I used code in the below method to block my keyboard and it worked for me.
<asp:textbox id="t1" onkeypress="return false;" />
Now I want to add some more for for it and I tired to do the same using extra code as
<script type="text/javascript">
fuction disablekeys()
{
return false;
}
</script>
<asp:textbox id="t1" onkeypress="disablekeys();" />
But this code is not working. Why?
You need to return the value returned by disablekeys:
<asp:textbox id="t1" onkeypress="return disablekeys();" />
Your new onkeypress handler currently ignores this value.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong here. I want the enter key to work as well as clicking the button.
<form action="" method="get" class="priceOptionForm" name="priceOptionForm">
<input name="paypal_email" type="text" value="whatever" id="email"></label>
Save all
</form>
Try this:
document.getElementById('email').onkeydown = function(e){
if(e.keyCode == 13){
// submit
}
};
Please use below code snippet...It should be added into script block
<script>
document.onkeydown=function(evt){
var keyCode = evt ? (evt.which ? evt.which : evt.keyCode) : event.keyCode;
if(keyCode == 13)
{
//your function call here
}
}
</script>
All below codes should be added into script block or file.
define submit function:
function submitForm(){
document.priceOptionForm.submit();
document.priceOptionForm.method='post';
}
For the enter key to submit form:
document.onkeydown=function(){
if(window.event.keyCode=='13'){
submitForm();
}
}
For the link to work:
document.getElementById("profile_price").onclick=submitForm;
You can refer to http://jsfiddle.net/honglonglong/YMX2q/ for some trying.
Use an <input type="submit"> instead of a link. Then the enter key will work automatically.
simply make a hidden button like this
HTML
<input type="submit" id="submitbtn" />
CSS
#submitbtn{display:none;}
when the user will hit the enter button the form will be submitted
Don't forget to put the type="submit"
// Process form if use enter key. put script in head.
document.onkeyup = enter;
function enter(e) {if (e.which == 13) submitForm();}
// uses keyup not down as better practice imo
// submitForm() is user function that posts the form
You Can Put a Default Button ID in form tag is automatically trigger
<form id="form1" runat="server" defaultbutton="Button1">
<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button"
OnClick = "Button1_Click" />
<asp:Button ID="Button2" runat="server" Text="Button"
OnClick = "Button2_Click" />
<asp:Button ID="Button3" runat="server" Text="Button"
OnClick = "Button3_Click" />
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
</form>
Oh that is because the HTML form element does not recognize the link as a button, to click..
you need to replace it with a button...
<input type="submit" value="this will display on your button" onClick="javascript:void(0)">
but if you want it to look like a link you should do this in the css
<style type="text/css">
input{background-color:white;border:0 none;}
</style>
The submit event fires when the user clicks a submit button ( or ) or presses Enter while editing a field (e.g. ) in a form. The event is not sent to the form when calling the form.submit() method directly.
check documentation
Using jquery, I want to prevent a postback and set a hidden field value.
JavaScript
<script type="text/javascript">
function HideImage() {
$("#divclose").hide();
$("#hdnClose").val("0");
return false;
}
</script>
Aspx Page
<div id="divclose">
<asp:imagebutton id="closeImage" runat="server" imageurl="close.gif" onclientclick="return HideImage()" imagealign="Right" />
<input type="hidden" id="hdnClose" value="0" />
<div>
The page is refresh when set:
$("#hdnClose").val("0");
I have no idea why the button click function is not firing in Javascript, am I missing something? I tried:
aspx.page
<input type="button" id="tglBtn" onclick="changeName(this) " runat="server" />
or
<input type="button" id="tglBtn" OnClientClick="changeName(this);" runat="server" />
or
<input type="button" id="tglBtn" OnClientClick="changeName(this);return false;" runat="server" />
Javascript
function changeName(obj) {
alert("hey");
if ($(obj).attr("Value") == "Open") {
$(obj).val("Close");
}
else {
$(obj).val("Open");
}
}
Actually it work so fine to me.
Here is my code:
<script src="js/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<input type="button" id="tglbtn" onclick="changeName(this)" runat="server" />
<script type="text/javascript">
function changeName(obj) {
alert("hey");
if ($(obj).attr("Value") == "Open") {
$(obj).val("Close");
}
else {
$(obj).val("Open");
}
}
</script>
Do you have jQuery? If you dont have just add a jQuery..
I think you made a mistake... now try this...
<asp:Button id="tglBtn" OnClientClick="return changeName()" runat="server"><asp>
The OnClientClick is work on asp.net controls (not on html controls that you have apply the run on server).
So the first line is only left.
<input type="button" id="tglBtn" onclick="changeName(this) " runat="server" />
This line is run, but at the same time you make Post Back, so you probably not have the time to see the results of javascript. Of course you may have some other javascript bugs, if you open your browser console you can see if the javascript runs with out errors.
