I want to set an variable in the function after i send an ajax request.
What is the reason why the function alert outside the getjson function undefined and inside the good value? Is there some solution?
function gettextlabel(txtvar){
var v = '';
$.getJSON('http://192.168.0.92/visuals/support/text_handler.php?txtvar=' + txtvar , function(data) {
v = data;
alert(v);
});
alert(v);
}
Because by default jQuery send ajax request asynchronously.
You can set the option async to false to force it work synchronously, like:
$.ajax({
type: 'GET',
url: 'http://192.168.0.92/visuals/support/text_handler.php?txtvar=' + txtvar,
dataType: 'json',
success: function(data) { v = data; alert(v); },
async: false
});
This should work:
function gettextlabel(txtvar){
var v = '';
$.ajax({
url: 'http://192.168.0.92/visuals/support/text_handler.php',
data: 'txtvar=' + txtvar,
type: 'GET',
dataType: 'json',
async: false,
success: function (data) {
v = data;
alert(v);
}
});
alert(v);
}

Once again I've been beating my head against the wall, trying to pull this part of returned data from ajax to a variable outside the function.
When I return the value it always comes up undefined when I alert() inside it shows the proper values.
function getItemInfo(itemHashPass) {
$.ajax({
url: 'index.php//Welcome/getItem', //This is the current doc
type: "POST",
data: 'iHash='+itemHashPass,
dataType: "json",
async: false,
success: function(data){
return data.Response.data.inventoryItem.itemName;
}
});
}
I've also tried
function getItemInfo(itemHashPass) {
var tmp = null;
$.ajax({
url: 'index.php//Welcome/getItem', //This is the current doc
type: "POST",
data: 'iHash='+itemHashPass,
dataType: "json",
async: false,
success: function(data){
tmp = data.Response.data.inventoryItem.itemName;
}
});
return tmp;
}
Like Jonathan said you should write your business logic in the callback or you can try Deferred syntax. In this case it will looks like
function yourBusinnesLogicFunction() {
...
getItemInfo("password_hash_value").done(
function(data){
alert(data.Response.data.inventoryItem.itemName);
}
)
}
function getItemInfo(itemHashPass) {
var tmp = null;
return $.ajax({
url: 'index.php//Welcome/getItem', //This is the current doc
type: "POST",
data: 'iHash='+itemHashPass,
dataType: "json",
async: false,
})
}
i using JQuery Ajax to call REST api in jsp but it return null no matter how i call but it can work in html. is there any way to solve this problem. Cant seem to find a solution in the net.
$(document).ready(function () {
alert('ready');
var accessKey = 'xkg8VRu6Ol+gMH+SUamkRIEB7fKzhwMvfMo/2U8UJcFhdvR4yN1GutmUIA3A6r3LDhot215OVVkZvNRzjl28TNUZgYFSswOi';
var thisUrl = 'http://www.onemap.sg/API/services.svc/getToken?accessKEY=' + accessKey;
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: thisUrl,
dataType: 'application/json',
success: function (data) {
alert('data is:' + data.GetToken[0].NewToken);
}
});
alert(thisUrl);
});
dataType should be jsonp
$(document).ready(function () {
var thisUrl = 'http://www.onemap.sg/API/services.svc/getToken?accessKEY=' + accessKey;
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: thisUrl,
dataType: 'jsonp',
success: function (data) {
console.log(data)
alert('data is:' + data.GetToken[0].NewToken);
}
});
});
Refer to this article:
http://www.isgoodstuff.com/2012/07/22/cross-domain-xml-using-jquery/
You only need "jquery.xdomainajax.js" that is there in the sample source-code to make it work.
$.ajax({
url: 'https://asdf/asdf',
dataType: "xml",
type: 'GET',
success: function(res) {
var myXML = res.responseText;
alert(myXML);
}
});
please check this:
var scripts = {};
require = function(src){
var id = Math.round(+new Date()/1000);
$.ajax({
url: src + '.json',
type: 'GET',
dataType: "json",
cache: false,
async: false,
success : function(data){
scripts[id] = data;
}
});
return scripts[id];
}
return undefined :/ What is the problem!? i don't know...
EDIT! 'async : false' and run!
It is because $.ajax is asynchronous in your call.
return scripts[id];
The above line is executed even before the success callback is triggered.
it is a asynchronous call. scripts is empty when you return.
to verify the cause,
window.scripts = {};
require = function(src){
var id = Math.round(+new Date()/1000);
$.ajax({
url: src + '.json',
type: 'GET',
dataType: "json",
cache: false,
success : function(data){
window.scripts[id] = data;
alert(window.scripts)
}
});
//return scripts[id];
}
after alert, see the value of window.scripts
its async issue .. Ajax call is called asynchrnously.
return scripts[id];
is executed before ajax call return.s
Your problem is that the call is asynchronous. This means that your method is returning before the call is finished.
Instead of returning the scripts[id] try this instead:
require = function(src){
var id = Math.round(+new Date()/1000);
$.ajax({
url: src + '.json',
type: 'GET',
dataType: "json",
cache: false,
success : function(data){
scripts[id] = data;
DoStuff(scripts[id]);
}
});
}
DoStuff(data) {
// do whatever it is you were going to do after the return.
