the function. You can even make the argument optional so it will take your initial value as the default value if it is not passed.

FYI, this function looks like it will ultimately need to either return a promise or accept a callback so you can communicate the results back to the caller.
From the snippet above you need to set the url as a function parameter so when calling it uses the specified url.

You should do a toString() on the function:
GetGitInfo.toString()
Then you should do a text search and replace on the variable and it's data:

Then you should eval that string!
Or, you know, use function parameters. Either way. Whatever's easiest.

Javascript only execute the last function called

I want my page to execute the same function 3 times, calling for 3 different things each time.
The code is currently

You'll want to have each call to ajaxGet create its own XMLHttpRequest.
An XMLHttpRequest can only handle 1 request at a time. And, since they'll be making the request asynchronously, they'll be processing in parallel rather than sequentially.

Granted, browsers generally limit requests to only a few at a time (usually 2), queuing any additional. But your code shouldn't count on that.
Side note: Unless you need to support IE6 or older, you shouldn't need to fallback to ActiveXObject.
You need to change your ajaxGet() method to instantiate a new XMLHttpRequest object at every call. Since, you're using the same XMLHttpRequest every new request is overwriting the previous one.
Hence, you're getting the results returned by the last method call only.

There is now a nicer Fetch API available natively in modern browsers. The fetch() method allows you to make web requests.

The function returns a promise. Here is an example on how to use the function and handle the promise it returns:

If you need to load a json file you can use JSON.parse() to convert the loaded data into an JS Object.
You can also integrate req.responseType='json' into the function but unfortunately there is no IE support for it, so I would stick with JSON.parse().

I was looking for a way to include promises with ajax and exclude jQuery. There's an article on HTML5 Rocks that talks about ES6 promises. (You could polyfill with a promise library like Q) You can use the code snippet that I copied from the article.

If you don't want to include JQuery, I'd try out some lightweight AJAX libraries.
