I have a dynamically generated table of records and for each row, I have an anchor tag with class name set to 'hdelete' to enable me invoke delete method on the particular row's link that is clicked. I have some code currently that is support to hook up all the anchors with class ='hdelete'
$("#tbl_srecords").click(function (e) {
$(e.target).hasClass("hdelete") ? fnDeletehrecord($(e.target)) : null; //Run the delte row function here
});
The code above does not seem to work. what it currently does is select just the first occurence of anchor with class='hdelete'. Anyone with a better idea on how to best implement this?
I have a dynamically generated table
$("#tbl_srecords a.hdelete").live('click', function (e) {
fnDeletehrecord($(this)); // pass the element as a parameter to the function
});
live is Deprecated
This is latest (recommended)
$("#tbl_srecords").on('click', 'a.hdelete', function (e) {
fnDeletehrecord($(this)); // pass the element as a parameter to the function
});
because of dynamic content.
This will bind a function to all anchor tags with class hdelete and call the fnDeletehrecord function with the element as a jquery object past as a parameter.
$("#tbl_srecords a.hdelete").click(function(){
//NOTE: This represents the anchor tag that fired the event
fnDeletehrecord($(this));
});
This should work:
$("#tbl_srecords a.hdelete").click(fnDeletehrecord);
This code will handle click events on the links with class hdelete within element with id tbl_srecords.

I have to add a list of checkboxes dynamically. I then need to know which one performed the click, then ask if it's checked or not.
I have this code:
$('#MyContainerOfChecksDiv').click( '.MySelectorClass', function(){
if ("MyCheckClicked".is(':checked'))
{
//...here i need to use the label and id
}
else{...}
})
using "$(this)" i get the "MyDiv", obviously using $(this).find('input:checkbox') I get the whole list of checks.
I have to get this checkbox because I need to use its properties.
Add a formal parameter to click handler and use it like this
$('#myDiv').click('.MySelectorClass', function (e) {
if ($(e.target).is(':checked')) {
alert(e.target.id);
}
})
fiddle
Also it's not quite clear to me how you distinguish dynamically added elements and static. Do you have different class for them? If so then you dynamic and static elements can have different handlers and this will be the way to tell whether it was created dynamically
To delegate to dynamic elements you have to use .on(). The element that you clicked on will be in this.
$("#myDiv").on("click", ".MySelectorClass", function() {
if (this.clicked) {
// here you can use this.id
} else {
// ...
}
});
You can't use .click() to delegate like you tried. You're just binding the click handler to the DIV, and the string ".MySelectorClass" is being passed as additional data to the handler.
I need the id(and other attributes such as value) of a span i previously created on an ajax event.
Is there a way to do this?
This is how the span is created on php post:
echo "<span class='non-skin-symptom-choice disease_option' ".
"onclick='showinfo(".$var[0].");' id=".$var[0].">"
.$var[1]." -- ".number_format($var[3]*100, 2, '.', '')."%</span>";
and I want to get its id whenever a checkbox is clicked.
$(".chb").click(function(){
var id= $(this).attr('id');
var list=[];
$('.disease_option').each(function (){
alert("this.val=="+ $(this).attr("val")); //i need the value here
var str= $(this).attr("value").split(" -- ")[1];
alert(str);
str=str.slice(0,str.length - 1);
if(parseFloat(str) >=support)
list.push(id) //i need the id here
});
the checkbox is not dynamically created, so $(".chb").click(function(){} works.
somehow, $(this).attr("id") works but $(this).attr("val") returns undefined... i also tried $(this).attr("value") but same results. $(this).val returns empty.
use
$(document).on('click','.chb',function(){
var id = $(".non-skin-symptom-choice").attr("id");
})
as this have a high level event attachment and it can get the elements who have been created on a runtime
Try this
alert($(".non-skin-symptom-choice").attr("id"));
The click() binding you're using is called a "direct" binding which will only attach the handler to elements that already exist. It won't get bound to elements created in the future. To do that, you'll have create a "delegated" binding by using on()
$(document).on('click','.chb',function(){
var id = $(".non-skin-symptom-choice").attr("id");
})
possible duplicate: Click event doesn't work on dynamically generated elements
If your DOM node did not exist when the page loaded (ie. it was added to the page via AJAX after the page loaded), jQuery cannot see it if you try to update it or read it with jQuery methods. One way to overcome this is to set up your jQuery function to reference the class or ID of the parent of the node you want to target (assuming the parent class is loaded into the page on page load), along with the class of the node you want to target. For example:
$(".chb").click(function(){
var id = $(".your-parent-class .non-skin-symptom-choice").attr("id");
}
}
I want danamically create select element in horizontal block. And have funny result. What is the correct way?
