On Click: Open a Pop-up Div on a Different Page - javascript

On page1.php I have a click event that causes the user to be redirected to page2.php. It goes something like this:
$("#someButton").click(function() {
window.location = "page2.php";
});
And that works great. But what I really want is to open a hidden, UI-blocking <div> on page2. The user can already open this <div> manually by clicking another button on page2, that goes something like this:
$('#someOtherButton').click(function() {
$("#pageContainer").block({message: $("#theDivIWant2See")});
});
Can I make a click event from the JavaScript on one page call the JavaScript on another? Or will I need to add in some HTML-parsing to pass information between pages? (I'm not looking for a JavaScript hand-out here, just a strategy to help me move forward.)

When you redirect from the first page, add a querystring value in your url. and in the second page, using your server side page language, set in in a hidden field and in the document ready event check the value of that hidden field. If the value is expected, call a javascript function to show the popup.
Some thing like this
$("#someButton").click(function() {
window.location = "page2.php?showpopup=yes";
});
and in page2.php set it (forgive for errors, i am not a php guy)
<input type='<?php $_GET["showpopup"] ?>' id='hdnShow' />
and in the script
$(function(){
if($("#hdnShow").val()=="yes")
{
//Call here the method to show pop up
}
});

You need to do your stuff when DOM for page2 is ready. You can use jQuery's ready function for that.
$(document).ready(function() {
// put code for showing your div here
});
Hope that helps.

Could you pass a query string argument or assign a cookie that the other page could then check when the document loads? If the value exists then present a modal dialog (e.g. jQuery UI Modal Popup)

JavaScript button function result after page reloading

I have a login and register modal and these modals share one same attribute, so I wanted to create an onclick function for each of the modals' submit buttons to trigger errors in respective modals. I tried this code to see if the button can trigger for the modals to show,
function loginModal(){
$('#modal-register').modal('show');
}
document.getElementById("modal-login-btn").addEventListener("click", loginModal);
and it does, however it only works before the page reload, as when i click the submit button, the page will reload. I want the modal to show after the page reload. I also tried this but it doesn't work.
$(document).ready(function(){
function loginModal(){
if (count($errors) > 0){
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#modal-login').modal('show');
});
}
}
});
document.getElementById("modal-login-btn").addEventListener("click", loginModal);
Does anyone have any idea how to make the function run after page reload?
You can use a GET value at the url of the page when the page reload:
you can set the url in javascript at the moment of reload
for example
window.location.replace(window.location.href+"?reloaded=true");
implement a function who detect if the url contains a reload GET
value.
if the GET value exist, show the modal directly.

Execute JavaScript in a modal window

I have the following JS code:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
var items = "<option value='0'>Select</option>";
$('#DistrictID').html(items);
});
</script>
This populate a dropdownlist with the value Select, the thing is, this dropdownlist appears in a form that it's called once the user clicks a button and then a modal windows opens, with the form in it.
But since it is mark as
$(document).ready
This JS won't execute with the modal, since the document is already 'ready'. How can I achieve this?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
You can easily achieve this using bootstrap modal events. You can use following code snippet to achieve your objective:
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#myModal').on('shown.bs.modal', function (e) {
var items = "<option value='0'>Select</option>";
$('#DistrictID').html(items);
});
});
For reference Please check bootstrap modal events.
A useful way to load and execute javascript after the page is loaded, like modal window show ups, is to use ajax getScript function, which Loads (and executes) a JavaScript from a server using an AJAX HTTP GET request through a pre-defined function in main page.
function loadJS(lnk){
$.getScript(lnk);
}
it can be a general way to load any script in a fully loaded page.
One solution is to use jQuery event.on
from this blog post https://simpleisbetterthancomplex.com/tutorial/2016/11/15/how-to-implement-a-crud-using-ajax-and-json.html
I will quote the author, because I think it's a very neat explanation.
We can’t register a listener to an element that doesn’t exists.
A work around is to register the listener to an element that will
always exist in the page context. The #modal-book is the closest
element. It is a little bit more complex what happen, but long story
short, the HTML events propagate to the parents elements until it
reaches the end of the document.

