Javascript error only in IE8 - javascript

I get this javascript error in IE 8
SCRIPT5007: Object expected

However all that had been commented. Some ajax calls aren't being executed(again only in ie). Is it because of this error or something else? Thanks

/*#cc_on is IE's very own conditional comment - it is executed in IE and ignored in other browsers. If you cannot find uncompressed version of script, you can yust insert line breaks to narrow problematic code.

Object doesn't support property or method 'okToLaunchComposition' - issue in IE11 (Edge)

I have an embedded object that another developer created using Adobe Edge, this seems to work fine with Chrome & Firefox but IE11 doesn't (10 & 9 do.. I am not concerned for versions below this).
The error is as follows:
Object doesn't support property or method 'okToLaunchComposition'
File: Site_MAP_edgePreload.js, Line: 2, Column: 5086
Can anyone suggest the best way of fixing this to work in IE11 (while not breaking this so it still works in IE10/9 and Firefox & Chrome browsers.
This image below shows the function displayed within the console.log when I run window.AdobeEdge from within the Developer Tools console log.

I got this working following this link - in a nutshell I had to update the yepnode to the 1.5.4 version that is displayed within the Site_MAP_edgePreload.js.
Once saved & after doing a force refresh this now works in IE 11 as well as 10 & 9.

ActiveXObject Support in jQuery? How is it Possible

This is for Non-IE browsers-
I was working on a requirement which needed a XML file to be parsed. After looking at some options, i ended up finding $.parseXML in jQuery.
It worked fine and i can now read the content of the XML from there. But what surprised me was this-
Definition of $.parseXML is-
$.parseXML = function (n){
var r,i;if(!n||"string"!=typeof n)return null;
try{
e.DOMParser
? (i=new DOMParser,r=i.parseFromString(n,"text/xml"))
: (r=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM"),r.async="false",r.loadXML(n))
}catch(o){
r=t
}
return r&&r.documentElement&&!r.getElementsByTagName("parsererror").length||b.error("Invalid XML: "+n),r}
Now, if you look at the code, the part 'r=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM")' is what confuses me the most.
Normally, if we try the same thing independently, then the following error is thrown-
ReferenceError: ActiveXObject is not defined
Can someone explain me how is this made possible in jQuery?
The code inside the function definition is meant for IE only.
The ActiveX code is present as a fallback mechanism in case the browser is IE and doesn't support DOMParser(IE9 Supports DOMParser). My guess it that it's still there in case of executing the jquery code in IE8 and below.

After upgrading to jQuery 1.6.2, globalEval throws an error when trying to execute javascript on page

I upgraded from jQuery 1.4.2 to 1.6.2 and now I get error(in IE). I have JavaScript on the page that gets executed by jQuery globalEval() function
// Evaluates a script in a global context
// Workarounds based on findings by Jim Driscoll
// http://weblogs.java.net/blog/driscoll/archive/2009/09/08/eval-javascript-global-context
globalEval: function( data ) {
if ( data && rnotwhite.test( data ) ) {
// We use execScript on Internet Explorer
// We use an anonymous function so that context is window
// rather than jQuery in Firefox
( window.execScript || function( data ) {
window[ "eval" ].call( window, data );
} )( data );
}
},
In IE the call throws exception:
"Error: Could not complete the operation due to error 80020101."
The data parameter that get executed is javascript variables on page surrounded by <!-- -->
<!--
var id = \"ctrl90900\";
var url = \"myur.com/blah.html\";
-->
I'm using IE9, and jQuery 1.6.2 Not sure why this would cause an error.
If there is any error at all in a script passed to execScript, as far is Internet Explorer is concerned, it will report a 80020101 instead of the original error.
So, also check for missing semicolons and JS features not supported by IE.
For short code passages, i found the most effective debugging technique was to comment out parts of code and see if the error still turns up. If it doesn't, examine the code block that was just commented out for above errors.
It might be the commenting of the code, which is invalid JavaScript and unnecessary in this day and age.
You can strip it out with this regex...
$.globalEval(str.replace(/<!--\s*([\s\S]*?)\s*-->/, '$1'));
jsFiddle.
Just wanted to add a bit to this -- I was getting an error 80020101 whenever in an AJAX-called PHP script that included JavaScript. The script inside the PHP file was also breaking somehow, and refusing to render any of the script in the designated div (other elements of the PHP came through, but nothing inside the JavaScript -- I was trying to draw a chart using HighChart).
Turns out there was an undefined PHP function inside the JavaScript in the included PHP file (used to echo some text). I found this using Firebug.
So bottom line, make sure you don't have any undefined functions inside code coming back via AJAX.

Javascript error in IE

I have a page which is showing a javascript error in IE, stating which line the error is on, but the there are so many linked files I have no idea which line of code it is referring to.
Is there a way to find out which line / linked file it is relating to?? I'm sure I could fix the problem if I knew where it was.
Here is the error message from IE...
Message: 'null' is null or not an object
Line: 2231
Char: 5
Code: 0
URI: http://www.hpbtenancies.co.uk/location/JF/default.aspx
It happens on the line the error reports.. 2231 on default.aspx
dd.onchange = function(){ link.href = hrefOrig + dd.value;
The detailed error is
dd is null
Use Firefox which has better reporting and also use FireBug for even more flexibility in debugging javascript..
IE 8+ also has improved javascript debugging tools. In the console you will see
SCRIPT5007: Unable to set value of the property 'onchange': object is null or undefined
default.aspx, line 2231 character 5
Right-click on the page with the error, click 'View source', scroll down until you reach line 2231 - that's where your error is.

'JSON' is undefined error in JavaScript in Internet Explorer

We are using jQuery in our application. We have used a jQuery plugin to implement JavaScript session.
It is working properly in Firefox and most Internet Explorer 8 browsers.
But in some Internet Explorer 8 browsers it does not work. It gives the following error.
Message: 'JSON' is undefined
Line: 6
Char: 3
Code: 0
Message: '$.namesession' is null or not an object
Line: 53
Char: 2
Code: 0
`
The version of Internet Explorer in both the cases is same.
But there were some differences in Internet Explorer settings like Use SSL3.0 and Enable Smart Screen filters check boxes in the Advanced tab in the Internet options were unchecked.
When we checked it, it started working. When we unchecked them it was still working.
What is the actual problem in IE8?
Maybe it is not what you are looking for, but I had a similar problem and i solved it including JSON 2 to my application:
https://github.com/douglascrockford/JSON-js
Other browsers natively implements JSON but IE < 8 (also IE 8 compatibility mode) does not, that's why you need to include it.
Here is a related question: JSON on IE6 (IE7)
UPDATE
the JSON parser has been updated so you should use the new one: http://bestiejs.github.io/json3/
<!DOCTYPE html>
Otherwise IE8 is not acting right. Also you should use:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EDGE" />
Please add json2.js in your project . i was faced the same issue i have fixed.
please use the link: https://raw.github.com/douglascrockford/JSON-js/master/json2.js
and create new file json.js, copy the page and past into newly created file , and move that file into your web application.
I hope it will work.
Check for extra commas in your JSON response. If the last element of an array has a comma, this will break in IE
Change the content type to 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'
I had the very same problem recently. In my case on the top of a php script I had some code generationg obviously some extra output to the browser. Removal of empty lines (between ?> and html-tag ) and simple cleanup helped me out:
<?php
include('../config.php');
//
ob_clean();
?>
<!DOCTYPE html>
I had this error 2 times. Each time it was solved by changing the ajax type. Either GET to POST or POST to GET.
$.ajax({
type:'GET', // or 'POST'
url: "file.cfm?action=get_table&varb=" + varb
});