JSFiddle
You need to define where you want to append the new elements. For this, use .after(). And then you need to apply styles on the generated/modified controlgroup.
Demo here: http://jsfiddle.net/Palestinian/rKGtQ/
Code:
// append select menu after Button div
$("#Button_show_filters").after('<select id="sm"><option>Opt 1</option><option>Opt 2</option></select>');
// apply styles on select menu
$("#sm").selectmenu();
// add options to controlgroup
$( "#test" ).controlgroup( "option", "corners", true );
// create controlgroup
$( "#test" ).controlgroup().trigger('create');
controlgroup div ID is #test.
I think the main problem is that every time the "Push me!!" button is pressed, you are appending a select element with an id attribute of sm. Having multiple elements with the same id is invalid HTML and can cause problems with Javascript. See this question.
Namely, the $("#sm") line doesn't know which select you are trying to target.
Maybe you should try something like this:
$("button").click(function () {
$("#div_for_harakteristikinomenklatury_list").append('<select><option>Opt 1</option><option>Opt 2</option></select>');
$("#div_for_harakteristikinomenklatury_list select:last").selectmenu();
});
Also, you should get rid of the onclick attribute for the button. You don't need it. Passing the click handler to the click function should make the function run when the button is clicked.
Instead of using id you should use class and apply selctmenu only on last appended select element. Check this fiddle
$("button").click(function show_filters() {
//alert("Hello");
$("#div_for_harakteristikinomenklatury_list").append('<select class="sm"><option>Opt 1</option><option>Opt 2</option></select>');
$(".sm:last").selectmenu();
})
Updated Fiddle
change the $("#sm").selectmenu(); to $("select").selectmenu();
With above mentioned method no matter what is the id or class of the element you newly pushed, it'll get the styles applied.
Check the live fiddle here http://jsfiddle.net/mayooresan/VMj4U/6/
How would I add a class to an object of a specific class upon click? The elements that should gain an extra class contain the "date" class.
$(".date").bind("click",addClass());
function addClass(){
//objectClicked.className+=""
}
I'm having trouble figuring out how to identify the exact element that was clicked.
In a jQuery event handler, this is bound to the source element of the event, so your can use $(this).addClass('yourClass'); to add the new class to the clicked element.
$(".date").bind("click", addClass);
function addClass() {
$(this).addClass('yourClass');
}
Also, watch out that you don't invoke the addClass function in the call to bind. That won't work. You need to pass the function itself as I have.
Though FishBasketGordo answer is a working solutions, you can also do it this way :
$(".date").click(function() {
$(this).addClass("yourClass");
});
I'm new to javascript and JQuery, and I'm working in a small project with JSP.
I create a grid dynamically with JSP and I added some buttons wich class is "select" and in the alt attribute I set the current row index. That works perfectly, I'm trying to set the onclick dynamically. This is my code
$('.select').click(function (){
alert($('.select').attr('alt'));
}
I want to each button to show its own index, but that code shows just the first index in each button. I've searched how to do it, but nothing comes out.
Is there a chance to do what I want?
change this line as:
alert($(this).attr('alt'));
When jQuery calls your event handler it sets this to be the DOM element in question, so try this:
$('.select').click(function (){
alert($(this).attr('alt'));
});
If you need to access DOM element properties you can then get them directly, e.g.:
alert( this.id );
this.value = "test";
If you need to use jQuery methods on the element you need to pass it to the jQuery function first, e.g.:
$(this).hide();
$(this).css("color","red").slideDown();
$('.select').click(function (){
alert($(this).attr('alt'));
});
Change
alert($('.select').attr('alt'));
by
alert($(this).attr('alt'));
Now you select the attr alt of the button lauch the event.
Not sure if that's what you're looking for but...
$('.select').click(function() {
$('.select').each(function() {
$(this).attr('value', $(this).attr('alt'));
});
});
This'll have every button "show" the value stored within their alt attribute when you click one button.
By the way, if you're using 1 button per row, you'd probably better go with index().
