I'm using the jquery select2 plugin but I want to disable it for certain select dropdowns. Is there a way to exclude select elements the plugin will be applied to?
I was thinking maybe a class on the select element to tell the plugin to ignore it.
$('select').not('.yourExcludeClass').select2();
Here's a link to the docs for $.not()
While just not calling .select2() on the elements which you don't want to be dropdown works, you might want to disable Select2 after you've already initialized it.
In order to do this, you have two options
Visually disable it like you would a standard <select> by calling $("select").prop("disabled", true).
"Destroy" Select2 so it goes back to looking like a standard dropdown by calling $("select").select2("destroy").
You can disable it using -
$('select').select2("enable",false);
using JQuery.
I am assuming you are applying it to all selects via:
<script type="text/javascript">
$('select').select2();
</script>
There are a few ways you could solve it, but the easiest would be to add a class to the selects you want to be styled And only call the select2() on those:
Add the class addStyling to your selects to be styled
Initialize them with $('select.addStyling').select2();
I have a SharePoint list with the following single line of text fields: Title, Year and Type or Location. I want to be able to hide the Type or Location table row in the default display form. I know that I should create a JavaScript script and put it in Content Editor web part inside DispForm.aspx.
I am not fluent with jQuery syntax, thus I need help with the code, i.e. I don't know how to reference the table row which contains Type or Location field and its value. Here's what I've done so far, but it doesn't work:
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
$("input[title='Type or Location']").closest("tr").hide();
});
I know that the "input[title='Type or Location']" part is incorrect; at least I think it's that. Could anyone help me out? Thank you.
Try:
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
$("h3.ms-standardheader:contains('Type or Location')").closest("tr").hide();
});
I am not sure why you want to use jQuery for that. In SharePoint, you can choose to make a field required, optional or hidden. In most cases, just switching to hidden will address your issue.
For the record, I would also try to avoid as much as possible the use of jQuery(document).ready, it might conflict with the SharePoint out of the box onload event. In your case it is not needed.
Update: here is a way to do this with jQuery:
$("td.ms-formlabel:contains('Type or Location')").parent().hide();
Try it this way:
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
$("input[title='Type'],input[title='Location']").closest("tr").hide();
});
It depends what type of column Type ior Location is. If it's a Single line of text, then you're close. You should use a DOM inspector like IE's Developer Tools or Firebug to see what the actual title of the input element is.
If the column is a different type, then it's likely not an input element. Using the DOM inspector again, you can look at what elements make up the field control and decide on your selector from that.
Finally, remember that hiding things in script is not secure. A savvy user can turn off the script or otherwise change the script so that they can edit it. It all depends on your requirements.
// UPDATE //
Ah, you said DispForm. As was pointed out in another answer, there aren't any input elements in a DispForm. You need to correct your selector.
If its just the Default Display Form, How about just creating a view and making it default?
The syntax should be like this:
$("input[title='Type']").closest("tr").hide();
$("input[title='Location']").closest("tr").hide();
It will work.
I am using ExtJs with Jquery. I have a panel under which I have check boxes, radios and drop downs. I am using the following code to get all the items under the panel.
$('#panelId : input').each
This works for radio and check boxes. But, I am trying the following for drop down and it is not working
$('#panelId : select').each
Experts please guide me.
Note: I am painting raw html into the panel using XTemplate. So I am not able to retrieve the items using extjs (Rather I don't know!). Can any one suggest the same using extjs?
:select is not a valid selector. Please read the jQuery selector documentation.
You can see a quick fiddle here to see it working and help you understand how to use the proper input or select jQuery selectors.
The jQuery selector function $ expects a valid CSS selector as an argument. If you want all <select> elements under the parent ID, then this should do what you want:
$('#panelId select').each(...
Note in the above that there's no colon between #panelId and select. Colon characters in CSS are reserved for pseudo selectors like :hover.
If you want more than one kind of child element, you can specify multiple selectors by separating them with commas. e.g.
$('#panelId select, #panelId input').each(...
An even better way would be to start with the panel, then select just the matching descendants:
$('#panelId').find('select, input').each(...
Hope this helps!
I'm working with jQuery and a plugin called jQuery.SelectBox
I have 3 selectboxes, selecting an option in the first selectbox will change the options in the second one.
My problem comes when I try to insert values in the second selectbox via append function in jQuery. Everything works fine but the new options are not clickable.
You can see the problem right here: http://incubadora.gelattina.com/impac/galeria.html (scroll down and to the right), there are the three selectboxes.
From what I understand, you put in a normal select, and this does a dynamic creation of a stylized 'select box' via jQuery.
The problem, I would guess, is that, since you're adding items after the select box's initialization, the new items don't have any sort of action listeners on them.
I can't seem to find any documentation on this SelectBox plugin, but you need to find a way to Bind the click and hover actions provided by SelectBox onto you're newly added items.
You can try calling the .selectbox(); function on the select elements after you've added the new options to see if that works.
Hey I wrote a select box plugin called Selectzor, just for this reason.
It should accomplish everything you need.
I'm kind of new when it comes to programming but am trying to learn.
What I need to do for my site is have 2 or 3 linked drop-down menus so when I select an item from the first one, the second one will refresh with other options. I have found a way to do this using Java but I cannot seem to make it with the refresh div part.
I looked up prototypejs/updater but it is a bit over my head and cannot seem to link it with the JavaScript I used for the drop-down menus...
So if anyone can tell how I can link two, maybe 3 drop-down menus and after if I click an option from the last menu make a div from the page refresh with other content please help :)
Try a search on google for dynamic select boxes, it's plenty of examples, choose the less complicated one that best fits with your knowledge.
The principle is to link a function to "onchange" event that the select box fires when an item is selected.
Assuming this select box:
<select id="select1" name="option">
</select>
the javascript fragment is:
var sel1 = document.getElementById("select1");
sel1.onchange = function() {
//do whatever you want
};
For the first and the second select, the function will load other select's options, while in the third case it will show your div
Not 100% sure what you are after - but I think this should get you at least some of the way:
http://remysharp.com/2007/09/18/auto-populate-multiple-select-boxes/
It's a jQuery plugin for linking select boxes together, using Ajax to load the data to populate the next box in the chain based on the value selected in the previous.
You'll then still need to link the last box with the div - but you should be able to do it with a similar method yourself - see the jQuery Ajax documentation.