}
I am making a simple ajax request using jquery . Below is my ajax function .
var makeJqueryAjaxRequest = function(arrParam) {
var request = $.ajax({
url : arrParam['url'],
async: false,
type: arrParam['type'],
data: arrParam['data'],
dataType: arrParam['data_type'],
success: function(data) {
if(data){
return data;
}
}
});
}
here is my function calls :
var items = {
"type" : 'POST',
"url" : ajaxGetUrl,
"data" : arrParam['data'],
"data_type" : 'html'
};
var msg = makeJqueryAjaxRequest(items);
Now don't know why my makeJqueryAjaxRequest function always returns the null value. If I alert the data in the success : I'm getting the data perfect . But when I try to return it gives me the null value
You can't return value from an Asynchronous callback function.
Because success is a async callback which is called by jQuery when a ajax Event(success in this case) fires. So returning something from this functions will not have any effect as they will be returned to jQuery code.
You can use the following
var makeJqueryAjaxRequest = function(arrParam) {
var request = $.ajax({
url : arrParam['url'],
async: false,
type: arrParam['type'],
data: arrParam['data'],
dataType: arrParam['data_type']
});
return request;
}
Then do
makeJqueryAjaxRequest(items).done(function(data){
if(data){
var msg = data;
// do whatever you like with msg now
}
});
Alternative Callback Approach:
var makeJqueryAjaxRequest = function(arrParam,callback) {
var request = $.ajax({
url : arrParam['url'],
async: false,
type: arrParam['type'],
data: arrParam['data'],
dataType: arrParam['data_type'],
success: function(data) {
if(data){
callback(data);
}
}
});
}
Then use it like
makeJqueryAjaxRequest(items,function(data){
// do whatever you like with data
});
Doc on $.ajax()
Note
And with either of these approach async: false is not necessary. You can remove that. As the doc says
As of jQuery 1.8, the use of async: false is deprecated
How can I assign a variable(var) to a json object which is returned from ajax call to the server? I need to access that object in the rest of the body.
For example, I've try this, I don't know it's correct.
var selectValues=$(document).ready(function() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "http://10.0.2.2/mobileajax/callajax.php",
data: ({name: theName}),
cache: false,
dataType: "text",
success: onSuccess
});
})
var $vendor = $('select.mobile-vendor');
var $model = $('select.model');
$vendor.change(
function() {
$model.empty().append(function() {
var output = '';
$.each(selectValues[$vendor.val()], function(key, value) {
output += '<option>' + key + '</option>';
});
return output;
});
}).change();
// bonus: how to access the download link
$model.change(function() {
$('a#download-link').attr('href', selectValues[$vendor.val()][$model.val()]).show();
});
Note that, variable selectValues is used in the rest of the body.
I think you should do the whole code inside the $(document).ready(function() function and then make the ajax call synchronous. Because now the ajax call will be made when the document is ready, but the other code will be run directly without waiting for the document to be ready. Also the ajax call is asynchronous by default, so you should make it synchronous and assign the selectValues variable inside the success function of the ajax call. It will become something like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
var selectValues;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "http://10.0.2.2/mobileajax/callajax.php",
data: ({name: theName}),
cache: false,
dataType: "text",
async: false,
success: function(data) {
selectValues = data
}
});
var $vendor = $('select.mobile-vendor');
var $model = $('select.model');
$vendor.change(
function() {
$model.empty().append(function() {
var output = '';
$.each(selectValues[$vendor.val()], function(key, value) {
output += '<option>' + key + '</option>';
});
return output;
});
}).change();
// bonus: how to access the download link
$model.change(function() {
$('a#download-link').attr('href', selectValues[$vendor.val()][$model.val()]).show();
});
})
you have to define the var outside the document ready scope like this:
var selectValues;
$(document).ready(function() {
// ajax
});
in the onSuccess function you can define the selectValues = data or something like that
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "http://10.0.2.2/mobileajax/callajax.php",
data: ({name: theName}),
cache: false,
dataType: "text",
success: function (result){
var selectValues=result;
}
});
try this.
Here is how we extract the returned information from our (xml) ajax calls:
$.ajax ({
type: "POST",
url: "something.cgi?someparam=whatever",
data: "key=val&key2=val2",
dataType: "xml", // you use json, but I don't think it matters
success: function (data) {
if ($("error", data).text() === "") {
// I could assign $("error", data).text() to a var just here
// This gets the "error" parameter out of the returned xml or
// json, here contained in "data"
}
[snip the rest]
Another way to do this is to add the rest of your code in the success callback lik this:
$(document).ready(function() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "http://10.0.2.2/mobileajax/callajax.php",
data: ({name: theName}),
cache: false,
dataType: "text",
async: false,
success: function(selectValues) {
var $vendor = $('select.mobile-vendor');
var $model = $('select.model');
$vendor.change(
function() {
$model.empty().append(function() {
var output = '';
$.each(selectValues[$vendor.val()], function(key, value) {
output += '<option>' + key + '</option>';
});
return output;
});
}).change();
// bonus: how to access the download link
$model.change(function() {
$('a#download-link').attr('href', selectValues[$vendor.val()][$model.val()]).show();
});
}
});
})