Use ASP:Button instead.
see below code
<asp:Button runat="server" id="tglBtn" onclientclick="return changeName()" Text="submit" />
//in head section
<script language="Javascript">
function changeName()
{
alert("I am in function");
document.getElementById("tglBtn").value = "New name";
return false;
}
</script>
it will resolve your issue
I've asp.net web site , I used master page for the design. I've child page which is placed in the contentplaceholder. On the child page i used one hidden field as -
<input id="Hidden1" type="hidden" value="This is hidden text"/>
I want to display the hidden field value using alert() function from javascript on the page load event. How to do this?
I tried following thing in my script but it is not working-
(function msgShow() {
var e1 = document.getElementById('Hidden');
alert(e1.value);
})();
Thanks.
window.alert(document.getElementById("Hidden1").value);
Make sure this code is executed after the DOM is ready.
With jQuery you do like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
alert($('#Hidden1').val());
});
without jQuery you do:
alert(document.getElementById('Hidden1').value);
Just like with any other element, you can get it with document.getElementById('Hidden1').value
Refer the code given below to know how to get
<html>
<body>
<script type="text/javascript">
function printIt(){
alert(document.getElementById('abcId').value);
alert(document.formName.elements['abcName'].value);
}
</script>
<h1>Access Hidden value in JavaScript</h1>
<form name="formName">
<input type="hidden" id="abcId" name="abcName"
value="I am Hidden value"/>
<input type="button" value="Get Value" onclick="printIt()" />
</form>
</body>
</html>
document.getElementById('Hidden1').value;
and alert the return value
<script type="text/javascript">
function dis() {
var j = document.getElementById("<%= Hidden1.ClientID %>").value;
alert(j);
}
</script>
<input id="Hidden1" type="hidden" runat="server" value="Hello" /><br />
<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" OnClientClick="return dis();" />
With pure JavaScript:
var value = document.getElementById(id).value;
Also be sure not to reference a DOM element before it exists - like I just did and spent an hour trying to figure why even HelloWorld would not work.
I have just done the code for submit the form using JavaScript.
It works in all browsers except in Internet Explorer 6.
I have pasted my HTML form and JavaScript code below.
Can you please find what's the problem with it?
JavaScript:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function dodelete(image_id)
{
if (confirm("Are you sure want to delete this image?"))
{
document.getElementById('image_id').value=image_id;
document.del_form.submit();
}
}
</script>
HTML Code:
<form name="del_form" id="del_form" method="post">
<input type="hidden" name="do" id="do" value="delete" />
<input type="hidden" name="image_id" id="image_id" />
</form>
Function Call Code:::
<p class="video">
<a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="dodelete('<?php echo $row['image_id']?>')">
<img src="<?php echo $cfg->admin_image_path; ?>/delete_icon1.gif" border="0" alt="Delete"/>
</a>
</p>
What is returned by:
document.getElementById('image_id')
It returns one INPUT element of collection of elements?
Try to replace:
document.getElementById('image_id').value=image_id;
with:
document.del_form.image_id.value=image_id;
OnSubmit call for javascript would help.
<form name="del_form" id="del_form" onsubmit="dodelete(value);" >
<input type="hidden" name="do" id="do" value="delete" />
<input type="hidden" name="image_id" id="image_id" />
</form>
There are two things I'd like to try, I'm not sure why or when this doesn't work it seems random, first try to set a timeout for the submit :
document.doSubmit = function() {
document.del_form.submit();
}
setTimeout("document.doSubmit();", 100);
Sometimes, just return something after the click works :
<input type="hidden" name="image_id" id="image_id" onclick="submitFormFunction(); return false;” />
What happens if you replace:
document.del_form.submit();
with:
document.getElementById('del_form').submit()
Try to move method='POST' to the beginning of form element definition.
I mean -- method attribute should be the first attribute of form element.
If I remember well, this fixed some problems with submitting forms on IE6.
I have edited your code a little bit.
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function dodelete(image_id)
{
if (confirm("Are you sure want to delete this image?"))
{
document.getElementById('image_id').value=image_id;
document.del_form.submit();
}
return false;
}
</script>
and the HTML with some test Image ID and it works in IE6
<form name="del_form" id="del_form" method="post" onSubmit="return(dodelete('2'));">
<input name="do" id="do" value="delete" />
<input name="image_id" id="image_id" />
<input type="submit" value="Submit">
</form>
Let's try again :).
What happen after replacing:
onclick="dodelete('<?php echo $row['image_id']?>')">
with:
onclick="dodelete('<?php echo $row['image_id']?>'); return false;">
What exactly doesn't work with your code? Throw JS error, there is no server request, values in request are empty?
And (maybe the most important question) -- where is action attribute for your del_form form?
replace
<a href="javascript:void(0)"
with
<a href="#"
IE have problem with that for the dom that fires the JS submit.