Try something like this:
$('#idofselectelement').change(function() {
//grab the selected option and then do what you want with it.
});

Parent Jsp page refresh when click on popupwindow alert box

I am working on jsp's, I have two jsp one in configDb.jsp, in that I have written code to retrieve the values from database and display it. In this whereas I have option like newconnection.. its a popup window. When I click on that it opens popupwindow and taken the values and store them in a database, but in my parent page I am not able to display those values. After I click on the ok button in popup window, I have to refresh the parent page, then I am able to see the values which I have created few seconds back by the new connection page. Could anyone please help me out?
You can include this in your HTML for the popup window.
<script type="text/javascript">
function proceed(){
opener.location.reload(true);
self.close();
}
</script>
<form onsubmit="proceed()">
...
</form>
Actually you can obtain the answer by googling "javascript refresh parent page from popup" and you will see stackoverflow's answer :)
A better alternative without the need of refreshing the parent page can be achieved by adding a submit button listener and perform a DOM action to insert the new element with new content. This can be easily done by Javascript.

Focus on ajax generated textbox

I have a "calculator" if you will. It's a shopping cart, but upon change it calculates the tax and reloads the content through ajax, registering a bit of info through php. THe problem I'm running into is that once the content is reloaded through ajax, the input textbox blurs. I want to focus onto #amt again, once the #shop reloads content. Any workarounds?
$(document).delegate("#amt", "change", function() {
$("#shop").load("page.php?amt="+(this).value);
});
Try to set the focus inside load method success handler once the content is available. Try this.
$(document).delegate("#amt", "change", function() {
$("#shop").load("page.php?amt="+(this).value, function(){
$("#amt").focus();
});
})
For whatever reason I could not get it to work with the above answers. The solution I found was to call script code from inside the loaded content (page.php)
<script>
$("#amt").focus();
</script>

jQuery dialog call redirecting page

I'm using the jQuery dialog plugin.
The dialog div is set up (but not opened) on page load:
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#foo').dialog({autoOpen:false});
});
Then a hyperlink is supposed to open the dialog:
Show dialogue box
But this opens the dialog then a fraction later redirects to a page with the URL javascript:$('#foo').dialog('open');!
I have tried returning false:
Show dialogue box
But then the link doesn't respond at all when I click on it.
I know this must be to do with one of JavaScript's infamous subtleties but I can't work it out.
Can anyone help?
Then a hyperlink is supposed to open the dialog:

But this opens the dialog then a fraction later redirects to a page with the URL javascript:$('#foo').dialog('open');!
That shouldn't be happening. The pseudo-protocol javascript: doesn't involve a page load, and certainly not one via HTTP. I don't recommend it (I'd use jQuery's click handler instead), but it should work.
I have tried returning false:
...
But then the link doesn't respond at all when I click on it.
That also shouldn't be happening.
Your code as quoted is fine (works here, for instance: http://jsbin.com/inixa5), so the problem must lie in some other part of the page.
Update: Okay, that's weird, IE6 and IE7 didn't like that; I think it's because dialog returns a value. You can get around that either by wrapping up your call to open the dialog in a function and doesn't explicitly return anything:
Click Me
<script>
$("#foo").dialog({autoOpen: false});
function showDialog(selector) {
$(selector).dialog('open');
}
</script>
Or (and this is mega-hacky) by making sure the last expression in the javascript: block is undefined:
Click Me
<script>
$("#foo").dialog({autoOpen: false});
</script>
Or by using onclick:
Click Me
<script>
$("#foo").dialog({autoOpen: false});
</script>
But in any case, strongly recommend hooking things up with a DOM2 style event handler:
<a href="#" name='openSesame'>Click Me</a>
<script>
// This _can_ be immediately after the anchor, but I'd put it in
// a separate, since .js file for the page that you load just before
// the closing body tag.
$("#foo").dialog({autoOpen: false});
$("a[name=openSesame]").click(function() {
$("#foo").dialog('open');
return false;
});
</script>
Live example (Obviously, you can use any selector that makes sense, you don't have to give the anchor a name [or id].)
One of the nice things about this is that you can then have the anchor take the user somewhere meaningful and/or useful if JavaScript is disabled (something called progressive enhancement).
Change the link to:
<a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="$('#foo').dialog('open')">
Show dialogue box
</a>
Best avoid putting javascript in the href.
Even better would be giving it a class and than adding a click event to it through jquery.
